The Enlightened Imperium of New Tzen is a gargantuan, safe nation, ruled by Empress Katherine II with an iron fist, and remarkable for its parental licensing program, keen interest in outer space, and restrictive gun laws. The hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical, humorless population of 16.668 billion Tzen are ruled by a mostly-benevolent dictator, who grants the populace the freedom to live their own lives but watches carefully for anyone to slip up.

The relatively small government juggles the competing demands of Defense, Law & Order, and Industry. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Balamb. The average income tax rate is 31.6%, but much higher for the wealthy.

The frighteningly efficient Tzen economy, worth a remarkable 2,431 trillion Gils a year, is broadly diversified and led by the Uranium Mining industry, with major contributions from Arms Manufacturing, Information Technology, and Book Publishing. State-owned companies are reasonably common. Average income is an impressive 145,884 Gils, and evenly distributed, with the richest citizens earning only 2.3 times as much as the poorest.

New Tzen has designated Balamb as its capital city, Empress Katherine II has just been declared ruler of New Tzen in an international press conference, conductors wield diamond-encrusted batons to fit in with their freshly gilded surroundings, and teenagers stay out into the wee hours of the morning "stargazing". Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to a well-funded police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. New Tzen's national animal is the Chocobo, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its national religion is Church of Altana.

New Tzen is ranked 54,382nd in the world and 5th in Liberalia for Most Subsidized Industry, scoring 3,618.81 on the Gilded Widget Scale.
