In the Estado Novo the president was the figurehead. His only real power was the ability to dismiss and appoint prime ministers whenever, but he only did it once and that was when he thought Salazar didnt have long to live.
Américo Tomás wasn't the type of guy to consider doing it if a crisis wasnt going on. He was meek and nearly powerless in the position of President.
I don’t subscribe to this argument though. If the entire foundation on which the people voted for Brexit has changed, they should be allowed to change/reconfirm their will.
Democracies usually have elections which produce “undesirable” results (depending on your perspective) which are often overturned in subsequent elections.
It’s not as if we vote for Governments for life, then why should they be forced to accept the outcome for an “outdated” referendum.
Furthermore, a referendum harms no one. If the outcome changes, then it is adds weight to the opinion that the British people were cheated and lied to, and they’ve changed their mind after finding out the truth. If the outcome doesn’t change, then Brexiteers can happily soldier on with a no deal Brexit, without any hesitation because the British people have decidedly chosen it.

If you and a salesman agree on the price of a car, and are finalising the agreement only to find out the car was utter nonsense, you don’t carry on with the deal “because we agreed before”. You tear it up, find a new car salesman who can provide you with the car that you want and is within your budget.
BREAKING NEWS!
The Parliament of Australia have announced that they’ve changed their mind on wanting to be apart of the CMDP (Cooperation for Mutual Defense & Prosperity), feeling that due to India’s questionable government (being fascist) have made the majority of elected politicians in Australia to no longer be interested in the CMDP.
As a result a vote was held in the Federal Parliament Building in Canberra, where the majority winning votes have decided on taking Australia out of the CMDP and to abolish the military alliance with the nation of Alzarikstan.
As a result Prime Minister of Australia, Bob Hawke has decided to cancel his plan on going to the city of New Delhi to sign and become apart of the CMDP. As a result Australia will not have interest in being apart or have anything to do with the CMDP.

Considering both sides cheated, and made false promises and given the change in public opinion, one should be held. Given that Switzerland had a referendum on starting negotiations with the EU and then one to approve the deal, why can't we do that?
exactly
maybe Xiatao should learn about your nation before making a decision
"Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, one of the fiercest political critics of socialized medicine, will travel to Canada later this month to get hernia surgery.
Paul, an ophthalmologist, said the operation is related to an injury in 2017 when his neighbor, Rene Boucher, attacked him while Paul was mowing his lawn. The incident left Kentucky's junior senator with six broken ribs and a bruised lung.
He is scheduled to have the outpatient operation at the privately adminstered Shouldice Hernia Hospital in Thornhill, Ontario during the week of Jan. 21, according to documents from Paul's civil lawsuit against Boucher filed in Warren Circuit Court."
