Interesting thought. Sometimes people create 'altar ego' nations on NS, I have before. Right now, the closest I have to it is Prussian Sail Nation, which is the idea of a militaristic vassal.

Also, thanks The black snake with green eyes for the Stamps. I think I might give the TG template a once-over first to make sure it is all good for it, so what I am going to do is post a dispatch with the recruitment TG in it so that everyone can have a look at it and give suggestions for improvements.

This is Celtia's recruitment TG. It is here for Celtia citizens to help give tips on how to improve it, as well as freedom of information for Celtian citizens. If you have any suggestions for how to improve it, then TG Sailiopia or post on the Celtia RMB.

Hi %NATION% and welcome to the wonderful world of NationStates!
You are probably sitting there, overwhelmed by the shear amount of Telegrams asking you to join a region. As someone who once was a new player in that situation, I feel for you and I'm very sorry to contribute to this, but it has to be done to let people like you know about my region.

This is because I, like several others, feel passionate about my region, Celtia, and would love you to come and join us so that we can make our region an even greater place. Here's why

  • We have active and experienced nations ready to help you get used to the game. Experienced nations such as myself are ready and raring to help you learn how to play nationstates, and about the many wonderful things you can do in the game. We can help you in anything from problems answering issues to informing you about how to become involved in regional politics. We're happy to answer any questions you may have about the game on our Regional Message Board.

  • We have a regional government where anyone can get involved. Celtia is relatively young, and we have positions open in the regional government where you can help build the region into what you want it to be. Once you understand the game (which doesn't take long at all), we can help you join our government and do one of the most satisfying things on NationStates: Help a region become established in the game and be known as someone who helped make that happen.

  • Democratic processes. While in Celtia your nation doesn't need to be a democracy, our elections and political processes in the region are democratic, which means that you can make a difference if you're unhappy about how the region is being run, which is more than a lot of regions. We also try our hardest to protect freedom of speech.

So then why not join Celtia? Just click the button at the bottom of this Telegram with says 'Move to Celtia'. Hope to see you in Celtia!! And if you have any questions or worries, then send just send a Telegram back to me, and I will do best to help. I might not respond immediately (I have a life outside of NationStates as well), but I'm always happy to answer any queries you may have.

-Sailiopia, Head Minister of Celtia.

Alter ego nations? Interesting...

You're welcome for the stamps. The recruitment TG looks great, I look forward to seeing it in action.

Anyway Sail, how about we get some nations from Thaecia and other democratic regions? From what I've seen of Thaecians, they're competent, and could be useful in governing Celtia.

I might give Thaecia a go, but I'll be careful to not act like I'm recruiting. I'll probably do the same as what I did when Lorania was losing nations, that is posting saying that it might be worthwhile for some nations to send a puppet to the region to either help out or just to get the numbers up.

I'll start sending the TGs tomorrow or the day after.

It seems I’m the only candidate for Regional Judge. In that case, I don’t think I need to worry about the Election.

As Regional Judge, I have to declare that our current recruitment TG is illegal, as has not gone through the legislative process. I officially call a referendum on whether Celtia accepts it or not.

OK then.

Do you immediately take office if there is no competition in an election, or do you wait until the time when you would have been elected, presuming that you would have won the election?

I still have to wait until the time when I would have been elected, just to keep everything in order.

Hey everyone, quick update. I've removed The black snake with green eyes as my Celtia nation, and replaced it with this one. I just thought that my previous nation's name was more of a classification than an actual name. I've also made this nation my WA one, for the moment anyway.

EDIT: Candidacy for the Druidic Council Election can be announced from now up to (but not including) the 7th of February.

Question of the day:

If you could go anywhere in the world (after Covid, with no travel costs/time or implications on environment etc.), where would you go?

I think I'd go to Canada - looks like a better, more picturesque version of the USA (from my perspective as someone from the UK). However, as a sailor, I'd probably prefer to sail a fast sailing boat on a trip somewhere (even though I usually sail much smaller boats).

I hereby declare my candidacy for the Druidic Council.

North Wales.

You’re a sailor IRL?

North wales is great. Quiet beaches, castles and sheep.

Sailing is a hobby for me - I sail little dinghies on lakes, which I do find fun and relaxing. Obviously haven't done much sailing during Covid and lockdown, but I was able to do a bit in the summer last year while Covid cases were low. The name 'Sail Nation' came from sailing (even though I don't like that name anymore and prefer Sailiopia). Does anyone else find it difficult when you're creating a username (or nation name, in the case of NS), and you can't quite find the right name, so you end up making a bit of a weird name?

A funny thing is back at the start of Lorania, we had 3 boat-related nations - me, Seas and Saint Sully (who had a Viking-style flag). There was even a suggestion of creating a political party between us three, however that never happened, and I don't feel like it's the right place to explain here why it wouldn't have been.

Hmm, it seems that Atronapolia/Devionsa and Cape tempest/Seven Seas haven’t declared candidacy yet for the Druidic Council, despite them saying they would, about a month ago. I hope they don’t forget, otherwise we won’t have a working legislature.

(Devionsa and Seven Seas, please like this post so we know you’ve read it, and haven’t forgotten)

Just checked up on recruitment statistics and it shows something about the hardness of recruitment. Only 7% of nations that get a recruitment TG actually read it. Whether it is disinterest in the game or simply being overwhelmed by telegrams, it does make recruitment hard.

But we're slowly getting more nations, which is great in padding out the region. The more nations we have, the more likely nations will see us and join because we look more active. I'm still not an advocate of only focusing on regional growth, but it is relatively important.

And I am going to start some focus on embassies, as that is usually helpful. I will look for relatively small regions with 10-50 nations in them, and ask for embassies. I will not create embassies with any region that is fascist, communist or of another hateful ideology.

That is troubling, as it seems the only solution to that is to send more TGs. I've just bought another 8,000 for you, since 2,000 TGs managed to get us 3 more recruits. Sending 8,000 should get us around 4 times that number.

Having more nations has it's pros and cons. On one hand, more nations gives other regions the impression that we're a bigger region that what we are, which will earn us good friends and more nations. But on the other hand, it can fill regions with dead weight, often outnumbering the active members of a region. At the moment however, Celtia is small and needs friends, which forces us to recruit indiscriminately. We did mention recruiting players who are fed up with their current region, but the difficulty is finding them, and apparently it's considered poaching (according to Excal).

Good, we are going to need embassies, if we want others to know about us. As a region, having friends is very important, as it increases awareness of regions, which could attract valuable players. Also, it can do various other positives such as, help defending delegacies etc. We should also pursue some kind of friendship with Lorania, even if it's not embassies. I also recommend we propose the construction of embassies with the Union of Democrats and Old Zealand, both democratic and around the same population as us.
