The Military Republic of Benese is a massive, genial nation, ruled by Agent Winbuntu with an iron fist, and notable for its rum-swilling pirates, ban on automobiles, and stringent health and safety legislation. The compassionate, cynical, devout population of 1.967 billion Beneseans are ruled with an iron fist by the dictatorship government, which ensures that no-one outside the party gets too rich. In their personal lives, however, citizens are relatively unoppressed; it remains to be seen whether this is because the government genuinely cares about its people, or if it hasn't gotten around to stamping out civil rights yet.

The large, corrupt, well-organized government is primarily concerned with Defense, although Administration, Industry, and Education are also considered important. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Benese city. The average income tax rate is 80.3%, and even higher for the wealthy.

The frighteningly efficient Benesean economy, worth 289 trillion kronor a year, is driven entirely by a combination of government and state-owned industry, with private enterprise illegal. However, for those in the know, there is an enormous, deeply entrenched, quite specialized black market in Arms Manufacturing, Information Technology, Tourism, and Book Publishing. The private sector mostly consists of enterprising ten-year-olds selling lemonade on the sidewalk, but the government is looking at stamping this out. Average income is an impressive 147,116 kronor, and distributed extremely evenly, with little difference between the richest and poorest citizens.

Most people suffer from some form of hearing loss, it's often raining men (hallelujah) in Benese city, the nation's infamous boot camp is more brutal than most battlefields, and foreign policy is mostly just to smile and hope for the best. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to a capable police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Benese's national animal is the dolphin, which frolics freely in the nation's sparkling oceans, and its national religion is Judaism and Islam.

Benese is ranked 23,823rd in the world and 566th in the South Pacific for Most Scientifically Advanced, scoring 253.41 on the Kurzweil Singularity Index.
