The Nomadic Peoples of Haunted Forests is a massive, orderly nation, notable for its state-planned economy, devotion to social welfare, and stringent health and safety legislation. The compassionate, cynical population of 4.299 billion Ghosts are ruled with an iron fist by the dictatorship government, which ensures that no-one outside the party gets too rich. In their personal lives, however, citizens are relatively unoppressed; it remains to be seen whether this is because the government genuinely cares about its people, or if it hasn't gotten around to stamping out civil rights yet.

The enormous, socially-minded, well-organized government juggles the competing demands of Welfare, Education, and Healthcare. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of A Spooky Cabin. The average income tax rate is 62.7%, and even higher for the wealthy.

The sizeable but stagnant Spooky economy, worth 47.8 trillion Deutsche Marks a year, is driven entirely by a combination of government and state-owned industry, with private enterprise illegal. However, for those in the know, there is a slick, highly efficient black market in Automobile Manufacturing, Uranium Mining, Book Publishing, and Woodchip Exports. The private sector mostly consists of enterprising ten-year-olds selling lemonade on the sidewalk, but the government is looking at stamping this out. Average income is 11,118 Deutsche Marks, and distributed extremely evenly, with practically no difference between the richest and poorest citizens.

Economic planning is exalted as a human art form, democratic debates have been removed from the government, Ghosts caught jaywalking often have their houses seized by the police, and Mr Happy's Funland has just been named Haunted Forests's new capital. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to a well-funded police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Haunted Forests's national animal is the white rabbit, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests.

Haunted Forests is ranked 181,867th in the world and 7,758th in Balder for Most Scientifically Advanced, scoring 51.38 on the Kurzweil Singularity Index.
