National Great Hall of Beijing, China

    | The Presidency and the Five Yuans |

Corruption has plagued China since the hundred years of humiliation. Stability was but a dream for the people of China. Though a working government is at least one step closer to totalitarianism stability.

The establishment of the Executive Yuan, the Legislative Yuan, Judicial Yuan, Examination Yuan, and the Control Yuan. There was also the National Security Council and the Office of the President. Which are all led and controlled by the President.

The Hu Tai Government leads a bit of a majority over the Pan-Blue Coalition though divided control between them and the Green’s and Blue’s.

Radical reforms is what the nation shall be undergoing to rid of radical elements along with competitors for the presidential seat.

Many of these reforms are to undo CCP policies. A few being. . .

      National Reproduction Act

TLDR: Incentivizes people to have children via welfare programs and distributing payment via amount of children under parental care. This also incentivizes adopting children in orphanages and under the care of the government.

      National Remobilization Plan

TLDR: Plan to invest in reconstructing and improving war-torn infrastructure and industries and to nationalize these industries that will transition into private industries when the local economy of the region improves.

      National Reassignment Program

TLDR: A program to transition veteran militias of the Chinese Civil War into proper soldiers of the Republic of China. To better equip and train them for war.

These reforms are considered to be Hu Tai Thoughts or her three reforms, known as the A.P.P. These aimed to bolster but also hide what goes underneath the programs.

In the hopes to eliminate her competitors, she promotes those aligning to her goals and demotes those that are against, even going as far as to imprison them, through the Reassignment Program and Remobilization Plan. Along with imprisoning those that are deemed ‘harmful’ or ‘rebellious’ with the intention of bringing down China into darkness.

    | Tsonese Accommodation |

It was a quaint evening, the sun was rising and the day was beginning, two armed ROC guards were guarding the doors of the Tsone delegation team. A member of the Chinese Government knocked on the door and being given permission entered the room.

Member of the ROC Gov.: “Your request has been heard by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, we shall relocate you and your baggage along with security details to Jinan, it’s about a 4 hour trip from here Beijing. You shall be staying at the Kempinski Hotel or if you want something in between, the Scholar Hotel. Or something very low priced, the GreenTree Inn.” He says. It would be up to them to decide, though all the locations will be within Jinan. Far away from Beijing, the political capital.

Reason for this was hidden by the President and the Minister of Foreign Affairs. Though given Beijing was going to be put under lockdown after the Tsonese delegation leave and be put under burden through a series of unwarranted arrests, trails, and perhaps executions. Many aimed at political opponents within the Government to lower areas of the government who have dealings with higher members of the ROC government.

Hu Tai: “Have the guests been relocated?”

Shi Yin: “Yes ma’am, they have, they won’t be a thorn to your back now that they have been relocated to Jinan.”

Hu Tai: “Good, we can proceed with the Anti-Corruption Campaign,”

Shi Yin: “I must ask though, they’ve made it a bit aware that their nation is in anarchy, a civil war, why not involve ourselves in it?”

Hu Tai: “Would it look good on the media to send Chinese troops or equipment through the Pacific and to South America?” she says, “It will look bad if us, an Asian nation, takes upon responsibilities and aid South American nations militarily, I shall stray from Intervening in other nations or continents matters. The West can go at it as they like though when it comes to the matters of Asia, it is China that shall keep the peace, we aren’t gonna be like the Americans and spread our forces far and wide just for the sake of being a world police.”

Shi Yin: “I see, so what’s the plan then,”

Hu Tai: “Reclaim what we lost, unite the five races under one flag. So far our nation has been divided up with Manchuria being occupied by the Koreans, Mongolia still clinging to Inner Mongolia as much as they can, Turkic Union having to ‘liberate’ Xinjiang, along with Tibet gaining Independence after the fall of the PRC. We shall reclaim what the Qing Empire lost to those Western Imperialists and Communists, though before we do we must consolidate our resources and power so as we don’t face opposition,” she explains, “If the Tsone Government-in-exile reaches out for aid, send them monetary aid, no weapons, no bullets, no vehicles, no manpower, no nothing. Understood?”

Shi Yin: “Yes ma’am,” he says as he bows to her.

Hu Tai: “Though I think we must meet with the Arabian powers, such as Al-Mashriq (Luako) for oil and gas, along with access. through the Suez Canal, it will greatly benefit our economy, I would want you to send a message that we will be a possible and future trade partner with their Arab Socialist Republic,”

Shi Yin: “Very well ma’am, I shall get to it. Though you may face opposition from within our government or by members of the International Community for meeting with a socialist leader,”

Hu Tai: “I shall deal with those accordingly,”

Dear President Yasser Hakim,

Greetings from the East, I am Minister Yin, Minister of Foreign Affairs for the Republic of China, it is my pleasure to inform you that Her Excellency wishes to either travel to Cairo or invite you to a dinner in Shanghai. This meeting is to establish diplomatic ties with the Republic of China and the Socialist Arab Republic. While ideologically and politically we differ and are not the People’s Republic of China, we will be willing to improve ties with our nations,”

Sincerely,
Minister Shi Yin

As Yong and Yuxin prepared for their departure they took extra time and effort to tidy up the hotel room where they had stayed for such a long time. A gratuitous amount of documents, sensitive information, and classified data is also within their possession, although related to Tsonese the domestic situation, something that the Chinese Government must never know. These documents would be turned into a slurry of water and paper and dumped somewhere else in the compound. Yong and Yuxin would take a small cigarette break as the assistants that the Chinese government provided are transferring the other documents, files and computers they have used into the armored van that they will be taking to Tsinan.

Yong: So have you heard lately what's happening?

Yuxin: The Eightfold Path?

Yong: The what? I meant here in China.

Yuxin: No I haven't.

Yong: The Dragon itself is rumbling and shivering, the sun chases down to the sky as it fears the dragon's wrath.

Yuxin would look at him with a very confused face, riddles and parables have been Yong's staple lately and have been annoying Yuxin the past few months they have been together. He shakes his head as he looks up to the sky to notice a helicopter at breakneck speeds as well as Fighter Jets being scrambled within the air, he thinks its just another military exercise, although strange to be doing it above the capital city. As the final preparations are at head, they thank the assistants for their help as this will be the final time they will be seeing them as they will be on their own in Tsinan once the armored van arrives there with them...

As they cruise upon the G3 Expressway (京台高速公路/G3) They would begin to notice peculiar things as they get further from the city. Rows of tanks, armored vehicles and multiple checkpoints. Their van doesn't get stopped due to their status as an Exiled-Government as well as a Diplomat by trade. Yuxin would attempted to ask questions to the driver but would only get a standard, "It is not of your concern, you will remain safe." as if they're hiding something, which of course they are for the safety of them. Yuxin would place his hand on Yong's shoulder and just signals him to not continue further. Yong would receive a phone call from one of his informants within Tsone. As all communications between Tsone and the outside world has been cut, there are only a few places to get information and that is through underground means and/or an already established network between a Tsonese diplomat in Patagonia through another Tsonese living elsewhere to make the call.

Yong: Speaking... I understand...

The call would end abruptly as they pass through a tunnel, Yong uttering an exclamatory.

Yong: There have been rumors... that the GMG have split into two factions of differing doctrines, but ultimately the same framework... The White Thousands and the Red Gate Group. The other one is more of a bandit state at this point whilst the other is just straight up genocidal freaks... Another thing.

Yong would begin speaking in their own local dialect of Tsonese that Yuxin shares with him as they were both born at the same province.

Yong: The Japanese have been concerned on our sudden disappearance as we had planned out an economic pact with them. They would promise reconstruction efforts and aid if we denounce China's actions, they never specified whatever these "Chinese actions" are but Im feeling its something related to the sudden military build up we've been seeing the past few weeks.

Yuxin: I don't think we are in position to denounce the Chinese government Yong. We're literally an exiled government and we are pretty good considering we are at their limit of their good graces. Tell the Japanese to stay put for the mean time until the time is right... Unless we return back to Tsone.

Yong: As much as I like to return to Tsone to show solidarity and support, we have to serve as the mouthpiece for the world. Tsone is radio silent.

Silence would fill the armored truck as the Chinese driver and the Tsonese diplomat would exchange glares through the mirror, hoping that he didn't understand a thing they said when they were speaking their local dialect... The entire trip would be smooth sailing till an hour later they would arrive at an undesignated nor notified checkpoint. Gear unfamiliar to the driver as he begins looking at the guards with glasses standing by with a van. The driver would stop and would roll down the window asking whats happening and who they are. The typical response of a safety checkpoint. One of the guards would come over to the side of the passenger and would look at them while Yong looked back... Something feels off about the whole thing.

Yuxin: DRIVER GET US OUT OF HERE!

Tires smoke and burn the ground as the car accelerates in a hurry, so called Guards would shoot at the armored van with one of them penetrating the rear windshield breaking it. Fortunately the other parts of the car is armored and they would remain safe. A pursuit would occur with the false guards hurrying up in a black van and would begin firing at them with automatic rifles whilst avoiding civilian traffic as the driver attempts to tail them off.

Yong: What the hell? What's going on? Godammed did the GMG reach here just to get us?

Yuxin: How the hell do I know? It might be the Chinese government for all we know and the driv-

The driver would be shot and instantly die forcing the armored van to veer off to the right, Yong would immediately launch himself to the middle of the car and would attempt to steer it back to the center, wobbling and attempting to dodge the other cars and the bullets whistling around his head and the car. His mind is having a tunnel vision as his eyes are on the road, not caring if the blood of the driver is on his face and his corpse, fresh out of life blocking half of the controls and the view.

Yuxin: Godammit!

Yong: Shut the hell up and help me tail them off!

Yong would grab the pistol that the driver had and would begin to fire aimlessly at the van at their general direction. Yong would still be able to drive safely as an expressway exit presents itself and would steer to the right, hitting the barrier almost launching themselves off the road. The chase would continue under the expressway as more cars are in the area. Yuxin would attempt to aim for the wheel of the pursuing van but would fail as the sudden turn done by Yong would launch the pistol off his hand down to the passenger seat again. A bullet would puncture one of the wheels of the armored van after sustained fire and the armored van, with Yong and Yuxin in it, would veer left to the barrier, flipping and would ultimately crash at a closed shop. Fortunately no one was inside that shop as the crash happened. Time would momentarily stop for Yong as his perception is altered from the sudden rush of adrenaline and the sudden g-forces hitting him.

He is bleeding and so is Yuxin, unconscious but still breathing yet heavily bleeding after a bar of metal would impale him on the side of the stomach. Yong would crawl towards Yuxin as his legs are broken from the crash, sitting against the wall examining the wound. It seems to have fortunately hit a non-essential spot, grazing in between the Stomach and liver. Breathing hard and phasing in and out of consciousness he would begin trying to wake up Yuxin despite his injuries. He is unsure if the people that were following them have finally left.

All that Yong can do currently is hope for the best, and hope is what Tsone needs.

      Tiananmen Square, China

    | National Pride & Spirit |

Tiananmen Square was where the President held the first military parade in Tiananmen Square, raising the flag of the Republic of China. Security as tight so as no funny business can occur and scramble the plans the President has set in motion.

All was well in China for those who are oblivious to what the government has been doing, foreign media has been allowed in Beijing along with domestic news reporting sites. Only asked to not wander to designated sites where classified military sites are for security reasons against those who are still loyal to the CCP.

F-CK-1 Ching-Kuo and UH-60 Black Hawk flew around while Brigades and military vehicles rolled out into the square with decorated and celebrated war heroes of the Civil War.

Thus it is where President Hu Tai shall give her speech to the nation. She goes on about the difficulties China has gone through in its history, the darkest and the toughest. And through it, the people have persevered even when disunited by ideology, race, and religion.

She goes onto state the dreams of a Chinese Unification. Through cooperation and mutual understanding of each other, China and the five races along with minorities shall prosper under a United Front.

Speech also considered bringing China back up and reversing the policies that the corrupt & immoral Communist Party of China had done and free the people of China from the shackles of the servitude of the CCP, its members, and corrupt ideology.

When all is said and done and she finishes her speech with her final remarks on recovering Chinese industry and prosperity. A one minute of silence was given to the people who were massacred by the PLA and the CCP who demonstrated against the government in hopes of liberalizing the economy and the government.

Then her Minister approached her and pulled her to the side. Remarking the events that had happened in Jinan.

As soon as they got the call, the Ambulance of a nearby hospital arrived at the scene along with the fire department and city police. Both Yuxin and Yong helped by firefighters and paramedics, they would have to be both stabilized before taken to the hospital.

Once stabilized they were taken to the Shangdong Provincial Hospital to undergo treatment and further diagnosis to see if there are any possible injuries or complications.

The driver was put in a zip bag and will undergo and autopsy while the scene was closed by the city police to do further investigations.

As this news hit the President, Hu Tai, Sun Cheng-Shiak, Shi Yin sat down in a private room.

Hu Tai: “So what are the condition of the exiles?”

Shi Yin: “As of this point they are stablized, though the driver is dead.“

Sun Cheng-Shiak: “Well, there goes one of our people, this constitutes as an attack on our people President, we should mobilize our troops and get troops to fight in Tsone, regardless of what the Tsonese delegation team here has to say, our men were killed by theirs, and therefore we must intervene to protect our national security,”

Hu Tai: “At ease Cheng-Shiak, we do not know who is involved or affiliated with the incident,”

Cheng-Shiak: “My sources have told me said information Madam President,”

Hu Tai: “What sources?” she says as she raises an eyebrow and leans towards Sun Cheng-Shiak.

Cheng-Shiak: “She is coming in about a moment,”

Hu Tai: “What!? You invited another person into the meeting without mentioning it to me!?”

Cheng-Shiak: “She is a good friend of mine, works within the National Security Council or NSC. Good with getting information from within the nation,” she says as a lady walks in, “Meet Minister Wen Yijun, Minister of Interior, apologies if it’s a bit sudden, I found her capable of being within the Ministry of the Interior

Wen Yijun: “It’s a pleasure to meet you Madam President,” she says with a formal bow, Hu Tai stayed quiet along with Shi Yin.

Cheng-Shiak: “Please, tell the President of what you know of,”

Yijun: “Information changed a bit since we last met Vice President, though my informants and colleagues suggest that both the remnants of the Chinese Communist Party and the Tsonese rebels have cooperated with each other to plan this attack, both gaining something, some instability and to slash the reputation of the ROC Government, and to finally put an end to the government-in-exile. We have a comprehensive list of suspects and people affiliated with the attack along with possible leads and people related to the CCP remnants, so if you can approve the go ahead we can get to work on it,”

Hu Tai: “You have my go ahead. Anyone affiliated with the CCP is a traitor that must never see the light of day.”

Yijun: “I would also recommend that we start putting soldiers and military police in Gansu, Qinghai, Ningxia, Shaanxi, Shanxi, and Hubei. These are areas where the CCP operate mostly so controlling those areas will be a priority for us. Along with heavily militarizing the border so that they won’t be able to trade contraband items and grow their power and wealth.”

Hu Tai: “I will speak to the Generals of the Army of that, thank you for sharing this information with me,”

Yijun: “No worries, if it’s not a problem with you, I would like that the NSC Interior Sector be able to cooperate with the Military Police and the Army so as operations can be jointly conducted and see a higher success and faster sweeping of the area rather than individual and independent sectors working without much cooperation.”

Hu Tai: “Sure, it makes sense that your sector should be able to cooperate with the Army and the MP, though nothing outside of that, anything beyond those regions is off limits and cooperation will only focus on taking down the warlords of North and West China,”

Yijun: “Understood, Madam President, I shall get to work then if there is nothing else to discuss, it is again a pleasure to meet you President and you too Vice President,” she says as she bows. Shi Yin felt disrespected by the Minister of the Interior for not acknowledging him.

Hu Tai: “Well she knows her stuff I must say,”

Cheng-Shiak: “Indeed, we cooperated with each other, she was in charge of recon and covert operations during the civil war, so she knows her way around and connections,”

Hu Tai: “I see, well if there isn’t anything else to discuss, I shall get the army ready to move a few more resources to North and South China,”

Cheng-Shiak: “What about Tsone shouldn’t we pressure them to get more involved in their Civil War?”

Hu Tai: “As far as I’m concerned it’s the CCP being the middle man, the Tsonese can deal with their problems,”

Cheng-Shiak: “Fine, I guess,” she says with a bit of an attitude as they both bowed to each other. Hu Tai left and it was only Shi Yin and Sun.

Cheng-Shiak: “Can’t believe the people elected her, I was so close to winning, and she can’t even lift a finger on foreigners who meddle in China and squash them, how the hell will China survive!?” Shi Yin didn’t talked as Sun ranted, “Well, what’s your opinion on her Shi Yin? Since I see you two together a lot more than me and her.

Shi Yin: “What? It’s mostly just Tsone and business, Hu Tai believes that it’s best to maintain good reputation within the world whilst trying to stabilize China and help it grow after the Civil War.

Cheng-Shiak: “And you think allowing foreigners to meddle in our lands will help ‘stabilize’ China?”

Shi Yin: “Will help not be seen as some world police like the Americans,”

Cheng-Shiak: “Fine I guess, I see your point of view, though when the crows get you first, you’ll beg and wished that we could’ve dealt with them first,”

Shi Yin: “What the fudge do you mean?” he says a bit confused as Cheng-Shiak left the room, leaving him a bit confused.

Prime Minister Olaf Schulz sat in his office, reading through the recent jobs reporting. Despite the sudden coup years ago, the sudden systematic change in government, and the return of the mark currency, the German economy was proving to be a resilient beast as it always had. He couldn’t help but smirk a bit. Never bet against the German people, something he had said plenty of times before and something he proved right.

Still, people outside of Germany were understandably wary. Why go to all the trouble of reestablishing the Kaiser, the same figure head who ruined Germany years ago after the end of World War I? Well, Germany’s arrogance back then cost them everything and he, as the official head of state, would not make that same mistake. Still, now was the time to reestablish diplomatic ties.

His first thoughts turned to the Scandinavian Confederation. They were practically neighbors and both of them were, in a way, new established countries. An alliance between the two of them would certainly get people talking. With that in mind, he began writing a letter.

To Prime Minister Vidvei of Bucksden,

These past few years have seen many changes to Northern Europe. Germany has gone back to its Imperial roots while former Norway, Sweden, and Denmark have reunited into the Scandinavia of old. With that all said, I believe both our countries would benefit from a diplomatic partnership.

If you are interested, I would be delighted to meet you, anywhere of your choosing and perhaps we can strengthen our ties and help steer Europe into a new direction. I’ll be looking forward to your response.

Sincerely,
Prime Minister Olaf Schulz of the German Empire

The Eagle and the Lions

There was a certain poetry in Germany wishing to reestablish diplomatic contact at this moment in time.

It had been about two months since the 9th of April, 2040, the day that marked a century passing since the beginning of Operation Weserübung, the invasion of Denmark and Norway by German forces during the Second World War. The 9th of April had gone down in Scandinavian history as the beginning of one of the bleakest periods the peninsula had experienced, where their independence and integrity had been trampled by an oppressive and aggressive outside force. A period that left scars that, even now, a hundred years on, hadn't entirely healed.

Of course, the Germany of today was quite different from the one that had invaded back then. The republic that had formed after the two German halves got to unite had remained somewhat stable as a power player in European politics, and as a trade partner (and occasional backpacking destination) for many nations, including the constituents of the Confederation in the north. Their peace, fueled by economic deals and networks, was not too much of a stable one, however, and Russia dealt the killing blow to it when it invaded Ukraine in 2022.

From there, it was a downward spiral for Germany, as the EU fractured and other major partners fell apart, until the military made their move, and reinstated a Kaiser. A move that could only bode well. Now, as it turns out, it has actually boded somewhat well so far, and Kristian had to admit as much. He wasn't a big fan of the whole military-monarchist-coup thing, but as a way of getting the German nation out of its rut, it had worked. And now he was faced with the fact that this new German Empire was interested in "steering Europe into a new direction", with Scandinavia.

Didn't sound like too bad of a deal, honestly. Quite a powerful ally to have.

To Prime Minister Schulz of the German Empire, and to anyone else whom this letter may unintentionally regard,

You are right that Europe's political landscape has changed radically. I shall not state my personal opinion on your transition back into an Empire, but they do not change that a partnership between our two respective nations would be most beneficial, and something that my government is keen on bringing to fruition, much as yours likely is.

So, suffice it to say, I am quite interested in having this meeting. And as a gesture of goodwill, I will suggest somewhere in Berlin as the location.
The specifics of that, however, are likely best left up to you.

Until you are able to decide on such, I will look forward to your response eagerly. I hope this proves to be a good decision.

With good regards,
Prime Minister Kristian Fridtjof Vidvei of the Scandinavian Confederation.

I must compel you to see our embassy in America be settled at a faster pace than currently being followed. Likewise, I expect your office to cordially express to the American state department our desire to see their embassy be settled quickly as well. God knows how long we have before these ventures become a bottom priority for both of our executives.

Lack of Trust

Rumours of unknown origin spread from some levels of Turkic politics, in this rumours there can be found claims about Turkic uneasiness about Chinese authorities complete lack of cooperation with the warlords terrorist activities and also taking offense in the Chinese lack of trust in Turkic own efforts in cutting off any possible profit route the warlords could set up on the nation claiming the movements in the frontier of unnecessary at best and malicious at worst.
A minor discomfort was took in the lack of any prior communication about the remilitarization of their current borders.
Private media agencies also point out the unfortunate truth that China has not been doing a good job handling its internal affairs with the warlords, risking foreigner lives due to their long lasting incompetence, taking years to end their terrorist problems and finding odd about the Chinese lack of trust.

The sheer Isolation of this city has made it into a fortress of impenetrable defense. Hakozaki is one of the last few major cities to not be overrun by the Godless Militant Group and because of this, local ambitious people have taken the chance to rise to power under their banner and claims to be the only true legitimate government within the Tsonese Anarchy. As National Reclamation Forces are bogged down in many cities across Tsone whilst gaining ground at the southern coasts. This Hakozaki borne militia would be under a red banner, claiming that the Godless Militant Group are radical revisionists, who bleed upon the workers and laborers of the a faithful nation for a lost and false cause. Of course all of these so called "Revolutionary Ideals" are just mere ploys as the head of this so called "Tsonese Liberation Front" is a drug cartel leader who has been under the radar for so long due to the sheer isolation of the cities situated within the Andes.

Within New Piura, a sect of already well-known ultra-orthodox buddhists would find this entire catastrophe a message or a sign for them. The greatest war after all is peace, and they have lost. These militant buddhists have taken up arms to defend their rights, their beliefs and ultimately as a sacrifice for the greater good. Despite this Buddhist front, they are internally divided. Those who only see their militant and violent cause as the last and ultimate action to save themselves and the people of Tsone and the other seeing this anarchy as the path to the destruction of "Dukha" and that this militantness of theirs is simply the "right action" to the response of their "karuna" the compassion of seeing others suffer. They will eliminate those who have wronged the meek and just people of Tsone for they bear the banner of The Eightfold Path

Near the border and gaining weapons, information and finance, The Northern Provisional Government has promised to the Columbian government that once this anarchy is over, they will give great concessions and rights to many of the Colombian companies that used to have business within Tsone. Half of the staff of this so called "Legitimate Provisional Government" are Colombian advisors and the Tsonese majority are left upon as clerks and or managerial members. They do not want to liberate Tsone for the betterment of its citizens, they want to lbierate Tsone for the betterment of Colombia seeing as the anarchy has reached to a tipping point.

Following approval from Parliament, Patagonia has decided to throw its hat into the game and bring an end to the Tsonese Civil War which many think to could lead to further destabilizing of the continent. This has become even more apparent following the arrest and execution of Godless Militant Group sympathizers who were caught burning down churches in rural Northern Patagonia.

From his northern estate in Achilleion, the Doge along with his chiefs of staff and Tsonese contacts have concocted a plan to bring an end to this war and eliminate the bloodthirsty GMG.

The government has already chosen to supply the NRA, the TLF and the OFP with a steady stream of HIMARs, NLAWs, Javelins, Stingers and Drones which will have the dual effect of helping our allies and boosting the military industrial complexe. A further 120k troops are reported to have been mobilized and ready to be sent to the front lines as well along with naval and aerial support. The Army of the Vosporo will link up with the NRA in the south via rail links with allied Peru-Bolivia were as the Army of the Morea will be transported by the Pacific fleet to launch an amphibious assault on Jurong. The current objective is to secure the cities of Jurong, Hokazaki, Sahezhen and Maiyao. From there the situation will be reassessed.

With everything that had been going on recently, it was clear that Marcus had been greatly affected mentally. A new surge of alt-right activity came about because of the complete removal of anything memorializing the confederacy (apart from graveyards) was removed entirely from public spaces. Groups such as the Ku Klux Klan, the League of the South, and skinheads lamented the initiative and the influx of Black migrants across North America, which inevitably led to hate crimes in rural areas and death threats to Marcus Osborne and his family.

Externally, Carolina still had her fair share of issues to address despite being relatively isolationist. The American Junta was beginning rounds of fear tactics. This included surveillance planes flying into Carolinian airspace, new fortifications being set at the border, and a steady stream of sanctions. In addition, the department of Foreign Affairs had begun negotiating with Patagonia-araucania to funnel some of the Tsonese refugees into the country to make the influx of people more manageable. Marcus wasn't even sure if it was safe for them in Carolina at the moment.

Naturally, the conservatives were up his ass about everything daily. They believed he had bitten off more than he could chew. As much as he hated to admit it, they might've had a point, even if that point was vastly blown out of proportion by his opponents. If anything, his measures still increased the quality of life within the country, at the cost of his mental health. Marcus had been so stressed that he forgot to bathe and feed himself. Even now, he could only think about his job.

"You like the view?" Kiah's voice cooed. He turned towards the balcony door to see his wife in an untied hotel bathrobe. Truly a sight for sore eyes. She came and sat on his lap. He did miss being in her presence alone, undistracted.

Kiah had convinced him and the Palmetto Mansion that their President needed a vacation. And although that vacation was in Myrtle Beach, it was still surprisingly nice. Growing up in what used to be South Carolina, Myrtle Beach was always considered a joke of a city, only associated with white trash parties and tacky tourist traps. Yet the city has leaned into its tackiness, becoming integral to its identity. He even got himself a T-shirt with the text "Keep Myrtle Beach tacky!" written out entirely in comic sans. Brilliant.

"How are you feeling?" Kiah asked, rotating her body perpendicular to his so she could see his face.

"I'm doing fine. Surprisingly I don't hate it here."

"You always doubt me! I knew Myrtle Beach was popping."

Kiah smiled proudly. She had lived in Atlanta most of her life, so he could see why she wasn't familiar with Myrtle Beach's infamy. Still, he meant what he said.

"We only have until August 2nd. What else did you want to do while we were here?" Marcus asked.

"I did want to play mini golf... until I realized we don't have the kids here. So now I'm not sure what else."

Marcus attempted to peer down at the beach below them. It was nearly midnight, so it was nearly empty, apart from a few teenagers dicking around.

"How about we go for a swim in the ocean?" he asked.

"Earlier, you didn't want to do that. You called it a security risk." she reminded him. She lifted an eyebrow while smiling her toothy smile.

"It is. But it's late, it's dark, and nobody's out there. I'm sure the secret service wouldn't mind hanging out on the beach with us."

Kiah kissed him and stood up. "Only for, like, 10 minutes. I'm tired."

"Gotcha."

She went back into the hotel suite to change while Marcus stared into the endless dark ocean. It was peaceful. Perhaps, he should do this more often.

Mr. President,

Enclosed is a dossier written up by the South American Office we believe should be more than adequate in bringing you up to speed on the Tsonese situation and the activities of Patagonia. As you have been informed, they have committed fully to ending the conflict and their involvement in the civil war poses consequences, agreeable or disagreeable, to their nation. As for the region, the results will be more impactful, and we won’t be without feeling of it. I conversed with the Commerce and Defense department to inquire if we can minimize the risk of injury to our vessels and sailors on the western coast from any action at sea. Transcripts of our conversations and suggestions are inside.

More importantly, before communications in the capital were stalled, I managed to relay your instructions to Ambassador Genet to secure our embassy and gave him full authority to evacuate if need be. He expressed his wishes to stay with the staff and detachment of Guards. He has confidence his location won’t be the subject of accidental or deliberate attack, and has urged Mordusian tourists and students in Tsone to assemble at the location in all due haste. In the event the Ambassador sees the necessity of evacuation, the embassy in Gran Columbia is prepared to harbor them.

If Patagonia achieves a position of adjudication following the conclusion of this war, we will possibly need to reshape our policy towards not only Patagonia, but South America as a whole. Difficult as it was to establish unexceptional relations with Tsone it may be more difficult to establish a new relationship with Patagonia, a dictatorship high off of recent intervention. We’ve traditionally avoided avid communication with their leadership (with the exception of a minor trade deal some years ago) but if Mordusian interests are at risk of harm in this war or if we stand to gain from their success, we should seriously consider opening a channel with the Doge.

A confidant of our office currently residing in Carolina has heard word of negotiations between their Foreign Affairs department and Patagonia to address what he could only describe as “refugee matters”. Nothing specific and nothing concerning, but I will keep you informed if news events transpire.

In service,
Secretary Hughes

Debris and the rattling of walls and roofs make the job of filling out paperwork more difficult. Yuxin now the de facto and de jure head of state of Tsone has begun enacting multiple laws, agreements, contracts and other operations in order to safeguard the totality of the nation. Yuxin and Yong left China some few weeks after the incident in Tsinan and promised to never return to China in order to not cause any more incidents. Before they left, they managed to hold a short and brief ceremonial handshake of friendship with the Chinese government, with Yuxin shaking the hang of Cheng-Shiak, ultimately turned into a frame photo beside his desk. Other than a love interest turned into ashes due to being embroiled in war he’d rather focus on his own nation rather than the leader of another nation. “I don’t like any of these contracts with the big wigs from Patagonia, but even then it isn’t as bad as what the Colombians want and the so called Northern Provisional Government” He sighs as he looks out of the window in Chiclayo, as the skies embroiled in gunfire, explosions and planes from all sides.

As the nation of Tsone continues to embroil itself in a destructive civil war, it is finally beginning to reconnect with its partners across the continent and across the world. An all encompassing letter has been given to most of the nations that their citizens of their nation are safely in their hands as a majority of them fled southwards to the City of Hekou, the only city that did not have any major GMG attacks or ambushes. With the Nantian High Speed Line cut off, it is unknown of the situation within the northern parts of Tsone and furthermore asking for the Northern Provisional Government to deal with the rescue operations of their own side in regards to foreigners within the country. The Eightfold Path, a militant Buddhist group has incorporated themselves within the National Reclamation Army with complete autonomy acting as their own special forces group whilst the red is reassigned to various positions and regiments. As the other forces get close to Nantian, the resistance becomes even more stronger and difficult to traverse.

Endless jungles and unreasonable terrain has been used to the advantage of both the GMG and the other forces that are present within the country. Naval invasions have also been planned but logistically a very difficult task to pull off and would greatly alarm the GMG as there have been cases of espionage and sabotage on both sides.

Yong would come into the room, almost tripping as another explosion shakes the building. “Hate this crap.” As he recently lost his legs from the incident in Tsinan, he is currently wearing advanced prosthetic legs capable of emanating human action and reaction, although still imperfect due to it being a prototype.

Yong: “Got a new report of the situation, informants K3, K9 and L2 have been captured and executed by the Northern Provisional Government whilst M8 and E2 hasn’t been found out by the GMG. We’re getting operational clashes with the Tsonese Liberation Front so we have to properly conduct a high-level meeting with them before they act as another contender to this already messed up civil war.”

Yuxin: “Well, what about the Amazonian front?”

Yong: “Slow but progress is being made, it’s a jungle after all. Unfortunately the rebels just cut the rails from Sanhezhen and Quilago, effectively trapping their own forces in Sanhezhen at the same time. NRA with help from the Patagonians have successfully captured Meiyao are now pursuing toward Sanhezhen.”

Flipping through papers and exchanging tablets and others, a sniper would miss Yong by a few inches and a firefight begins outside. Both Yuxin and Yong would drop down for cover.

Yuxin: “Didn’t know you were’ important enough to be a target for the bastards.”

Yong: “I’m literally godammed secretary, Im not sure why either.”

As the firefight continues, the briefing continues just behind the walls and desks. As Yuxin cocks his handgun and looking outside from time to time, Yong would be leaning against the wall reading and scanning the papers.

Yong: “Well while we’re being shot here, I might as well continue… The Northern Provisional Governemnt made some significant advances last month but are now ultimately at a stalemate. GMG are now capturing more and more Northern Provisional supplies and doing raids on it and some of them said have been able to steal an MBT. I mean they had MBTs beforehand, ours, but theirs was a bit more low tech so they were able to use it immediately… Ergh… Informants are planning a huge counterattack on us in a few weeks time but we might as well be prepared right now… Our 8th Artillery Mountain Battalion got ambushed on the way to one of their firing positions, 3 of the HIMARs that have been given to us by Patagonia have been destroyed and the 2 rest have been captured. We’ve sent a retaliatory team to destroy the HIMARs if its not possible to retake them.”

Yuxin: “How is our COSAP-Platforms?”

Yong: “Performing as good as the HIMARs although a little bit expensive to use since we cant produce any more of the rockets, they’re only used as area denial rather than precision strikes. The Tsonese Liberation Front have most of the operational COSAPs and have used it against the GMG properly. I think we can leverage our position to reacquire the Continuous Saturation Platforms… Just a matter of how…

Yuxin: “We’re also preparing a Two-Prong attack on the forces that cut off Jurong and New Piura, GMG caught us off-guard when we managed to form a supply line that stretches from Hekou. Army Vosporo and Army Medea have rendezvoused in Jurong before that and are now actually retaking lost land faster than expected. We’ve also received reports of the disuse of the captured MBTs and IFVs by the GMG after the arrival of the NLAWs and Javelins and now start using cheap technicals from the amount of civilian vehicles scattered around. Without current pace, we’ll be retaking Nantian in about 2 months.

Yong: “That’s good to hear...”

While they were focused so much on the briefing, they just realized that the firefight has ended. They would go back to their respective works while also notifying the Air Force to prepare for saturation strikes in coordination with the forces in Jurong and New Piura and contacting and delegating the coordination of new operations and a consolidated front with the NRA, Patagonian Forces and the TLF.

OPERATION EQUATOR - PT.2
PALAZZO SAN MARCO | Oshovia, Terra de Fuoco | Patagonia-araucania
July 2040

On the Grand Loggia of the Palazzo San Marco, the Doge and his inner circle were quite content. The Patagonian intervention in the Tsonese Civil War has started showing the fruits of its labour after only a few weeks. Patagonian soldiers of the Army of Morean have gained much ground with their NRA allies. The influx of Patagonian weapons and training has taken the GMG by surprise and the front has been pushed further north with Sanhenzen, Meiyao and Huaraz being reclaimed by the legitimate government of Tsone. The efforts of the Pacific Fleet and the Army of Vosporo have been another success with the capture of all coastal territories and their ports south of Jurong. This has been a massive blow to the atheist insurrectionists. The Patagonians will continue training their allies in the use of their weapons as more and more continue to arrive and be deployed on the front lines. The Army of Vosporo will continue to secure the Jurong-Hekou-Hakozaki Triangle to drive out the GMG dogs and link up with the NLA. Orders have been sent not to engage with this third contender in the war until the Provisional Tsonese government sits down with NLA leaders to work out whether they are friend or foe.

Another cause for celebration is the offer of possible refugee relief by the Carolinians and Mordusians. While all refugees are welcomed in Most Serene Republic, the massive influx has definitely put a strain on the system with reports of overcrowding in the social housing blocks designated to host the refugees. This aid has been much appreciated and the first airlifts towards Charlotte scheduled to take off within the coming days. The Doge has sent bottles of wine and brandy from his private vineyard and distillery in Viña del Mar to President Marcus Osborne of New united carolinas and President Charles Lindbergh of Mordusville as token of appreciation.

NATIONALISM GROWS
CINCINNATI | STATE OF OHIO | REPUBLIC OF COLUMBIA

"DOWN WITH THE DOGS!"

The final line of a Unionist Party Rally in Cincinnati rang true throughout the crowd. The thousands there cheered and clapped at a Junta flag was burnt in a seemingly ceremonial flame. The Unionists were known for their radical nationalism and dreams of a united North America under the control of Columbia, though for the time being they were perfectly content hating the Junta with all their hearts, the Junta proving a useful distraction to be utilized by the more sane right wing parties such as the Conservatives and Republicans to make themselves look better. Though in scenes like these it seemed that the Junta's imperialist tendencies came lose. Unionist banners flew side by side with Columbian flags while people chanted "Hail Columbia!" at the top of their lungs. To the average Columbian this would be a display of the most intolerable form of political persuasion but to many who view the President's lack of a declaration of war on the Junta represented an inherent weakness within the larger parties. Their seemingly inability to push for re-unification under Albany over Denver or any other American Capital represented a cardinal sin to their movement.

Thankfully like with every election the Unionists were polling as the lowest in the matchup, though with the election closing in it has been noted that they have seen a spike, polling at their highest ever so far with an average of 5.6% support on RealClearPolitics and New Columbia Polling, the largest of the nations polling aggregate sites. This shift has put them neck and neck with the Libertarians for last place, the two parties holding exact opposite opinions on a potential war between the Junta and Columbia. President Dunleavy meanwhile gave a short and clear reply to the rally, stating that "To be a real leader you must show restraint, my fear is the lack of it within Unionist Leadership."

Regardless it is clear that the election is going to be interesting as states such as Maine and New York see growth in their state level Unionist Parties, including a strong showing in the mayoral race of a medium sized New England city of Manchester, the capital of New Hampshire, where they got second place to the incumbent Republican mayor. Some have speculated that the party has been receiving funding from the Junta themselves to be strong overzealous opposition to keep Columbia distracted and unwilling to go to war. This possibility though has been blasted by Unionist Leaders themselves calling it "propaganda of the weak."

TENSIONS GROW BETWEEN COLUMBIA AND THE JUNTA

Revelations that the Junta had been sending reconnaissance planes over the other nations of the continent, including that of the Republic of Carolina (New united carolinas), had sent Columbian military forces into a frenzy. Along with this the recent total embargo placed on all Junta goods by the Dunleavy Administration has seriously increased tensions between the two as now not even food and/or medicine were allowed to cross the border into the Junta, something which according data collected by the Government would have serious repercussions within the Junta due to a seeming medicine shortage for civilians in the nation. The move to restrict medicine and food was called out by the Working Families Party which called it an "egregiously overzealous and harmful move" by Columbia. Though Defense experts and major players within the Republican and Conservative Parties supported the move as a "necessary step to force the Junta towards peace".

Within the same week that all this was happening a reconnaissance plane was caught flying over the border from Junta territory, Columbian anti-air defenses shot down the plane, the plane exploding in the sky and landing over the empty forests of central Illinois. This prompted a threatening response from the Junta who demanded to know why the Columbian Government had shot down their plane instead of forcing it around. The Columbians came back demanding to know why they had sent a plane in the first place. President Dunleavy would make a televised statement to the world on this matter reading as so:

"In the last week we have seen another attempt by the Junta to impose their order over our liberty. At approximately three o'clock this morning a surveillance jet owned by the Junta was shot down over Central Illinois by anti-air defenses in the area stationed at the Peoria Military Compound. The fact that they had a jet so close to a large civilian area as well as it crossing our border in the first place shows us that the Junta is only looking to further the tension on this continent. This is a reminder to all nations, all peoples who call this continent home, that the Junta is not a rational player on the global stage. I call now on all nations across this continent to embargo the Junta entirely as we can no longer sit here and reward them for their cruelty and their demagoguery.

The Junta has also decided to go on the offensive against us and demands to know why we shot down their surveillance jet which was flagrantly breaking the 2027 Treaty that both our nations signed in Chicago. We will not allow the Junta to spy on our people, we will not allow the Junta any insight into our country, we will not allow the Junta to make our citizens feel unsafe or at threat. Let this be a final warning to the Junta, do not make a mistake that you will come to regret."

The words "final warning" sent alarm bells ringing across the national media, the Junta taking it as a threat of war in their response back but interestingly have yet to fire anything. The Office of the Presidency did come out with an official correction to the statement, stating that Columbia did not want war but it only wanted the Junta to stop provoking one. This was also met with scorn in the Junta with Marshall Eaton, the replacement for Trent, decrying it as an "attack on Junta Sovereignty" and has publicly now pushed the National Junta Government to allow for more troops to be allocated to the Columbia-Junta border.

FRIENDSHIP ADMIST THE TENSION

A notice would arrive at the office of the Presidency from none other than the leadership of their southern neighbors in the Republic of Carolina. The two republics held rather neutral relations towards one another until the last few years where after agreement between the two parties the Museum of African American History was moved from Potomac to Atlanta where it sits today. In its place sits The Potomac Civic Arts Plaza, a place regarded by locals as a cultural icon as yearly festivals and events take place in the large space.

Though in recent years it seems the two have been united more by the aggression of their western neighbor over anything else, culminating in an assassination attempt against President Dunleavy and the sending of a letter from Carolinian President Osborne, which would receive a response from President Dunleavy himself:

President Osborne,

It is a pleasure to hear from you and I thank you for your sympathies to myself and my family during this time. In regards to your call for greater diplomacy between our two nations I do think this is in our best interests, especially as the threats from the Junta only grow by the day. Without joint defense and protection no one is safe in my eyes. If you would prefer we could hold a joint summit in either of our nations to discuss possible plans. We could also include other nations who may feel as threatened as we are by the Junta's antics, though that is only if you agree upon it. I hope to hear back soon.

Best Regards,
President Ethan Dunleavy

The letter made it clear what the President wanted to do but also ensured that he wasn't pushing Carolina into something it couldn't or wouldn't do. It was now just in the hopes of Columbia that their fellow American Democracies hold the same feeling they do about their troublesome neighbor.

The young Marine outside of the office stood silent, his gaze fixed ahead, his body at trail arms with his shotgun. Though the office doors were of a thick mahogany, one would have to be near or totally deaf to not hear what was transpiring inside. Two voices could be heard by the Marine, that of the Secretary of State, and that of the Secretary of the Navy. What they were arguing about, he wasn't completely sure. He had just been put on shift. But evidently there was intense disagreement between the two, and strangely the president hadn't uttered a word.

First he heard the voice of Admiral Henry Imboden, the current Navy secretary. A young man of perhaps 35, standing at 6'3, with short red hair and 15 years of anti-piracy and anti-terrorist combat experience under his belt.

"We have more of a commitment to the safety of our sailors and merchants than we do profit, Mr. Secretary! Send them out now, with warning, and bloodshed will be avoided-"

Admiral Imboden was sharply cut off by a voice of mocking and demeaning tone. That of Anthony Hughes, the Secretary of State.

"Admiral, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to predict the repercussions of having nearly an entire fleet in the vicinity of a war zone and in the waters of nations at war with each other," he declared. "You seem to have in your head that because we have the most formidable navy in North America, its wise to thrust it into the middle of international conflict for the sake of showing off-"

"If you think my grave concern for the safety of our merchant vessels is merely a facade, I think it only fitting to think that you shy from action due to fear of profit loss and economic repercussion, not genuine interest in our national security."

The president's voice, finally, was heard.

"Enough, gentlemen. E-nough."

For three or four seconds there was silence, broken only by heavy footsteps, and then shattered by the bursting open of the mahogany doors with ferocious force. Both doors slammed against the walls of the doorway, almost popping off their hinges. The young Marine jumped a bit, but quickly composed himself. The president exited the doors, and five steps out into the small foyer, the president turned on his heels to address the two instigators. His face was flush red, his jaw clenched, his shoulders tensed. Extending his arm and pointer finger to the both of them, spoke once again in a firm and booming voice.

"For the rest of my administration I will not have differences of opinion accumulate to doubts of patriotism and duty between one or more of my staff-"

Upon seeing Secretary Hughes, distracted by a sizable dent on the doorway wall from the president's exit, the president grew indescribably angry.

"MR. HUGHES!"

The Secretary jumped, eyes wide. Never had the president yelled at anyone, for anything, ever. Admiral Imboden stood at attention.

"National security is put as risk more through both of your goddamn arguing than it is through the implementation of either of your ideas or plans! It's disgraceful, it's shameful, and enough to validate doubts about the integrity of this branch of government! I expect full cooperation from this point forward, and if I don't hear of it or see of it, I will expect letters of resignation!"

The two members stood in stunned silence, then bowed their heads in acknowledgement.

"Take different exits out of the building, and don't contact me until I request to be" the president said, his voice hoarse. Walking back into his office, he gently eased the doors shut.

With that, the three went separate ways, and the foyer fell quiet.

October 25, 2040

The past few months have been a progressive, albeit hellish week for the Osborne Administration. New urban planning requirements, environment protection, and the complete overhaul of tax brackets after Congress steamrolled bills through its doors. Marcus, joined by the Liberals and Labor Party members, voted as a bloc to pass most of his initiatives.

Currently, he had just finished speaking at a newly founded Bus manufacturing company, Birmingham Buses and Coaches (BB&C) Country’s first domestic bus manufacturer. Funded almost entirely by the federal government until it broke even, BB&C would not only aid in the country’s initiative to rapidly expand access to public transit, but also support the floundering economy of Alabama.

The departments of Transportation, internal affairs, treasury and the governors of Mississippi, Alabama, and Conecuh were negotiating ways to turn the three provinces into an industrial heartland. Birmingham was a city with a large, hard nose working class population that has been on an economic decline for decades now. It’s population had dropped from a peak of 340k in 1960, to hovering just over 100k in 2040, seeing population growth for the first time since the 70’s once the Black migration began. Now it would be a testing ground for the Osborne administration to plan certain aspects of certain city’s economies. BB&C’s first factory would open in the city, bringing an estimated 6700 jobs to the facility alone.

As the crowds dispersed, Marcus was conversing with the company’s CEO, Joshua Freeman, when an aide came to his side to whisper something in his ear. What he heard rocked him to his very core.

“Get me to the airport immediately.” Marcus said to his aide, who quickly called the limousine. If Marcus didn’t remediate this situation soon, things could get real ugly fast.

October 25, 2040 - 1 hour prior to President’s notification.

Memphis was a moderately sized city, and moderately sized cities don’t get many flights on Thursdays afternoons. Air Traffic Controller Pierce Gregory had gone from working at Miami-Dade international to Memphis international, so the change in pace was very much appreciated even if the airport itself was kind of garbage.

Memphis Approach, Columbian 743, requesting flight following to Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky.”

There was his que, yet another flight following.

“Columbian 743, proceed with the flight following to Cincinnati, stay on my frequency until you’ve left the airspace.”

“Roger that, Columbian 743”

Pierce sighed. The already slow traffic flow had been slowed to a trickle ever since the Americans severely limited the flights going in and out of the country, and they would almost never land in Memphis. In fact, the Americans had done more than just limit flights, but they jammed any radar waves going into American airspace, meaning that he couldn’t detect anything within the nation’s borders. Planes would appear and disappear seemingly in thin air, and communication would be immediately severed. Because Memphis’ airspace was so close to the border, it made regulating American flights hard, even if they were rare. Still, that was nothing compared to Miami.

Pierce very unprofessionally kicked back in his chair and observed his fellow ATC, who were evidently also bored out of their minds guiding a small number of aircraft buzzing around the airspace. Pierce could only wonder how much slower things would get when President Osborne improves train services around these parts.

All of a sudden, a new plane pops up on the radar, coming in from the American airspace. But it’s callsign was not the one for any American Airline he recognized. N-AL92 he read to himself. It looked like a General Aviation aircraft had accidentally crossed the border. Protocol says he has to turn them around.

But before he could say anything, the pilot of this mystery plane would say something absolutely bonechilling.

“Mayday! Mayday! Mayday! November- Alpha Lima to Memphis, we’re going down, It’s an Emergency!”

Pierce’s heart sank. This wasn’t a normal emergency landing. It was critical.

“Alpha Lima, this is Memphis approach, im with you. Whats the condition of your emergency?” Pierce asked. It was then everyone else in the ATC tower overheard his words, and immediately marked the plane for emergency status. All other aircraft were prevented from landing or taking off at Memphis.

“Both of our engines have gone out. They just- they’re on fire! They’ve exploded-we don’t know whats going on.”

“Alpha Lima, you are now on a dedicate frequency. I’m with you. How many souls are on Board?”

“We’re carrying- we’re carrying 20 souls. We need immediate clearance to land.”

“Emergency clearance granted. Do not panic, we’ll get you on the ground safe and sound.”

Pierce looked at the radar and to his absolute dismay, they were only 5000 feet above the ground and 15 nautical miles from the airport. They were just barely holding on.

Pierce looked at the tarmac and saw fire trucks already rolling out, prepared for the worst.

“You have immediate clearance for runway 18R, try to maintain your current until you’re 8 nautical miles from the airport.” Pierce said. He was sweating bullets. He went from sitting on his ass to being in a life or death situation in less than 2 minutes. Damn that horrible air space blocking!

“Our right aileron isn’t working properly, and we have very little elevator control. We’re going to need Runway 60!” the pilot responded.

Dammit. Of course… Pierce cursed. It was an underwing craft.

“Cleared for Runway 60. Is your gear operational?” Pierce asked.

“Affirmative.” The pilot said, muffled by the beeping of the emergency systems and the screams of the passengers. It was horrifying to listen to.

Pierce looked towards Runway 60 and could see a trail of smoke in the air. They were getting close.

“We have a visual on you. Keep her steady, stay on heading 60. Whats your speed?”

There was silence.

“What’s your speed??” Pierce asked more aggressively.

“We’re at- 143 knots, vertical - 300 meters per-“

It was looking bleak. Their chances of landing safely were slim. But there had to be something they could do.

“Stay calm, try to keep her nose steady. We have ground crew ready at Runway 60. You’re almost there.” Pierce reaffirmed.

All Pierce could hear were muffled shouts and yelling from the cabin crew.

“Memphis we’re at 900 feet, 5 nautical miles out.”

That was too low.

“TRY TO GLIDE HER IN” Pierce yelled frantically, not even bothering with the ATC jargon.

“We’re trying our best!” A different voice yelled amongst the commotion, presumably the First Officer.

“SH*T!” the captain yelled. There were so many warning sounds, that they blended together. But Pierce could only hyper focus on the sounds of struggle among the crew members.

“BRACE” yelled the captain, his voice distorted from the feedback. Pierce peeked out the window to see the plane barely gliding above ground towards the runway before quickly looking back at the radar. He was too scared to watch. Too scared to say anything else. Years of experience and training left his brain in an instant. This was the day he always feared.

“OH GOD!” The first officer yelled before suddenly, the line disconnected. Pierce damn near had a heart attack as the sound of the First Officer’s shrills. Pierce was distraught. He didn’t even process the sound of the exploding plane as it slammed into the ground just shy of Runway 60.

“PIERCE,” he could hear someone yell. It was a coworker, grabbing him by the shoulders and pulling him towards the tower window. Pierce wanted to stop him, but was in too much shock. But once he saw the aftermath, his soul sank into his stomach. The plume of smoke rose ominously into the air as the fire trucks rushed to the scene. Pierce could see the tall flames rising from the wreckage, the metal so twisted and deformed it didn’t even look like anything resembling an aircraft. The image of the bodies being vaporized in the intense heat made Pierce want to vomit.

“Jesus Christ.” The co-worker said solemnly.

A tragedy like this had not struck Carolina in a very, very long time. Yet Pierce not only just bore witness to a rare yet traumatizing event, and was involved first hand in trying to save the plane, and failed. He couldn’t believe it. Why did it have to happen to him now, and here?

But what Pierce didn’t understand was the geopolitical ramifications for what had just happened either. An American private jet crash landing barely 20 kilometers away from the border? This was more than international tragedy, this was something much, much bigger.

A CRISIS IN THE MAKING
MAYFIELD | STATE OF KENTUCKY | REPUBLIC OF COLUMBIA

"Sir... we have an alert." The calm voice of the secretary was heard by the officer at Mayfield Reserve Base, the man spending his downtime drinking some coffee in his office.

"What's the report?"

"A crash, we have chatter of some kind of crash across the border in Carolina... seems minor enough as we haven't heard anything major but I figured I would let you know just in case"

The Officer laughed a little.

"It definitely is minor, if it was anything major we would've heard abo-"

as if the television knew what he was talking about, the second he turned it on the news was talking about a major crash at Memphis International. The two looked at one another.

"Get me a line with the Governor... now."

The Secretary nodded as he rushed out of the office.

... Meanwhile...

ALBANY, STATE OF NEW YORK, REPUBLIC OF COLUMBIA

"Sir we have an emergency in from Carolina... apparently a plane crash."

President Dunleavy looked at his aide with a puzzled expression, why did this concern him?"

"What of it?"

"Well.. it came from Junta territory... and it crashed in Memphis."

The President's eyes raised a little.

"Interesting..."

Only a few hours after the crash Columbian Media Sources were all over the story, What could've caused the crash? A mistake with the engine? Foul Play inside the vessel? American Sabatoge? All were possible within the eyes of the anxious Columbian public. The President's Press Secretary, Elise Davids, would make a statement at the daily Press Briefing that day stating this:

"The Columbian Government stands with our Carolinian Allies during this time as they work to discover the reasons behind the untimely demise of Flight N-AL92. Of course we in the Columbian Government are ready and willing to provide whatever resources our allies might need in pursuit of discovering what caused this disaster. This is all."

The message was neutral, not even laced with the usual Anti-Junta talking points that had become the norm in the daily briefings. Though of course privately many within the Columbian Intelligence Network, especially forces within Blackstone, firmly believed this to be a Junta plot to stir up sympathies. Though no action was taken by President Dunleavy to try and find out. In his eyes this was a matter for Carolina to deal with and Carolina only. Nothing more. Regardless though he would reach out to President Osborne on the matter.

"Mr. President,

I have heard about the horrific events of Flight N-AL92 in Memphis and I will say that Columbia does indeed stand with your government as you try to find out what caused this tragedy. Please remember that if you ever need help in finding who did this or what caused this we in the Republic will happily send people down to aid you all. A matter such as this, especially one in this political climate, is dangerous if not dealt with carefully. We do not want the Junta to try and hijack this tragic event to their benefit.

Best Regards,
President Dunleavy"

October 30, 2040

Marcus shuffled through the small pile documents given to him regarding flight N-AL92. Ever since the incident, they have been showing up on his desk, but the flow of information was very light, and very vague.

The Carolinians knew that the flight was carrying a few diplomats, and other lower government officials, apparently sent by the American government in an attempt to mediate tensions between the United States, Carolina, and Columbia (Jakkonia). Although Marcus wasn't aware that diplomats were being sent, the Carolinian department of Foreign Affairs did approve the meeting, with plans to reopen the American embassy and consulates.

According to the black box information, the plane lost its first engine once they were 20 nautical miles from the border, and lost their second engine only 4 minutes later. Both spauntaneously exploded, which was a red flag to Marcus. The fires caused by explosions melted some internals required to control the plane's aerlions, making it incredibly hard to turn the plane.

American and Carolinian investigators were collaborating as they tried to figure out the cause behind the crash, but due to the estranged relationship between the two countries, it came with endless difficulties. The Americans were incredibly slow and secretive when it came to sharing the plane's data whilst it was in American airspace. The investigators claim it was due to national security reasons. Many things were unclear to the Carolinians, even their route. The plane was headed for Charlotte but according to the Americans, the plane had taken off from Denver and had a layover in an undisclosed airport prior to crossing the border.

Even though Carolina was officially responsible for running the investigation, as the crash did occur within her airspace, they couldn't get very far with only 90% of the plane's data and documentation. Marcus was incredibly suspicious. But would the Americans really stoop so low as to assasinate their own government officials to accomplish their goals?

Unfortunately, the answer to that question was yes.

An aide quietly opened Marcus' office door. "Mr. President. It's an emergency," he said weeirly. He looked deshoveled.

"What's going on?" Marcus asked, although he had a feeling he already knew the answer.

"The investigators say they found explosive residue on certain parts of the plane's engines. It's not for certain, but ISSAC is speculating that the Americans are going to use it as a justification for war."

Marcus sighed. For a while, he had been trying to emotionally prepare for this day. But he hadn't been focused enough on encruing allies. This was far from ideal.

Of course he knew that the claim was utter nonsense. Why would a country known for its isolation go out of its way to instigate a war with its neighbor? But the Americans didn't need a logically sound reason. They just needed any reason.

"Call the department of defense. Tell our forces on the border to prepare our defenses. I need to start making calls..." Marcus said with a no inflection in his voice. The aide didn't say a word, simply leaving the room.

The next day, the White House officially declared war on the Republic of Carolina after claiming the country had assasinated the diplomats onboard flight N-AL92 via planting explosives within the plane's turbine engines.

THIS INJUSTICE CANNOT STAND
ALBANY | COMMONWEALTH STATE OF NEW YORK | REPUBLIC OF COLUMBIA

The news of war between the Junta and Carolina would hit Columbia like a ton of bricks. Immediately the nation was thrown into a panic, many thinking that it was only a matter of time before war struck between Columbia and the American Junta as well. Times were tense, and the Junta's antics on their border were certainty not making things easier. President Dunleavy within hours of the declaration being announced would shut down the airspace over the border, military units scrambling to ensure that they had defensive and offensive capabilities ready as soon as possible to ensure they weren't pushed past the border. The House of Representatives and the Senate both held an emergency joint session with the attendance of the President, the session was televised and revealed this speech that would begin the next phase of Columbia's existence.

Senate Parliamentarian Robert Keere: "Now Welcoming to the Stand, the President of the Republic, President Ethan Dunleavy."

The applause of the room was massive, yet tension covered the room. Everyone in it was silent once the President took the stand, eager to hear what he had to say. With this in mind the President spoke.

"Thank You Mr. Keere..."

He nodded to the Parliamentarian who sat down, behind Dunleavy sat his Vice President, Blumhouse, as well as the House Speaker and the Senate Majority Leader, a showing of a truly united government. He took a deep breath, beginning his speech right after.

"Today is a day that will live in Infamy. These were the words spoken by the great Franklin Delano Roosevelt, one of the greatest presidents of the former United States of America. At the time it had been only a day after the horrific attacks on Pearl Harbor in Hawaii and he made the executive decision with the consent of the Legislature to declare war upon the Empire of Japan for their actions. Now, I know many of you in this room are currently wondering if we are living in another day of infamy... a day where a foreign power does something egregious to the point of no return. Well today we do indeed live in another day of infamy. A day where our neighbors in the Junta would kill their own diplomats, their own people, simply to create a fictitious reason to declare war upon our friends and allies. It is clear that the Junta is a rogue actor, one that is quickly losing its remaining power and any remaining sympathies it might've held before. It is clear that the Junta can no longer be dealt with utilizing traditional means of diplomatic action. Now is the time for action, now is the time to defend our allies."

He stopped for a moment.

"It is why it is here that I officially ask this Congress to vote on a Declaration of War against the American Junta so that we may come to the defense of our allies and save this continent from tyranny."

With that he nodded to the Parliamentarian, who stood back up and walked back to the stand, the President standing next to him as the Parliamentarian shuffled his papers before speaking.

Senate Parliamentarian Robert Keere: "Now on the Floor, the Congressional Authorization for a Declaration of War against the American State. Do I hear a motion to vote?"

"Aye" The single aye was noted by Keere.

"Is there a Second?"

"Aye"

The Second Aye was heard thus the vote began. These were the results:

It was a clear majority, it seemed now that Columbia was at war. President Dunleavy would sign the declaration before the nation, the room breaking into applause. Meanwhile on the border military forces were gearing up, ready for a fight. Within an hour of the declaration Martial Law was declared in the Border counties, the Columbian Air Force also were nearly ready to begin bombing raids across the border on Military Instillations. It was clear the country was ready to fight, and ready to win.

Outside, it seemed the wind threatened to blow everything off the face of the Earth. Inside the Executive Mansion, the dancers were safe from the elements of the storm. But another one was brewing elsewhere, and it’s winds were going to soon be felt.

A murmur ran through the attendees as their waltz was interrupted by the sudden entrance of a dozen men in military uniform. For a brief moment, they merely stood and scanned the crowd. Then, darting between the many pairs, they dashed up to several of the dancers and whispered quietly into their ears. Once heard, the selected dancers made their exit in due haste. Many recognized that those taken from the floor were military officials, which denoted a reason to be worried.

More concerning than that was two of these “couriers” darting towards the President, who was sharing a dance with a woman of influence. The crowds’ grumbles brought his attention to the men in uniform making towards him. Slowing and stopping his dance, he recognized something was amiss. What they subsequently whispered to him, the orchestra made impossible to hear. Betraying no sign of alarm in his face or demeanor, he bowed to his dancing partner with a smile and exited the ballroom. No sooner had he left when a crash of lighting struck closer than usual, violently shaking the ballroom.

The president had no time to change out of his waltzing clothes, and if he had, he would’ve looked out place among the leadership pulled from the same ball. Two dozen men of brass, in their black suits and shoes for dancing, hovered around the room’s massive conference table. Though chairs were available, most stood.

War. War. War. Here, at our doorstep.

The thought echoed through his head as his generals and admirals conversed with each-other, sharing strength and ideas with the help of physical and digital maps laid out on the table. The president hadn’t delegated anything yet for border security, but he was assuredly going to. His attention was on what he planned to say several hours from now, in the Capitol, in front of the public.

“As much as I wish this address was to acknowledge the incredible progress our country has made the past 3 years, I know your minds and my own is set on the future. The tides of war have come, and all of its evils with it. The stage has been set, the casting call sent out. The question now is what part we play.

I am speaking the earnest wish of every thoughtful citizen that this great country of ours should show herself, in this time of peculiar trial, a nation fit beyond others to exhibit the fine poise of undisturbed judgment, the dignity of self-control, and the efficiency of dispassionate action. It is in the best interest of Mordusville to adopt the true and tested policy of neutrality for as long as we can allow it. It is in the best interest of Mordusville to hope for the facilitation of peace between the three belligerents. But if peace is overturned within our borders, or on our Lakes, negotiation will not be an option…”

Just a snippet of what he planned to say. But he felt this summed it all up. Mordusville cannot risk losing its prosperity and safety, maybe even it’s sovereignty, in a brawl between three powers that dwarf the nation in size, population, and ground forces. He cannot allow that to happen. He just hoped the nation and her neighbors saw it that way.

VALUTAZIONE DELLA SITUAZIONE - PT.1
LAGO DI KHAMI | Khami, Terra di Fuoco| Patagonia-araucania
October 2040

With the Southern Hemisphere's summer rapidly approaching, the Doge and his cabinet made their way along the A-40 to the lakeside town of Khami for a weekend of fishing, boating, drinking and talking politics off the record. A real boys trip among the orchestrators of the November Coup that gave birth to the current era of Patagonian stability. Outside the confines of Oshovia, the 5 colonels left behind their titles and saw each others as friends and equals. Ever since their days at the officer's academy, Apollon and his boys always made time for their mid-October fishing trip in Khami before the summer heat made fishing less enjoyable. Despite the massive wealth they have accrued with their positions of power, the boys always spent the weekend at [Minister of Transport] Ugo Foscolo's uncle's run-down cabin on the Penisola dei Venti. They have, however, upgraded the rusty John-boat to a brand new pontoon.

On Friday morning, Apollon, Ugo, Alexandros, Pietro and Antonio finally arrived at the cabin. Before the bags could be emptied, the brandy was already flowing. Eventually the men were ready to pack the ship with fishing gear, booze and food to enjoy the first day of fishing. Ugo drove the boat to a picturesque cove were the vegetation emerged out of the water closer to shore near a drop off point in the lake. With tunes already blasting and drinking vessels filled to capacity, the boys rigged up their fishing lines and began casting. Soon enough, the Doge caught a massive brook trout on his rooster-tail spinner bait. After some celebratory cheers and a few photos, the fish was released. This would continue throughout the after noon with eventually every catching a few fish each, all the while while they were drinking, singing, and eating freshly barbecued lambchops, souvlaki and loukaniko. Around 5pm, the boys made their way back to the cabin for a nap. Eventually they woke up, prepared supper, started a fire and started a smoking sesh. After Antonio's turn in the blunt rotation, the Minister of Foreign Affairs brought current global events:

Antonio - So Apollo... what's your take on this new war brewing in North America.

Apollon - Were are staying the **** out of it. That's my take malaka.

Ugo - Yeah, but think of the influence we'd gain. Maybe we can expand the highspeed rail connection to the megalopolises of North America

Apollon - Bro... [takes a hit of the blunt] we're already IN a war... It's at a ****ing standstill because those atheist ****suckers aren't budging beyond the Jurong-Meiyao Line.

Pietro - Pass the blunt bro... [takes a hit] If only the Tsonese would let us be more liberal with our naval bombardment maaan...

Antonio - Okay, okay, okay... Hear me out boys... Let's mediate things. Invite the Americans, Columbians, Carolinians and anyone else involved and bring peace the Patagonian way

Alexandros - Plenty of booze?

Everyone - Plenty of booze! Eh! Let's ****ing go! Opa!

The weekend continued very much the same. The Doge had Antonio draft some letters inviting the concerned leaders of North America to the Palazzo San Marco in Oshovia to settle their differences and sent them out to his Foreign Affairs counterparts.

        China: Nightmares of Unification

      ______

      北京 | Beijing
      Office of the Vice President

    | 1:36 AM |

It was nighttime in Beijing and VP Sun Cheng-Shiak paced around her office awaiting for something or someone. Tension was high in the room though everything seemed awfully peaceful around her and Beijing. President Hu Tai along with other ministers and politicians retired for the night, though Cheng-Shiak insisted on staying, she needed to do some things before she retired for the night.

Cheng-Shiak: "Damn it, how long is she gonna take?" she cursed as she picked up the remote from her desk and turned on the TV. Foreign media broadcast first the civil war in Tsone, then the war brewing in the American States, "The Americas are in chaos, and now we stand back and watch from afar, separated by the Pacific, and Europe separated from them by the Atlantic." she says. All the regional powers were in battle. The American Military Authority at war with Columbia and the United Carolinia's. Tsone as while distant cousins were not of the ROC's concerns, as Patagonia seems to back them up well enough that the ROC doesn't have to risk getting involved. Headlines read "COLUMBIA AND NUC DECLARE WAR ON THE AMERICAN JUNTA," and "BLOOD SPILLING IN TSONE, A NATION ENGULFED IN CHAOS,"

The phone rang as the TV's nightly reporter was talking, Cheng-Shiak grabs the phone and asks.

Cheng-Shiak: "This is the Vice President of the ROC, who may this be?" she asked.

Wen Yijun: "The stars have aligned, and the sky is dark, fireworks go off from distant lands, and light up the sky brightly, question is, shall you join them?" she asked. There was a moment of silence before Cheng-Shiak made the order.

Cheng-Shiak: "Well then bring the fireworks in, it is time we light up the sky as well, bring China into a new era, and let its people flourish under the guidance of the ROC, and bring happiness and prosperity to the Hans and the people of the world," she says, Yijun hung up and Cheng sighed. She took her belongings, switched off the TV, and headed back home for the night in the cold tainted capital of China.

      中韓邊境 | Sino-Korean Border
      Guyuan County Border point

    | 2:17 AM |

ROC border troops slept peacefully at the night between the borders of Korea-Manchuria and China. It had been long ago since Korea had control over parts of Manchuria, that being when Goguryeo was a great power within East Asia until its eventual fall.

Manchuria was home to the Qing Dynasty, a great Empire that had vast control however had faced humiliation from Western powers and was thrown into darkness by the West during the colonial era.

All had seemed quiet now, too quiet until an alarm could be heard.

ROC Officer: "CHEMICAL ATTACK!!!!" One of the officers yelled as many of the soldiers were awakened, though chaos ran rampant across the Guyuan County Border point. Many were armed with weapons and expected retaliation, gunshots were heard and a border conflict ensued between the Sino-Korean border, just around 200 miles or less from Beijing. Some were awakened by the alarm and gunshots while many never woke to the sounds of the alarm nor the action ensues.

      中蒙邊境 | Sino-Mongolian Border
Huang Gai Xi Li Zhongqiao Bridge

    | 3:28 AM |

Border patrol remained between Mongolia and China, people moved back and forth between the militarized Chinese checkpoint and the Mongolian Checkpoint. Though during this time not much traffic happened between the two nations. Though a car from Mongolia would travel to the Chinese checkpoint. The car would stop and the border officer questioned the man while guards stayed vigilant and a trained dog to search for contraband items was snooping the car.

ROC Officer: "Pleasure or Business,"

Driver: "To Liberate Mongolia from you Chinese Imperialists," he says. The ROC Officer looked at him in confusion.

ROC Officer: "Guh!? I am sorry what?" he said, the search dog barking frantically as if it had found something, the driver of the car then lifted up what seemed to be some button, though as soon as the ROC Officer could comprehend how f#cked he was. The driver pulled the trigger and the border checkpoint, in a flash, was vaporized, the Mongolian checkpoint frozen at the sight of the destruction, and part of the bridge collapsed, though thankfully no one but the ROC officers was hurt. Though this had major repercussions as at 4:12 AM military vehicles arrived at the scene and started an all-out firefight with the Mongolian Border Forces.

The Northern border of China was under the threat of incursions by the Korean and Mongolian nations. These small border clashes started popping up more and more between the three nations and eventually, it seemed as though they will accumulate into a war.

      北京 | Beijing
      Presidents estate

    | 5:02 AM |

President Hu Tai was asleep at that time, whilst sleeping having felt relaxed that China wasn't at war with anyone, until she was awakened by the sudden bang on the door and eventually the Minister of Defense and soldiers rushing in. Hu Tai almost had a panick attacked having the MoD seeing her only in her Pajamas.

Hu Tai: "What the f**k, what is going on!?" she shouted demanding an answer.

Minister of Defense: "We have a situation in the northern borders between us and the Mongolians and Koreans. We fear that we may need to call for action against the Korean Republic and Mongolia."

Hu Tai: "What the hell happened while I was asleep!?"

Minister of Defense: "A Chemical attack against our troops on the Korean border and a bomb going off on the Chinese outpost on the Mongolian border, as if it was planned all along to catch us by surprise."

Hu Tai: "This doesn't make any sense,"

Minister of Defense: "It does not to me as well, I never thought the Mongolians nor Koreans would pull such a stunt like this during our weakest time, though casualties on the chemical attack estimates that 126 ROC border units were killed by the chemical attack in Guyuan County Border point, with several being injured as well,"

Hu Tai: "What Chemical?" she asked.

Minister of Defense: "A Nerve Agent, Sarin."

Hu Tai: "And the Mongolian Border? What happened there?"

Minister of Defense: "Report is unclear, though an explosion was seen at the distance and nearby troops saw this as an attack by Mongolia, 5 ROC border units killed, there.

Hu Tai stayed silent, it was sort of like she woke up to a world where nightmares came true, she pinched herself hoping she would wake up from this bad dream, the Minister of Defense then reitterated their words.

Minister of Defense: "The more time we waste, the more time they are able to ready a proper assault against China, please get ready President, the APC is awaiting and we will head to the National Great Hall of Beijing, I will be awaiting downstairs," he says as the soldiers and the Minister left the room and their boots were heard going down the stairs and slowly faded away, she looked at the time and saw it was 5:17 AM.

Hu Tai: "F**k, only 4 to 5 hours of sleep," she sighed, as she got out of bed and got ready to get bitten by all the members of the Assembly.

PALAZZO SAN MARCO | Oshovia, Terra del Fuoco | Patagonia-araucania
October 2040

Dear [insert Foreign Affairs Minister/Secretary] of [insert nation],

It is with great concern that Patagonia continues to bear witness to the deteriorating state of peace and stability on the North American continent. It was not too long ago that the United States fractured itself along regional and socio-economic lines due to the pressures of war and a faltering economy and it would a shame for war to once again ravage these lands. For this, His Serenity the Doge, Apollon Voulgaris, has invited your nation's leader for mediation talks in the majestic halls of the Palazzo San Marco.

All necessary precautions will be taken to ensure the safety of President Osborne, Dunlevy and Jones over the course of the negotiations. Each leader will be allocated 2 Patagonian Secret Service agents for their personal protection and each leader has permission to bring an accompanying security detail of 5. No weapons will allowed within 1 kilometer of the palace barring those of Patagonian security forces.

We hope to see you all here for a fruitfull discussion and to at least unwind the Patagonian way through food and drink.
