There are no prerequisites for creating RPs! Anyone is free to create or to join. All I can do is try to feature some RPs on the regional factbook entry and maybe get some additional exposure. And if things are not clear, there is no regional RP (created by our region) but rather individual RPs (created by the members of our region).

What kind of RP are you interested to start? What is the theme? Can you share a few words / ideas?

i want to create a first age rp where we use characters that really existed. set in the late 1st age, to be precise, maybe based on the children of hurin

There are ample possibilities to draw from those times for a RP! The tale of Hurin and his children is quite bittersweet

i created a thread for the applications. when we get enough characters i shall create an rp thread.

I'll hop on regularly in the RP after July 10th because I'm currently in a summer program during the weekdays (I get to head back home on the weekends)

It may not become hyper-active, at least from my experience in past years residing in our region. But some level of activity is still present - especially if there's something worth talking about. I recommend to those that want a more active experience on NationStates to try the game forums (they definitely move at a faster pace) or to visit some of our more active friend-regions. Although I am very unsure where else in NationStates there's an active Tolkien-community, with active and themed discussions. And if we're the only place, then we can still try do something with what we have here.

You are definitely one of our freshest members, and so you are filled with energy and vigour - while most of the current members are a bit more seasoned and definitely not as talkative. But all it takes to entertain a discussion is to have / find a few more similar like-minded fellows. Or if we decide that we'd like to start to actively recruit for our region and get the talking going with the help of new arrivals. Am unsure what's the consensus regarding recruitment in NS nowadays .. eg. if it's worth it, if it requires to purchase stamps or if there's more success with manual recruitment etc.

We could always rebrand the region, reinterpreting the name to refer to the center of the earth. Suggested talking points would include:

  • Jules Verne's Journey to the Center of the Earth

  • Volcanism and Geothermal Energy

  • Hollow Earth Theory

  • Whether dinosaurs and the lost civilization of Atlantis can be found at the earth's core

  • The Kola Superdeep Borehole

  • Whether or not I can actually reach China by continuing to dig this hole in my backyard, or, as my girlfriend insists, all I will find is the water main when I break it open with my shovel, and won't I please for the love of god stop wasting time and come inside and do something actually productive like the dishes.

Personally, I think this rebranding effort has a lot of potential :P

i think not that there are Tolkien regions more active than ours on NS, or many people interested in the topic, however i think i know someone who i could invite to the region.

Humblest apologies. I was just making a dumb joke. It is not an uncommon occurrence that such poor attempts at humor get lost in translation on this text-based platform. However, it would appear that I simply cannot help myself...a compulsion, perhaps :P

Saeros of doriath wrote:and if we are into this modification theme why not scandinavian mythology? midgard = middle earth

I would say discussion of a number of different mythologies would certainly fall within the purview of this region, but especially, as you say, the general family of Scandinavian/Germanic mythologies. Sadly, I have not ventured further than the Wikipedia pages on Norse mythology, so my familiarity with them is fairly limited.

(However, I might mention that I find those Wikipedia pages on the subject to be especially confusing. Whoever it was that wrote and edited them made some baffling choices when it comes to style and organization. Just a bit of a pet peeve...)

1. lol
2. i don't know much of norse mythology but Tolkien implied it in his works ex. Dagor Dagorath is actually a Viking invention with a different name, or say Aulë = Thor

If we get active enough we can create some sort of chill Rp where people just relax in e.g. Gondolin, or Tirion upon Tuna. You won't need much RP skills for it and i think it would be the most actie because of this feature

Sounds like a great idea! As it involves having people that want to be active, we also have to find these people (or at least a few to get things rolling). So a more active recruitment plan also sounds like a great idea in order to complement the RP plan.

If you really are interested to put more effort into the region, Middle Earth is able to create an official position for you (something related to RPs or to more talk/engagement in the RMB or something else). Just a heads-up, this might be a very difficult task, considering that Middle Earth is notorious for its lack of talking.

(This also applies to anyone that wants to be more involved in our region. The only prerequisite is that the receiving nation doesn't have any hidden agenda against the prosperity of Middle Earth and its community.)

Joke's aside, I don't see why not! If we start talking about Middle Earth being the middle of Earth's core then this will surely start some discussions and heated debate about the fact that we're crazy and what are we talking about. But at least it's going to be a discussion !

Dwarf and Saeros of doriath

I don't want to throw this off here, but it looks like a great segway in the conversation. So ...

Some of you know and some of you do not, but in the History of Middle Earth Books, or rather in The Book of Lost Tales part 2, "The History of Eriol or Ælfwine and the End of the Tales", there's a story that is part of the early versions of Tolkien's legendarium.

The story is about an Anglo-Saxon of the British Islands who lived around the 10th century of our times, but who was said to be a descendant of our fair Eärendil (the father of Elros and Elrond). Basically it is about him sailing westward and then somehow reaching the Straight Road (the route that left the Middle Earth's curvature through sky and space to the Blessed Realm of Valinor). His ship was granted safe passage and was able to reach Tol Eressëa (the island near Valinor but not in Valinor).

How do you feel about Tolkien's try to root his legendarium into our world by creating some sort of mythology interwined with our historic past?

With the new admin team setup sounds like they may be making changes/adding features to the game.

I have propose the following idea if folks wanna voice some support/input on it.

viewtopic.php?f=15&t=506892

Basically a means for founderless regions like Middle Earth to get a founder of sorts appointed, "Security Council proposal type could be targeted at a nation and a region at the same time, and would appoint the nation as Custodian of the region, giving it access to regional controls."
