The Republic of HJT23 is a massive, orderly nation, remarkable for its barren, inhospitable landscape, keen interest in outer space, and stringent health and safety legislation. The hard-nosed, cynical, devout population of 2.283 billion HJT23ians are ruled with an iron fist by the dictatorship government, which ensures that no-one outside the party gets too rich. In their personal lives, however, citizens are relatively unoppressed; it remains to be seen whether this is because the government genuinely cares about its people, or if it hasn't gotten around to stamping out civil rights yet.

The large, corrupt, well-organized government juggles the competing demands of Administration, Defense, and Education. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 50.2%.

The very strong HJT23ian economy, worth 200 trillion dollars a year, is driven entirely by a combination of government and state-owned industry, with private enterprise illegal. However, for those in the know, there is a large, well-organized, broadly diversified black market in Arms Manufacturing, Information Technology, Uranium Mining, and Gambling. The private sector mostly consists of enterprising ten-year-olds selling lemonade on the sidewalk, but the government is looking at stamping this out. Average income is 87,790 dollars, but there is a significant disparity between incomes, with the richest 10% of citizens earning 273,595 per year while the poor average 21,644, a ratio of 12.6 to 1.

Caroling is considered a public disturbance, military minds worry that 'the blue screen of death' on brand new operating systems may be a literal description, hordes of gardening enthusiasts are being banished from cities nationwide, and glamping HJT23ians won't sleep in a tent that doesn't include a Jacuzzi. Crime, especially youth-related, is almost non-existent, thanks to a well-funded police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. HJT23's national animal is the cobra, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation.

HJT23 is ranked 76,427th in the world and 2,945th in Lazarus for Largest Insurance Industry, scoring 2,866.45 on the Risk Expulsion Effectiveness Rating.
