Eventually, after roughly 10 kilometres of marching, the Army of Breifne was locked into combat with the Ultachs.
The Ultachs, with superior technology, superior numbers and superior tactics, failed to easily breeze through the lads from Breifne.
More familiar with the terrain, the Breifnans managed to hold the position until sunset.
Typically, battle ceased when there was no sunlight.
However, in the dead of night, at about 01:00, torches were lit and screams were heard across the valley.
With little time to run, the Breifneans were quickly destroyed. The sentries that guarded the camp of the Breifneans held no resistance, as they were overwhelmed but a seemingly endless mob.
Many huts were burnt down, and about 60% of the Breifnean army was held captive. Their future was set to be slavery, working as man servants or maids to the citizens of Ultach.
The March down to cork would continue, spirits ever high.
