Unfortunate, but I respect it lol.

N6 | Debate of presidential candidates in the Republic of Saarenmaa: the real election race has begun.

SIA, Mariansatama 14/03/24 - On March 14, a debate of candidates for the presidency of the Republic of Saarenmaa was held in Mariansatama, the candidates answered questions from the host of the program on topics affecting four main spheres of society: economic, political, social and spiritual. Elections in the Republic of Saarenmaa will be held on March 16-19. Three candidates will take part in the elections: Mikael Kuningasenen from the Indepemdent Saarenmaa Party, Emilia Hamäläinen from the Social Democratic Party (RSDP) and Antero Autio from the conservative National Unity Party. They will take part in the upcoming elections. PLPSAH and SEIP did not nominate their candidates and declared their support for the RSDP candidate.

Economic Sphere

Q: What measures will you take regarding the economy?

MK: “Of course, this is an important aspect of my policy. Now, it is and will be. In my first term, I ensured systematic economic growth. After election, I will completely remove taxation of small and medium-sized businesses for 5 years. We, the Cabinet of Ministers, my assistants and Our colleagues discussed this initiative for a long time, a corresponding bill has already been prepared, and work on this issue is underway.

Also, the basis of our economy is qualified specialists. In Yuksipar, a bill to reduce taxes for private schools and universities, as well as allocate funding for the creation of new ones, is already in the queue for discussion. We will also index financial assistance for students and researchers who study at government institutions."

Political sphere

Q: What measures will you take in the political sphere?

MK: “First of all, we will continue the policy of neutrality in international affairs, this is a tradition honored by the history of our homeland, and what we now have is due to the fact that we have not deviated from this principle, that is, as I have said throughout my entire term, we are not going to enter into any military blocs and arm the country, we don’t need that, we don’t need war.”

Social sphere

Q: What measures will you take in the social sphere?

MK: The first thing I will mention is that I have always called and will continue to call for strengthening social protection for the poor. In my program there is one of the initiatives on preferential lending, we discussed with my assistants and have already held several meetings with the Minister of Finance and Health and my other colleagues, and in general this bill is designed to create fair interest rates for this stratum of society and make it easier for them to pay the loan , but also to give a boost to the banking industry. I repeat, the goal of our party remains to create conditions for equal access to government and social services for all segments of the population. To do this, we will increase funding for other areas of society, we need to preserve our principle of a welfare state and, most importantly, not allow others to encroach on its legal validity.

Spiritual Sphere

Q: What measures will you take in the spiritual realm?

MK: “I’ll start with the thesis that Saarenmaa is a very hospitable country, this is due to our history, just as in 1920 our ancestors rallied to gain independence, and now we will be happy only if we are together.

A single culture and language is our support, so I will increase funding for studying the Finnish language and foreigners who decide to study it to obtain citizenship will be paid a scholarship.

My party members and I have already prepared a bill and Yuksipar will soon consider it; we propose to introduce specialized talent visas for foreign specialists in the field of art, music and culture. A mandatory item will be the provision of a place of residence, as well as a deferment from tax payments for these persons for a period of 5 years.

Also in the Republic of Saarenmaa, many denominations do not have their own places for official gathering, we will give them the opportunity to do this by guaranteeing that there will be at least one official meeting place."

Economic Sphere

Q: What measures will you take regarding the economy?

EH: “The issue of economics for me is one of the priorities in my program. We all need every person to have equal opportunities for their own self-realization, and the state is obliged to provide high-quality and free healthcare and education for everyone, and this is enshrined in law.

However, our government's current policies do not ensure this for everyone. Why are people like us denied those benefits, simply because they are not citizens of Saarenmaa, why does the current government allow this? How can we change this?

Gas revenues are huge, but tax policy remains the same. The wealth reserve fund has already been filled for more than 10 years, so it's time to focus on people and their well-being, and not on earning money and then pathological accumulation, we are already rich and will not lose it. Upon taking up the position, we will introduce a basic gratuitous monthly payment of 700 euros for each person living in the Republic of Saarenmaa. This can be done immediately and of course we have prepared a corresponding bill.

In addition, stimulating small and medium-sized businesses will create fair rules of the game, since big business strangles and destroys any endeavors of our entrepreneurs. We have done a very important thing - an influx of new specialists. It only started because we made English the second official language. Only because of this, many foreign companies and specialists have chosen Saarenmaa, and not any other countries, to conduct their business and their professional activities."

Political sphere

Q: What measures will you take in the political sphere?

EH “It is important for me that my country coexists peacefully with our neighbors and other partners, maintains a peaceful and constructive dialogue and develops cooperation with all states and communities in the world.

I agree that we will actively work to strengthen diplomatic relations and close cooperation with our partners from the European Union, increase
political and economic integration.

We do not advocate bloc politics; under our power, we will never join NATO. Once again, we stand for cooperation with various states on mutually beneficial terms, respecting their sovereignty and rights. We are against any form of expansion and domination and call on other states to build peace based on respect."

Social sphere

Q: What measures will you take in the social sphere?

EH “My personal goal is for Saari to have a fair and equal society, where every person and citizen has access to quality health care, education, housing and a decent pension.

We, together with my party, discussed and developed many initiatives in the social sphere, which were approved by Yuksipar and, after passing the adoption procedure, were put into force.

We plan to expand universal compulsory health insurance to migrants arriving in our country. Reduce the cost for migrants who have just arrived in the country on a work or study visa. We need to attract more foreign specialists in order to provide Saari with highly qualified specialists in a short time, which will give an impetus to both the economy and the social sector.

We also intend to increase funding for the educational industry and increase the salaries of teachers, now teachers receive extremely low salaries in relation to the average salary - this is not fair and we will immediately correct this oversight of the current government and set a minimum salary for teachers in the amount of 500,000 Saarenmaan marks (4854 Euro). It is our responsibility to provide our children with quality education and a bright future.

We also plan to introduce updated programs to support low-income families, including initiatives to provide housing subsidies for the purchase of housing for families with at least one child and reduce interest rates on mortgage lending to 2%."

Spiritual Sphere

Q: What measures will you take in the spiritual realm?

EH: "Yes, first of all, we always support our citizens to develop culture and art in Saari. As you know, I support the Mäkinen initiative to create new cultural centers, museums, theaters and exhibition halls. We have very little of this and Therefore, people in their letters address this topic and ask us to respond to this oversight. I would like to emphasize that we always support young talents in the field of art and culture, there is such an example as Helena Aitu, an excellent director and thanks to our help she produced masterpieces, which are famous throughout Saari.

However, we must not forget about our culture, which is why we are introducing an initiative to increase funding for private companies aimed at restoration and also strengthen measures for the protection and preservation of historical monuments, architectural monuments and other cultural values. Many monuments of our culture are in deplorable condition and we need decisive measures on this issue.

We certainly also support initiatives to support religious communities, churches, mosques and other religious institutions. We need more religious diversity and prevent the dominant religion from oppressing the less common ones in Saari. "

Economic Sphere

Q: What measures will you take regarding the economy?

AA: “I believe that the economy grows best with minimal government intervention. My actions regarding the economy will be aimed at maintaining free market principles and restraint in government spending.

Of course, it must be said that the current overly liberal government spends significant funds on benefits for migrants and providing them with benefits, which they use irrationally and on things that are not necessary, and the worst thing is that this is happening at the expense of our working population - this is not fair and discriminates our population!

One of the important initiatives is to reduce taxation, the government spends too much on meaningless benefits for unemployed migrants and provides them with material payments, which they implement, and the current government finances the direct degradation of society.

In addition, I believe that it is necessary to stimulate domestic entrepreneurship by increasing investment and easing the strict regulation that the current government has made. Everyone knows that in our country the national technology industry has been completely destroyed, and we are heavily dependent on the imports of our partners - this is the incompetent policy of the current government, which is destroying and first made our economy stagnate, and then will make it fall. It is necessary to correct this situation as soon as possible, revive our technological industry, create domestic products that will be preferable to our citizens, and reduce import dependence. And we can only do this if you elect me."

Political sphere

Q: What measures will you take in the political sphere?

AA: “You know, for all of us, for my country, there is an existential threat, initially this is a war in the Baltic Sea and with our big eastern neighbor. You see, liberals and social democrats are trying to destroy our country
by their actions, they are incompetent, and live with rose-colored glasses and hope for who knows what. Understand one thing - we need to take a tough position in relation to our security and finally revive the military-industrial complex, revive the army, and the first thing that can be done is to purchase an air defense system from our partners and create an initially contract army.

It is necessary to immediately join the NATO bloc like our Scandinavian comrades. Because time is ticking, eras are changing, and now neutrality does not work."

Social sphere

Q: What measures will you take in the social sphere?

AA: “My party and I discussed the social sphere of life in our society, and what measures could be taken, and we approved several of the following measures:

What I am saying is that by reducing taxation and redistributing expenses to more necessary social needs, we will ensure a decent standard of living for all citizens, since salaries will increase after paying income and also, in turn, those taxes that went into the pockets of idle people will go to our pensions grandparents, disabled people and others.

Modernization of the medical system is also required: I personally believe that access to high-quality medical care should be ensured for all citizens without exception. We will distribute the proceeds to increase funding for the medical industry by purchasing new equipment.

The important point is that we need to fight the unemployment of our highly qualified workers. Now foreign specialists who are ready to work for lower wages are taking our jobs - this is not fair and we will eradicate it.

We will also create a program to support family and motherhood for citizens of the Republic of Saarenmaa: we always put the interests of families first and recognize the institution of family as the foundation of our society, so we have developed a program to support families, which includes: Guaranteed work place for the family of citizens of the Republic of Saarenmaa, a guaranteed place for the children of these families in an educational institution or kindergarten.

I promise that if I am elected president, we will implement these measures and initiatives. Trust us, together we will make our country strong."

Spiritual Sphere

Q: What measures will you take in the spiritual realm?

AA: “Everyone knows that our party adheres to traditional values. I support initiatives to promote national culture, history and language. We will introduce a specialized Holmberg card, where there will be funds to attend cultural events, theaters and concerts. We always stands for preserving our traditions of our country and therefore we are going to protect them and not allow them to be insulted or belittled.

As a believer, I attach great importance to spiritual values and religious freedom. I support initiatives to protect Christian churches, mosques and other religious institutions. I believe that religion is an important element of society and should be respected.

I also support initiatives to develop musical, artistic and literary culture. My party and I promoted many laws to protect national literary monuments and were also able to establish control over domestic cultural monuments.

I am proud that I am a Saarenmaan and I have always stood for our people, for our culture and for our traditions and I will always defend! I call on all fellow citizens to support me in the elections and together preserve our cultural and spiritual identity. "

This is why for notes or adddendum to my posts I use the codes sup or pre.

It really adds a nice little touch to certain notes or points you're trying to make so they seem to feel different.
Or makes for a nice little footnote to the end of your post if you're making some form of legal disclaimer about liability of your involvement with the recent lobster escape at Red Lobster.

Whoops, I have inadvertently disenfranchised myself by not currently having a resident nation in the WA. But anyways, best of luck to all the candidates.

Dear Friends,

One week has now passed since the close of the Nominations Poll, which means that Campaign Week is now over. No further campaigning is permitted at this time, and will be considered spam (i.e. suppressed).

I am very pleased to announce the launch of our Forest Keeper Election Poll of March 2024! Our candidates are, in alphabetical order:

Atsvea
Belerus
Garbelia
Great Wadiya
LontraNutria
Republik Hintonia
Zerphen

This poll will run for three days, and will end with either the formal announcement of our next Forest Keeper (should a candidate secure 50% +1 of the validly-cast votes), or else with the immediate launch of the Runoff Poll (should no candidate secure a majority, in which case the top two nations will advance to a runoff).

Mechanically, this poll is open to all WA resident nations of Forest, but only votes cast by the nations listed on the Roster of Eligible Voters who have maintained their residency and WA status will be counted towards the total. Invalidly cast votes will not affect the total.

So that everyone can check the votes against the official list, here is the Roster of Eligible Voters for this election again. Please excuse the length of this post; if it is in spoilers, nations will not get the notice that they have been mentioned in this very important post.

As always, I encourage everyone who is able to cast their vote! The Forest Keeper sets the tone and direction of the region for the next six months, and democracies are only as strong as their level of citizen involvement, among other things. We have had a superb campaign week and an excellent slate of candidates, so let’s carry the torch to the finish line!

Best of luck to the candidates!

A few dry days in spring and much of the Highlands is covered in smoke as farmers and crofters set about burning heather. They do this to keep the ground clear for grazing and promote the growth of edible grasses. It also means that nothing larger than heather ever gets established. Over the past few years longer periods of dry weather have led to some of these fires getting out of hand. It's not that long since I joined neighbours beating out flames that came to within 100m of their houses, or since several hundred school kids were stuck in town until late in the evening as a fire closed their road home. A community woodland replanting initiative that had been 10 years established was destroyed. This spring fire engines stand by near the larger burnings in case of trouble, but there has to be an informal rota because the fire crews are part-timers and volunteers who also have their own fires to set.

If you ask a crofter about this they'll say they have no choice, and in a legal sense this is true. In a last remnant of the feudal system, crofters rent their land from large estates and "superiors." Since exploited crofters successfully stuck it to The Man in the 1880s rents have been frozen (a typical annual rent is a handful of pounds that probably isn't actually collected) and evictions are impossible, but there remains an agreement that requires the burning to keep the land in grazeable condition. Beyond that boys will be boys, and people just enjoy setting fire to stuff.

This bleak landscape of peatbog and moorland was once temperate rainforest. It was created in its current form over the course of the 18th and 19th centuries when the landowners realised the potential for sheep farming on a huge scale. Combined with reprisals against the local population following the 1745 Jacobite rising, it led to large numbers of people being forcibly removed to the New World and created the Scottish diaspora in much the same was as famine distributed the Irish across the globe. The human population of the west coast is a fraction of what it was 200 years ago and the grievances left by the Highland Clearances are still keenly felt. It's portrayed as a sort of genocide, an assault on a culture and a language, which of course it was - but the most obvious thing that was cleared was trees.

Britain thinks of the Highlands and the Lake District as its wilderness, but if the process was happening now it would look like Bolsanaro's assault on the Amazon. Urbanites mistake open space for nature and don't realise that although the mountains, coasts and lochs are beautiful they're anything but natural. These days the large scale farming is gone. Crofters are the descendants of the people who were left by the Clearances, and we don't have Outback style sheep stations. For many people farming isn't a livelihood, but having 50 sheep or half a dozen cattle combines with seasonal and public sector work or renting rooms to tourists. So while clearing the land for livestock was once part of an assault on Gaelic culture, today the people keeping the land barren are the representatives of the same culture. The reintroduction of sea eagles was controversial because they sometimes take lambs, and resistance from small scale fishermen to the government's new marine conservation zones explicitly calls it out as the Clearances again. Yet the land is very marginal, and most crofters have to bring in feed for their animals for at least 9 months a year. Who even eats lamb these days anyway? If you worked it out as calories per hectare it would be a truly miserable yield, when once the Caledonian Forest of Scots pine, birch, rowan and oak stretched to the east coast.

On a bright March morning the view is beautiful and sad at the same time.

While the content is bittersweet, what you wrote is genuinely beautiful Uan aa Boa. The combination of ecology, history, culture, and socio-political interactions you describe reminds us well that the memory of man is far shorter than the memory of the land, and that none of these things can exist in a vacuum.

There should be a name for the feeling of being made sad by learning history.

Decided to FINALLY quick update my Forest politicube maps in my Statistical Maps dispatch from 14 months ago. I hope to do some of the other ones eventually, but the Forest Cube and Greenness Index maps are still my favorite, and I know the latter doesn't change much. I feel bad that I didn't get to it before a couple of folks CTE'd. Alas. Hope you enjoy :)

I've spent too much time looking at and recolouring these map. I'm probably never gonna update most of these xD

If you have any questions, do please let me know. I'm aware some of the maps are a little daunting at first. I have a small FAQ at the end - not that they're necessarily actually FAQ, but sometimes what I'd expect to be FAQ.

Roless Era Maps:

MSR Era Maps:

Jutsa Era Maps:

The links below were all made in June 2021.

Link to everything from the original update: LinkHere

FAQish:

1) "What do the 2 and x2 mean?" Second-highest and second-lowest ranked, respectively.

2) "There are multiple Xs" tie. Looking at you 0 Disposable Income nations

3) "What the heck is going on with those colors?" Okay yeah it's a mess. So the black-white bar shows how intense a color should be based on its statistics, whereas the color map shows said statistic. If you have a lot of the green stat, a little of the blue stat, and none of the red stat, you're going to look like a slightly blue bright green or teal. If you have a little of everything, you'll look grey. If you're dark red, you are low in every stat but are a bit higher in the red stat; redish grey is neutral in all but slightly better in red; pale red is high in everything but especially red; and neon red means you're great at red but terrible at blue and green. Again, it's a bit messy, but it's how I set up tristat comparison. :P

4) "Will you make more maps or update existing ones?" Violet knows.

5) "How do I contact you with more questions?" Just telegram me. I don't mind. ;)

6) "Why did you chose to compare these sets of stats?" Arbitrary. Also if I could have more than 3 colours (which is already a mess as it is) I would. q-q

Read factbook

I did notice that a lot of nations do in fact change quite a bit over the course of a year, even from players I never thought would change much - sometimes rather dramatically, at that. One thing I noticed this time, however, is a really widespread trend - most nations that have changed have either gone more socialist or otherwise more authoritarian. Notably, a great many Civil Rights Lovefests became Scandinavian Liberal Paradises - like, a lot actually. So much so we only have five* CRLs left on the map! (No really the CRL:SLP ratio was 14:5 now it's flipped 5:13* [shoutout to FUF who I missed was also CRL and one of very few nations to go in that direction]) We got a good few dictatorships too, and a ton of Democratic Socialists and LWUs. Hate to say it but the map kinda looks like a vomit green. Only a couple of nations changed in the other direction, and it was almost exclusively for a slightly freer market (i.e. DS -> ICD, or Ru becoming an all-out anarchy). An interesting trend, to be sure... xD

(Although, to be completely fair, a lot of these nations are instead [over-]rebounding from going the opposite direction over the past couple years, and it is most likely just a result of fluctuation around a point somewhere between 2-8 classifications. But it's still funny how much they moved in sync with each other this time round.)

Edit: If anyone knows any of the values for nations I had to mark in grey, feel free to let me know and I can update them lickety-split ;p

p.s. sincere apologies to people who are colourblind or have 70s monitors

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As an aside, I want to say, Uan, that that was an absolutely touching post. Someone please stick this in an archive somewhere. It's genuinely beautiful. And sad.
Columbiqash Prioritizes Mental Health: New Funding for Innovative Treatments
In a response to growing concerns over mental health in Columbiqash, especially concerning severe depression, the government has taken a decisive step forward. The recent case of a 33-year-old woman denied euthanasia due to her long-standing battle with depression has sparked a nationwide debate on the issue. It highlighted the urgent need for comprehensive and compassionate care for those suffering from chronic mental health conditions.
In an official statement released today, the government announced significant new funding towards mental health services, with a particular focus on innovative treatments such as neuroaffective immunotherapy. Khalida al-Assad, a leading neuropsychologist, praised the move, emphasizing the importance of addressing the root causes of chronic depression. “This investment in mental health and social services marks a pivotal moment in our national approach to mental health care. It’s a recognition that we must do more to support those who feel they have nowhere else to turn,” she commented.
The government’s initiative seeks to offer hope and tangible support, distancing itself from more extreme proposals such as the controversial “Self-Destructivists” movement. Instead, Columbiqash is dedicating itself to the exploration of cutting-edge therapies and expanding access to mental health care. This commitment is expected to not only improve the lives of individuals directly affected but also alleviate the strain on families and communities impacted by mental health issues.
While the new policies promise a brighter future for many, they also raise questions about the allocation of resources and the potential need for adjustments in other areas of public spending. Nonetheless, the consensus among healthcare professionals and patient advocacy groups is overwhelmingly positive. They argue that investing in mental health not only saves lives but ultimately enriches the fabric of Columbiqashian society as a whole.
As Columbiqash embarks on this ambitious journey to revolutionize mental health care, it sets a powerful example for nations worldwide. The focus on innovative treatment and comprehensive care underscores a profound commitment to valuing all aspects of health, signaling a new era of hope for those battling severe depression and other mental health challenges.
Safer Journeys Ahead: Columbiqash Pumps Footprints into Public Buses for Overhaul
In an unprecedented move, the Columbiqash government has earmarked a substantial investment to revamp the country’s public bus transportation system. This decision comes on the heels of numerous tragic bus accidents that shed light on the dire condition of the national bus fleet and sparked a strike among bus drivers concerned with safety standards.
The strike, led by vocal bus drivers like Arnold Carter, brought attention to the critical state of their working environment, including issues such as malfunctioning lights, damaged or missing seats, and a general lack of maintenance. Their demands for improved conditions have now been met with a comprehensive government plan that promises a brighter future for both passengers and bus operators.
The funding is set to modernize the aging fleet with new, technologically advanced buses equipped with the latest safety features. Moreover, the initiative includes the upgrading of bus facilities and the establishment of stringent maintenance protocols to ensure the ongoing safety and reliability of public transport services.
By prioritizing the overhaul of the public bus system, Columbiqash aims to enhance passenger safety, reduce urban congestion and pollution, and promote sustainable transportation solutions. This move has been met with widespread approval from the public and transport workers alike, signaling a significant step towards a safer, more efficient public transit system in Columbiqash.
The government's response not only addresses the immediate concerns raised by the striking drivers but also aligns with broader environmental objectives, highlighting the vital role of public transportation in creating more livable urban spaces. As Columbiqash prepares for the introduction of the upgraded buses, there's an air of optimism about the potential improvements in public safety and environmental sustainability that lie ahead.
Columbiqash Declares War on Poaching: A United Front to Save the Great-Horned Bigfoot
In an unprecedented move that has captivated the heart of the nation, Columbiqash has launched a vigorous campaign aimed at preserving one of its most iconic and endangered species, the great-horned Bigfoot. Spearheaded by Francine Goldsmith, a passionate environmentalist, the initiative seeks to combat the imminent threat of extinction facing these majestic creatures, largely due to illegal poaching activities.
The great-horned Bigfoot, known for its distinctive horn believed to possess aphrodisiac qualities, has been hunted to near extinction. However, Columbiqash's latest conservation efforts mark a pivotal moment in the fight against wildlife exploitation. Highly trained and armed park rangers now stand guard in the nation’s forests, working tirelessly to protect the Bigfoot from poachers' traps and bullets.
This comprehensive approach to conservation also extends to legal measures, targeting retailers and individuals associated with the trade of products derived from the great-horned Bigfoot’s horn. By enforcing stringent laws and prosecuting those complicit in endangering the species, Columbiqash sends a clear message: wildlife preservation is a national priority that will be upheld with the full force of the law.
Moreover, the initiative has sparked an ambitious scientific endeavor aimed at increasing the Bigfoot’s population. Top scientists across the nation have been mobilized to study the species, developing innovative breeding programs to ensure the survival and growth of this national treasure.
As the horniness of the great-horned Bigfoot becomes a rallying cry for environmentalists and conservationists alike, Columbiqash sets an exemplary standard in wildlife protection. This bold stance against poaching and habitat destruction reaffirms the nation's commitment to preserving its rich biodiversity for generations to come.
Ancient Secrets vs. Modern Marvels: The Battle Over Columbiqash's Unearthed Heritage
In the heart of Columbiqash, a startling discovery has thrown the bustling city into a fervent debate about progress, preservation, and spirituality. As bulldozers and cranes prepared the ground for the anticipated Hyper-Mega-Ultra-Super Mall, an ancient temple emerged from the depths, presenting a conundrum that has captivated the nation.
Professor Engelbert Wheeler, renowned for his dedication to Columbiqash's archaeological treasures, has become the voice of preservation. He argues that the temple offers an unprecedented window into the nation's history, a chance to connect with ancestors whose stories are embedded in the very stones now at risk of being entombed beneath retail floors.
Contrastingly, Khethiwe Delauter, foreman of the construction project, represents the aspirations for economic growth and modernization. Delauter insists that the mall represents future prosperity, employment, and advancement, proposing that the ruins, while fascinating, are relics of a past that must yield to the future's demands.
Amid this clash of epochs, Yon-Zhauryg v’Klot, the enigmatic leader of the Cult of the Undead Bigfoot, claims the site for spiritual reasons. This group, known for their unique interpretation of local folklore, asserts that the temple is sacred ground, not to be defiled by commerce or curiosity.
As discussions escalate, the government faces a pivotal choice between advancing their economic agenda and preserving a cultural legacy. This decision could redefine Columbiqash's identity, balancing the scales between honoring its ancient past and embracing a dynamic future.
The situation at the construction site mirrors the broader societal debate: how to value our heritage in the relentless march of progress. With each party entrenched in their belief, the resolution of this conflict will undoubtedly leave a lasting imprint on the soul of Columbiqash, shaping its path forward in the annals of history.
…::~Official~Regional~Elections~Post~::…
Dear Friends,
It is my great pleasure and privilege to announce the conclusion of the Forest Keeper Election of March 2024!
After having secured 23 of 34 of the validly-cast votes (or 68%), The Zephyrs of Zerphen has been elected and installed as our next Forest Keeper, and as the Head of Government for the Sixteenth Administration of Forest! Congratulations, Zerphen!!
I’d like to thank everyone who was involved in this election: everyone who voted, everyone who volunteered to serve as an Election Officer, everyone who ran for Forest Keeper, everyone who engaged with the discussions during Campaign Week, and last but not least, to Kannap, for being our Election Discussion Facilitator! As in real life, democracy is only as strong as the level of engagement, and in that regard, Forest is incredibly strong.
Please join me in congratulating Zerphen on their election to the Head of Government as Forest Keeper!!!
Also, please keep a lookout for upcoming announcements of Regional Officerships in the coming days. A new chapter begins!
It has been my pleasure and honor to serve as the the coordinator for our Bi-Annual Forest Keeper Election, as always! Until next time,
Ruinenlust, Governor of Forest :-)
Congratulations to our new Forest Keeper Zerphen on an excellent campaign and best of luck for the term ahead!
As always I had fun participating in the elections (will probably be back next time) and would like to echo Ruin's thanks to Kannap and anyone who asked a question or voted.
~Acceptance Speech~
Hey everyone!
First of all, I want to give a big thanks to everyone who voted for me! When I decided to run in this election, I had no idea what to expect. I didn't know whether I, as someone completely new to regional government, would be blown out of the water by people who have been through this rigamarole before. I didn't know whether I could secure even a few votes, let alone twenty three. Needless to say, the support I've received through this RMB, telegrams, and in the vote, has been overwhelming in more ways than one, in a good way :] Thanks to all of you, I feel strongly that I can lead and guide this region with confidence.
As all life, Forest requires attentive care to be able to grow into something beautiful. Forest as a region has remained steadfast and constant through the care of all those who have come before and who are here today. Now, it is time for a nourishing rainfall through which our Forest can continue to grow and flourish. I hope that my administration can be that rainfall, being a safe, inclusive, and fun place for all under our canopy!
Now for the first order of business...
~Early Appointments~
I would like to announce a few people who I have already reached out to and will be a part of this administration! Ruinenlust, could you please appoint:
  • Garbelia as the Deputy Forest Keeper. I hope their experience and advice as someone who has been in government for a few years now will be able to keep me on top of things, and I look forward to building a cooperative relationship with them in order to achieve our goals and vision for Forest :] They will also continue on in their role of Statistician.
  • Roless as the Cartographer. Their passion for our regional maps is evident in the work they have done thus far over three terms, and I look forward to all the future map updates we will see from them in their fourth :]
~Government Applications Open~
There are a lot of positions still open in government. There are a few people that I plan on reaching out to over the next few days, but if you are interested in being a part of the upcoming administration, you should reach out to me by telegram or in my Discord DMs @uonia. Tell me what position(s) you are interested in, why you feel qualified, and what you hope to do in that position. The positions that need filled are as follows:
  • Foreign Affairs Minister: This person is in charge of all foreign affairs and representing Forest on the world stage. They will be in charge of handling any embassy requests, the Ambassador Program, and evaluating our current embassies and how we can build stronger relations. If the latter two are too much of a burden, we can consider splitting this up, but we will only seek that if necessary.
  • Culture and Events Minister: This person is in charge of Forest's handling of all events, creation of events here, and promoting of any other events that we are formally invited to. We are hoping to host at least one event during this term in the Song Contest, and if I recall there is a chess event which we have been invited to cohost by The Region That Has No Big Banks which will need addressed shortly.
  • Chief Editor: This person will be co-leading the creation of a regional newspaper with me, and will ideally have nearly full editorial control upon its completion. We will create the standards and format for the regional newspaper which can be put in dispatch form, and they will be the one who accepts, rejects, and edits any submissions for the regional newspaper.
  • Forest Ranger: This person is in charge of making sure our region is safe from any threats and problematic nations, and keeping our RMB clean. Preference given to anyone with high regional influence.
  • Wise Elder: This person is in charge of maintaining our quote of the fortnight and acting as an advisor for any big decisions.
  • Chief of Directories: This position will be in charge of fixing our horrendous government dispatch system and likely coordinating everything under one account. I may postpone selecting this position temporarily in favor of discussing some options for this with Garbelia since this was something we both campaigned on, but do contact me if you have any interest in doing this.
If anyone has any other ideas for how you could contribute to Forest, absolutely reach out to me because I'd love to hear your ideas :] If you have any fun Foresty names to replace some of the less interesting names for government officials, feel free to share those as well! If you're thinking you want to be involved in the government but think you'll be ignored in favor of someone with more qualifications or more experience, reach out anyways! Enthusiasm, passion, and dedication are more important to me than any hackneyed resume or lack thereof you could or couldn't come up with, and if I see that in your application you would be a good pick in my eyes :]
And remember, even if you don't get a position in the government, there are other ways you can be involved! Once the ambassador program is in full swing, you can join on as an ambassador to send and receive any updates from our embassy regions as well as participate in that region's culture. You'll also be able to write things for the regional newspaper once that is ready. And you will always be able to participate in any public discussions we have on our governmental affairs. As much as I may be a "leader" of this region, my job, beyond administrative stuff and being a positive face for the community, is more that of a facilitator for public discussion, where you will have your say and input in any big decisions.
I am excited to hear from you all and lead this community,
Zerphen, Forest Keeper of the Sixteenth Administration of Forest :]
Congratulations, Zerphen. :) Not only have you secured Forest Keeper, but even in the midst of 6 other candidates, some of whom were actually solid options in their own right, you managed to obtain 68.6% of total votes (albeit, 67.6% of valid votes, but still). That's in fact the largest first-time victory percentage since the sixth election (seventh keeper) of Turbeaux 5* years ago (sorry, originally got this year AND that year wrong) - and that was against only one option (Chan) who I assume was also a "joke" candidate. (only the 2nd/3rd elections were more skewed, and I cannot vouch for the validity of the fight the other candidates put up lol.) I also think you might be the first female Forest Keeper (but I could be completely wrong in that, and genuine apologies to everyone I've wronged if so xD)
And, of course, those statistics are taken from my newly updated elections dispatch #shamelessplug xD but genuinely well done. (and thnx for pointing out I forgot to change the one 24 to a 23. m'bad '>_> [and double-thanks for confirming that adding someone's name retroactively to a dispatch pings them... I have probably had a few raised eyebrows by now >.>])
Looking forward to the next cabinet you cobble together and what you have in store for us. ^^
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I also want to thank Einswenn for your term is Forest Keeper. I know not all of your original plans came to fruition (and I will not deny me and my ongoing shenanigans with event junk and JEFF in particular may've played a small part, apologies if so), but as you know that's a very hard thing for anyone to do. But you served solidly, had valiantly preserved the sanctity of our RMB quality (and fully convinced me after the warnings of what happened over in Europe) and our constitution, did well to roll with the punches when it came to unanticipated (even contrary to your campaign foci) events, were a pleasure to work with (I appreciate working with my excitability followed by my irl lethargy), and I'd argue were an important tie with Europe during a time we might have needed it most xD (And all that after the chaotic irl events you've faced!)

So genuinely, thank you for what you had done and for serving our region well, friend. And I am genuinely sorry I haven't stressed that enough sooner. Honestly been sick four times now and unwell all the while in between, it's honestly a miracle I thought to do something so important in a post meant for someone else. Hope to see you around aplenty. :)

Congratulations The Zephyrs of Zerphen, it’s a solid victory. Forest has displayed its trust in you and I’m sure the what-I-call summer term will be fun for all of us with the things you’re about to bring in.

And bit late comment as P.S.

Zerphen wrote:I've always liked the idea of the Forest Saga, and I was kinda sad that you never did anything with it during your term

Yeah I’m still sad I didn’t do that, but I don’t write this off from my agenda. The whole enterprise is interesting to try. It requires much, much more time than I expected at first.

I still feel like some players such as Columbiqash and Jutsa are somewhat disappointed I asked them to wait for some updates several times, even though they didn’t tell me about their disappointment directly [yet] xD

I am pretty sure I’ll try to work on drafts without rush for the coming months, once I get some free time in a highly busy life these days. Also thank you Jutsa for your kind words, not everything was released but I am glad things went smooth nevertheless, and you’re right, sometimes things went beyond of my campaign frames we all had to deal with it. It was nice though.

And now it’s time for a brand new term that will bring us more activities, and I’m eager to see Zerphen’s campaign ideas gradually becoming a reality.
