The convoy from the northern seas had drifted south-west, ending up in the vicinity of Liss Port Authority's detection system. The ships were then contacted, in an attempt to establish their status and origin:

<This is Liss Port Authority, you are now trespassing a maritime border of Midribbonian Republic. Please state your ships' name, information on weapons aboard the ships and your country of origin. Turn off your engines and remain in your current location, the coastal guard will arrive shortly.>

It was not uncommon for unknown ships to cross the border on accident, especially due to pirate activity in northern part of the Patima Sea. The dispatcher messaging to the ships was, thus, expecting a lost trading barge with its convoy, chased south by the pirates.
