The Gallian Armed Forces (GAF) are the military forces of the Principality of Gallia. Established in 1848, it consists of the Gallian Army, the Gallian Militia and the Gallian Navy. Since then, the Gallian Armed Forces have fought in the First Europan War and Second Europan War. Officially, Gallia practices a policy of armed neutrality and the Gallian Armed Forces' role is homeland defence.

Under the country's militia system, regular soldiers constitute a small part of the military and the rest are conscripts or volunteers. Compulsory military service applies to all male Gallian citizens, with women serving voluntarily.

History

Establishment

Gallia was formally established in the 3rd century after the end of the War of the Valkyrur, when Castle Randgriz was built and the Gallian royal family, House Randgriz, began ruling over the surrounding lands.

The Gallian Royal Army was Gallia's principal military force from the country's founding in the 3rd century until its dissolution in the 19th century, when the Empire's Imperial Army invaded the country, defeated the Royal Army and seized the capital city of Randgriz. The ruling Gallian king was forced by the Imperials to renounce his crown and rule over an autonomous region within the Empire as archduke. This gave rise to an underground nationalist movement known as the Gallian Patriots.

1848 was a year marked by political revolutions sweeping across Western Europa, and the Gallian Patriots, supported by the Archduke of Gallia in secret, openly rebelled against the Empire's authority in Gallia, fighting the Imperial Army in the Gallian War of Independence and emerged victorious.

The Gallian Patriots were formalized by the Archduke of Gallia into the Gallian Armed Forces.
