***** State of The Region Address *****

February 27, 2011

It is our great pleasure to announce that once again, the long-awaited Texas Elections process has begun on the offsite forum! Currently we are accepting nominations for 6 positions of the Texas Cabinet and 10 positions of the Texas Representative Council! All nations are free to make nominations whether they are registered on the offsite forum or not. If you are not registered, we ask that you sign your post with your nation name and send us a telegram on NationStates so we can confirm it was your nomination and not someone off the street. Information and postings should be made here: http://invisionfree.invalid.com/forums/Texas/index.php?showforum=237 - it can also be navigated to by going to the URL in the Factbook entry above and then going to NationStates Texas Forum->Texas Government Forums->Texas Election Commission->Current Elections. Please note that there are two threads - one for the Cabinet and one for the Texas Representative Council. Please participate in both. There is also a place to make New Articles, Amendments & Repeals to the Texas Constitution.

The nomination process will be the first of three parts, each lasting one week. First, any Texan can nominate any other Texan for any of the positions listed (please read the rules on the post and in the Notes section). After a week of this activity, the next week will include any speeches or comments by the candidates, questions for the candidates and responses by the candidates; this will last seven days. Finally, polls will be created and the final voting will last for one week. Only Texans as of today - February 27, 2011 - will be eligible to vote.

Nominations close at High Noon (GMT -6) Sunday March 6, 2011. Constitutional matters close Sunday March 13, 2011.

Any questions about any of these positions can be asked publicly on this forum, privately by telegram to NewTexas, via Personal Message on the offsite board or by e-mail on that board. The URL for the Texas Forum is http://invisionfree.invalid.com/forums/Texas/

Thank you in advance for your participation! And, by all means, participate and Have Fun!

Long Live The Great Region of Texas!

**** New WA Resolution Notification *****

There is currently a new General Assembly Resolution at vote. When expressing your opinion, please note which Resolution it is for. And remember Texans, your individual vote does count!

The new Resolution is called:
"Repeal "Space Research Station Program"
A resolution to repeal previously passed legislation

Category: Repeal Resolution: GA#115 Proposed by: Darenjo

Description: WA General Assembly Resolution #115: Space Research Station Program (Category: Education and Creativity; Area of Effect: Educational) shall be struck out and rendered null and void.

Argument: The General Assembly,

RE-ACKNOWLEDGING that many nations are not able to reach outer space"...

<see WA for full text>

Ok, the Repeals just keep on rolling! This one passed back in October of last year and was promptly put up for a Repeal a month later that failed. It passed with 78% of the vote the first time, so it wasn't really close and Texans were mostly for it 4-1. The author makes some questionable points such as only one space station for 12000 member nations. The original Resolution makes no mention of the size of that one space station - it could be bigger than many moons - no one knows, so this is not really an issue. They also consider the ability of the thing to fund itself to be an issue - since when has any Resolution taken into account how it was going to be funded?!? Sure, maybe a couple, but by and large, it all happens by magic or gnomes or something. There are several other points that seem to bother the author that do not bother us like if it is attacked, who is going to pay to fix it and what is it going to "do". The author seems to be more concentrated on the leaves and is missing the forest. We do not agree with much of this repeal. As a reminder, the issue here is the REPEAL of the existing law. A vote AGAINST this Resolution means you are in favor of the existing law and do not want it repealed. A vote FOR this Resolution means you want the law off the books. NewTexas will go on record as AGAINST on this Resolution. This is only the opinion of NewTexas. We look forward to other Texans' opinions and comments on this Resolution. If good arguments to the contrary are made, we will reconsider our position.

The Texas response rate was way up a on the last GA vote [Repeal "Universal Standard Time Act"], which passed narrowly with 57.90% of the vote. As a reminder, all we are looking for is a simple 10% of Texans to say one way or another. We are a force for change in the WA. Every vote counts! There were 12 opinions expressed on the last Resolution with the final Texas tally running 7 FOR and 3 AGAINST and 2 ABSTAIN and 0 UNDECIDED. Texans were a little split on that one.

NewTexas is open to suggestions on how we should vote on this Resolution to most accurately reflect opinion of the populace. All comments are welcome from all nations, both WA Members as well as those who are not. *As always, the WA Delegate vote will be based on popular opinion.*

Please make your voice heard on the current issue either on this message board or on our offsite message board. But, by all means, please vote on the WA Page!

If you would like to take part in shaping the world you live in, please vote. Voting is a right and a privilege, please consider using it.

All WA Member nations please vote. Please make your opinions known by 11:00pm Wednesday as voting ends at 11:00pm Texas Time on Thursday the 3rd. Current voting in The World is running - Votes FOR: 2833 Votes AGAINST: 904

Big Tex

PS: Don't forget to vote!

Once again, against the repeal. Why is the text on NewTexas' post messed up? Same with the titles of all of my pages...?

AGAINST the Repeal.

Post self-deleted by Richard I.

Seems like the Modz had that covered.

They say if you are roundhouse kicked by Chuck Norris in a dream, you die in real life! :0

Guess I'm the first to delete a post in Texas.

Chuck Norris wears sunglasses to protect the sun from his eyes.

Hmm - Post self-deleted by Richard I. - didn't realize you could do that. We hope it gave you a warning first. Maybe there will be less Mod intervention if peeps can censor themselves after they realize they can "take it back" now. Probably less "Founder Clearing" too, although that has not been much of a problem here in Texas.

Maybe we should test the "Suppression" feature. We suspect we cannot suppress our own posts, just delete our own, but suppress anybody else's. Anybody want to be suppressed? ;>

Note: The above message is purely to test the suppression and does not reflect the official position of the Trecdom government. ,

Happy Texas Independence Day! For those unaware of the meaning of this day, on March 2, 1836, Texas declared its independence from Mexico and became the Republic of Texas. History was forever changed. For ten years, from 1836 to 1846, Texas existed as a separate and unique nation. In Texas, March 2 is an official state holiday - Texas Independence Day. Each year, there are numerous parades, festivals and even a complete historical reenactment of the event. Happy Texas Independence Day y'all!

Maybe we should have a mutli-cultural breakfast to celebrate. Breakfast tacos and trail ride biscuits would probably be in order.

Enjoy the day off for those who get it!

Midterms are evil.

Yup! Thank goodness I finally got done with those things!

Then there is just the always random tests that pop up in the real world!

I think this was my only real midterm, and unless I go to grad school may be my last one for a while. :)
