Loftegen 3 wrote:"This is interesting," Lady Zaharra said. "After you voted to de-fund the police you called them to your house, ten times."

Councilwoman African Name stammered, "You're going to kill me, aren't you?"

"No. He is" She pointed to behind the councilwoman to a burglar that had just bursted into her home. And then vanished without a trace.

"Wwho are you and what are you doing??!" The councilwoman asked in fear.[

"Robbing you of course" the burglar said with a smile "Ever since you defunded the police it's been like purge night, every night! I really cant thank you enough."

"Please I know I screwed up, just please take what you want and leave me alone."

"I'm afraid I can't do that, ya see me and a buddy made a bet over who could get the most scalps by midnight. And boy do I hate to lose."

"Ill...I'll shoot you!!!"

"With what? In case you forgot you also voted to illegalize guns."

"Then...then how did you get a gun!!!

"Simple, I'm a criminal. Criminals dont follow laws, that's what makes us criminals."

"But, How exactly?"

"Oh, well let's see I have one gun that I bought from a guy that made it with a 3D printer, I have another that was smuggled in from another country, and then this one I'm carrying here was stolen from the military. Cost me a pretty penny but hey, that investments paying off tonight."

The councilwoman dropped her head in defeat and sighed "Ok, just please get it over with already."

"With pleasure." *BANG*

Here I improved it for ya.

On the matter of Lazarus' judiciary:

Though in real life the independence of such an institution is paramount, in NationStates courts tend to be traps for inactivity. There is very little for them to do so excluding justices from the rest of the region's affairs leaves them disengaged. This makes filling the court difficult, either resulting in it being short-staffed and dysfunctional or staffed by cosmopolitan players with little investment in the region.

As such, the proposal in question is not the world-ending event Demonos has made it out to be. It is a necessity if the region is to have a court in practice as much as it does in law.

an excuse to have otherwise is unacceptable in any situation.

I think the issue that has been brought up by Demonos goes beyond that point. Whether or not the judiciary is an institution that tends to be inactive and less busy, there are still potentially issues with one person being able to have broad powers in different areas of the region. I personally believe we should get people involved as much as possible and try to include as many people in the process of running the region that we can, but when a position can make rulings and establish law that can potentially benefit them and their agendas directly in other positions, that's a problem. I think that's the reason why this separation was likely established to begin with.

If the argument that is being made in favor of this change is that we don't have enough active people to serve in the multitude of positions we have, then we should try and solve that issue instead of cutting corners. Additionally, I don't think it's wise for us to appoint justices who are disengaged in the region in general. Whether or not their specific position warrants constant activity, if they use it as an excuse to become less involved as a whole then what does that say about the person appointed?

If our biggest problem is that we do not have enough engaged, active, and dedicated Shareholders, then I would hope we can make it our government's primary objective to try to bring more people into LazCorp and our awesome community here! Consolidating powers that might bite us down the line is not an answer to that, in my opinion.

Can't have just one guy in a two person show.

I try, very poorly might I add, to stay away from internet politics because I can never really know the person behind the username. When you know the individuals behind the beliefs then the reason they believe makes sense.
But both of our dear friends have contributed their fair share of rmb wackiness. Crack on you two.

I mean, not really, lofty just had a bunch of incoherent rambles, and cossack wrote an essay, and a fanfic on it.

Yeah, you right. Guess I'm just trying to make sure everyone feels appreciated. :/

Hey everyone,

I haven't been on the rmb rp lately, and have been trying to jump back in at a suitable point. None appeared, so I made one myself. Please see my new factbook "The Aftermath" for details.
Long story short, we in Cianlandia would like to extend a hand of friendship to the formerly hostile nations of the Southern Compact of the old South Sea War, and try to make better relations from sour ones: Dernel, Cossack PeoplesCustadia, New vedan. (I think that's everyone.)

VOTE NAY HERE AT:

Section 1. Amendment of the Twelfth Mandate of Lazarus

(1) The relevant section of Article V. of the Twelfth Mandate of Lazarus as currently written, reads:

"Justices will serve until resignation, removal from office by the Assembly, or automatic removal from office. Justices may not serve in any other office while serving as Justices."

(2) The amended section of Article V. of the Twelfth Mandate of Lazarus shall read:

"Justices will serve until resignation, removal from office by the Assembly, or automatic removal from office."

a) It creates a conflict of interest.
b) A Justice will be partial and in possession of privileged information.
c) The proposal opens up a possibility of abuse of power by public officials.
d) It is unethical.

This is very important. It can be taken care of as easily as an issue.

Fellow Lazarene. This is an exciting time for regional politics. Unfortunately, we in The Principality noticed you may not be a Citizen and Shareholder of LazCorp. Should this be so, you may be unable to vote at this very crucial time for this specific proposal. Sorry for pestering you like this.

Still though, consider getting citizenship by filling out an application here:

All of you have endorsed Demonos. We would like to see you take part in our community of Lazarus. With more people like you, maybe we wouldn't have a hard time filling positions around here. This proposal really is a law of convenience rather than practicality. We would like your help in fighting the root of corruption.

Thank You For A Moment of Your Time,
Sincerely,
Lady Vera

If you have the time, it would be a great place to get involved. We've got a lively community for sure.

That said, the LAZDisco I mentioned yesterday has begun! Feel free to post about or links to music you like, and get on the dance-floor!

I like this song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gaLWqy4e7ls It's a Portuguese song with an interesting tie to the Carnation Revolution. If I knew much about dancing, I might be able to dance to it, but I'm going to sit back for this one.

So there was an issue about whose faces to put on the new Mzeusian banknotes. What's the problem. Put depictions of the gods on them, and if anyone complains, burn them at the stake.

The Two Tubbies of Treadwellia woke to what is becoming a rather common occurrence lately. Mrs. Tubbius, happily snoozing tummy to tummy by His Rotundity, found Herself waking suddenly and wanting some ice cream now. His Immensity, though sleepy, does not complain at this request. Besides, it lets Him click on the television to see if anyone is dancing at the LazDisco yet.

At vote right now is a proposal to end independent jurisprudence. Our Mandate, currently, does not allow sitting Justices to serve in other Lazarene positions of power. If you haven't yet voted, you will have your chance until August 13th, 3:15 PM EST.

This proposal seeks to delete a sentence that forbids Justices from holding other positions. It is a law of convenience rather than praticality. Instead of appointing citizens to positions, there is a movement to consolidate power away from the citizenry who are rightfully entitled to participate in regional justice and activities under a balance of power. Defenders of this proposal are mostly officers of the region who have traded their values for the chance of personal political advancement. The excuse that, "the participation is low", will be thrown about. This is fallacy. It is engagement that is being neglected.

This can be solved very much like an issue/rmb hybrid. All it requires you to do is login and VOTE "NAY". There are officers in Lazarus who have shown the wisdom to avoid the temptation of losing an independent judiciary under their administration. They have voted to retain a valuable ideological treasure that Lazarus deserves and have voted Nay. The real question boils down to this;

Should Lazarus be threatened in the future with ad hoc law?
