Most people don't talk about it unless they are pro-abortion because they don't want to good bad to others and harm other sensibilities. They only have freedom of expression in their bubbles of people thinking the same thing where where will have power for nothing to change it.
It happened on this community, a post supressed for fear of merely appear looking polemic.
Childlessness and abortion is in fact a rational choice if you take the perspective of the indivifual, and by rational I don't say that it's not totally dysfunctional at all.
1. Children became expensive, even in countries that PAY you to have children due to low fertility rates, extremely few people have economic conditions to have a baby, maybe before you have the choice to try it on poverty but if you do now the government will bully you.
2. Western societies have a decadent ethos that made children a bad thing: Westerners are on full hedonism, why to have children if you may live well in parties, if you may have more time to get better positions at your job and academic degrees? Children take your time, it mades a lot of noise and don't have any power.
3. It's a society with contraception and oversexualized: Sex is meant for pleasure and reproduction, with contraceptive and multiple partners the second part is eliminated for the over-indulgence of the first, with no peril of getting pregnant by accident.
4. Plannet parenthood: I once get a girlfriend pregnant, I was on dispair, I ask an older friend, that this was not planned at all, he just answered.
- Life just happens.
So I understand, natural pregnancy is the rule, most of the pregnancy on history were never ever planned at all. With technology to plan when to get children, people have no baby at all. About the pregnancy, a miscarriage happened, it was a girl, her name would be Athena.
5. Women's "rights" (and now the fear of being polemic and getting suppressed again): When Western Societies put woman to work, it was to compensate the males that go to war, after the governments discovered that by putting woman on work they may double tax incomes, this give to woman the oportunity of having a life climbing the professional ladder and put the option to have children later, or to don't have children at all.
When most woman that delayed or initially choose to don't have children choose to have it, they were already with fertility decaying, in UK a lot of almost 40 woman protest against their local governments refusing to give fertility rating. They spent so much time on a pleasure carrousel or just working so much on the career that they discovered that it's so late. Man don't help it either, but man fertility take so much more time to end, a man on his 50's may have a children, in fact I saw accidental pregnancy with man over 70's.
6. Man having children is dangerous: Considering that divorce is commonplace (in fact not anymore because marriage is not commonplace), man fear having kids. As a lawyer I deal with this problem on both times a lot of times. Some woman use the children to make blackmail, if you don't pay the monthly money you can't see thr children, they poison the kid against their fathers and spend the money that was to be directed to the children on futile things, the man go to prison or may lose all he have if he don't pay her. Sometimes the woman just choose the worst time for the man to see the children or when it's the designated time she disappear with the kid or come up later "I was with the children on park, I'm really sorry...". In the end the father only pay monthly tuition for the children that he never see and that another man may end up loved by them as the father role, because the woman poisoned the children against them. On a judgement in 90% of the judgements the woman alone have the power over children, that's why generally I propose the children one week on the house of the mother and one week in the house of the father, but the woman always get the money and may blackmail, always, they have being so much empowered, turning irrational to have children for man at all.
7. There is no religious values in the West anymore.
Western societies may have mostly Christian minds but have an atheist ethos. People may even believe in God but the fact is that we live as if He don't exists, all of us. Most of us certainly made sex before marriage and for pleasure only, and with condoms, I'm putting me in here despite last years I discovered that maybe I'm a bit asexual but would make sex for reproductive reasons only, I have more pleasure with my mind than with orgasm. There is no true religious compromise, most people even among believers find weird don't have sex before marriage, in fact they find even marriage weirds, they made love unions, the excuse for this in Law Theory is that families are made to be "eudaimonic", to make you happy, that is why poliamory is becoming probably the rule in the West next decade. The family is not made to make you happy, of course this counts too but it's not it's main and unique purpose, the purpose is to continue the civilization or tribe and to a Christian to multiply as God commanded us to do. This is so sick that people find strange people with more than one or two children, people only do so much kids here to get government pensions, to marry with the government.
And last but not least, Westerners or westerner influenced people lives in cowardice, they don't defend these things in public because most of them live a secular life despite being Christians and fear being uncool, suppressing even other Christians if needed to appear cool amongst other people, so it is certain that abortion will be more common, more widespread and childlessness will continue to be the rule until the inevitable collapse of West and westernized nations on the planet.
