The Borderlands of Zoronoa is a colossal, efficient nation, ruled by Shimotsuki Tashigi with an iron fist, and notable for its ritual sacrifices, complete absence of social welfare, and stringent health and safety legislation. The hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 6.704 billion Zoronoans are ruled by a mostly-benevolent dictator, who grants the populace the freedom to live their own lives but watches carefully for anyone to slip up.

The tiny, corrupt government juggles the competing demands of Defense, Industry, and Public Transport. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Santōryu. The average income tax rate is 6.7%.

The all-consuming Zoronoan economy, worth 712 trillion katanas a year, is fairly diversified and led by the Gambling industry, with major contributions from Tourism, Arms Manufacturing, and Soda Sales. Black market activity is frequent. Average income is an impressive 106,316 katanas, and evenly distributed, with the richest citizens earning only 4.6 times as much as the poorest.

Shimotsuki Tashigi is strangely popular with male politicians' wives, Shimotsuki Tashigi has been known to threaten dissenting citizens with a machine gun at press conferences, on graduation day the hats thrown in the air fly high enough to stun passing pigeons, and garishly-decorated government buildings are being hailed as the height of 'religious nouveau'. Crime, especially youth-related, is all-pervasive, perhaps because of the country's complete lack of prisons. Zoronoa's national animal is the zoroark, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its national religion is either swordsmanship or kendo.

Zoronoa is ranked 282,823rd in the world and 14th in The Straw Hat Pirates for Safest, scoring 4.34 on the Bubble-Rapp Safety Rating.
