GENERAL ELECTIONS HELD IN CATALONIA

After delaying general elections after the earthquake that struck the country a few years ago, Catalonia has finally rebuilt enough so that elections may be held in every section of the country. All parties contesting the elections must be a member of the Popular Front, however voters may vote for any party that is a member of the group and the largest party nominates the President of Catalonia. Each of the five provinces send 48 legislators to the Federal Assembly who are elected proportionally. The remaining 30 seats are nominated by the countries various worker's unions, who are often allied with political parties themselves.

Incumbent President Pedro Sanchez was re-elected, however the Worker's Front won 120 seats including the 15 seats won by the Catalan Union of Workers, which is a 30 seat decrease from the last election. This resulted in the party losing its majority, which will force them to co-operate more with other PF parties. The WF has continued to pledge support for transitioning to a communist society and implementing the necessary reforms to achieve this.

The Anarchist Confederation gained 75 seats (including the 8 seats won by the ICCTU), a 25 seat gain from the last election. This can be attributed to support for their pressure in passing the Laïcisme Act and growing support for the anarchist movement to oppose nationalism and imperialism that is growing both in Catalonia and in neighbouring countries. The party pledged to support global anarchist movements and continue to fight for secularism, civil rights, and decentralization.

The Catalan National Alliance gained 70 seats (including the 7 seats won by the NACW), a 30 seat gain from the last election. They performed strongly in the Balearic Islands where Catalan nationalist sentiment is strong, along with the province of Lleida which has strong anti-French sentiment due to their close proximity to that country and their invasion by France during the World War. The party pledged to continue to support strengthening Catalonia's military and annexing the Països Catalans, along with tearing up the treaty with Italy that allowed them to take full control over Sardinia.

In the far northeast corner of the Province of Lleida in the Aran Valley, some remaining monarchist groups that support uniting with France under a monarchist union with the Bonapartes at the helm staged a failed uprising during the election. Around 50 or so armed citizens attempted storming the municipal council and interrupting voting, taking the place hostage for about an hour before the military was able to successfully push them out with the help of armed local volunteers and members of the Red Guards. The perpetrators were arrested and now await trial in Barcelona.
