Any weapon battery, in this case and AA battery, is mounted on a rotary platform with 360 degree turn radius, and can move the muzzle up and down to a max of 120 degrees. This is not the most effective AA method when it comes to missiles, the idea of a pulse weapon was used in Providence by Max Barry. With our own modifications we can make this weapon RP acceptable. A pulse, sends out a wave of energy(not specified, I can figure that out later) that moves out in a general direction that can take out all small objects it touches, it requires some time to charge because it needs to build up compression for the wave to take its size and speed.

On the matter of shielding, electromagnetic fields are very popular, but they absorb next to nothing laser or live ammo. Some shielding systems activate in only areas taking damage, its less costly energy wise, and will absorb more damage, but bulky and awkward. Which brings me to the two most viable shielding systems. Black globes and White Globes, white globes are too OP so I will skip them. Black globes are a form of shield that alters gravity around the ship, and stops all matter from passing through, the drawback is it works both ways, the people inside cannot see out, communicate outside of it, or fire outside of it, so it must be deactivated to return fire, talk, use scanners, and see. White globes don’t have that problem, so they are too god mode.

Finally, despite the relation between space and maritime laws, space is vastly different and the classifications of ships is barely applicable to starships. Space operates on three and sometimes four dimensions, generally weapons only fire laterally on sea, and there is a predetermined up and down. As I'm sure you know, these rules do not apply to space, when you have enough scientific advancement to alter the rules of physics, and travel at FTL speeds, the least of your worries is a nuke, the weapon advancement cannot be compared to physics and technology we know today, or even what we think it might be in 200 years. Nuclear weapons can be countered even today irl, it won’t be a problem at all in the future. Weight isn’t a problem in space, your armor can be as thick as you want, which means you need bigger thrusters, which results in needing a bigger ship.

Put simply, a corvette cannot outgun a cruiser, the cruiser will always have more fuel, life support, weapons, and armor than the corvette. The corvette has less surface area for weapons, lowering its fire output. It will be shooting at something with more surface area, meaning it will have to hit it more to cripple it, and it will fire less than the cruiser, the cruiser will have an extreme advantage in firepower and will chew through the smaller ship much faster. Lets use this analogy, you have a pistol, and 10 ft in front of you is a target 10 inches in diameter, you can shoot that target very easily, not you are 10ft away from a target with a 2 inch diameter, still easy to hit, because you are ten feet away, you will be able to put more bullets in the big target than the little one, which is destroyed faster? Before you say “smaller is harder to hit” remember your argument about heat seeking missiles, and how much heat radiation comes from a starship, aiming won’t ever be a problem.
