Discord is OK, but the 2,000 character limit & the limitations on how many channels can be had is quite restricting.

Forums would be good for this.

It's 2k characters you can bypass by double posting (which isn't an issue), and the channel limit on servers is 500, so quite big enough for a congress server. :P

Also on the transparenzee for the forums: Cinema & I didn't do much yet since we had the RP to take care of and well, all that FA stuff since I arrived. Tho that's definitely on our to-do list.

Andusre wrote:An idea I had a lil while ago which I asked Cerd about in #ns-pol of Thaecord was the idea of multiple "rooms" for each branch of Congress. The idea, in its very rough & unrevised form, is that the HoC & Senate regions become administrative hubs with a further 3 subregions called HoC Room 1, 2 & 3; Senate Room 1, 2, 3; whatever you want to call it.

This enables the chambers to juggle legislation - a skill which we've seen could be very very helpful, but it has its setbacks.

Namely, it would make the already difficult job of recordkeeping in Congress for the Speaker & Chairman even more difficult. It would also increase the workload on individual MPs & Senators which may be manageable but it's a risk.

I've been long opposed to this idea because I feel like it will cause us to start doing too much legislation too fast. We used to have the problem of not having enough legislation to do and many people feeling like Thaecian politics had got boring because there was no debate points anywhere. Creating more "rooms" will just amplify that problem- it has started to die down a bit now with more debate going on (still almost unanimous agreement on most things though), so I don't want to see it immediately coming back as we clean three bills at once.

Expanding the debate time won't even really help with that, it'll just delay the problem, at least in my opinion.

Islonia wrote:Using onsite RMBs for that is a horror. Offsite forums or discord servers are much more organised and easier to use for that type of stuff.

And this I totally agree with. As ICH has somewhat raised the point (altho I think as can be seen in my last message, in a not great way, but eh) of non-Discord users being unable to see Congress debates, I feel like people that have privacy concerns over emails and IPs will not want to be using forums and such. That means MPs and Senators might not be using it which would be horrible. And we already know that sometimes we have non-Discord congresspeople.

Prussian Sail Nation once praised our region for not being too focused on off-site stuff like Discord- he said he disliked regions that were entirely on Discord. He received the highest first choice votes in one of the elections he ran in despite never having been in Discord. If we mess that up, we're throwing away beautiful opportunities like PSN was. Food for thought.

Andusre wrote:If the rumoured talk of forums coming is to be believed, I'd be in favour of holding off on that idea. Forums would be much much better. But we need a bit more, Brototh forgive me, tranzparanzeeeeeee, from those who are planning the forums.

I don't get it, I basically publicised everything I've done for the forums in #general thus far. There's nothing being hidden from anyone here, I'm very much so open to suggestions. We want it to start off with a character and/or nation rp first and then we will look to expanding it a bit more, as we've said for the last few months pretty much.

We've suggested the entire law being reformed, the constitution, now this- it's funny when people who did nothing to actually bring something about take credit by saying they "suggested it". The whole thing is an entire work by myself and Islonia- another example of me and Islonia having to actually do things instead of the common practice nowadays of people standing around and talking about doing things rather than actually getting out and doing them.

Brototh, my friend, just before the part of the sentence I quoted, I did mention ”along with many others”, meaning others have also proposed this idea as well

You still said it though- I don't endorse drawing special attention to yourself. As you know I was an Islonia voter so while I am totally happy to work with you, I did agree and still do agree with a lot of the whole "ICH takes credit for other people's work" kind of stuff. While I'm sure a lot of it was exaggerated, it's still a concern that I've had over the last year or so. The whole thing was me and Islonia let's be real, yet the only person who gets a special mention in that paragraph is you.

Forums security concerns are easy to bypass for me.

If you don't like showing your IP or email on forums, do the following steps (FOR OUR FORUMS ONLY, NOT OTHER FORUMS-- YOU COULD RISK GETTING BANNED): Use an ns email (ie ich.nationstates@gmail.com), and download opera GX browser. Use Opera GX's preinstalled vpn (always have it on), and bim you've got yourself free of any security concern.

PS: im the only root admin and i wont look at your IP or email address anyway
ive got better stuff to do than stare at numbers and gmails on the admin control panel lol

I don't necessarily agree that we have to cater to those people though. Sure, the on-site nature of Congress is a great thing for integration but it is also heinously inconvenient for governing the region so that we can do a favour for a tiny minority of people.

I'll be harsh but we can't always stick to tradition because some people refuse changes. I'm the first one to hate the tyranny of the majority, but in our case, it's too big of an issue to be resolved unanimously. Hard choices n all that kind of talk. :P

But turning this into another personal political debate isn’t something desirable at the moment, and I disagree that I was paying special attention to that part of the sentence, when in fact, I did clearly put something in bracket(which is more noticeable) and said “kudos to the creators of the server” and this was a direct recognition of both of your’s hard work. And if you still believe I am keen on erasing Altys’ contributions, you might want to read my posts when I announced my nominees and spoke about his contributions to both the RP and FA of the region. And one more thing, I believe, when praising someone, I have never played down anyone’s efforts, except for one regrettable incident during campaigning, when I should have acknowledged Zanaana’s efforts as I had refused to given him any credit due to his later grieving of our previous House resources, and this is something I clearly regret.

Well coming from the person who wrote the whole VP amendment thing I think it is pretty clear absolute inclusivity is a top priority for me. I also feel like forums can be pretty confusing to get around- maybe it's just smolbrane brototh moment but idk, I just like the easier more recognisable format that NationStates provides.

I don't think there's any reason why we should make this change at all- I don't see being able to debate on more than one piece of legislation at a time any kind of a great thing for the region to be honest. For reasons already mentioned but because I feel like forums don't really provide enough of a benefit to actually go ahead and start switching everything over.

Kicking people out of being able to be part of Congress is a really loser move in my opinion, I think we are basically directly excluding people from participating in our democracy because they want to take extra steps to secure their IPs and such. We get to do three pieces of legislation at once and restart the issue of not having enough stuff to do- also keep in mind almost every bill debate goes dead after 24hr, and at the most 36hr to 48hr- in return, we lose people who could be great assets to our democracy and system because we want to "be efficient".

As I'm we've said before with other issues, this game is about fun, not efficiency. A lot of the fun for me is having to persuade the House and Senate leaders to put up this bill next, planning what we want to do, assigning the docket, etc, not just a stale "do it all at once get all bill done region peak efficiency more bill done". It's about the fun for people that for, whatever reason, choosing to or otherwise, sticking onsite. By removing onsite opportunities, we take away fun for them in a search for "More bill get done so we can get IFE passed and Marv doesn't end up pushing it back brrr".

While as we've explained IPs can be bypassed, personal privacy is a big concern for forums. We're also only just setting this stuff up and talking about it- while debating it is always a good idea, this is certainly a subject that should be focused on in the future rather than now.

On this issue, I agree with Brototh, there’ll be some citizens who might not be willing to join a forum because they might not want anyone to see their IP address, and if we exclude them from the Congress Preceedings just because of it, this would be terribly unfair. Our system should be designed in a way which ensures everyone(100%) is able to participate, not only the 95%

Ya, one good thing about Thaecia’s system is that a lot of significant things(Court trials, Congress Proceedings) happens on-site, so if anyone couldn’t get an offsite forum account or a Discord account, they would still be able to see a lot of stuff, though there’s still plenty of room to improve on this.

I need the discord name since my school chromebook blocks discord and the Zoom glitch has only one tab.

You: What about your phone?

My phone forgot to MLG from my locker.

But seriously, I want to become a citizen of the Great Region of Thaecia.

Sorry for the disturbance.

I think it's surprising that something as antiquated as forums are being considered on top of the site and discord already being of use.
