October 30, 2040

Marcus shuffled through the small pile documents given to him regarding flight N-AL92. Ever since the incident, they have been showing up on his desk, but the flow of information was very light, and very vague.

The Carolinians knew that the flight was carrying a few diplomats, and other lower government officials, apparently sent by the American government in an attempt to mediate tensions between the United States, Carolina, and Columbia (Jakkonia). Although Marcus wasn't aware that diplomats were being sent, the Carolinian department of Foreign Affairs did approve the meeting, with plans to reopen the American embassy and consulates.

According to the black box information, the plane lost its first engine once they were 20 nautical miles from the border, and lost their second engine only 4 minutes later. Both spauntaneously exploded, which was a red flag to Marcus. The fires caused by explosions melted some internals required to control the plane's aerlions, making it incredibly hard to turn the plane.

American and Carolinian investigators were collaborating as they tried to figure out the cause behind the crash, but due to the estranged relationship between the two countries, it came with endless difficulties. The Americans were incredibly slow and secretive when it came to sharing the plane's data whilst it was in American airspace. The investigators claim it was due to national security reasons. Many things were unclear to the Carolinians, even their route. The plane was headed for Charlotte but according to the Americans, the plane had taken off from Denver and had a layover in an undisclosed airport prior to crossing the border.

Even though Carolina was officially responsible for running the investigation, as the crash did occur within her airspace, they couldn't get very far with only 90% of the plane's data and documentation. Marcus was incredibly suspicious. But would the Americans really stoop so low as to assasinate their own government officials to accomplish their goals?

Unfortunately, the answer to that question was yes.

An aide quietly opened Marcus' office door. "Mr. President. It's an emergency," he said weeirly. He looked deshoveled.

"What's going on?" Marcus asked, although he had a feeling he already knew the answer.

"The investigators say they found explosive residue on certain parts of the plane's engines. It's not for certain, but ISSAC is speculating that the Americans are going to use it as a justification for war."

Marcus sighed. For a while, he had been trying to emotionally prepare for this day. But he hadn't been focused enough on encruing allies. This was far from ideal.

Of course he knew that the claim was utter nonsense. Why would a country known for its isolation go out of its way to instigate a war with its neighbor? But the Americans didn't need a logically sound reason. They just needed any reason.

"Call the department of defense. Tell our forces on the border to prepare our defenses. I need to start making calls..." Marcus said with a no inflection in his voice. The aide didn't say a word, simply leaving the room.

The next day, the White House officially declared war on the Republic of Carolina after claiming the country had assasinated the diplomats onboard flight N-AL92 via planting explosives within the plane's turbine engines.

ALBANY | COMMONWEALTH STATE OF NEW YORK | REPUBLIC OF COLUMBIA

The news of war between the Junta and Carolina would hit Columbia like a ton of bricks. Immediately the nation was thrown into a panic, many thinking that it was only a matter of time before war struck between Columbia and the American Junta as well. Times were tense, and the Junta's antics on their border were certainty not making things easier. President Dunleavy within hours of the declaration being announced would shut down the airspace over the border, military units scrambling to ensure that they had defensive and offensive capabilities ready as soon as possible to ensure they weren't pushed past the border. The House of Representatives and the Senate both held an emergency joint session with the attendance of the President, the session was televised and revealed this speech that would begin the next phase of Columbia's existence.

Senate Parliamentarian Robert Keere: "Now Welcoming to the Stand, the President of the Republic, President Ethan Dunleavy."

The applause of the room was massive, yet tension covered the room. Everyone in it was silent once the President took the stand, eager to hear what he had to say. With this in mind the President spoke.

"Thank You Mr. Keere..."

He nodded to the Parliamentarian who sat down, behind Dunleavy sat his Vice President, Blumhouse, as well as the House Speaker and the Senate Majority Leader, a showing of a truly united government. He took a deep breath, beginning his speech right after.

"Today is a day that will live in Infamy. These were the words spoken by the great Franklin Delano Roosevelt, one of the greatest presidents of the former United States of America. At the time it had been only a day after the horrific attacks on Pearl Harbor in Hawaii and he made the executive decision with the consent of the Legislature to declare war upon the Empire of Japan for their actions. Now, I know many of you in this room are currently wondering if we are living in another day of infamy... a day where a foreign power does something egregious to the point of no return. Well today we do indeed live in another day of infamy. A day where our neighbors in the Junta would kill their own diplomats, their own people, simply to create a fictitious reason to declare war upon our friends and allies. It is clear that the Junta is a rogue actor, one that is quickly losing its remaining power and any remaining sympathies it might've held before. It is clear that the Junta can no longer be dealt with utilizing traditional means of diplomatic action. Now is the time for action, now is the time to defend our allies."

He stopped for a moment.

"It is why it is here that I officially ask this Congress to vote on a Declaration of War against the American Junta so that we may come to the defense of our allies and save this continent from tyranny."

With that he nodded to the Parliamentarian, who stood back up and walked back to the stand, the President standing next to him as the Parliamentarian shuffled his papers before speaking.

Senate Parliamentarian Robert Keere: "Now on the Floor, the Congressional Authorization for a Declaration of War against the American State. Do I hear a motion to vote?"

"Aye" The single aye was noted by Keere.

"Is there a Second?"

"Aye"

The Second Aye was heard thus the vote began. These were the results:

It was a clear majority, it seemed now that Columbia was at war. President Dunleavy would sign the declaration before the nation, the room breaking into applause. Meanwhile on the border military forces were gearing up, ready for a fight. Within an hour of the declaration Martial Law was declared in the Border counties, the Columbian Air Force also were nearly ready to begin bombing raids across the border on Military Instillations. It was clear the country was ready to fight, and ready to win.

The Eastern Spat - November 1st, 2040 - San Francisco, Capital of the Pacific Federation

Milo Harris, President of the Pacific Federation and controversial leader of the Liberal-Progressives, was asleep when he got the call. He turned, sighing loudly, and picked up his phone to answer; his head still mired in half-remembered dreams.

The president was well-known for being able to switch between being a polite gentleman and an absolute firebrand in public at the flick of a switch. There was one specific time at which he was extremely cranky, no matter the circumstance, though; getting calls at 4 in the morning, when he had told the office specifically not to call him between midnight and 6:30am unless the world was on fire.

“…is the goddamn world on fire? Otherwise, I’m not in the mood right now.”

The voice of an aide he didn’t recognise came over the phone.

“It depends on whether you consider all-out war on the East Coast a blazing-terrestrial incident, President Harris.”

Milo sighed again, rubbing his eyes. Given the recent spike in tensions, he was pretty sure he knew what this was going to be about.
“Smug one, aren’t you…go on.”

“The Caroline Republic and the United States of America have officially entered a state of war; the United States has accused them of initiating the recent plane crash that you’ve probably heard about already.”

“Yep. Heard that the Americans totally sabotaged it and tried to blame it on the Carolina’s.”

“We have evidence to support that theory, yes. The Republic of Columbia has pledged their support to the Carolina’s. Along with that, Dunleavy’s asked us for a meeting.”

Several thousands of thoughts ran through Milo’s head in the subsequent 10 seconds before he spoke. Relations between the Americans and Pacifics were, well, absolutely horrific, and both knew very well that if the Eastern States fell, the Pacifics were next on the Junta’s reclamation list.
It was pretty much a no-brainier for Milo to do what he did next.

“Brilliant. Call an emergency meeting of Congress for later today, get the Department of Defence completely ready for any shït the Americans might try to pull, and tell Dunleavy and Osborne that we would be absolutely willing to send aid and support at the moment, and they’re free to either come here or just call about a meeting to set up more involvement. I am going back to bed, now.”

“Got it, sir.”

Dear [insert Foreign Affairs Minister/Secretary] of [insert nation],

It is with great concern that Patagonia continues to bear witness to the deteriorating state of peace and stability on the North American continent. It was not too long ago that the United States fractured itself along regional and socio-economic lines due to the pressures of war and a faltering economy and it would a shame for war to once again ravage these lands. For this, His Serenity the Doge, Apollon Theopoulos, has invited your nation's leader for mediation talks in the majestic halls of the Palazzo San Marco.

All necessary precautions will be taken to ensure the safety of President Osborne, Dunlevy and Jones over the course of the negotiations. Each leader will be allocated 2 Patagonian Secret Service agents for their personal protection and each leader has permission to bring an accompanying security detail of 5. No weapons will allowed within 1 kilometer of the palace barring those of Patagonian security forces.

We hope to see you all here for a fruitfull discussion and to at least unwind the Patagonian way through food and drink.

- Antonios Kapodistrias,
Patagonian Minister of Foreign Affairs

RESPONSE FROM THE COLUMBIAN FOREIGN MINISTRY

The President of the Republic would be delighted to appear in Oshovia for potential peace talks between ourselves, our allies in Carolina, and the Junta. The Republic is committed to a message of peace and prosperity for all around the world. However, we will say that we will be expecting a serious and concerted effort on the side of the Junta and we are dissapointed and frankly angered by the current trajectory of the Junta. Columbia is committed to protecting its allies and ensuring that threats such as the Junta are kept at bay and we hope that Patagonia shares in our belief that the only way to reach peace is if the Junta accepts total blame. Thank You and we hope for a productive meeting.

RESPONSE FROM THE COLUMBIAN FOREIGN MINISTRY

We are equally concerned with the antics of the Junta. While we are pursuing a potential peace in Oshovia, we are very unsure of the potential fruits of this effort and we believe that we must be ready for an all out conflict. It can be noted that the Republic has already declared war against the Junta and we intend to treat them as a hostile entity to the interests of our nation until proven otherwise. We are willing to hold talks between ourselves, Carolina, and the Pacific Republic in an attempt to keep the Junta at bay and ensure peace and prosperity on our continent. We are also always ready to accept any aid the Pacific is willing to give to us to aid in defending the democracies east of the Mississippi from incursion. We hope to hear back soon on the prospects for a meeting between us and we hope that the Pacific States continues to aid us in our fight for freedom across North America.

LET THE BOMBS FALL
EAST SAINT LOUIS | STATE OF ILLINOIS | REPUBLIC OF COLUMBIA

Sirens went off across the city, only mere hours after the declaration of war American Missiles had begun to fire at the city, Military forces tried their best and managed to shoot many of them down but of course some would make it through. The bright orange explosions would be the sight many would awaken to seeing around them in the dead of night, Governor Osborne of Illinois ordering an immediate evacuation of the city in the onslaught. Though even with this thousands would die that night, allowing Junta forces to begin trying to push at the border during the ensuing chaos. This would be the news that would greet President Dunleavy in the immediate few hours after the war was initiated. It seemed America was not going to play clean in this conflict, beginning with an onslaught of missile fire at a civilian target.

"Sir.. how are we going to respond?" Asked Secretary of Defense Johnson, the man sitting with the President in the Bunker installed underneath the Presidential Estate, the two of them watching as the city glew Orange with carnage.

Dunleavy looked to Johnson, his face stoic as he thought, however after about a minute of silence he spoke.

"We're at war aren't we? Let's fire back."

Johnson would smirk at this, taking his confirmation and calling someone over the phone.

"Activate Legionnaire." He hung up, looking back at the screen as it seemed the missile barrages finally were starting to come to an end. However, the effects of the short barrage would be monumental, leaving swaths of the city entirely wartorn and decrepit as it seems thousands died in the carnage of missile fire. Though with a counterattack in mind the Republic would move forward, though of course the attack on ESL would make many question the war and cause some economic issues for the time being.

PROJECT LEGIONNAIRE
FORT DODGE | IOWA REGION | JUNTA TERRITORY

After the fall of much of the Eastern Bases to the forces of Columbia and Carolina, Fort Dodge had become a much more integral part of the American defensive system than ever before. Originally being a medium sized support and reserve base in Northern Iowa, now it was a premiere base for the entire region and was seen as one of the largest bases in the country, a perfect target for enemy targets. This is why the base has a massive anti-missile/anti-air defense system installed to ward off intruders.

"Sir.. the Cameras are down."

This was the first line spoken to a Junta Commander overseeing the nighttime operations of the base. He was well aware that war had been declared against his country and he was gonna defend his nation to the end. This meant ensuring that Dodge was up and ready for conflict as he expected Columbian air raids to target them quite heavily in due time. Though what he did not expect was that literally only hours after the war would break out his cameras would break down like this.

"Well get them back online then!" he said, his voice panicked as he spoke to the man before him.

"We-We're trying sir.. it seems they've been tampered with.."

As soon as that was said his eyes went wide and as if it were meant to be the second he realized what was going on an explosion was heard outside. He and the men in the room looked at one another before rushing outside, seeing a massive orange cloud rise up in the sky. This would be followed by another explosion to their left, throwing the commander off his feet.

"WHAT IN THE WORLD IS GOING ON HERE?!" He yelled at, a technician spotting him and running up to him as his men helped him back up. Another explosion hit nearby causing everyone to start running, though once they found cover the technician began to explain.

"Our network was taken out... we don't know how or why.. it just went down and right after we started getting explosions left and right..."

"Those damn Columbians..." He said, facepalming. He knew why Dodge was the first target in the war, they held the largest airfield in Iowa for the Junta and it was close to the Columbian Border, a vital link for Western Junta forces to land and be closer to the frontline in the event of war. All the sudden another explosion went off, this time only a few feet away, it caused the barrier to collapse and threw the technician at a wall, killing him instantly, the commander fell to the floor. He looked up, his face bloodied and his eyes barely being able to stay open as the explosions picked up more and more.

By the end almost the entirety of Fort Dodge had been destroyed. This was Project Legionnaire at work. Legionnaire was a high tech system created by Blackstone and the Columbian Intelligence Service to go on the offensive against foreign entities should they prove a threat against Columbia. The Junta happened to be its first ever target. As soon as the network for Fort Dodges security systems and anti-air defenses were offline the Columbians would start launching precision rockets at the base, the intention being to destroy the entire thing, making it inoperable. Along with this comes possibly billions worth of equipment and military vehicles and gear destroyed in the ensuing carnage. Not even the barracks on the base were left alone as sleeping soldiers were killed instantly by rockets landing right on top of their barracks.

The same fate was met by an Army Reserve Base much closer to the Border with Columbia outside the city of Davenport, the chaos there allowing for Columbian soldiers to produce a counter push to the Junta push in East Saint Louis. Though these actions only would work to escalate the conflict, the Americans now feeling the wrath of a Columbia thirsty for blood and the Columbians now experiencing the willingness of America to commit mass atrocities to return itself to the global kingmaker it once was. However, with Legionnaire it seems that the Columbians would be able to demolish the Junta's war preparedness before it even got off the ground.

    | 6:06 AM |

Word spread like haywire about the attacks on the Borders in the North. And some wondered if Derwan would attack soon.

Though their thoughts would soon be answered, at around 6 AM artillery bombardment struck the border town of Xingxingxiazhen killing and injuring many.

A Division led by Major General Yu Huo of the 127th Division that consists of. . .
- 2 Infantry Brigade (10,000 troops)
- 2 Motorized Battalions (2,000 troops, 50 trucks)
- 2 IFV Battalions (2,000 troops, 50 IFV’s)
- 1 Armored Company (20 Main Battle Tanks, 200 troops)
- 1 Engineer Company (200 troops)
- 1 Logistics Company (200 troops, 4 trucks)
- 1 Medical Company (200 troops, 4 trucks)
- 1 Reconnaissance Company (200 troops)
- 1 Radio Company (200 troops)

The 127th Division under Yu Huo will launch an attack against the Turkic Union, hoping to earn a medal for her bravery against the menacing horde of Turkic Barbarians that come from the East. The first shots are fired from the MBT tanks of the 127th Division against the Turkic Border Units. The screams of war by the Chinese can be heard as they try and burst their way through and into Turkic Union.

The desert was hot and the sand was boiling, its orange color will turn a deep crimson red by the end of the day.

The Blood Flows

The Turkic forces did not expect the Chinese sudden attack, with their warscreams the RoC forces smashed against a unprepared first line as it quickly began to break, most of the defenders started to retreat as they couldn't opposed the push and won't take the risk of being flanked and surrounded.

As this was occurring, local commanders receive massive amount of reports about the unexpected Chinese attack, and those commanders passed the notice to their higher ups, in a few minutes Turkic High Command became aware of the attack and for most of them it betrayed their previous thoughts about the Chinese, as they now showed that they got the balls to attack but the suprise ended in that for the attack was not inconceivable, years of strategy and planning dedicated to face the PRC and now its successor the RoC, the high command quickly became aware of how bold were the Chinese actions probably derived from their stupidity and fractured internal interest, so they choose to leave this matter to the hands of the protector general assigned to Sinkiang.

Meanwhile in the frontier, crossing the deserts of Sinkiang took some tool on the invader, the desert was merciless and more to those not fully prepared, the Turks already redeployed themselves at the much more fortified second line, with the promise of reinforcements from the field marshal himself that the 27th mechanised division and the 5th 68th and 88th tank corp were to be deployed in their aid. As soon as the first IFV appeared on the horizon the cammofluge modern anti armour missiles opened fire on the enemy advance and a rain of bullets quickly followed up from the multiple entrenched positions, the Chinese were now caught in a ambush and their mistakes were going to be pay with blood, rivers of blood.

ORTHODOXY, AUTOCRACY, AND NATIONALITY

THE TSARDOM OF RUSSIA'S (RE)ESTABLISHMENT

"So know, pious king, that all the Christian kingdoms came to an end and came together in a single kingdom of yours, two Romes have fallen, the third stands, and there will be no fourth. No one shall replace your Christian Tsardom." ~ Philotheus to Tsar Ivan IV, 1492

"The time is now for a new beginning in Russia. We have moved on from the era of unipolar American world dominance. NATO and the EU are shattered. While Russia may have gone through internal struggles, we have emerged again as a strong and united nation. Without America's obstacles, Russia's future is nothing but bright. Long live Third Rome!" ~ Tsar Fyodor IV, 2037

A brief history
The world had underwent a global dark age. Perhaps the tipping point towards global political turmoil and economic collapse was Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022 - dubbed a "Special Military Operation." Russia had failed to capture Ukraine, and American intervention set Russia for inevitable defeat. The assassination of Vladimir Putin and anti-Kremlin opposition, combined with the effects of total war, had pushed Russia to anarchy. Ethnic separatists and surrounding powers had taken advantage of the situation.

A charismatic young leader, by the name of Fyodor, had lead a movement of national revival. Motivated by Slavophilia, Orthodoxy, and anti-western sentiment, Fyodor emerged victorious and lead a march on Moscow in November 4, 2033 - on national unity day. This ended an era what was known as the "2nd Time of Troubles" in Russia. He re-established a strong, central government over Russia and reconquered some breakaway territories. Fyodor declared himself as the new Tsar of Russia under the Radoslav dynasty, marrying a descendant of the Romanovs for legitimacy.

Autocracy and Nationality
"The Russians are a proud people, yet out potential has been held down by a tyrannical regime for centuries. Whether it be the Tsars or Soviets, Putin or Fyodor, the Russian people have been kept down and oppressed by its state. It has seen us as nothing more than cattle for establishing a tyrannical police state. They do not care for the Russian people or our heritage. They persecute our European identity and place us under the yoke of eastern despotism." ~ Oleg Morozov, 2nd Prime Minister of the Russian Republic

The recent events of Russia proves the idea that history repeats itself. With that having Russia on the brink of collapse, only to emerge again with a stronger government. The new Tsardom of Russia is an extremely authoritarian, autocratic, and conservative regime - much more so than the previous Russian Federation. The hope for Russia being a liberal, democratic, and open society is bleak. The Tsar has revived the ideology of "Orthodoxy, Autocracy, and Nationality."

In St. Petersburg and surrounding northwestern areas, Alexei Navalny lead a coalition of "Russia for Russian" ethnonationalists and pro-Europeanist liberals to establish the Russian Republic. During the 2nd Time of Troubles, St. Petersburg became a prominent city for liberal and ethnonationalist anti-Kremlin opposition groups to migrate to. This experiment failed as the Tsardom declared war in 2034. In 2036, St. Petersburg was sacked. Many leaders of the Russian Republic were publicly executed. Thus, marking the end of Russia's experimentation with democracy for a long time to come. Navalny's whereabouts are unknown, though he is believed to be alive.

While the Russian Republic had been crushed, the sentiments of its people and resistance groups have not. Russian intelligence has gathered limited information about resistance groups planning an insurgency. The police presence and military personnel are being deployed to St. Petersburg to watch over and quell a potential uprising. Repression and censorship continues on, with political dissidents being regularly exiled to Siberia.

Pro-natal policies
Russia has underwent several demographic crisis's throughout the 20th to early 21st Century. It is the largest nation in the world, yet sparsely populated at 171 million. The Tsarist government is seeking to change this, with assistance from the Russian Orthodox Church. Examples of pro-natal policies in place include the following:

    * A total criminalization on all abortions (unless a mother's life is in danger)
    * Expansion of maternity leave and childcare
    * Progressively reduced housing costs for each new child
    * 0 Income Tax for raising 4 children
    * Various repressions on sexual freedom and pornography

Settlement of the East
Under the 2nd Time of Troubles in Russia, the Russian Far East had declined from 8 million people to roughly 6 million in 2033, as various Russians fled to more hospitable areas amidst the weak central government. The Tsarist government is seeking to reverse this trend. Its population has recovered back to roughly 7.8 million in 2040, with further population growth forecasted in the future.

Fyodor IV has started a program to settle the Far East, echoing the previous program under Vladimir Putin - albeit more aggressive. Settlers are provided with free-land and generous benefits and funding. New towns and villages are under construction, offering various facilities, restaurants, entertainment venues, museums, and etc. Mass propaganda campaigns have led on many young Russians to settle in the far-east. With posters and advertisements of a romanticized and adventurous life out east, migration waves continue to increase Russia's sparsely populated east.

The program has come under mild controversy for being expensive, with some debate in the Duma to reduce its funding and re-direct efforts towards more pressing matters.

Expansionism
"Belarus, Ukraine, and Russia have been 3 parts of the triune Rus. It is a great tragedy that our brothers of the Rus in Ukraine have abandoned Russia in the past, with the west hijacking their way into the Greater Rus and pitting Ukraine against Russia, brother against brother." ~ Tsar Fyodor IV

Russia has had an infamous reputation for expansionism. Tsar Fyodor IV has not made any comments towards expanding Russia's borders. Though it is unlikely that Russia has abandoned its expansionist sentiments. His speech regarding the "triune Russian nation" and Russian irredentism suggest imperialist ambitions. This is especially confirmed through the buildup of Russia's military and its maintenance of a 2-year conscription program for all young men of the Tsardom. Some analysts believe Russia has imperialist ambitions in Belarus and Ukraine.

It has been 173 years since Russia sold Alaska to the United States, and hopes of re-gaining it were abandoned. Though amidst the collapse of the United States, some Russians have their eyes set on annexation of an independent Alaska.

In the 2nd Time of Troubles, Mongolia capitalized on Russia's turmoil through northern expansion. Currently it possesses former Russian autonomous Republics in Siberia and occupies part of the Trans-Siberian railway. Amidst China's war with Mongolia, it is likely Russia will join in.

Currently, military personnel are being deployed to Mongolia via the Trans-Siberian railroad. Russia is preparing to launch an invasion of Mongolia and recapture its former territories.

VALUTAZIONE DELLA SITUAZIONE - PT.2
VIÑA DEL MAR | Achilleion, Alta Araucania | Patagonia-araucania
December 2040

Summer has arrived in the Southern Hemisphere along with the Holiday Season and Parliament being out of session. The Doge and his cabinet have therefore made their way north to the Dogal Summer Estate of Viña del Mar just north of picturesque Araucanian city of Achilleion. There was nothing better than the intertwining scents of vineyards and the Pacific's ocean breeze. Barring Christmas New Year's Day where the families of Patagonia's elite celebrated intimately with gift giving, feasting and drinking, the other days of the summer retreat were definitely a boy's trip for the Doge and his Cabinet. Along with the five instigators of the November Coup, Apollo, Tony, Alex, Ugo and Petro were joined by the Prime Minister and other Cabinet Ministers. In between bouts of alcohol and cannabis intoxication, the most powerful men in Patagonia did in fact talk business.

Sea fishing trips on the Dogal Yacht were dominated by the ongoing happenings of the world. The Patagonian Expeditionary Force in Tsone (Roedthaffen) was stuck in a stalemate. While the South has been liberated from the clutches of the militant atheists, the enemy wasn't budging beyond the Jurong-Meiyao Line. Despite pressure from the Tsonese Provisional Government, the Patagonian Pacific Fleet was frothing at the mouth to increase naval bombardments on the central coastal cities, including the capital of Niantian, in order to open a second front. For that, Petros has been mostly sober this trip in order to not accidentally give the order while in the middle of an alcohol binge.

There was also the matter of coaxing an ceasefire between the American successor states. The past two months have seen heavy bombardment along the Mississippi. Though the frontline hasn't changed, the American Midwest and the Eastern Appalachians are experiencing the worst refugee crisis ever to hit the continent with many civilians dead, injured or displaced. President Dunlevy of Columbia (Jakkonia) and President Jones of America have accepted their invitations for the Oshovia Peace Talks, though the Doge is still waiting for responses from President Osborne of the New united carolinas and President Harris of Pacifica (Ryanius) before making preparations to host the foreign dignitaries. While actually achieving peace in the former USA seem bleak, the Doge and his guests could at least look forward to great food and plentiful drink.

Alone in his garden, the Doge pondered the goings of the East where China (The eastern radiance) and Beliya Rossiya have slowly been reuniting their splintered states while the West remains divided and unable to keep the East's growing power in check. Patagonia felt powerless in this regard due to its policy of non-interventionism outside the confines of South America. It was a shame that the people of Asia, who have had a taste for sovereignty over the past two decades have began to fall back under the Russian and Chinese yolks. While he will be diplomatically occupied with the Americans for the time being, the need for a western alliance was dire and could possibly be up to the Doge to forge it.

As the weeks went by, the situation on Lake Michigan grew tense. Mordusian naval power reigned supreme, but it had become more and more difficult to keep the effects of war off of the lake without igniting conflict. The sight of American missiles and rockets inbound to Chicago were regular occurrences, as were Columbian missiles inbound to targets in Wisconsin. A number of American warship patrols drifted too closely to Mordusian shores, and Columbian and American ships fighting in the waters around Milwaukee and Chicago had effectively turned the lower half of the Lake into a war-zone. The economic effects were sizable. Fewer and fewer mariners, fishermen, and merchants dared to continue their work for fear of being shot at, sunk, captured, or caught between two warring parties. Western Mordusville was losing money and livelihoods, and losing it fast. Despite the warnings of the Mordusian government to keep the war off the Lakes, one of them was turning into a battlefield. The situation was unattainable, and everyone knew it. A pure neutrality policy couldn’t be continued.

————————————

WHEREAS the nation of America has deemed insignificant the requests of Mordusville to keep the Lakes pure of war, has carelessly maintained its navy and allowed it to threaten our shores, has disrupted the nation’s greatest commerce with no shred of remorse or compensation, and the duty of this government is to tolerate no injustice towards its people;

As president, I believe it only just to deprive America of the products of our industry, namely oil, to bring to bear the consequences of harming this country, purposefully or otherwise.

On January 1, 2041, the standing Mordusian-American Supply of Oil trade agreement will be considered and shall remain completely null. No vessels or entity shall hereafter benefit from the conditions of this agreement through the trade of petroleum, gas, or fuel with American entities, and the profit that results. Enforcement will begin immediately.

THE FIRE BURNS HOT
ILLINOIS-WISCONSIN BORDER | UPPER MIDWEST | NORTH AMERICA

Fire and Fury, this would be what could explain the current state of conflict between Columbia and the Junta. Columbia has made its efforts clear in evacuating people eastward, now the city of East Saint Louis was more a massive military playground over anything else. Meanwhile though the City of Chicago was a much more difficult situation. The Federal and State Governments both have been hesitant to move towards evacuations, especially as missile defense systems around Chicago are much more high tech and have successfully managed to shoot down incoming missiles towards the city thus far. However, the fear becomes how long does this last.

It seems Columbia did not want to wait and find out though as in the early hours of December 5th 2040 parts of the Northern Suburbs were sent mandatory evacuation orders, the Columbian Military ushering people southward towards safer lands for the time being. Though the evacuation was not because missiles were being fired or anything to that degree, it was because of what was about to happen.

DECEMBER 6TH 2040 --- 11:43:29 PM

BOOM
KENOSHA | WISCONSIN | JUNTA TERRITORY

The orange light of an explosion rose up over the city of Kenosha, Wisconsin, a city that only was a few miles from the border with Columbia. What had happened? A lone Columbian Missile fired from a missile cruiser sitting in Lake Michigan landed in the city, killing hundreds and injuring thousands more as it landed straight on top of the Kenosha Regional Airport on the far end of the city. Columbian Naval Forces in Lake Michigan would also begin a much stronger campaign against the Americans, understanding that control over Lake Michigan gave them a huge advantage in the relatively small Wisconsin front.

The next day media outlets across the continent had already picked up the story, Columbian Missiles now targeting a primarily civilian used airport though it was being used to bring in supplies to the front. In response the Junta would increase air power in the region, going after Columbian military targets near and around the city of Chicago in an air harassment campaign. Columbian Naval Assets though would continue to push against the American forces on the lake.

Recent moves from the neutral Mordusville would also be taken into consideration as their recent nullification of their agreement with America was met with praise by President Dunleavy who called it a step in the right direction. Columbian assets though have made it clear to try and avoid the waters of Mordusville in the conflict, wanting to draw Mordusville closer to the Columbian side of the conflict over that of the Americans.

Overall the pushes on the northern front of the war have indeed picked up as Columbian and American forces begin to wage conflict in the area. General William Atwood was also appointed to lead land pushes into Wisconsin, though he has been met with tough resistance from Junta forces in the area. Military Advisors to the general have made particular focus on the western end of the border though as it is less defended and less populated, allowing forces to move through quickly and easily to surround and secure the territory for the Republic's interests. Regardless though even with that air power from the Junta has been very successful in keeping the Columbians at bay, most of the Columbian air force being used to mop up American forces on the nations western flank with the Junta. The State of the war right now? Slow and Fiery.

REINVIGORATION OF TURKIC IDEALS

The Union and its people are under threat, the old powers awaken once again from their ruins, their desire for power remain untamed, no matter how many crisis they face or how screwed the situation maybe, history is repeating itself, old powers rise to be dominant again, to claim their so called “lands” but there is one advantage to this, it is predictable and the Union learn from the past, predicted this situation and for more that 10 years has prepared for this. Chinese imperialism will never end, unfortunately their nationalism won’t fracture under any circumstance and so their aggression keep threatening us, no matter who sits in China, be a emperor, a dictator or a president it is their nature to destroy and their people will never know peace, as their are so bussy killing their neighboors or themselves, the war has done nothing but reaffirm Turkic opinions and fears about them but the Union won’t remain paralyzed with fear, it will strike, make them bleed so much that even they, in their unending aggression choose to stop, terrorized by our determination and strength; and only then there will be peace. For no faction will manage to completely destroy the other, the Union do not wish to prolong the endless cycle of death and war in which nothing of value will be obtained; and takes as its duty to stop when the time calls for it.

But not every lesson must be learned with blood, there still some hope about the Russians, it is clear that they still are power hungry, the mongols are already dealing with that but not ourselves and for that reason we can hope, hope to reach a treaty, hope to amend the wounds from the past and to forgive, hope to prosper together. But no change can be expected from the other part, it would be naive to expect the other side to show their cooperation first.
And for that reason the Union will take the first step to the road of cooperation and offer the Russians an agreement, to enjoy the fruits of commerce and peace.

SOUTHERN AFFAIRS

For years the Union stopped its attempts to integrate Afghanistan to its government but in this times, with the increasing world tension and rise of power of new and old nations, the Union can’t but seek to increase its strength in every possible way, rumors tell that nothing definitive has come from the high seats of the state but it is clear that the Union wants to integrate or affiliate Afghanistan to its sphere of influence, be on good terms or by less friendly ways and possible hints of early approach can be seen by those who are familiar in the game of geopolitics. The future of Afghanistan and its weak government remain unclear, only time will tell how the situation develops.

GEOPOLITICAL INTRIGUE

The following is an excerpt of a document unknown to anybody but insiders of the Russian government

CONFIDENTIAL

The Tsardom's government officials have had mixed opinions on what should be the Tsardom's foreign policy approach to the Turkic Union.

Russia's exports have severely declined with the collapse of globalization, and any relations of economic trade would benefit the struggling Russian economy. While Russia alone can adequately provide her subjects with basic necessities, it struggles in more advanced industries.

Developing trade with the Turkic Union would bolster the Russian economy and provide a friendly nation on its borders. A much greater threat to Russia is the western world. It is essential that we expand westward, unite our brothers of the triune Russian nation, and reduce our exposure to the North European Plain before the west consolidates. If the Turkic Union is offering its hand to friendly relations, it is of little benefit to pick up fights. And at the end of the day, Tsardom is a nuclear power. If we begin positive relations now, the Turkic Union may be a great friend to Russia should the west ever consolidate again.

On the other hand, a united Central Asia presents a potentially threatening power to be wary of. The only absolute guarantee of Russia's stability is direct political control over the Soviet Union's borders. We must not forget about the Tatar yoke and the geographical vulnerability of the steppes. If this power is unchallenged, they may threaten Russia and incite nationalist and separatist sentiments among the Tsardom's Turkic minority. Even if unintentional, a united Turkestan will undoubtedly bolster pan-Turanic sentiments among Turks across the world - especially considering that most of our Turkics remain Muslim. Short-term friendship may be acceptance, but this must only be a means towards an end.

From a more middle ground, perhaps the Turkic Union can be influenced and integrated to eventually reach the point of diplomatic annexation.

HOLIDAY SEASON IN THE TSARDOM

Conventionally, the holiday season in contemporary Russian society was associated with the New Year rather than Christmas. Russian Christmas, being celebrated on January 7th was rather something only seriously celebrated by the more religious minority of Russia. This tradition dates back to the Soviet Union, a result following its policy of state Atheism. Though last year may be the last time this takes place. The Tsar issued an imperial decree to undo this change in Russian society under the Soviet Union.

Imperial Decree of 02 November, 2040 (O.S.) (15 November, 2040 (N.S.)
We, Fyodor IV, By the Grace of God, Tsar and Autocrat of all Russia, proclaim to all Our loyal subjects:

We call for a return to the Julian Calendar and the traditionally Russian way of celebrating the holiday season. The Soviet-era New Year Holiday on December 31st of the Gregorian Calendar is hereby abolished. Celebrations of the holiday season on this day shall be severely discouraged. Instead, we call upon our subjects to move such celebrations to the Birth of Christ on December 25th in the Julian Calender, or January 7th in the Gregorian Calendar.

The Soviet Union remains an important chapter in Russian history. It demonstrated many our peoples' capabilities as a superpower, as well as lead the people's advancement and welfare against the excesses of capital. Its collapse remains the greatest geopolitical tragedy of the 20th Century. But we must not romanticize the Soviet Union and forget its downfalls: the biggest of which being the persecution of Russia's Orthodox faith.

Since the Christianization of the Rus, The Rus had become baptized as an Orthodox nation. Above any civil society on Earth is a way of life and eternal Kingdom passed down by our spiritual ancestors of the Russian Land such as saints Vladimir, Olga, Sergius of Radonezh, Seraphim of Sarov, and the countless New Martyrs and Confessors. To us, this is what the Holy Rus and Third Rome entails. Not the contemporary and worldly issues of the present.

For this reason, we are doing away with the secular New Year's holiday created by the Soviet Union and are returning to the original roots of Russia.

To further conform to our Russian traditions, we call to align the secular calendar of Russia with the clerical calendar utilized by the Moscow Patriarchate. To our brothers and sisters in faith outside of the Moscow Patriarch's boundaries, we encourage the local clerical authorities to return to the Old Julian Calendar for the sake of Orthodox unity, the persistence of Kyriopaschas absent from the Revised Julian Calendar, and to further emphasize that we are not of this world.

We require the government to execute our will as per the following:

1) Parades, festivals, and any large-scale celebrations occurring on the outdated New Year Holiday are strictly forbidden. Our noble workers in state-owned enterprises and government offices are required to resume work as normal and will not be granted time off this year. We ask our loyal subjects to withhold celebrations until the Nativity of our Lord.

2) All calendar dates in state-owned enterprises and government offices must be reverted to the Julian Calendar as soon as possible, with a clear notation of O.S. or N.S. next to the date to avoid confusion. Exceptions shall be provided for crucial industries, the details of which being specified in another document, where confusions may cause confusion detrimental to smooth operation. In such cases, much more time will be provided for a smooth transition.

It was coming, the Year of the Rooster. War had been declared between Inner Mongolia and Korea, which marked the end of the year with blood.

Mongolia unable to hold the extensive line and unable to have the manpower saw Chinese militias and military personnel alike march into Inner Mongolia at fast but erratic expansion. Hohhot swallowed merely in weeks as ROC Forces rolled into the streets in trucks. Han Chinese celebrated while the minority of the Mongolian people were deeply saddened or angered and took up rebellions against the ROC occupation of Inner Mongolia just as the Han Chinese did.

ROC and Mongolian casualties remained minimal, and not much fighting occurred as between actual forces, though more fighting occured against ROC personnel and Mongolian Rebels.

Total ROC Forces deployed: 300,000 Personnel in the forward march; 200,000 Personnel in logistics/backlines

ROC personnel casualty report: 7,314~ KIA; 3,512~ MIA
Mongolian Forces casualty report: 2,412~ KIA; 182~ MIA
Rebel Forces casualty report: 1,217~ KIA; N/A MIA

Though the end of the war between China & Mongolia is coming to an end, as Chinese officials sit down with Mongolian officials in the city of Yulin to discuss the annexation of Inner Mongolia, the terms, and other things within the treaty.

    | The Dragon of the East & the Bear of the West |

It is no surprise that the Tsardom of Russia (Beliya Rossiya) has been also focused on expansion, the question is how much is it willing to do so in order to expand to its former glory? There have been debates within the ROC Meetings, Vice President Sun Cheng-Shiak & her accomplice Minister Wen Yijun see's a potential ally to the West, while President Hu Tai & Minister Shi Yin do not.

Hu Tai: "While I respect your opinion Ms. Sun, I do not see any benefit in allying with a close expansionist neighbor who we may come in conflict with in the future."

Sun Cheng-Shiak: "Though the oil deposits and all that Russia has to offer to us, what about that? We are in an oil and energy crisis at the moment now aren't we?"

Hu Tai: "And we are in a conflict with the Turkic Union (Derwan), to which Russia has been securing an alliance, it may be unwise to be very dependent on them and focus on securing oil in the Middle East, Texas, Southeast Asian Federation, and Canada." she says, Sun didn't also like it that the Russians were trying to secure friendship with the Turkic Union, especially when Turkic Union had annexed Xinjiang, China's largest autonomous provincial states. And had a lot of natural resources and oil that China could have used to develop.

Sun: "Perhaps we can secure some sort of deal with the two? Get on good terms with Russia and they give us good word to Turkic Union?"

Hu Tai: "I doubt, Russians are planning to expand as they usually like, their friendship with Turkic Union just suggests they want to dominate the politics and resources of that region so as to secure their former territories lost. Who knows, perhaps they see it as a big win that it includes also the Xinjiang province and have more natural resources to trade in. I doubt that the Russians are just willing to lend it to us the province like that like Candy."

Sun: "You neve--" Sun was then interrupted by Hu Tai slapping the desk and raising up from her chair.

Hu Tai: "This is not a debate, Ms. Sun, I am not going to write off any diplomatic letters or friendships with the Tsardom of Russia, it is a ghost of the past just like Germany, the ghost that haunted us during the Century of humiliation. Not another series of unequal treaties, not another Eight-Nation Alliance, not another Pavlov Agreement, not another invasion of Manchuria, and not another anti-Chinese pogrom!" she says, "I would like to remind you that Russians invaded Xinjiang during the Xinjiang Wars, how the 36th Division of the National Revolutionary Army fought against the Russians in their attempt to annex or colonize Xinjiang, red or not, they will bomb or gas us, choke the nation and divide it amongst themselves while the west comes along to also reap what China has to offer. If you have nothing else to offer, please I ask you to withdraw the troops causing a ruckus in Xinjiang, I need them to focus on sweeping out and controlling the other warlords within China." she says. Sun would stay silent and she would bow and leave the room, no point in convincing a lady dead set against the cooperation of former colonists, especially those who reverted back to their old ways of practicing monarchism.

      ROC-Korean Front

    | Rapid assault |

Once the ROC declared war against Korea, not only for deploying chemical weapons against ROC Border officers, though the oppression of Han Chinese in Manchuria along with other reasons. ROC forces rushed down through and into Jilin and former parts of Manchuria that were once Inner Mongolia. Chinese took equal losses to that of Koreans in Jilin whilst the new fronts opened up in the war between China and Mongolia allowed for additional ROC Forces to storm in and take much of the Greater Khingan range which had been less defended by the Korean forces, had suffered major losses, at the moment the Chinese are trying to hold down the frontlines.

Currently, the Chinese forces have divided the Korean Forces, one in Heilongjiang who are defending the province or themselves not giving up to the Chinese forces fiercely, whilst Korean forces in Korea stack up to try and liberate their forces encircled in Heilongjiang. Chinese forces are bogged down due to logistics and it is estimated that Korean forces may beat the back or Chinese forces may make a tactical withdrawal in order to improve the logistical system. Korea and China have also gone through a fierce air battle, with Korean Air Units dropping supplies in Heilongjiang and bomb supply routes to Manchuria while Chinese forces try and intercept them or bomb Heilongjiang.

Korean forces have also engaged in a naval battle with the Chinese, mainly in the Yellow Sea and parts of the East China Sea.

Total ROC Forces deployed: 600,000 Personnel in the forward march; 400,000 Personnel in logistics/backlines.

ROC personnel casualty report: 12,125~ KIA; 1,512~ MIA
Korean Forces casualty report: 13,243~ KIA; 112~ MIA
Rebel Forces casualty report: 741~ KIA; N/A MIA

ROC Air Force casualty report: 24 planes

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shi Yin, would be flown from Beijing to Texas to strike a deal with Texas, given China's need for oil it had to either seek it in Texas or the Middle East, it was still rather vital to China to seek it elsewhere so as to dampen the effects of the oil crisis within China. Otherwise, it'd be forced to try to find more alternatives and take debts in order to invest in these alternative technologies. Though right now China is looking to grow its industry rather than look for other alternatives. Though what better way than Texas.

Shi Yin would want to allow Texan companies to operate in China, allowing goods to be produced cheaper and allowing private enterprises to sell and buy stuff in China, China will be willing to buy oil from Texas to keep gas prices low and to allow for easier business to be conducted in China due to low gas prices and low costs in shipping goods out of China.

    | Withdrawal of the 127th Division |

Derwan wrote:--Snip--

It had been three months since the 127th Division was causing a ruckus in Xinjiang, going from place to place with a lot of ethnic Han Chinese people who had been settled there in the past due to PRC policies of sinicization. In Hami gathering up Han Chinese people to evacuate them to China free of transport fee and free passports as well, Bayin'gholin had somewhat liberated though the division couldn't progress further due to large amounts of forces coming from the Turkic Union that they had been more or less chased around and lost forces day by day afterward. Major General Yu Huo was ordered by Beijing to withdraw back to Qinghai or Gansu so that no further attempts of instigating conflict with Turkic Union shall happen. Even though Xinjiang had been home to around 9-8 Million Han Chinese.

Yu Huo would make a withdrawal from Xinjiang to China, around 12,937 soldiers were lost, 43 Trucks, 34 IFV's, and 12 Tanks. It had been a devastating defeat to the Division. Especially in the battle of Hami where the Turkic Forces ambushed the 127th Division and split the Division in half, killing 5,428 soldierss, and destroying 9 Tanks, 32 Trucks, and 23 IFV's. A lot of blood from the ROC side had been spilled in that battle and had become an embarrassment to China and the military itself. Yu Huo would be trialed but would find herself only serving a discharge from the military and a sentence of 4 years in prison for not abiding by the high command. It is likely that Han Chinese may face persecution by the Turkic Government and another refugee crisis may arise that may agitate the stability of China, though Han Chinese fleeing from Turkic Union would be granted asylum if they can prove their Han ancestry. Border security would be high between the ROC & the Turkic Union as the friendship growing between the TU & the Tsardom becomes a worry for the Dragon to the East while it focuses on Manchuria.

January 05, 2041

Things were looking dire for the Home of the Blues. The Americans had been relentlessly shelling the city ever since the war started, and the only people left in the city were scared, disheveled soldiers from both sides of the Mississippi. The famous Memphis Pyramid where Marcus Osborne had stood almost a year ago, was now missing its top section as it had been hit by a few small rockets.

The western Tennessee Border was the only place Americans could really attack from lest they infringe on Texas’ neutrality to their South, or enter the very hostile Kentucky in Columbia. Naturally, Memphis was the prime target, and saw the most combat by far. The demolition of the DeSoto bridge and other border bridges only halted the progress of American land vehicles, which they had used very little of anyways. American drones terrorized Memphis from the skies, while boats helped the ground soldiers cross the Mississippi River. Little progress had been made on each side. Sometimes the Carolinians made it into Arkansas, only to be pushed back by American forces. The reverse would happen as well; Americans would barrage Memphis before being driven out a few days later.

But now it has been nearly 2 weeks since Carolinian soldiers had last touched American soil. The Carolinians had fought ferociously for Memphis, or at least what was left of it, because losing it gave the Americans access to critical infrastructure, resources, and prisoners of war. But their tenacity would evidently not be enough to save the Grind City. Currently, Americans were making another advancement into Memphis, flooding Downtown with more soldiers. Carolinian snipers hid in the now abandoned skyscrapers, while more infantry and artillery vehicles set up defenses between Midtown and Downtown.

The air raid sirens began to sound, the defending soldiers looking up in fear. Thankfully, an anti-aircraft missile launcher had been deployed around 3 miles away, and had spotted oncoming drones coming from the north. Soldiers took cover into nearby buildings as the missiles roared to life, scattering in seemingly random, yet computer calculated pathways. The three drones were shot out of the sky, the wreckage raining down upon the homes and businesses below.

But the soldiers didn’t have time to be relieved, as they were soon facing a barrage of bullets as Americans made their way closer to Midtown. Carolinian APCs provided support to the ground soldiers, firing explosives and machine gun fire into the hoard of American soldiers. But of course, they didn’t plan their advance with just foot troops in mind.

Some ground vehicles of their own had successfully been airlifted into Carolinian territory, and were rapidly approaching the soldiers from the North, South, and West. The skyscraper snipers were wiped out by these vehicles, as they were equipped with thermal cameras and quickly spotted them.

The soldiers were about to be choked out and pushed out of the area. The commander demanded the troops moved back farther east into midtown, as the Americans got closer and closer. This had been the farthest the Americans have advanced into Memphis they had done so far. But luckily, the Carolinians had a plan.

Hidden in underground downtown parking garages, Carolinian APCs and tanks exited at the American’s flanks, attacking them from behind. Most of the American ground vehicles were positioned towards the front to help in the advancement, with little protection in the rear. The soldiers in the front were too busy engaging with the Carolinians on the bridge to send support to the back.

Midtown was filled with tall buildings. Hospitals, college buildings, and luxury apartments which had been abandoned early on in the war. Some of these remaining buildings had either been rigged to explode, or housed extra personnel and artillery that the Americans couldn’t see. As the Carolinians kept moving east, leading the Americans deeper into Midtown, the first building to be. detonated was a section of a college facility, taking how a chunk of now confused American soldiers. The dust allowed for an an excellent opportunity to fire into the blinded soldiers.

Other platoons faced similar situations, as random buildings exploded with no rhyme or reason, taking out portions of American soldiers or heavily damaging vehicles that happened to be too close. Meanwhile, Carolinian APCs from both downtown and hidden in Midtown took their opportunity to choke the American personnel from the flanks and sides. Tens of buildings were completely leveled in the explosions, taking out hundreds of American soldiers. It was a bloodbath. Randomly exploding corner stores or children’s daycares snuffed the lives out of young men and women in an instant. If they were unlucky enough to survive the explosions, they would either be shot from a bullet flying through the dust, or ran over by a Carolinian APC that they didn’t know was behind them until it was on top of them. It was brutal, and traumatizing for even the Carolinian soldiers to witness unfold. In war there was no room for mercy.

Shrapnel from shot down drones rained down on everyone below, killing quite a few personnel on both sides, including a couple American commanders. This was enough to make the Americans retreat from the danger, Carolinians giving chase behind them. Facing double the APCs and soldiers than they had originally suspected, hundreds of retreating Americans were slaughtered by heavy gun fire. As they were pushed into downtown, the remaining soldiers soon realized they were not only lost in an unfamiliar city, but their boats had been relocated to patrol the waters around Memphis. It would take minutes for the boats to return to shore and pick up the stragglers, crucial minutes that were drying up fast.

Cornered and feeling helpless, a few soldiers took their lives before the Carolinians could do it for them. They had greatly underestimated the Carolinian forces, as their forces had managed to take back Memphis in the span of a couple hours.

Finally, the boats would arrive and pick up the remaining soldiers, embracing them in the safety of their armored hulls. The Carolinian soldiers watched from the shore as the boats sailed back to Arkansas. It was a bittersweet victory, as they knew the chance that the Americans would more than likely come back with more firepower and more sense. This is how it had been for the past month. But for now they could sleep somewhat peacefully tonight.

Marcus and his family had been down here for days. Cities across Carolina, including Charlotte, were targets of missile attacks, although the anti-missile defense system had done an incredible job destroying many of them before they could even enter city limits. Still, the country was not going to take chances when it came to protecting the president.

Communication was slow to reach the President, and he was hardly allowed outside the bunker. All communication to and from the bunker was being monitored by layers of security. He was not allowed to use his personal computer, only a bunker computer where he could perform his duties. Unfortunately it was only operational through the bunker’s special internet servers, each piece of information being meticulously inspected or edited by security personnel. The system had not been updated since the Palmetto Mansion was built as well, so emails could take days to finally come through. It was an awful way to spend the New Years.

Briefings of the situation outside would come through on the hour, as the Secretary of Defense was in the bunker with him, receiving typed pieces of paper with relevant information it. Marcus was well aware as to what was occurring in Memphis, He also knew that the country was struggling in its warfare. Carolina was in no position to fight right now. Compared to her neighbor’s, Carolina’s military equipment was outdated. Active personnel count was small, and the constitution forbade the draft. The nation had the third smallest economy in North America behind Mordusville and Alaska despite having almost 7x the population of the former. There were little to no domestic manufacturers, so the federal reserve was taking on massive amounts of debt from Columbian manufacturers to keep a steady flow of weapons, vehicles, and supplies going to the military.

It was a frustrating situation to be in. As Marcus sat in the cold, concrete bunker, waiting for the impossibly slow computer to notify him for anything, Marcus scratched his head trying to think about what to do about the war, and work towards some sort of peace. But given that the Americans instigated the war by sacrificing their own diplomats, it was unlikely they would want to work towards a peace deal that involved anything short of total occupation of Carolina.

The computer made a notification sound, quickly catching Marcus’ attention. It was an email from the Secretary of External Affairs. Quickly, Marcus opened the email only to see that it had been originally sent out weeks ago. He read it, shocked by what he saw.

Patagonia-araucania had invited Carolina, along with Columbia (Jakkonia), America, and Pacifica to Oshovia for peace talks… and the Americans accepted?? Impossible.

Marcus couldn’t help but be enraged. What was the point of this war? Why did thousands of Carolinians have to lose their lives to Americans who declared war, only to want peace a couple months later? Of course he didn’t want to fight, or for more Carolinians to die, but it was a slap in the face. Marcus was afraid they would’ve died in vain. Marcus wanted restitution.

He eagerly accepted the invite. But he would not let those Carolinians have lost their life without some sort of compensation.

He began typing out an email to respond, furiously typing out demands for Carolina. He also requested that if the Americans did not accept, that Patagonia could potentially arm Carolinians with weapons and supplies to aid them in the war. He understood that Patagonian soldiers were already fighting in Tsone (Roedthaffen), and wasn’t sure how much they could do for Carolina. But he needed all the help they could get.

January 2041

Following the summer holiday break, the Doge and the rest of his Cabinet returned to the capital as Parliament was back in session. Today would also be the first day of peace talks between the United States of America and the coalition forces of the Commonwealth of Columbia and the Carolinian Republic. Also in attendance would be envoys from the Pacific States of America, Mordusville and the Republic of Texas as neutral observers. Over the holidays, preparations were made as invitations were accepted. The Burgundy Hall of the Palazzo San Marco would serve as the venue for the summit and feast.

With private jets arriving at Apostolos Valerianos Int. Airport, the Via Lungomare along the Bay of Oshovia was cordoned off between the airport and the Parliament Hill to assure the security of the armored convoys transporting the delegations. One by one, the Doge shook hands and took photo ops with President Jones of America, President Dunlevy of Columbia, President Osborne of Carolina, President Harris of Pacifica, President Lindberg of Mordusville and Eliza Fletcher, the Texan Chief of Staff. After photo ops, each envoy was escorted by Dogal Guards to their seats in the Burgundy Hall, a vast room of burgundy, gold-leaf moldings and imposing windows overlooking the Bay.

With the Doge himself finally seated and attendents having poured evryone a glass of wine from the Dogal Summer Estate vineyard in Viña del Mar, the peace talk summits were underway.

POLITICAL AND COSMIC EXPANSION

CONFIDENTIAL MESSAGE TO THE REPUBLIC OF CHINA
January 7, 2041 (N.S.)
Dear President Hu Tai,
and whom else it may concern,

We have heard word about animosity developing between the Republic of China and Tsardom of Russia over our recent steps towards relations with the Turkic Union. I would like to personally clarify that the Russian Tsardom has not made definitive conclusions about its policy towards the Turkic Union. We have merely responded cordially to a nation being friendly towards us, as we have struggled with some diplomatic isolation and are seeking out friends.

The Tsardom of Russia has great suspicions of the Turkic Union and sees a United Central Asia as somewhat of a threat. We believe the Republic of China would be one of the best nations to cooperate with.
Word has come to us about the Republic of China’s struggle with oil and energy resources. Russia has a great surplus of these resources and desperately seeks out nations to trade with.

Moreover, we have absolutely no interest in the former Chinese region of Xinjiang. We also believe that Chinese and Russian collaboration would make both of us stronger against western powers – should they chose to consolidate as a united alliance once again. Hostile relations will benefit neither of us.

The Tsar seeks to personally discuss more about Chinese-Russian relations in a city of your choice

~ Tsar Fyodor IV

Invasion of Mongolia
Despite orders by the Tsar for local civilians to not communicate of Russian military movements anywhere, word had leaked out of Russian military movements across Siberia towards the Mongolian borders. While the government has remained silent, it is suspect that an invasion of Mongolia is looming on the horizon.

It is speculated that the most crucial reason for the Russian invasion of Mongolia is to ensure the entire trans-Siberian railroad is back under Russian control.

Restoration of the International Space Station
The global economic and political collapse felt across the world had resulted in the International Space Station to close down. The last mission to the International Space Station had mothballed it, ensuring it would remain somewhat in tact for decades to come – once the world was more stable.

With the re-emergence of Russia, the nation has sought to restore its space program and expand it to new Horizons. The Tsar has expressed support for manned missions to the Moon and Mars, in a speech mimicking Kennedy's famous speech of 1962:

Excerpt:
"Russia was the first country to enter space. We launched the first unmanned mission with Sputnik, and the first manned mission with Yuri Gagarin. With our nation's re-emergence and a vast frontier of space that we have yet to scratch the surface of, we are exploring the cosmos again. We chose to repair the International Space Station. We chose to go to the moon. We chose to go to Mars, and further beyond.

The United States likewise has its own accomplishments in space, especially their manned missions to the Moon. The Cold War is long over, as was the new Cold War that seemed to have begin emerging after 2014. Currently, we are launching a joint mission with the Texas Republic to begin repairing the International Space Station. We see this collaborative effort by the Texas Republic and Russian Tsardom as a mutually beneficial endeavor to a new beginning in mankind's expansion into space." ~ Tsar Fyodor IV

Vostochny Cosmodrome
January 20, 2041

In a joint effort by the Texan space agency and Roscosmos, a manned mission to repair the international space station was launched at the Vostochny Cosmodrome.

The rocket launched is a Soyuz MS-20 BE - a modified version of the Soyuz MS-20 to hold a crew of 6 rather than 3. While Roscosmos originally sought to use the Orel module, a project for a new-generation spacecraft, logistical difficulties and cost lead to Roscosmos reverting back to the Soyuz spacecraft.

Aboard the rocket were the following cosmonauts and astronauts:

Russian Nationals:

    Vasiliy Grigorev
    Vladimir Federov
    Elizaveta Kuzmina

Texan Nationals:

    Julio Reyes
    Walker Jackson
    Emily Alvarez

The Tsar's promotion of space travel was not without controversy. Amidst a state that's struggled economically, many have heavily critiqued the Tsar for what they called "fruitless and vain" spending on space travel whilst more important issues were facing the Russian nation. Proponents argued space travel would be important in restoring Russia's national spirit and prestige as a superpower.

Blood flows and empties itself through a drainage hole some few inches away from it, beyond it are three bodies, recently executed as ordered. In the light of the day, eclipsed by standing figures, they vacate the bodies in oversized gym bags and would speed off with their vehicle elsewhere. One of the figures would simply walk out of the premises alongside a colleague.

“Cleaning up rats and vermin after the war has been a major problem these days. I don’t know why I bother joining these cleansing operations, I’m already a head representative meaning I don’t have to actually join. But I guess the thrill and for the fun of it…Hehehe..”

Two months have passed since the end of the Tsonese Civil war. The country united under a single banner but below the pole are three men holding the ropes of the flag, Colombian, Patagonian and Tsonese. They vie for control and supremacy over the nation knowing that the Tsonese are still weak after the whole civil war. To Tsonese, the Patagonians are one of their long time friends that stretch back their histories hundreds of years ago, intertwining in minor and major roles throughout their time within the continent, to the Colombians, the Patagonians are using their militaristic leverage and their historical precedence to gain a significant amount of influence over their policies, societal changes and government itself.

The Colombians aren’t supposed to be here either way. Gran Colombia only intervened when they saw their economic trade routes within the Northern parts of Tsone were being disrupted, using the persecution of Christians as their reasoning of “Pre-emptive Intervention” Gran Colombia itself is a Narcostate disguised with white suits of a “benevolent government” They’ve gain enough ground and influence to have a say in the Tsonese Provisional Government, being the other Special Representative Advisor other than the Patagonian. Both have maintained a tacit response to one another albeit it cannot be said the same with their actions to the Tsonese.

The Tsonese Provisional Government represents the reformed Commonwealth of Tsone. Because of the civil war being primarily orchestrated by radical extreme leftist groups, the “People’s” part of the name of the nation has been removed. Socialism and leftism in general has been an all time low support ever since the civil war although justified, there are remnants of former left-leaning parties attempting to reform and reestablish the party under a new name. Far-right elements have become more common with the exacerbation of the Godless Militant Group. The Tsonese Provisional Government consist of Five High Representatives and Two Special Representative Advisors from Colombia and Patagonia. They are:

Li Yong – Former Prime Minister of the Emergency Government
Han Yuxin – Former Councilor and Governor for the Dawan Province
Hou Sujie – Commander of the Tsonese Naval Fleet and former Head Councilor of National Defense
He Xin Yue – Head Councilor of Agriculture before the Civil War
Xie Ao Li – Deputy Councilor of Education
Arturo Pousa – Special Representative Advisor of Colombia, Deputy Minister of Economy
Rafael Beltran-Fuentes – Special Representative Advisor of Patagonia-Araucania, Minister of Foreign Affairs

A sunny day, a good day to smoke a cigar, a good day to hang your laundry on a clothesline, otherwise its just any other day within Tsone. Scenes of construction vehicles rumble the ground below, the Pan-Tsone High Speed Line, originally the Nantian Track and the Southern Track, with support and funding from Patagonian companies, some of them the same companies already in the projects of expanding the infrastructure, has finally been completed. The Pan-Tsone Track was easily repaired and further expanded and refurbished for better trains and compatibility with 5th gen Maglev Trains, efficiency between Tsonese and Patagonian teams are well known, even despite previous incidents and cases.

Yuxin: “Feels wrong to smoke a cigar while on the job.”

Yong: “We’ve earned it. But I know how you feel”

Yuxin: “We still got problems to deal with. The Colombians for example. Im already hearing reports from our informants within the northern region as well as the checkpoints that they just recently confiscated 200 kilograms of snow.”

Yong: “At the Tracks?”

Yuxin: “Just days after its grand re-opening, as if it was planned all this time.”

Yong: “We did receive conflicting reports of unknown cargo being dropped off our ports during the civil war, the cargo would disappear at the dead of night and even security footage doesn’t show anything.”

Yuxin: “I have my eyes on Yue, she’s been acting peculiar ever since the beginning of her tenure as a High Representative, half of the time she’s not even in our meetings, and if she is, she leaves halfway through.”

Birds would fly, cigars dropped, multiple shots would be heard from down below. As both would look down from the railing they see the panic crowd and several running figures. Dispatching an emergency team as well as a security attache to secure the perimeter, it seems to be another set of problems that they have to deal with…

Officer 1: “It’s a GMG Militant.”

Yong: “I know. But whats that in the bag. That white brick.”

The officers would grow quiet, the police around the area trade empty glances at both Yuxin and Yong. Yong would notice the subtle tensity in the atmosphere and would look at the officer intensely. The officer would shiver slightly and so did the other officers and units, backing off.

Yong: “I’ll make this clear only once. What’s that in the bag?”

Officer 1: “I’it’s a p-package.”

Yuxin: “Hey Yong.”

Yong would simply gesture Yuxin to stop and watch.

Murmurs and whispering would commence as suddenly the entire group within the area would converge onto the perimeter and would clean out the area, collect the evidence and follow proper protocol. Returning back to the building, unholstering his phone, a quick phone call to the Head of Police within the Nantian Metropolitan Area would see the dismissal of several 7 officers in a single day. Yong would comment that half of the cops in the Metro area are on someone’s payroll and is eager to do a total administrative and bureaucratic clean house once the Provisional Government transitions into the official government.

Extrajudicial killings, drug cartels, rampant corruption and kleptocratic nepotism suddenly appear within Tsone. Such things were rare, or atleast controlled to a certain extend before the civil war. The High Representatives, mainly Yong and Yuxin would have to see the days where their beloved country would become totally foreign to them both in soul, body and spirit.

It’s a challenge for both of them, to find new allies, after all, crossing the river by touching the stones is the only way to move forward.

After a long and arduous journey around Africa and Asia, the diplomats from Estado nuevo have arrived. They are King Luis and Princess Eugenia. They bring with them many gifts including casks of Spanish wine and a new, shiny sports car. While they had announced their intentions to visit years ago, due to unforeseen obstacles and delays, it is only now that they are arriving. They ask to speak to the President of The eastern radiance.

OPPOSITE FRONTIERS MEET: THE OLD WEST AND SIBERIA

Economic struggles
Tsar Fyodor IV politically stabilized a fractured Russia and restored a comfortable economic condition for the masses of Russians. Militarily, Fyodor IV re-militarized society - much beyond what was present in the Russian Federation. 2-year conscription was implemented, propaganda was massively produced, and large efforts were made into physical fitness - increasing physical education mandates across Russian schools and colleges, and youth groups to incentivize "Russian values" and physical fitness were created.

Regardless of Fyodor's political, economic, and military accomplishments, the Russian economy greatly struggled with high-tech industries. This especially manifested with logistical difficulties in manufacturing critical components of its arms. Corruption had gotten in the way of ensuring military production was not outsourced abroad. This followed the Russian Federation's military, which relied on importing high-tech components, leaving a poor base to work with. Fyodor IV originally commenced the production of outdated equipment for Russia's militarization.

On the civilian front, technology in Russia appeared to be struggling after the turbulence of the 2020s. In spite of the Russian Federation's flaws, it managed to maintain impressive infrastructure in online information warfare and cyberattack capabilities. The Tsardom has yet to restore such capabilities.

Starting with the mid 2030s, Russia has sought collaboration with the Texas Republic to bolster its technological development, a nation home to many American tech industries. With the assistance of Texas, Russia began a path of gradually increasing its military technology and autarky. Currently, the Tsar has made increased efforts towards economic collaboration with the Texas Republic to accelerate the process. In assistance for collaboration and expansion on Russia's domestic military technology industry, the Tsar is offering a market of over 200 million Russians and plenty of raw resources for the Texan civilian tech industry.

Russia in the Texan imagination
As the frontier of Russia, Siberia has often compared to western expansion by the United States. In the post-Antebellum era of America, the state of Texas sought to abandon the image of a southern state in favor of a frontier state. It is often said everything is bigger, both in the context of Russia and in Texas. Perhaps the collaboration of Texas and Russia is not so ironic after all.

After the post-Soviet collapse, Russian-American relations appeared to be on the verge of a positive trend, until conflicting geopolitical interests came to fruition. After the invasion of Ukraine in 2022, a new Cold War appeared to be emerging.

For a brief period of time during Donald Trump's presidency, a small minority of Americans had differing opinions - favoring a more collaborative attitude with Russia. Among these included a niche minority of its conservatives, who saw Putin as a "strong conservative leader" that fought for national and traditional values amidst a world that seemed on the verge of alienating conservativism and nationalism. Former Presidents Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin appeared to be getting along well and setting a positive future for American-Russian relations.

However, most of these sentiments declined after the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Americans across the political spectrum, left and right alike, carried negative views of Russia that intensified after the invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

In the modern day Texan Republic, after the American collapse, politics appeared to taking a new turn. The New Democrats, a party that increasingly abandoned its liberalism and moral values for selling its soul to the tech industry's technocracy, saw Russia as a valuable business partner. Meanwhile, the Christian Republicans adopted negative views towards the Tsardom of Russia. Distaining it for their Orthodox Christianity that is mocked as "pagan idolatry" by their hardcore Evangelicals, its "leftist" economic reforms eerily reminding the Christian Republicans of communism, besides general strangeness and foreignness of the Russians.

Thus to the disdain of the Christian Republicans, Russia began collaborating with Texan tech companies in the mid 2030s. With the election of the New Democrats, Russian-Texan relations have taken a new turn with a continued expansion of relations and collaboration. Especially amidst Adonis's desire to merge the government with its tech corporations.

War with Mongolia
Russia has clearly been reported to be amassing a buildup of troops near the Mongolian border, with estimates ranging from 100,000 to 300,000 personnel. No comment has yet to be made from the government with the context, with hesitant denials.

Unity, Prosperity, & Nationality | Part 1

Baltica is a nation that is in prosperity but also in turmoil. Some may say Baltica is not a nation rather a confederation as while there is a federal government the regional governments holds the most power over their specific regions. This division of power has led to specific regions becoming increasingly prosperous while the other regions are either stagnant or in a recession. Politically, the king is fed up with the inability of the parliament to function and there are rumors that the king is preparing a coup d'etat.

The Lithuanian Crisis
Lithuania is the hardest hit nation due the ineffective federal government. The main reason is that as the federal government became ineffective and stopped enforcing regulations, the Lithuanian government became more and more corrupt. Bribery is rampant and the two main political parties have had a joint coalition for nearly a decade, essentially forming a one party state. Due to this the Lithuanian economy has plummeted into a recession with any remaining profits being siphoned into politicians pockets. Over 60 percent of Lithouns are below the poverty line with only 5 percent say that they are able to live comfortably. Prices of essential goods has been artificially raised by politicians in order to line their pockets, leading to large amounts of volatility within the national Baltica Kroon.

The Kaliningrad Situation
The former Kaliningrad Oblast finds itself in a strange state. Officially and politically Kaliningrad is a part of Lithuania. However for many years now, this is not the case. When the Governance of Kaliningrad realized the corruption within the Lithuanian government, they immediately declared independence, forming the Autonomous Kaliningrad State. This division however is still not recognized by the federal Baltica Government as the bill that would do this died and/or became dormant as soon as it entered the houses of parliament. Economically Kaliningrad is doing much better than both Lithuania and Latvia. Semi official economic ranking place Kaliningrad third behind Estonia and Finland.

The Latvian Stagnancy
Latvia, like the federal government, has followed a very stagnant behavior. Politically, one will find little difference between the federal government and the Latvian Regional Government. However unlike the federal government, the Latvian government will pass new bills and laws albeit extremely slowly. Currently the average time it takes for the Latvian government to pass any form of legislation is estimated to be 5 to 7 years. Economically Latvia is much the same. The economy of Latvia is stagnant however there is still a slight positive trend unlike Lithuania, whose economy is essentially a dumpster fire. Like Lithuania a significant portion of the population is below the poverty line, at approximately 25 percent, however this value is slowly decreasing.

This is just Part 1 of my opening post. The remaining parts (Estonia and Finland) is taking a lot longer to write than expected.

The prayers of the Carolinian people had been answered, but not in the way they had hoped. After the end of the four-month war between the two countries, Memphis had been destroyed. The iconic Memphis Skyline had been defaced now that the pyramid was no longer standing. The streets were scarred by craters left behind by explosives. There were piles of rubble where family businesses and homes once stood. Even the historic Memphis Central station, while operational, had a large hole in the upper left side of the building, where an RPG rocket had struck.

It was 1:00 am. On the station's platforms, were lines of handcuffed prisoners, 40 in each, waiting anxiously in the cold rain. They were wanted by American authorities, for they had all stood against the American government in some way. Some had fled the draft by fleeing across the border. Others were vocal activists who staunchly opposed the American government's oppression, and continued to do so when they entered Carolina. Regardless of the severity of their crimes, they were all going to one place: a maximum-security federal prison somewhere in the Colorado Rockies. The fate which awaited them on the other side was unknown. They will have no trial, and they will never see their families and friends ever again.

Any minute now, they would be ushered into large, gray, unmarked train cabins with barred windows. The prisoners could hear the Carolinian protestors on the other side of the building. Memphis locals pleaded for the release of the prisoners, held back by Carolinian soldiers.

The train cars opened, and the stairs deployed. Masked American police stepped out, and forced the groups into the train cars. The Carolinian citizens, seeing this from the station's parking lot became aggressive. Some began jumping the fence in an attempt to do anything to prevent the prisoners from leaving the city. Unfortunately, the American police had riot shields ready to go, preventing protestors from climbing onto the slightly elevated platform.

The prisoners were pushed inside haphazardly, as they tried to squeeze them in as quickly as possible. The train’s diesel engine roared to life as the last groups of prisoners were stowed. The doors were closed apart from the police's traincar. The Carolinian soldiers jumped the fences to restrain their angry citizens. As the train began to lurch forward, a wave protesters began to take chase, throwing rocks and other objects at the trains bulletproof windows and titanium armor. The police were not spared from the projectiles, getting hit as they climbed back into the moving train.

The train would not heed to their attacks, eventually out running the protestors. It blew its whistle triumphantly, almost mocking the protesters attempt to save the political prisoners.

The Carolinian soldiers had orders from the Palmetto Mansion not to arrest the protesters under any circumstances. This was the unfortunate cost of war. More than likely, those prisoners would either be imprisoned for life or executed, and in return, thousands of innocent Carolinians and Americans would be spared from further combat and destruction.

The train crossed the Mississippi river into Arkansas, dissapearing into the silent night.

Carolinian Congress had assembled to discuss the future of American-Carolinian relations. Their relationship prior to the war was already shaky at best, but of course, it had crashed and burned by the end.

Marcus stood outside the House of Representatives, where both chambers have congregated. He had to contain himself. Although he understood from the beginning that being the President meant making incredibly difficult decisions, he did not really process the full weight of what that meant until this past week. Marcus was stricken with unbelievable guilt, even if he knew he had been effectively forced into a corner.

Before he left Patagonia-araucania, he had scheduled a meeting with the Doge. Although it was originally supposed to happen the day after the peace talks, Marcus postponed it so that he may go home and face the people. Despite this, he was eager to start building relationships with Patagonia and Columbia. He knew he had to for Carolina to survive.

Marcus inhaled. He had already been haggled outside the legislative building by angry citizens and paparazzi thirsty for content. Now it was time to be yelled at by the war hawk Conservatives and Nationalists. It would be a sh*t show. But it was something he was used to at this point.

Once he entered the room, he came to find that the paries were already arguing with one another. It was a mess. Hardly any of them even realized the President entered the room before he stepped on the pedestal and tapped the mic.

Almost immediately, they went silent and stared down on him. Marcus could taste the tension, but he knew he had to stand firm. The broadcast was now live.

"Good evening everyone." Marcus began. Before he could get another word out, a National Party representative stood up and began shouting. "YOU COWARD! YOU KNEW WE COULDVE HELD OUT. INSTEAD YOU LET THEM HUMILIATE US. WHAT DOES IT SAY ABOUT A COUNTRY WHO SURRENDERS TO A DICTATOR AFTER FOUR MONTHS OF FIGHTING? YOU HAVE DISGRACED THE ARMED FORCES."

Marcus tried to stay calm, but already his character was being attacked. He held his tounge. "I didn't surrender. It was a peace agreement. Nobody surrendered."

A senator, conservative from Tennessee, stood up. "That's a crock of crap and you know it." He said with an accusatory inflection. "The western half of my province had been leveled, and we've got nothing to show for it. Now the Americans think they can do whatever they please with us thanks to your cowardice."

"Have you two even been to the front lines?" Called a female Liberal representative. "My father was a veteran who served in Afghanistan for the US army. He was so traumatized-" she stopped for a second. "He was so traumatized, he took his life to end his suffering. You don't know anything about war. If anything the president spared us from unforeseen amounts of pain."

"I'm sorry for your loss, Ms. Parsling." said a labor party representative. "I too fought for the U.S., in Mozambique. I wouldn't wish those horrors on anyone, regardless of the country."

"I only did what I must to prevent more young Carolinians from dying in a senseless war," Marcus stated plainly.

"Don't try and pretend like you've taken the noble route here," stood the same National party representative from earlier. "I agree that war is horrible. We all do. But the bottom line is that those soldiers were laying their lives on the line for the safety of our nation. President Osborne has only put the future of our nation in jeopardy. How long will it be until the Americans come back for more?"

Another National Party representative stood up. "I agree with Representative Downey. Mr. President, you may have convinced yourself that this is for the greater good, but in actuality, it has only set us up as a target for future American attacks. You oughta be ashamed of yourself. Whatever happens in the future, the blood will be on your hands."

"Oh please," Marcus retorted, "I'll be sure to hit you up next time we're in the midst of war, I'm sure you'd do a stellar job."

The chamber began to be filled with angry whispers.

"Before any remaining war hawks want to speak their peace, I want to take a minute to remind you of our situation. The American army alone has 2 times time the amount of our army, navy, and air force personnel combined. They have double the amount of nuclear weapons as well. We were on the cuff of losing Memphis altogether before the peace talks. They've also shown that they do not care about whether they hit civilian centers or not. If it means protecting more Carolinians from dying, I will do whatever it takes to stop further engagement wirh the Americans."

"I would like to add on to President Osborne's point," said Secretary of Defense, Leon Ramírez, "Yes, we were unprepared for war. But we will be prepared for any future attack from any nation. Currently our military is being restructured from the ground up. We've already made contracts with Columbian and Patagonian manufacturers to aquire new weaponry and utilities to bolster our armed forces."

"With all due respect Mr. Secretary, but what about the principle of the situation. None of that changes the fact that we are now easy pickings from other war mongering nations." Said a libertarian senator. New weapons or not, we need to know if the President is competent enough to lead the nation and protect our values. We need a real patriot as President."

Marcus stood up from his seat.

"I refuse to stand here and let you question my dedication to Carolina. Everything I do is for the betterment of this country, for the safety of our citizens. Forgive me for believing that war is not in our best interest. This is not some fantasy where the underdog takes on and defeats the powerful, evil empire. This is real life."

The progressive voting bloc began clapping for the President as the conservative block sat in silence.

"I refuse to let any more young lives be lost before they've gotten a chance live. Would any of you be willing to sacrifice your own children like that? Tell me honestly if you would be okay with that."

As the room got louder, the Secretary of defense began trying to quiet the room down. It was an emotional scene, as politicians yelled passionately at one another regarding warfare. Marcus continued to speak.

"You so called 'patriots' would rather drag Carolina through continous turmoil and pain for the sake of our values, when really you just want to prove to the world that we can be just as brutal, just as vile as our predecessor. I for one, want to usher in a new era of peace, prosperity, and unity for Carolina!"

At this point, even members of the conservative bloc began to stand and clap. The room was filled with all kinds of energy. Some happy, some angry. The pro-war members began to jeer and boo, gathering their belongings in preparation to leave.

Marcus was full of vigor. He wanted to take this energy and ride it to the moon and back.

Without thinking anymore, he stepped down from
The podium and left the room before the angry conservatives left themselves. Marcus was furiously textrd the limo to meet him out back and to take him to the Palmetto Mansion immediately. He had to draft some proposals in and get some rest before his meeting in Patagonia.

Though many thought it was a needle in a haystack, peace in North America has been found after 4 months of bloodshed. American forces have crossed back to the western banks of the Mississippi after the American President, Karter Jones, agreed to meet the demands of his Carolinian and Columbian rivals. In exchange for an immediate ceasefire that took place one our after the summit adjourned, America has relinquished Wisconsin after the Columbian President, Ethan Dunlevy, agreed to purchase the left-leaning state for 600 000 000 000$. America also ceded 3 000 000 000$ in war reparations to the Carolinians. Mordusville was also awarded compensation for trade disruptions from the Americans and Columbians due to the naval battles that took place in Lake Michigan.

All in the all, the Oshovia Summits have been a success, having ended the bloodshed and elevating the prestige of Patagonia on the world stage. Through clever maneuverings made by the Doge, Patagonia has also managed to preserve it's image of neutrality in the eyes of the Americans while signaling its desire to for arms deals with the battered Carolinian Armed Forces. Following an off-the -books meeting with the Carolinian President, Marcus Osborne, Patagonia has agreed to sell surplus arms and equipment to the Carolinians at a discount in order to bolster their defenses in the event of future American escalations. The possibility of joint military exercises were also floated.

Following the peace summit, Apollon set off alone into the Patagonian countryside north of Oshovia. No wife. No kids. No friends. Alone in nature enjoying the river-side rustic cabin he built as a young man the summer before first joining the military. This was were he felt at peace. No drugs or booze require. Salmon fishing and a bonfire were the only drugs he needed when away from the stresses of Man and the society he built.

COLUMBIA TRIUMPHS
ALBANY | NEW YORK STATE | REPUBLIC OF COLUMBIA

News of peace being achieved brought much jubilation to the Western States, especially that of Illinois who had become tired of the constant bloodshed on its lands. President Dunleavy would come home to roaring crowds and Columbian banners flying as he walked from the Presidential Jet. Confetti would be launched into the air as the National Anthem was played in the background. The news as well that a new state would be added brought much joy as well, though some were skeptical as Wisconsin despite wanting to join the Republic back in the days before the Treaty of Chicago was signed, ended up being a part of the Junta for over a decade. Though it was hoped by President Dunleavy and his allies in Albany that Wisconsin's addition to the Union would help not only to grow the Columbian economy but secure cities such as Chicago and Champaign from possible Junta attacks in the future. Though Conservative and Unionist Party Representatives were very much unhappy to hear that they had to pay a 600 Billion dollar price tag for it. Regardless though what was done is now done with, President Dunleavy knew this all too well as he walked up to the podium before a combined Congress. Having requested an emergency Combined Session, televised to the entire country for him to explain the situation to all of his people, including those in Wisconsin.

He took a deep breath, looking at the cameras trained on him in the back of the room. Behind him sat his Vice President, Patrick Blumhouse, and the two Speakers of the Chambers. He could feel that even they seemed a bit nervous as to the future. It was up to him to ensure confidence remained. With this all in mind he spoke, his voice calm but stern.

"My Fellow Columbians,

Today is a day that will fall into the history books as a victory for our Young Republic. In the mere four months that the North American Conflict took we have lost so many fine men, women, and even children to conflict. Though today I can say with a hopeful heart and assured mind that these lives lost were not lost in vein. They are not in vein because today we have triumphed over the forces of the Junta and have secured a second victory against the tyrants of the west. I have always said that I believed firmly in the strong will of our people and through this conflict it shined brighter than ever before. Now thanks to our efforts on the battlefield and in diplomatic talks we have secured a new edition to our growing republic, the State of Wisconsin. As we speak American forces have been forced to flee westward across the Mississippi and across the Wisconsin-Minnesota Border. We have secured peace and we have expanded our democracy.

Now to those who still feel nervous about the future, those who feel that at any moment America could and would strike again. I can assure you that we will be ready. We have shown twice now in a matter of not even two decades that we are a nation that shall not be trifled with. We are a nation that values our independence and our freedoms. We are a nation that has vowed to protect democratic traditions across this continent and wherever we deem needed. We do not do this for imperialistic ambition or because we see ourselves as some great visionary for peace. We do this because we believe that every man, woman, and child on this earth deserve the right for their voices to be heard. It is in that spirit that I believe today calls for celebration, today calls for Columbians across our great nation from Puerto Rico to Newfoundland, Maine to Illinois, to remember what we believe in as a country. Now specifically to those living in the now liberated State of Wisconsin..."

He took a moment to get a drink of water.

"It is with great pleasure that I introduce myself as your new leader, the President of the Republic of Columbia. We understand that after nearly fifteen years of forced repression under the iron boots of the junta that information was hard to come by and that many of you sitting at home might worry for the safety of your families and friends. Well let me ease those concerns. Wisconsin will be granted immediate statehood into the Republic which entitles your people to elect representatives and senators to represent your interests here in Albany. Along with this we are committed to building Wisconsin up to be a bastion of progress and growth. We in Columbia value growth and we want to ensure that every citizen of this country gets to experience it no matter their race, religion, sexuality, or ethnicity. It is an honor to be your president and I hope that even though you did not get to vote for me that you can trust me when I say you are in safe hands. The Republic is here for you."

His speech would continue, ending with the congress giving him a standing ovation, quite a different scene from the seeming chaos going on in Carolina at this current time. Though now was no time to focus on that, now was the time to secure Columbian interests, and the President knew exactly what to do next.

WELCOMING WISCONSIN
MILWAUKEE | STATE OF WISCONSIN | REPUBLIC OF COLUMBIA

The Presidents Jet landed in General Mitchell International (MKE) to a somewhat different scene than before. As he exited the plane on one side there were massive waves of supporters, signs being raised in support of the Presidents arrival, some even had managed to purchase Columbian flags to wave as well. It was somewhat heartwarming but that feeling did not last as he looked to the other side to see the counter-protesters, screaming at him as he left the plane. Signs calling him a warmonger and a tyrant along with flags of the Junta flying gave him a bit of a sinking feeling. Though of course he understood as the Milwaukee area went through a lot of the bloodshed as Columbian Forces had made their way to the city before the war ended. As the President walked he would shake the lands of many of the supporters, meanwhile his security team would do their best to keep the detractors at bay. A brick was thrown at the President, though it missed it did cause the guards to start going through the detractors, which made the scene even more dangerous before the President finally would say something, ushering the guardsmen back to his side as he walked over to the detractors. There he saw men, some seemingly Junta war veterans and their families. They didn't even seem angry... they just seemed scared out of their minds. He didn't say anything, only nodding to show that he saw them before moving to the end of the path.

Waiting for him there stood Military-Governor of Wisconsin Paul Wilson, the man Dunleavy put in charge to ensure a peaceful transition into the Republic. The two shook hands, the press taking pictures and video of the scene before them as supporters and detractors both shouted for the attention of the two men. President Dunleavy would walk up to a microphone waiting for him, wanting to say at least something to try and calm down the detractors. As he walked up the supporters roared, their new leader preparing to speak directly to them. Though the detractors also got louder, not wanting to be quiet as they showed their distaste for the situation. It was then that the President would speak.

"Hello Wisconsin! It is good to be here today in my mind. Though I guess it seems not everyone feels the same way. Now believe me I understand the worries many of you may and probably do have right now. You're worried, what will we do? What are our plans? You're scared and believe me you are validated to have those beliefs. Though I beg of you to believe me when I say that we in Albany are not here to screw you over. We understand that many of you have for years been fed the lies of the Junta Government. Many of you served in the armed forces of the Junta even... I see you. I see many of you today came wearing your uniforms, your proud and you should be proud. I know this may feel like a defeat, like you just lost everything but believe me when I say that we will fight for you just as we have fought for all of our citizens, because each and every one of you has something to contribute to the Republic and we feel that there is value in that. We want you all to be prosperous! We want you all to be happy and safe! We want you all to have your right to have a say in the government followed! That is what we are here to do folks! I can hear many of you screaming at me, calling me a tyrant and a warmonger. I understand that the brutality of this war has taken away so many lives unjustly and for that I take personal responsibility. I do not find joy in the bloodshed, I do not find joy in violence. It is clear what has happened here should never have happened. Though now I do believe that Wisconsin and the entirety of North America is better off for it. Your loved ones, your friends, your coworkers and acquaintances they did not die in vein. I know many of you have been hardwired to see me as the enemy but I can assure you that this is not reality. All I wish to do is help you and ensure that you all can experience the same prosperity and freedoms that everyone else across this republic does! Please at least give me a chance to serve you and allow me to show you all what true freedom and true democracy feels like. Thank You."

By the end of the speech the crowd was silent, the speech was sudden and unorganized but it meant something, and people could tell. Wilson nodded as he noticed some of the Junta flags lowering from the detractors. He walked up to the President with a smirk on his face.

"Impressive." He said, the president walking away from the microphone to speak to him directly. Meanwhile the crowds went back to cheering and screaming depending on who they were but it all felt much less chaotic than when he first arrived. The two would head towards a limo in waiting, getting in and being driven towards the city of Oshkosh to the east. The capital of Wisconsin used to be Madison but the decision was made to switch it so that it could be more secure and closer to key assets in the Columbian Military. It also helped considerably that the central region of support for joining the Republic happened to be in the east of the state. Even now in the west there were still Junta aligned groups fighting to try and maintain territory but of course they were quickly succumbing to the Columbians without support from the Junta Government.

Once they reached Oshkosh a couple hours later they were met with even more supporters, this time detractors not even being present as the two waved and greeted supporters as they walked into the Oshkosh City Hall. Inside they would be greeted by some of Wilson's close advisors, including former members of the Marshall's Government during Wisconsin's time in the Junta. They would all shake the hands of the President as they sat down and begun the discussion.

"So Wisconsin has a population of around 5.5 million people since many either moved to Junta territory or died in the war... so politically speaking this makes Wisconsin a massive gain for our Republic." Wilson said this in a neutral tone of voice. The rest of the table merely nodded before an advisor stood up. This was Bryan Peters, a defector and former right hand to Marshall Hank Lawson, the Marshall in charge before the liberation.

"As a member of the former government I can say that there will be some turmoil in the assimilation process. However there is also large levels of support, especially here in the east of the state where the population centers are, for the process. People seem to like you until you go out west to cities like La Crosse... there not so much. Though I do think in time people will understand this is for the greater good."

Dunleavy spoke.

"I hope so."

He sighed, unsure really what he should say or do.

"Though we can say they didn't really like the Junta either... we can say with certainty that around 70% of the state supports the Republic." Dunleavy nodded, at least popular support seemed to be in his corner. Now he just had to make sure he kept it and earned the support of the rest.

With this in mind the meeting continued, it was clear that there was work to be done.

IMPERIAL RESTORATION

Russia declares war on Mongolia
Russian Siberia and Mongolia | March 27th, 2041 (N.S.)

Russia had been amassing a military buildup in Siberia, failing to elaborate on what it was planning. Though it was very clear Russia was planning to retake its former territories. Thus, it came as no surprise when Russia declared war on Mongolia on March 6th, 2041.

The invasion of Mongolia was commenced with a bombardment of airstrikes and shelling all across Mongolia proper and Tuva. The Russian ground forces swiftly moved in - already weakened from a war with the Republic of China. Russia swiftly made gains in recapturing much of Irkutsk, Buryatia, and Zabaykalsky. Russian forces were welcomed by the ethnic Russian and religious Orthodox population, fairly to the disdain of the local Buryats who were inflamed by Mongolic irredentism but surrounded by ethnic Russians.

275K frontline personnel and 150K in logistics were sent to Mongolia. This included most of the Central and Eastern Military districts for ground forces, including the 58th Combined Arms Army from the Southern Military District, and the newly formed 3rd Guard Tanks Army - a guard of 700 Tanks mass-built in the 2030s mostly with older equipment due to logistical difficulties.

Mongolia used scorched-Earth tactics on Irkutsk, Buryatia, Zabaykalsky, placing little effort into defending those regions - largely occupied by ethnic Russians. A large chunk of the Trans-Siberian railroad was blown up, until the advancement of the Russian forces and airstrikes forced a Mongolian retreat to prevent any further destruction. While the original Mongolian invasion lead to a mass exodus of ethnic Russians and forced assimilation into Mongolic language and cultures, the demographics were recovered through years of Russian soft-power policies that promoted the demographics and growth of ethnic Russian and Orthodox communities. Several Russians were relocated to the Mongolian nation, sometimes by force, and many were prohibited from re-entering Russia. Internal Mongolian politics were infiltrated by the Kremlin to assist its minority.

While Russia made swift advancements into large chunks of Mongolia's northern regions within less than a month, the Tuvan and Altai regions is forecasted to be a bit more of a difficult task. Major battles have begun on the Russian-Tuvan border.

Its clear Russia will steamroll over Mongolia, a landlocked country with no allied aid and devastation from a previous war with China. Russian expansionists face little worry about Mongolia. Though there are great concerns in the future over the Caucuses and Ukraine, considering the Caucuses took decades to pacify and the reconquest of Ukraine in 2022 lead to the Russian Federation's collapse.

Expansion Intrigue
Moscow, Moscow Oblast, Tsardom of Russia

Fyodor IV frequently organized secretive meetings and legislative committees to discuss the future of Russia's imperial expansion. Amidst chaos unfolding in the Americas, Russian officials debated over expansion into Alaska. The following is an excerpt of a notable discussion between Dmitry Kuzmin, the Minister of Defence, and Ustin Kalashnik, an ambitious but controversial Federation Council member in the Foreign Affairs Committee.

Ustin: I'm telling you guys, the situation in America is the perfect opportunity to retake Alaska. Imagine the glory, riches, and strategic importance we'd gain from reconquering Alaska.

Dmitry: America is balkanized beyond repair, you think this will be the last conflict they ever face?

Ustin: Can we really take that risk? Look at how distracted they are. Alaska is a sparsely populated territory that we can easily fill with Russian settlers to secure our control. Plus, the indigenous populations will undoubtedly be sympathetic to our case.

Dmitry: And there are plenty of riches in the far east; we have yet to utilize our far east and you want to throw money down the drain in hopes of capturing Alaska? The Anglo-Alaskans will have guns on every corner. Every other commoner's house is loaded with AR-15s. It'll be a bloody useless guerilla war. We only captured Alaska when it was all bickering native tribes. Knowing those bloody Yanks, they will be worse than the Chukchis or Afghans.

Ustin: This is why I said we can ethnically displace the Yanks. There's less than 800K Alaskans and only 65% of them are white Anglo-Americans.

Dmitry: Ustin, you are sanguine beyond repair. We don't know for sure every native and other minority is going to side with us over Alaska. It's been 2 centuries since we last controlled it, Alaska is a lost cause.

Ustin: Can we not at least start now? We can begin dep-

Dmitry: Again with the forced relocations?

Ustin: It doesn't have to be forced, we can subsi-

Dmitry: Yeah whatever, that's the dumbest money pit I've heard o-

Dmitry: (At the same time) You're the one wh-

Fyodor IV: Silence, both of you. I think this debate is over. It's clear to us that Alaska, while having some potential benefits, is of lesser importance than other regions. For one we have relations to maintain with the Texas Republic, and I don't think they'll be happy to hear about us conquering Alaska. We will soon be retaking our lands from Mongolia. After that, we have other more important lands to worry about. We will revisit Alaska someday, but it's far from the most important. My decision here is final, and most of everyone else here agrees. Ustin, your opinion is in the minority.

"God, what the hell is this?" Marcus groaned, taking off his headphones. Another joke submission, of course. It was a hodgepodge of random cartoon sounds effects, with the dynamics turned up to the max. Sometimes it baffled him just how un-serious people could be.

Marcus sat alongside overworked and, frankly, underpaid members of the "Anthem Committee" trying to filter out scores submitted for the "national re-identification" referendum that would be taking place very soon. Marcus wanted to personally help with the process, torturing his ears for the sake of identity. Proposed by a representative, the point of the referendum is to essentially 're-design' the aesthetics of the country, meaning the flags, the anthem, the coat of arms, and more iconography in the nation would be changed. It was a way to solidify the idea of ushering Carolina into the so-called new era that Marcus had been pushing for. Thanks to the recent war between Carolina, and the successor state to the US, Carolinians everywhere were eager to remove anything with ties to the former U.S.

When the United States first fell, it was obvious the country's priorities were not focused on establishing an identity for itself. As a result, everywhere you go in, Carolina has references to the U.S., to the point where it still feels as if you're in the United States. State highways, US highways, and Interstates are still designated and signed as such. Carolina's military equipment still adorned American insignia. National Parks, historical sites, and attractions still reference the U.S. in their names and signage. Colleges and universities retain their names even though the states they were named for no longer exist. The defacto national anthem was the tune of the The Star-Spangled Banner with the lyrics removed, as their meaning no longer applied to Carolina or her flag. The Cornucopia flag is one of the only distinguishable items to represent Carolina. Even then, it was rushed through the first congress to distinguish itself from the U.S. Now that the sentiments against the U.S. have grown so quickly, most of those things were being changed as soon as possible, and a lot of stress was being put on the government.

Marcus skipped to the next anthem, crossing it out on the virtual document shared between the committee members. Out of the hundreds of submissions, many of which were varying renditions of the The Fishin' Hole from the Andy Griffith show, only 20 had been approved by most community members. Marcus was seriously regretting his decision to join the committee. At least in the national flag committee, the submissions couldn't physically damage one of his five senses.

Marcus scrolled down to see a song in the doc with a large amount of approval by the committee. Some comments pinned to the audio file link informed the listener that it was not a carbon copy of the rather obscure North Carolina state song and that it should be fully listened to. It was called "Ode to the Palmetto Republic," and Marcus decided to give it a shot and gave it a listen.

It was true that the anthem was a modified version of the North Carolina state song but more sonically appealing. Some more awkward bits were removed or trimmed up, creating an easy-to-follow, memorable tune. The lyrics were completely redone to fit Carolina, detailing her natural beauty and the tenacity of her people. The instrumental was professionally made, containing orchestral instruments instead of synthesized beeps. The anthem was a relief to hear about the generic, repetitive, or just annoying submissions. Marcus could visualize the song as a national anthem.

He checked the credits for the song, only to find it was created by a couple from Greenville, Midlands: Brayan and Alaysia McPherson. Both were talented in composition and music production. If their anthem were to be chosen in the referendum, they would certainly be paid handsomely. After confirming his approval within the document, Marcus left his first and only comment: "make sure that this is put into the final standing."

Meanwhile, unbeknownst to Marcus, the national flag committee had already chosen their top flag submissions to be decided in the referendum. The cornucopia flag, while visually appealing, was certainly becoming associated with a very dark era in the country's history. Because of this, a flood of legitimate attempts at a redesign had flooded through the committee's inbox. They were prepared for this and gathered a much larger committee than the other referendum committees since flags were easy to make. Many of the flags had been modest attempts from a variety of age groups: some being elementary schoolers and some being senior citizens. But the one most liked by the majority of committee members was designed by a high school freshman in Winston-Salem, Piedmont. That student's name was Adrienne Herman, a student at the National College of the Arts high school program.

It was a tri-color flag with red, navy blue, and white vertical bands in that order. In the center was a golden sabal palmetto tree, with a matching 5-point star towards the top left of the band. The colors were from the state flag of North Carolina, while the palmetto tree was a design aspect taken from the state flag of South Carolina, with the accompanying five-point star taking the place of the gorget in that flag. The five-point star represents the five original provinces of Carolina: Appalachia, Piedmont, Tidewater, Midlands, and Indigo. The sabal palmetto became a common symbol representing Carolina, which was prevalent in many of the submitted designs. But the unique arrangement of the tri-colors and the inclusion of such an iconic symbol of the Carolinas made the flag a very popular submission amongst the committee members. It was named the Palmetto Banner and would be featured among 5 other top submissions in the referendum.
