The Texian defenders throw themselves at the gap in the line, attempting to hold back the Mexicans to little effect. Soon the Texians are broken up into smaller groups of several hundred. Sam Houston leads the largest group of around 600, although the chaos has seperated him from the majority of his general staff. Houston's contigent fights like cornered badgers, killing nearly 4 Mexicans for every one of their own. Houston attempts to break through the Mexican onslaught to regroup with other cut off contigents. These contigents also fight like hell, though ammo is running low and the men are fatigued from the sudden night battle. Meanwhile the Texian government, which managed to narrowly flee the battle, heads across the border to Louisiana and makes a case to the Louisiana state governor to send the state militia to assist the Texians. The Louisiana state governor debates this, and after a while he decides to send 2,000 state volunteers as off the books assistance.

Despite the death they continue pushing on, Calvary does its job of cutting down rebels efficiently while infantry continue struggling for ground, during the fighting the general notices Houston in the crowd and tells all men near that continent to capture him making regrouping more difficult, the Mexicans also begin using cannons at close range that cut through the Texians like butter.

Meanwhile Urreas nearing Houston hears about the group from Louisiana and is made to send a de facto representative demanding they don’t send the militia or face the army, at the same time he sends a letter to DC asking the US government to control its states before turning his army towards the route from the border with Louisiana that leads to Houston. Along with that he sends out scout Calvary ahead in hopes of seeing them.
