The hard-nosed, cynical, humorless population of 12.245 billion Zeons are ruled without fear or favor by a psychotic dictator, who outlaws just about everything and refers to the populace as "my little playthings."

The medium-sized, corrupt, moralistic, well-organized government is effectively ruled by the Department of Defense, with Law & Order also on the agenda, while International Aid and Welfare receive no funds. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Zum City. The average income tax rate is 99.5%.

The frighteningly efficient Zeonic economy, worth a remarkable 6,974 trillion Zeon credits a year, is driven entirely by a combination of government and state-owned industry, with private enterprise illegal. However, for those in the know, there is an enormous, deeply entrenched, broadly diversified black market in Arms Manufacturing and Information Technology. The private sector mostly consists of enterprising ten-year-olds selling lemonade on the sidewalk, but the government is looking at stamping this out. Soldiers on first dates introduce themselves only by their ranks and serial numbers, the Zeonic war navy contains an oddly large number of luxury yachts and cruise liners, the nation's new foreign policy of 'very disproportionate retribution' has its neighbors on edge, and Supreme Commander Gihren Zabi's Dreadnought-class tankbuster limousine is said to have more ammunition than the entire Brancalandian Army. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to a capable police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Side 3's national animal is the eagle, which can occasionally be seen dodging aircraft in the nation's cities.
