Confirmed: NSA conducts warrantless searches on Americans

United States intelligence officials have been scouring the personal communications of innocent Americans, the nation’s top spy chief now acknowledges, using a procedure that’s allegedly lawful and constitutionally sound.

Director of National Intelligence James Clapper admitted as much in a letter sent last week to US Senator Ron Wyden (D-Oregon), who two months ago was promised an answer by the DNI during a heated discussion on the floor of Congress about what the National Security Agency can and cannot do.

The debate between Wyden and the country’s top intelligence officer began much earlier than that, though, and Clapper’s latest acknowledgement comes nine months after the NSA insisted Americans needn’t worry about being targeted by the US government’s vast surveillance apparatus.

Since the George W. Bush administration, the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act has provided the American government with the ability to collect communications sent to or from any non US-persons located abroad, and Sen. Wyden has been one of the most adamant critics of that authority since even before the first Snowden leaks surfaced last June. Practically one year before the NSA leaker became a household name, in fact, Sen. Wyden asked the Inspector General of the Intelligence Community for details on how many Americans have been targeted by the NSA since Section 702 of the FISA Amendments Act was approved in 2008 and the NSA began to sweep up the online and over-the-phone activities of Americans engaged in conversation with persons located outside of the country.

“If no one will even estimate how many Americans have had their communications collected under this law then it is all the more important that Congress act to close the ‘back door searches’ loophole, to keep the government from searching for Americans’ phone calls and emails without a warrant,” Wyden told Wired’s Danger Room back in June 2012.

When the first Snowden leaks began one year to the month later, the NSA issued a “fact sheet” that said Section 702 authority “allows only the targeting, for foreign intelligence purposes, of communications of foreign persons who are located abroad.”

“The government may not target any US person anywhere in the world under this authority, nor may it target a person outside of the US if the purpose is to acquire information from a particular, known person inside the US,” the memorandum continued.

Even then, however, Wyden wasn’t satisfied. "We were disappointed to see that this fact sheet contains an inaccurate statement about how the Section 702 authority has been interpreted by the US government," he wrote in a joint letter to then-NSA Director Gen. Keith Alexander sent last June along with the signature of Sen. Mark Udall. "In our judgment this inaccuracy is significant, as it portrays protections for Americans' privacy as being significantly stronger than they actually are."

As the NSA leaks continued to drip, last August Mr. Snowden supplied The Guardian newspaper with cold hard proof that reaffirmed Sen. Wyden’s worries.

“The National Security Agency has a secret backdoor into its vast databases under a legal authority enabling it to search for US citizens' email and phone calls without a warrant,” journalists James Ball and Spencer Ackerman wrote for the paper last August after seeing a secret NSA document supplied to them by Snowden.

When Clapper testified before Congress earlier this year, Wyden once more insisted on getting a straight answer out of the intelligence community’s top officer. During a January 29 intelligence hearing on worldwide threats, Wyden asked Clapper if the NSA has ever conducted “warrantless searches” on the information contained in those databases by using “specific” Americans’ identifying information to conduct those queries.

At the time, Clapper said he’d prefer not to discuss the matter in the midst of the hearing and would instead issue a declassified answer within 30 days. That official response, albeit delayed, was sent to the senator’s office last Friday, and reaffirmed what Snowden said all along.

You can stop CORRUPTION

They are wrong all those who think that corruption is present only in real life. Many regions claim to be democratic because they vote, but how can I ensure that each player makes only one vote?

Answer: May only participate in the vote members of World Assembly. This solve the problem.

Well, not so easy...

Everyone knows that there are many players who know how to make more of one WA nation: people who work with information technology, computers, or simply experts.

For this reason it is important to take some precautions:

Create regional councils to investigate players who are disrespecting the rules affecting the democracy of the region itself.

Report to the moderators any suspicious activity.

What is suspicious activity?

Different players enter in the game at the same time, writing in the same way, have the same ideas, vote the same way...

If each region do their part we have a much better Nation States

EASTERN UKRAINE

On the advice of the Ministry of Defence Sergey Shoygu, Luhansk, Donetsk and Kharkiv will be maintained until the crisis be resolved in Ukraine. I would like to thank the international community for understanding.

CRIMEA

Forty percent of Americans do not approve of how President Obama has handled the ongoing crisis in Ukraine, according to a new Reason-Rupe survey. Some 37 percent of respondents said they approved of Obama’s course of action, while 21 percent said they did not know.

Thirty-one percent of respondents said the US should continue imposing limited sanctions against Russian individuals and business interests, while only 8 percent said the US should send in US troops and assets to the region.

Meanwhile, 58 percent of the 1,003 people polled said they did not want the United States to play any role in the crisis – be it economic sanctions or military action.

The nationwide telephone poll was conducted from March 26-30.

Big Brother’s Facebook: UK, US intelligence ‘infiltrating’ social media

American and British intelligence hope to take advantage of social media platforms, like Twitter, YouTube and Facebook, in an effort to spread disinformation and propaganda, as well as potentially foment public protests, recent Snowden leaks claim.

According to Glenn Greenwald, the journalist who first broke the news on the Snowden NSA leaks, an Orwellian-style dystopia is lurking on the horizon as western spy agencies see an opportunity for manipulating public opinion and disseminating state propaganda by exploiting global internet giants, such as Flickr, YouTube, Facebook and Twitter.

“These ideas – discussions of how to exploit the internet, specifically social media, to surreptitiously disseminate viewpoints friendly to Western interests and spread false or damaging information about targets – appear repeatedly throughout the archive of materials provided by NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden,” Greenwald revealed in the online publication, The Intercept, where he is an editor.

While it is already known is that British analysts had instructed the NSA in 2012 how to conduct real-time surveillance on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube, as well as collect the computer addresses of billions of the sites’ users, the new report shows the GCHQ has moved to actively push particular news stories into the public domain.

At the 2010 annual “SIGDEV” gathering of the “Five Eyes” surveillance alliance comprising the UK, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, and the US, discussion focused on developing methods for the purpose of “discrediting” foreign governments by secretly exploiting social media for “propaganda,” “deception,” “mass messaging,” and “pushing stories,” Greenwald reveals.

The leaked documents are from a GCHQ publication titled ‘Psychology: A New Kind of SIGDEV’ (Signals Development).

Russia is in dire need of military bases

The United States has 500 military bases around the world, while Russia only has four plus two logistics points, editor in chief of Arsenal of the Fatherland Victor Murakhovski said in a live broadcast of Pravda.Ru. Even in this situation the United States strongly impedes recreation of Russian military bases, especially in Central Asia and in the Pacific Rim.

"Currently Russia has military bases in Tajikistan, South Ossetia, Abkhazia and Armenia. There are logistics points in the port of Tartus in Syria and in the port of Cam Ranh Bay in Vietnam. Now a similar military facility in Belarus is being established. So far it is unclear what it will be called," said Viktor Murakhovski.

The expert said that in Soviet times the country had a military base in Cuba with deployed land, mechanized infantry and armored units, air defense, and electronic intelligence. There were bases in Somalia and Ethiopia, in the archipelago Dahlak, and in some other places." Victor Murakhovski believes that today's potential is about 50 percent of the potential of the USSR. According to him, today the Americans who have 500 military bases in different parts of the world are trying to prevent the restoration of Russian military influence and placement of Russian bases in Central Asia and the Asia-Pacific Region (APR). This is evidenced by the story of the Russian military base in Kant, Kyrgyzstan. "The Americans tend to control the main trade routes of the Pacific where their main trading partners and powerful military powers are China, Japan, and Korea. Russia did not have anything in this region. Only recently Kamran was recreated," Murakhovski said. He added that the Americans also decided to leave the nine bases in Afghanistan despite the impending withdrawal of ISAF coalition forces.

"30,000 ISAF troops will be withdrawn from Afghanistan, but the bases will remain in the area under the pretext of creating training units for the new Afghan army. They will be fortresses that will control vast areas with fire," said Viktor Murakhovski.

The expert believes that widely criticized leadership of the former minister Anatoly Serdyukov did not affect the issue of creating new bases of the Russian Federation abroad. "I would not talk about Serdyukov so negatively. He acted in line with the course of the military reform developed by the Council of National Security and the Russian president before the 2008 events in the Caucasus. The events in South Ossetia forced a quick promotion of a military reform, a compact, professional army, always ready units, increased share of contractors, and humanization of military service. The Minister made certain mistakes in the field of military education, military healthcare, outsourcing (only in permanent locations), in the area of upgrading and establishing a normal dialogue with the industry, but these mistakes have been corrected," said the expert.

He believes that Anatoly Serdyukov has to be given credit for some things. "The military bases in Abkhazia and South Ossetia were deployed, and military base 201 was transferred entirely to the contract system. Anatoly Serdyukov has done some good things."

Victor Murakhovski explained that the cost of maintaining military bases is determined by bilateral agreements. "Russia bears most of the cost and undertakes the supply of arms and equipment, training of military personnel with respect to the host countries. As far as I know, we do not pay for maintenances of the bases like the Americans do, we barter."
The expert does not think that the military base in Armenia may be shut down. "There is a motorized infantry brigade there, battalion S-300, and air squadron. This base ensures the territorial integrity of Armenia."

The expert believes the position of the Russian base in Sevastopol to be unshakable and stipulated by an intergovernmental agreement. "Russia, in case of a conflict, will legitimately resist and will be supported by the population of the Crimea."

Victor Murakhovski noted that a high level of security in the country must be maintained, so the military budget should not be redistributed to social spending. Especially because for over 20 years sufficient funds were not allocated to the army, which has led to the fact that in the North Caucasus in the two Chechen campaigns instead of an army we had an unmanaged conglomerate of people in green uniforms.

As for the modern army, the tests conducted in the summer showed that it was in satisfactory condition, but it should be in a good or, even better, great condition. "The army has to be re-equipped, and an increase in spending on rearmament must be planned. One third of the funds will be spent before 2015 and two-thirds after 2015. The emphasis is on upgrading of reconnaissance and communications, aerospace defense, aviation, precision weapons, impact weapons and strategic nuclear forces, Russia's "sacred cow." In the next year over 40 new intercontinental ballistic missiles will be delivered to the troops," said Victor Murakhovski.

The use of unmanned aerial vehicles is becoming increasingly more important - no sanctions, no declaration of war. The Americans are flying over Iran to strike at Pakistan, Somalia, Yemen and other countries. Russian Federation will also pay more attention to this area.

The expert said that presence of Russian peacekeepers in Syria after Geneva-2 Conference was unlikely. "There were cases of attacks on Russian peacekeepers in South Ossetia, and everyone knows what it resulted in. Those who want to use peacekeeping forces for their own purposes really do not want the Russians present in Syria. Negotiators, especially from the West, will try to ensure that peacekeeping forces of the third countries are present, including India, Pakistan, and Japan," editor in chief of Arsenal of the Fatherland Victor Murakhovski concluded.

Mikhail Gorbachev to be tried for the collapse of USSR

Mikhail Gorbachev, the first and the last president of the USSR, said that the proposition to bring him to trial for the collapse of the Soviet Union was "utter nonsense." The appeals to try Gorbachev for the break-up of the Soviet empire came from several deputies of the State Duma. "These calls reflect only the desire of some deputies to their personal PR," said Gorbachev.

"They like to know that they are being talked-about. But the appeal is completely ill-conceived from the standpoint of historical facts. If this is envy, then there is nothing to envy. Deputies have many times raised the issue of raising the pension, at least to the level of deputies, but the issue was not even discussed. I am obviously in someone else's way, which can be evidenced by the fact that during the last 20 days several reports of my death have appeared. These people have no conscience. I certainly do not react to such statements, so I do my business and my health," Interfax quoted Gorbachev as saying.

Mikhail Gorbachev advised "one should seriously analyze who at the Supreme Council of Russia voted for the adoption of Belovezha Accords about the collapse of the USSR."

The idea to bring Gorbachev to trial for the collapse of the USSR came from deputies of United Russia party, Evgeny Fyodorov and Anton Romanov, communists Ivan Nikitchuk and Oleg Denisenko and member of the Liberal Democratic Party, Mikhail Degtyarev. They directed a deputy's request to Prosecutor General Yuri Chaika, to conduct investigation into the events that occurred during the collapse of the USSR.

They noted that Soviet citizens in a referendum voted to preserve the unity of the state, but top Soviet leaders committed illegal acts that caused the collapse of the country.

The MPs stressed that on November 4, 1991, the department of supervision of the execution of laws of the USSR initiated a case against Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev. However, the decision to initiate the case was lifted the next day.

According to the deputies, Gorbachev currently has no immunity against prosecution. To crown it all, they believe that such crimes as the collapse of the state have no statute of limitations.

Liberal Democrat Michael Degtyarev hopes that the investigation may give the first-ever legal assessment of the events that happened more than 20 years ago.

Evgeny Fyodorov, a member of the State Duma Committee on Budget and Taxes, told Pravda.Ru, on what grounds the idea to prosecute the actions of Mikhail Gorbachev appeared.

"It appeared in the light of the recent events in Ukraine - they are the continuation of the events of 1991. An investigation like this would have led to a legal confirmation of the fact of foreign intervention in 1991. It would legally validate the fact that the method of this intervention was a coup organized by Gorbachev.

"The materials that we sent to the investigating authorities provide the facts of this nature. To put it in a nutshell, Mikhail Gorbachev created an illegal authority (state council) for the elimination of the USSR, which not only destroyed the USSR, but also abolished the Soviet government, expelled several republics from the Soviet Union and so on.

"Gorbachev was deliberately destroying the bodies of state protection. For example, the KGB was abolished by Gorbachev in advance not to interfere with the elimination of the USSR. It was a thought-out policy. If we carry out the necessary investigation, it would expose three of today's consequences of this issue.

"First, we will evaluate the methods and technology of the fifth column that carries a direct threat to Russian statehood - the technology and methods have not changed in 23 years. The society will become aware of how these methods work.

"Secondly, we will give an incentive to national liberation movements throughout the former Soviet Union, particularly in Ukraine, where it is these slogans that people follow in Kharkov, Lugansk, Donbass, etc.

"This kind of investigative actions on the territory of Russia, the conclusions of the investigation, will strengthen the national liberation movement in Ukraine.

"Third, we will be able to assess the grounds of today's statehood of all former Soviet republics, including Russia, in terms of sovereignty. If the investigation confirms that this was a coup, then it would mean that the foundations of statehood were not completely sovereign, that they would require special procedures to strengthen sovereignty. This will automatically improving the quality of living standards, including for the citizens of the Russian Federation.

"There were anti-state crimes were committed, and no one doubts that even in preliminary stages. Accordingly, they need to be investigated. I'm sorry, but if someone steals a sack of potatoes, they investigate it, and here the consequences are much more serious," said Evgeny Fyodorov said.

You are right my friend. A region with delegate runs the risk of be invaded, but we are not just a source of news. The Russian Federation deserves more than that. And as I said in World Factbook Entry, the regional information must be updated by the new delegate.

So please. Everybody who want to help in the development of the Russian Federation, put your nation in the World Assembly and participate in the first election of the Russian Federation. The delegate will have full autonomy to lead the region.

Firstly, welcome to Russian Federation. Enjoy your stay here and do not worry, the Russian Federation live a full democracy, and the west nations have the right and freedom to express their political opinions here.

About the sanctions, will be adopted a measure of reciprocity, and the Russian Ruble is no longer used in Leetmerica. I believe that this position will not be good for either side, your sanctions were unfair because the population of Crimea opted to be part of Russia.
