It isn’t the responsibility of the Home Secretary, yet he still ordered it. I have asked the Home Secretary the same question. When I’m home I will look further into it as I personally haven’t ordered any closure

Generally a land invasion requires a 3:1 advantage as a rule of thumb. An island invasion would require a much larger advantage. GBF's coastline is dotted with military bases with the purpose of defending the airspace with long range radars and AA missiles for both aircraft and missiles. To defeat these systems, you would need to overwhelm it with an extreme amount of ordinance. Modern advanced radars can differentiate between what it is seeing using parameters such as size (radar cross section), velocity, trajectory path, etc. This means that throwing cheaper things in hordes to protect more expensive missiles (such as nukes) is less effective since the system can target the most important things. Another factor is GBF's massive navy, which would keep the fighting far out from GBF's shoreline. Lastly, GBF is a nuclear power and reserves the right to use nuclear weapons as retaliation against WMDs (both chemical and biological) as well as the right to use nuclear weapons to protect it's existence.

The point of this isn't to say you can't invade GBF, but to more so point out that even without being in a two front war, it would be an immense expenditure of resources and still have low chances of success. Glory Be Ferret has a powerful economy and high tax rates, and a large percentage (larger than the U.S. IRL) of that goes into a huge defense budget. It invests extreme amounts of money into securing it's land and takes pride in doing so. I would like to make sure we are on the same page since this isn't just a 'casual' invasion.

The remaining FIR insurgents appear to have gathered around an old reinforced stronghold in the southernmost mountains. All communications infrastructure in the area has been destroyed by GBF fighters, leaving the FIR in the dark. At 0100 hours bombardment of the stronghold will begin with heavy use of thermobaric bunker bombs, guided rocket artillery, and conventional artillery.

The bombardment begins, targeting both the stronghold itself and enemy positions around it. Glory Be Ferretian forces move in under the cover of night, and clear the land of any remaining FIR presence. The stronghold is fully secured after a short battle lasting into the evening of the next night. Alfred Henderson's body, the leader of the Free Island Resistance, is identified the next day. He was killed in the collapse of the bunker he was in.

GBF forces remain in the region for the following weeks patrolling the territory and guarding the checkpoints with no sign of any FIR activity, and all available intelligence suggests the FIR had gathered all it's remaining forces in the mountains for a 'righteous' last stand. The formerly contested land begins to be demilitarized, and Glory Be Ferretian businesses are offered tax breaks and subsidization packages for ventures in the region in an effort to begin developing it.

OOC: The Free Island Resistance was supposed to be just a small scale insurgency to add some substance to the annexation of the southern island, but I honestly just never got around to roleplaying it and the posts ended up being like a week+ inbetween. It's finally wrapped up, but I am sorry for the large gaps between posts about it.
