Thaecian Political Parties

Thaecia offers a number of political parties that you may register to join by sending a telegram to the leader of the party you seek to become a member of. Parties that are given official recognition can be found in this dispatch. Parties are listed in alphabetical order.

Overview

Founded on March 1st 2024, the Imperial Party of Thaecia (IMP) is a conservative, monarchist, pro-parliamentarism and pro-bicameralism political party in Thaecia. We support the establishment of a principled and independent Elective Monarchy, as well as the general maintenance of core Thaecian traditions and its long-lasting political system.

Home Affairs

  1. Elective Monarchy: The Imperial Party supports the establishment of an Elective Monarchy in the region. We envision an Elective Monarchy not only as a way to differ Thaecia from the rest of the world, but also as an additional means to promote activity, through the implementation of systems such as royal houses, titles and awards. We also believe the monarch should be required to remain unaffiliated to a political party, as a representative of the people at large, and that they should serve a one year term.

  2. House of Lords: We support the reformation of the Senate into a "House of Lords", an upper chamber appointed by merit and capable of providing fair and impartial scrutiny. Being nominated to be a lord would occur in two ways: monarchical-awarding of a peerage, which would be possible for up to three sitting members of the chamber, as well as automatic nomination for service to the region, available to merit-based positions, such as the Prime Minister, Chief Justice, Speaker of the Commons and Electoral Commissioner, provided they served in office for a minimum period of time. For the maintenance of democracy, we believe the Lords should not be able to block legislation which received over three-fifths support in the Commons, instead only having the power to suggest amendments to said bills. Such a system would ensure that bills which pass the House with thin margins can be properly scrutinised before becoming law.

  3. Representative Democracy: We are staunchly opposed to any attempts to transition the region into a direct democracy, a system we believe would only serve to destroy Thaecia's long-lasting political system. We are committed to representative democracy, while also supporting a sensible, common sense policy in favour of referenda for big, region-defining issues.

  4. Opposition to Frontier Transition: At present, our party stands in opposition to the transition of Thaecia into a "frontier" region. While we recognise the possible benefits to our population numbers, it is not yet clear if our region can protect itself from raiders, nor whether most new nations would even be properly integrated into the region. We support the maintenance of our status as a "stronghold" region for the foreseeable future, while encouraging recruitment through the means of stamps and manual recruitment.

  5. Pro-Parliamentarism: The Imperial Party supports the transitioning of the region into a parliamentary system of democracy. We believe that the greater integration between the Executive and Legislative branches, provided by parliamentarism, would be an incentive for newcomers to get involved in executive work, while also ensuring that the Executive is more properly accountable to the legislature, and that unpopular governments can be brought down by parliament.

  6. Pro-Bicameralism: Our party remains committed to support Thaecia's historically bicameral legislature. We believe that bicameralism remains an effective force through which ensure a system of checks and balances in the legislature, while also differing Thaecia from other regions.

  7. Position Restrictions: We believe in the implementation of a set of restrictions to government officials holding multiple positions at once. We are staunchly opposed to positions such as the Electoral Commissioner, as well as Justices of the High Court, being able to sit in parliament, as this would configure a clear conflict of interest.

  8. Opposition to State-Owned Media: The Imperial Party expresses its utmost opposition to the establishment of state-owned media. We believe such organisations to be tools of the existing government to spread propaganda to the citizenry.

Foreign Affairs

  1. Soft-Isolationism: The Imperial Party believes that the region should adopt a soft-isolationist approach to foreign affairs. While the region should continue to build embassies and sign treaties with friendly regions, we must remember that Thaecia's success lies within Thaecia itself, and as such the government should never seek to drop a policy that is beneficial to our region in order to please a third party.

  2. Opposition to Interregional Organisations: We express our staunch opposition to Thaecia's entry into any foreign organisations that would constitute any form of political union with power over Thaecia. We must not allow our laws to be written outside of our region.

  3. Pro-Interregional Collaboration: The Imperial Party is supportive of the region participating in interregional events, such as the likes of N-Day, with its allies. Such events are good means through which promote activity between regions in a healthy and respectful manner.

  4. Pro-Military: Our party remains committed to supporting Thaecia's longstanding military forces. Our enemies must perish in the battlefield.

Legal Affairs

  1. Judicial Independence: The Imperial Party believes Justices of the High Court must be constitutionally mandated to remain unaffiliated to a political party. Judicial independence is key for there to be trust in the institution of the High Court, and that is not possible with a partisan court.

  2. Monarchical Nomination of Justices: With a future implementation of the Thaecian Monarchy, the Imperial Party would support moving judicial nominations to the independent figure of the monarch, with the justices then being confirmed by parliament following a hearing.

  3. Private Property as a Right: Our party believes that legislation should be introduced in order to protect the rights of privately-owned organisations, such as political parties and news organisations, in order to ensure that names and logos can not be stolen by ill-intentioned citizens.

  4. Opposition to Lower Courts: At present the Imperial Party opposes the creation of Lower Courts, as we believe them to be unnecessary due to the historically low volume of court cases.

Cultural Affairs

  1. Roleplay Autonomy: The Imperial Party supports roleplay autonomy, believing the government should generally not intervene in internal roleplay policy. We believe that a Roleplay Minister/Director, along with a roleplay staff selected by said minister, should autonomously manage the roleplay.

  2. Regional Polls: We support the continuation of RMB polls as a means to promote activity and discussion within the region. We do note however, that many polls are often not very interesting and fail at this task. We believe the government should seek to explore polls of various political issues, including real life ones, as a means to generate discussion and debate.

  3. Regional Events: Our party is of the opinion that cultural events is not where Thaecia's main focus is, and will very likely never be. That said, we do recognise there to still be some form of demand for such events, and stand in support of the continuing existence of the Cultural Affairs Ministry to promote them through Thaecia's discord server. Additionally, we believe the government should explore activities with demonstrable popularity in the past, such as some form of Thaecian "Minecraft Server".

Party Constitution

  1. Sovereign: The Party Sovereign is to serve as the de-facto leader of the Imperial Party of Thaecia. A vote of no-confidence in the Sovereign may be proposed with the support of a third of party members. Should the Sovereign lose the confidence of a majority of the party, a new election for Sovereign is to be held.

  2. Deputy Sovereign: The Deputy Sovereign is to serve at the de-facto deputy leader of the Imperial Party of Thaecia. The Deputy Sovereign is to be appointed/dismissed by the Sovereign at their leisure. Should the Sovereign resign, the Deputy Sovereign shall take over as Sovereign in an acting fashion until a new election for Sovereign is held.

  3. Elections: Elections for the position of Sovereign are to be organised by the Deputy Sovereign. Said election shall be held through a public ballot with a two-round voting system. The two candidates with the most votes in the first round shall advance to a second round, in which the candidate with the most votes shall be victorious.

  4. Manifesto and Conventions: The Manifesto of the Imperial Party of Thaecia may be amended unilaterally by the Party Sovereign at their leisure. In the leading up to a General Election, the party shall convene for a Party Convention in order to discuss policy and changes to the manifesto.

  5. Party Constitution: Changes to the Party Constitution may be presented by the Sovereign, or by party members with support of a third of the membership. All changes to the Party Constitution shall require approval of two-thirds of voting members.

National Reform Party of Thaecia [NRP]

Strongly Committed to Parliamentarianism; Thaecia Stronger Reformed

Our Mission

When Thaecia brought almost everyone in we had a strong Congress that was the root for this region. Now it is time to bring Thaecia back to this time that we all look back on fondly, this is what has made Thaecia SHINE. But still recognising the days of modern politics that must embrace the executive as well as the primary leadership of Thaecia. It is clear that the Congress of Thaecia is the key to our activity otherwise we would not have gone through this way. It is our proposal that we must embrace Congress as the key component of our region and turn it into a PERSISTENTLY ACTIVE regard of the government.

If we do not do this, we will only end back up here in five more years once we have run out of legislation again. Bringing the Legislative and Executive aspects of our region together will fuse them into a permanently active solution for as long as we can think of.

Our Policies

Domestic Government
  • 11 seat, one chamber House of Commons: resembling the most successful size of our lower house, without the baggage of a bicameral system to juggle. This will enable revitalised party politics with a reason for parties to battle for the legislature, giving our region activity in political gaming again, which brought almost all of us to Thaecian politics.

  • Prime Minister and Cabinet sitting in the House, ensuring that the legislature must be executively focused, with the Prime Minister holding the host of regular parliamentarian leadership powers, enabling a powerful executive led legislature.

  • A reduced Executive to three Ministers to reduce the juggle of too many disconnected departments, instead prioritising Secretaries as new Deputy Ministers who have the authority to manage their department of the ministry giving Deputies a reason to engage with the region, even if not in politics, which has before been absent; Ministers instead will take an overarching leadership role, rather than necessarily a direct role in all regards.

    • There will be one Minister of Domestic Affairs, who will handle the current domestic portfolio, plus the legal portfolio. Domestic Affairs will be divided into three secretaries; Integration, Recruitment, Administration. Removing the workload from one single minister will enable more people to be involved in Thaecian government and spread the workload evenly.

    • One Minister of Foreign Affairs, who will handle the current foreign portfolio, plus the defence portfolio. Foreign Affairs will be divided into two secretaries; Diplomacy, Defence. This is not a commitment to a consistently active army; instead, it is a commitment to maintaining the structure for the potential of an armed forces in the future. Neglecting the armed forces entirely would be a mistake.

    • One Minister of Cultural Affairs, who will handle the current cultural portfolio, plus roleplay and communications. There will be three secretaries; Events, Roleplay, News. The recreation of the Thaecian Newspaper will give a way for the onsite community to interact and the specialisation of an Events Secretary will allow for the hosting of events to be specifically delegated rather than roped into one overloaded cultural minister.

      • The aforementioned nationalisation of the Roleplay. The Roleplay is what brought many people into Thaecia, and its neglect through its autonomous system has caused it to slowly decay. Bringing it into the fold as a key part of our region is necessary for continued survival of our system.

  • A separately elected Speaker of the House who will serve as a purely neutral arbitrator of debates, rather than a political position that is unnecessarily fought over at the beginning of terms.

Electoral Reform
  • A simplified electoral system of standard single-transferable vote. The decimal system for the transfer of votes is arguably fairer and more democratic; weighted votes are arguably fairer and more democratic. However, in a region where there are less than 100 active people, the usage of systems designed for elections with millions of votes cast is ridiculous and reduces the Electoral Commission to those with maths degrees. It should not take intense training to run the democratic system. Under our new electoral system all votes will be worth one vote and equally transferred.

  • Once every 4 months, House of Commons elections - that's practically it. There is electoral overload in Thaecia. Prime Minister, House, Senate, Delegate. The abolition of the Senate and fusion of the House and Prime Minister will ensure that the Electoral Commission is not overloaded with consistent elections, resulting in the EC needing replacement every few months. The Speaker will be elected alongside the House of Commons through instant runoff voting. Additionally, if the House of Commons has a snap-election called mid-term, the new election will begin a new term; this will ensure there are not snap-elections too close to the start of a new term to be meaningful.

  • The replacement of Delegate elections with a new challenge system. The Delegate is a typically non-political role and should function as such. Under our new system, the Delegate will be elected to a six-month term. After their term expires, they will not leave office, but instead become susceptible to challenge, where any Thaecian can run against them with five sponsors, instigating an election between the Delegate and their challenger. This will ensure there are no more unnecessary elections for Delegate when they are outrageously popular as a non-political symbol.

  • Monthly designated positions for snap elections. Instead of a consistent barrage of snap elections, they will occur on a regularly designated period halfway through every month. This will reduce election congestion and resolve the major issues with snap elections.

Cultural Reform
  • The installation of new royal-esque Houses and Noble Titles. We will be developing a unique system of royal titles to recognise Thaecian's achievements, beyond the current three-tier limited Order of Thaecia system, ranging from Duchies to Counties to Baronies. The region's culture and theme will be intensely developed through the introduction of a set of houses and titles, allowing Thaecians to identify with groups of other Thaecians. These Houses will also compete in regional cultural events for points to earn different prizes. This will incentivise involvement in cultural games for Thaecians.
