I am thinking about changing my government into an dictatorship instead of an absolute monarchy. Same thing but different government.

I thought about changing Nhoor's government once; it blew up in their faces.

The Tsunterlands wrote:IIRC I think I had a similar system when i first created the Tsunterlands. The issue is I feel it removes the executive too far from the populace. As fun it would be to really lean into the naval language for the sake of maintaining clarity i'm going to stick to use familiar terminology like president over admiral.

Here's what i'm thinking.
- President is directly elected by the people (french-style run off elections).
- A seven-person council is nominated with specific policy portfolios (3 nominated by the lower house of Parliament, 3 by the upper house, 1 directly elected by the Special Maurican Voting District). The President can veto these appointments but cannot nominate their own. (There would also be a wider cabinet, composed of non-parliamentarians appointed by the President)
- The President needs the support of a majority of 4 on the council in order to pass Presidential Decrees.
- With a majority of 5, the council can cause a vote of confidence in the president, triggering a national election.

I'm pretty happy with this. Now i just need to rewrite a lot of my factbooks :(

Does the RHR story need to be rewritten too? lol

Anything's OK as long as it's realistic and not godmodding, tbh.

Nah, the main thing affected is that political maneuverings in response to the scandal led to parliament being dissolved and I can write around that.

Pretty important news post regarding the current state of Tsunter politics.

Looks a lot like the previous coalition in Takiv's parliament. New one coming in soon

Hey, I could use some opinions from TWI, just feels a bit silly asking. I'm not sure I'm comfortable with keeping my capital city named "The Capitol". I'm considering changing it because I just feel it lacks originality and will be associated with hunger games a lot lmao. I don't think the latter is necessarily bad, because I kind of want to portray that aesthetic and I like the authoritative sound of "The Capitol", but yeah, just fishing for some opinions. Here are my 2 options I'm considering right now:

Basically, keeping the status quo as:

Capital City Name: The Capitol
Legislature: The Lansrat
Cabinet: Presidential Synod

or

Capital City Name: Jacinto (potentially something else, haven't decided)
Legislature: The Capitol
Cabinet: Presidential Lansrat

The only thing is that if I change it, I would have to change up some of my history tbh. I also just suck with naming and overthink it lol.

I am not familiar with the hunger games, but The Capitol sounds indeed too much like any other capitol or capital; unless the city was constructed to harbour the country's parliament, it is likely that it should be named after a person or some geographical feature. Sārruc's meaning has not officially been determined but -rruc in Nhoor generally means 'castle' or 'fortress'.

To be noted that the parliament of Nhoor is often referred to as 'Paliament' (parlament in Nhoor) and although it is informally called 'The Floor' (Conast in Nhoor), there is no official name for the executive power of Nhoor. Nhoor also has no official designation of the executive power, which is simply called the Council of Ministers (in its Nhoor equivalent).

To change anything quickly: copy the text of your factbook into a notepad, replace the words you want to replace by their new names, and upload your corrected text into your NS factbook.

Hey, thanks so much for the input! I really appreciate that. It was more of a historical change I will have to make. In the far past, The Capitol started out as a city-state. Later, it was led by a King Amestrris, who conquered the surrounding city-states under one banner, Amestrris, named after the king. Basically, keeping it named "The Capitol" was in the spirit of sounding centralized and authoritative. But I really agree with everything you're saying, and I just have this lame feeling about keeping it "The Capitol" lol. I just really like my legislature being called the Lansrat, and I want to remain unicameral, but The Capitol seems far more appropriate for a legislature name.

In terms of this historical problems, I'm thinking I could "have my cake and eat it too" lol. I could say that the city-state of The Capitol was established and eventually led by King Amestrris, who went on to conquer all other city-states around it. The nation was then called Amestrris, after the king, and The Capitol remained the seat of the government and the capital city. However, we do already have a Second Civil War that occurs right after (and it catalyzed by) the Imperial War.

I'm thinking that after the defeat of the authoritarian government by the rebels after the Second Civil War, The Capitol was renamed to Jacinto to diminish its authoritative, centralized theme. However, the new democratic legislature formed was named The Capitol, to preserve history and keep its function. Kind of reflects a shift towards democracy and decentralization, while retaining the name "The Capitol" for the legislature maintains continuity and historical significance.

Does TWI have something similar to the Bermuda Triangle in term of reputation? Like an area of water that became the capital of sunk and lost ship

It can be a point of interest for dispatches

It’s called the Balniki EEZ

TWI is on the opposite side of the Bermuda Triangle. If you've ever seen Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, the method they use to get into Davy Jones' locker is how you get to TWI from inside the Bermuda triangle

I kind of wish there was a place to post government memorandums/ policy briefs. The twitter thread requires posts to be short and punchy whilst i like to make my news posts to be comprehensive and both require a degree of editorialising and sensationalism but there's nowhere for posts (maybe three or four paragraphs at most) which are literally just the government reported on an emerging situation or laying out its policy options or explaining what policies its implementing are.

I'd rather not make such posts in dispatches where they are likely to be forgotten. I recognise that is a pretty niche problem so i doubt there will be much support or interest in setting up a new dedicated thread.

The obvious solution to me would be to put these posts in the news thread but that runs into all sorts of problems around what knowledge is ICly available to the public and what is being past around internally within a government.

I'd be interested to hear other people's opinions on this, although like i said, i suspect this is something that most people aren't that bothered by.

Style the post as a memorandum or white paper, add an IC "secret" marking to it, put an OOC note at the bottom saying that it's not public, and post it in news. In the "proper" RP threads, I've done similar things -- private meetings, internal email, secure military transmissions -- and I've seen other people do that as well.

So long as it's clear that the information isn't public, I think people will be fine with it.

But I can also see where a government post would also be helpful, I mean we have one for common citizens, why not one for government dispatches?

Wellsia wrote: But I can also see where a government post would also be helpful, I mean we have one for common citizens, why not one for government dispatches?

This would be my preference but i don't know how much a thread like that would be used.

Probably as much as the citizen one, but it would allow unofficial responses to events when you don’t have time to write a full news story. If you haven’t yet put it
Discord brainstorm and see how the response is.

The Tsunterlands wrote:This would be my preference but i don't know how much a thread like that would be used.

Citizen one doesn't get used all that much either

Takiv wrote:Citizen one doesn't get used all that much either

I think the difference is the citizens thread generally had quite high-quality posts on it, whereas the sort of posts i'm imagining would be a few paragraphs at most.

Wishing a happy Europe Day and a pleasant ascension to those concerned ^_^
