Speech by Athara magarat

Ladies and gentlemen of the Isles, as you know, our incumbent Secretary of Role-Play (SoRP) Belle Ilse en Terre has been challenged to a resignation match in the Colosseum by Polar Svalbard. Our constitution mentions that "any other non-officer who was not the challenger may also run for the position in the same election; there is no limit to the amount of candidates that may run" and I, Athara Magarat, present to you as one of the alternative candidates.

I will not be filling this speech with promises but about challenges we as a region face – from the amount of RPs to collaboration threads to what is realistic climate for a nation to nukes and aircraft carriers – there is no doubt in my mind that these active challenges require active solutions. Not to boast but I definitely believe, no I am 100% sure, that I am one of the most active people in the Isles.

No RPer can get anything done alone. Here, we have a saying that "you cannot clap with a single hand". We as a region need each other. As naïve as it may sound; collaboration is the key. Newcomers need to work with Isles veterans, officers with the players and everyone with each other to make our RPs and world-building collaborative, immersive, fun and beneficial for everyone.

It is time to take action to fulfill our needs and aspirations for quality RPs and everyday problems. I can assure I will be there for that. I may come across as cumbersome and bureaucratic at times but I will also be nimble, flexible efficient and effective. But words are not enough. Hence, I bring forth my multiple dispatches aimed at connecting everyone in the Isles one or other through history. I bring forth my active involvement in the Great Argus Wars and similar historical threads that some of you may or may not know of. I bring forth the handover of full rights over animals created by me to other interested Isles members. I bring forth the Cooperative Union of which I was one of the four founding members. And I bring forth all the dispatches I have written, all the threads I have created and my presence in this region for three years as proof that I am ready to take action.

And that is why, when the time day of voting arrives, I urge you all to consider me as the SoRP who could be.

Thank you very much for your attention, ladies and gentlemen.

Speech by Dormill and Stiura

Hello, Gday, and happy whatever time it is for you whenever you read this. I am Dormill, as most of you should already be aware. 2019 has started strong with a coup in Noronica starting a soft civil war, Menna trying to revive Atnaia as a bold territory, and our favorite Aussie gracing us with memes in his most recent Fortnightly Reports.

So why are we having a challenge election for the Secretary of Roleplay?

To shorten things, Polar and a fair few other people in TWI (myself included) have felt that Belle Ilse, the current SoRP, has failed in his duties by way of being generally inactive. While I appreciate him taking over the role when it seemed like nobody else would, it is a shame nonetheless that he has made only slight progress in the execution of his duties. This lull in inactivity has actively harmed RP in TWI as there is only one active RP on-going and activity across the map is generally down. Granted a lot of this can be attributed to the start of the Spring Semester for most of us who are in college, it is still paramount that activity be restored and the SoRP given a new coat of paint as it were to facilitate new activity.

So the most important thing I have to say here are the plans I have for the Office of Roleplay, they are as follows:

1. Reorganization of the Dispatches and Factbooks relevant to Roleplay

It has always bugged me that there are several dispatches that are relevant to roleplaying that have gone unedited for a long while. While I do not blame people like Oste or Polar who are dealing with their own lives, these dispatches must be updated in a timely manner, and this duty should be carried out by the SoRP. My plans to do this is to request these dispatches from whoever currently owns them and post them as part of the SoRP nation. After that, I intend to clean these up and update them to the most recent events and RPs. I am also going to implement a Google Form on the Active RPs Dispatch that would allow people who are launching new threads or RPs to send all relevant information to the SoRP so the dispatch can be updated. I also intend to update the League and International District threads to better facilitate activity between the various segments of the International District aside the League.

2. Promotion of new RPs, Collaboration Threads, and Dispatches

I feel like that the SoRP has a duty to promote new RPs, Threads, and Dispatches alongside the OP of any of the three. Considering the rules of TWI prevent spamming new threads on the RMB (which is a useful rule), it would be nice if the SoRP took it to promote new stuff in TWI. Both the SoI and Ainslie have done good work in promoting some new things but the SoRP needs to do something themselves. My method would involve encouraging people who make a new dispatch (or update it in a meaningful way) or thread or RP to telegram the Office with their new thing. The SoRP then, on a timely basis, posts about it in an update of their own, promoting the new idea to TWI. This ties in with my prior idea of using a Google Form to gather data on these things.

3. Tutorials and Mentors

Over the past few months, it has come to the attention of most of TWI that there are plenty of inexperienced players coming in and having no general clue what to do when it comes to RPing in TWI. Now I have already done work in this regard with the Government Tutorial Dispatch, and Corindia has graced all of NS with his Line-Art Tutorial, so there are people who can do these tutorials and there are many more who are willing to help people. These being said, not enough has been done to promote these, which should be a job of the SoRP. The main dispatch of the Office of Roleplay should have links to existing tutorials in TWI and there should also be a list of the best possible mentors in TWI in a given field (such as Miklania in military, Ostehaar in nuclear research and intelligence agencies, and so on).

Hello TWI, I come before you today as I have challenged Belle Ilse En Terre for the position of SoRP. This is due to the fact that from what I've seen and heard he has been a bit too inactive in the SoRP position. Even with this though I commend him for stepping into the role, as we have seen it is a rough one to hold.

Personally I believe that I may be the best candidate for this position. I have experience, experience having served in this role twice and for over a year as the region's president. While I have been on hiatus from the regional government for a year, I believe now is a good time to get back on the horse and continue to do what I can for the region. Furthermore I'm friendly and welcoming, which I feel is needed for what I feel the SoRP should be focusing on, getting new players acclimated to the region.

Yes, that right there is my main concern. If I am elected to the role I think my priority concern will be making sure it is easier for new players to get acclimated to the standards this region sets. Whether this is helping with RPs, helping with factbooks, sending them to a knowledgeable member for help on a topic, etc. I think that sometimes you just need a helping hand.

Along with that, I will be looking to expand the SoRP office. I feel as though assistants have been underused and I will be looking for people to make the burden of the SoRP office something that can be shared and won't burn people out. Such assistants may be mentors, activity monitors, graphic designers, etc.

Of course there are elements of what previous SoRPs have done that I would like to continue or renew, but I still find that my biggest concern will be to make sure that everyone has the best experience and time RPing in TWI.

I just have to wrap up this storyline I'm doing and Enchanta will be back to normal. I think I'm staying out of international affairs for a while. Menna Shuli, I'm still sorry for taking away my offer.

I'm not actually offended. I was trying to do two major things with my response:

1) Teach you about the reality of foreign relations and public perception,

2) Set up some angst between Enchanta and MS.

As far as I can see it, you want to be playing a "good guy" nation. That's fine. But you have to realize that one person's good guy is another person's villain. MS is pretty diametrically opposed to your national values, I think. It's a bit hard to tell with your current factbooks, but the fact that you have one specifically for child abuse laws and one called "Holiday Homes for Refugees" suggests to me that you want a nation focused on social justice. That isn't MS, and trying to cater to everyone is going to get you nowhere. Having rivals and enemies is one of the most fun things in RP anyways.

Don't pull out of international affairs. What you need instead is a clear foreign policy that you pursue. For example, MS's foreign policy is centered around drawing in FDI (foreign direct investment) and drawing in tourism, more or less successfully depending on circumstance.

The Gaya - Overview

The Gaya (English: The Gah-Yah And Wardhana: गया) known formally as the The Commonwealth Of The Gaya (Wardhana: गयाचे राष्ट्रमंडल) is a sovereign nation whose territory comprises of the southwest corner of Argus.

The Gaya began as an ancient civilization on the banks of the Gurū (Known As The Gaya) River where the ancient cities of Wardha (The Capital) and Dusarā lay upon. The Gaya considers itself a civilization state, belonging to an ancient 4,000 year old political continuum of several Hindu & Jain Dynasties with a dominant culture related to but distinct from other ancient Dravidian polities. Although politically Hindu with a mostly Hindu and Jain populace, the nation is overwhelmingly influenced by Buddhist cultural norms. Tea bars, usually attached to local temples exist as the primary means of socializing, while virtually all primary and secondary schools are run by various Hindu orders.

Samrāṭa (Cosmic Emperor) Sarvāta Mahāna IX of House Śāhī is the current Samrāṭa of The Gaya, the Mahamantri of Kodamba, Maharani of Chalukyanadu & Rashtrakutanadu, the acting Incarnation of Rudra Manifestation of Lord Shiva, and is the acting head of the Wise Ocean House of the Dōnaśē Dynasty, assuming his throne on March 5th, 2015. The country is a Commonwealth, largely dominated by a political coalition between the Hindu Nationalist and Center Right Parties. In accordance with its Samrāṭa the government divides power amongst the Monarchy, The Ēkatrita Legislature (Auspicious Imperial Legislature), and the Imperial Tribune. Power is further devolved to the five Prāntyas (Historical Kingdoms Or Dominions) and the twenty Janapadas (People's Dominions)

The Gaya has a developing economy with robust manufacturing and financial sectors employing large sectors of the populace, and occupying a central position in Gaya political and cultural life. With an HDI of 0.912 and life expectancy at 80 years, Gaya citizens enjoy a relatively high quality of living depite having some of the lowest incomes. It has often been described as the "Bastion of the East," and has been called the "Oriental Miracle," as it is one of the only great states to not only be prospering, but enjoying a high living standard. The Commonwealth, being a nation of a 20 million, has a booming manufacturing, industrial, and service based sectors.
