The Evening Courier

King Sladký III has lifted the ban on foreigners serving in the Sarvanian military and has began a huge campaign to recruit foreigners, particularly in nations that have a large Sarvanian immigrant population.

The Evening Courier: Special Report

King Sladký III and Darling Jeeirin II have wed in the Ctyři Church. Few were in attendance, and many guards were posted, both of which were done intentionally to avoid the wedding being targeted. The reception, however, was an event that was open to the town of Ctyři to attend (after a proper check by the guards). The reception was considered a great success, and was broadcast to the entirety of the nation and select foreign TV stations. The culture of Porlanble was on full display, with traditional wine and the traditional Kazotsky Kick dance being performed by many.

The same night, an Anthacian Airlines plane was nearly shot down over the Germanian Banovina of Grätensva by Isaszian terrorists, only through both the poor aim of the terrorists and the expert skills of the pilot was the plane able to make it to the nearest runway with minimal damage. Upon hearing the news, King Sladký III ordered a massive artillery bombardment on an Isaszian strong point. He said, "If we can't talk to them with our with our voices, we shall let our guns do the talking."

In other news, small Sarvanian games studio Team Tempric released their newest game, "Tempricia". The free-to-play game is described as "You use your car's special abilities: boost, wings, and jump, to navigate a retro 80s futuristic city at high speeds, often hitting 300 mph or above, to the tune of super Eurobeat (Stelinbeat?), in this survival driving game. You can race for the best time or against others". By allowing the addicting game to be both free and multiplayer, the game has been a huge hit in Sarvania and Marolia.

The Ministry of War announced today the completion of the 'Fortress Colonies' project. Seeing the vast number of enemies to be faced in the current war, the ministry has decided that rather than attempt to monitor and defend the entire Ulutorian Ocean, the focus of the military, specifically the allied militaries of Ulutorian Dominion's Aremista and Sumeriti, will be to force the enemy to attack them and their newly heavily fortified positions. In the process killing a humongous number of the enemy.
The two colonies have in recent months been loaded up with missiles, planes, and other forms of ammunition. Along with a huge amount of artillery and other long-range strike platforms, the defenses of the island are now impenetrable, making an attempt to take an island suicidal. An enemy assault would immediately be bogged down before even reaching the seeing distance of the shoreline. And the islands are now also equipped with state of the art iron dome systems to eliminate any air strike of missile launch to attack the 'Fortresses'. Meanwhile, the islands will also serve as naval bases for the advanced submarine fleets that will pester enemy navies.
The ministry has assured us that this measure is the most effective course of action to take. Saying in a statement, 'come and take it' to the current adversaries of Ulutor. This is apparently only the 1st part of war measures to be put into effect. And Ulutorians should continue to pay attention to the news for updates.

You do know once the SI's navy has complete control of the ̶U̶l̶u̶t̶o̶r̶i̶a̶n̶ Grand Ocean, the men on those islands will run out of supply very quickly, right?

Do you think we didn't prepare for a siege? Because we did.

Anthacia will economically assist any nation attempting to break those defenses once the time is right.

I’m sure the people living unfortunately under the Ulutorian heel are very happy about their land being turned into a fortress because you couldn’t turn your ships around.

As New Years passes, many soldiers at the front held temporary truces to celebrate the New Years. There were a few cases in which opposing sides celebrated together; in the town of Satarik forces even got as one soldier put it, "Totally plastered together."

Other soldiers were not as lucky. Pvt. Vasili Arkopoiv, who's battalion was bombarded throughout New Years night said, "It's always rough to be away from your family on the holidays, risking death, but we signed up for this and shall do our duty whatever the cost."

In Stelinian Saykist tradition, King Sladký III sent every Sarvanian soldier a lighter, addressed from and to, "King Sladký III and Queen Jeeirin II, to the brave souls fighting for our Motherland"

Foreign volunteers were also sent a lighter from the King and Queen, with the address sent in the volunteers native language.

To celebrate the new year, Anthacians across the nation lit fireworks and waved flags saying “2053” on them. The most spectacular show was over Greenwale, where the sky was constantly lit up by fireworks. Aoraki City was close behind, also displaying impressive fireworks shows. Although thousands of Anthacians were unable to celebrate the year at home, His Majesty King Edward IV has sent government care packages to Anthacian volunteers overseas, complete with miniature fireworks kits and special MREs including a small cake.

Meanwhile, a whole new celebration is commencing. King Edward IV has announced his marriage with Carrie Everleigh, the Anthacian actress who His Majesty has been in a relationship with for 5 years. The marriage is to commence in February, and Anthacia has invited the leaders from all nations to attend, although a very particular Emperor has been excluded from the invitation list. Anthacians celebrate Queen Carrie as well as the new year.

Chinern News

While most citizens of Chinern spent their New Year’s Eve/Day celebrating with their loved ones, a certain few could not afford this luxury. A few legions of Chinernian marines, engineers, and national guard troops spent their New Year in transit to the southern Osstan archipelago. They spent the first hours of the New Year building fortifications and Artillery emplacements. The Chinernian government, recognizing that morale may suffer from an inability to celebrate the New Year, allowed an extra ration of sake to deployed troops.

In other news, Premier Robert Emery has seen fit to attend King Edward IV of Anthacia’s marriage, and congratulated the King on his marriage.

The King has been shot!

Despite the best actions of Sladký III's personal guard, the king was shot in the lower part of his shoulder by a Isaszian terrorist. As his guards swarmed around him, his would-be assassin was hit nearly 30 times by Sladký III's personal guard, killing him almost instantly.

Sladký III is expected to make a full recovery, though will be in hospital for some time to come.

Despite the fact he is in hospital, that has not stopped Sladký III from delivering Royal Addresses to the people of Sarvania. He is quoted as saying "The Sarvanian soldiers fighting on the front have suffered much worse than I have, and must still perform their duty. I intend to do the same."

In other royal news, Queen Jeeirin II announced she was pregnant earlier today. She said she intended to keep it a close secret, to avoid controversy as it appears the child was conceived before her and Sladký III were married, but given the tenuous nature of the situation Sarvania finds itself in now, she decided to announce it now.

In other news, Kave Jonjisen, the leader of the Supreme Royal Command and the leader of the National Peace and Order Maintaining Council (the de facto leader of the Provisional Republic of Isaszia) announced that terror attacks would stop throughout Sarvania, but he has declared a "Warzone" in the Banovina of Isaszyóújfalu which will "Still be open for attacks". He will also deliver a "Leader's Address" to the people of Isaszyóújfalu in a few days.

The tower will be open to the public once it is completed. An observation deck and restaurant will also be built, and it is expected that, if weather permits, a person could see all of Rotestadt from the observation deck.

The tower will be smaller that its Senoran counterpart, at 2,207 feet.

An angry mob now roams across Amackaba. Months of indecision have resulted in what might be presented as militias. The skies over the desert, have as if matching the narrative, turned to black and have generated record rain...as well as record flooding. Emergency services dispatched to the areas being flooded, nearly all of flat arid land that makes up the holy land. Many feel that they are still living in a civil war, coasting off a prolonged armistice. And to some point, the idea sticks.
The army that fought in the civil war had a notable divide. General Tahr bin Turat, the victor of most major battles, looked to the young nations soon to be neighbors as a model. A government not only of the people, but for them. A government that was not hesitant to create was he saw, as a rightful response the down and falling Kingdom, a reaction justified by the war he was fighting and by what he saw in those that volunteered. Turat saw a utopia that he was fighting for, that his men, were fighting for. A socialist Utopia.
Meanwhile, Surief had been the orator that lit the spark of revolution. Without his words, many fewer would have taken up arms. But despite that inspirational tone, Surief saw the war as a chance to correct what was wrong, not overturn everything. A new government in a new country. Maybe in along term view this could have made sense to the masses, but generally, he found himself accused of trying to hamper Turat. His lack of military skill has forced him to place diplomacy. And diplomats gain no respect. Turat built the pride of a nation, Surief built its structure. His winning of the first election is and should be attributed to his abilities as a campaigner, and should be held up as an early victory. And so far Surief's policies, especially reconstruction, have resulted in a net success. Perhaps if Allah had granted him a skilled general without political aspirations he could have kept the country unified in its young life. But Turat's jumpstarting of the Socialist spirit in the lands of Allah has so far cursed the early nation.
But still, Surief held a majority, and the country was held together by a very shaky political alliance. President Surief, during the war, needed an industrial source, a native manufacturing center that could supply the ongoing war. The problem was, however, that the industrial centers, even the ones in his territory, were owned by old money who had been tied to the previous kingdom. They wanted things the way they were, the old social structure, economic dominance, and a large hand in governemnt. But in the early years of the civil war, after the Battle of Bahrain, even with incoming international support, it looked to Surief like the Republican movement would be strangled in its crib without immediate supplies. So Surief cut a deal, in exchange for that industrial power, he would include some of those political beliefs into the new government. A deal he would come to greatly regret. No less than a year after the end of the war, those traditionalists that had helped Surief win a war, made their own political party against his wishes and attacked him fervently in the next elections. Putting a knife firmly in Surief's back, and perhaps in the countries hopes as well.
The never-ending divisiveness of Amackaban politics seems just that, never-ending, and harsh feelings may never give way at this rate. The 3 sides in politics seem militantly hostile to each other. And the current situation in the Ocean around Ulutor isn't helping. The Law says that as a member of the ACP, Amackaba is duty-bound to join in the defense of Ulutor. But there are 2 problems. 1, the interests of Amackaba are against it, a war this early could crush the republic and 2, could see it conquered by Sozkana. A large force next door does not bode well for victory, but not following an agreement made internationally could kill a legal standing or international trust in the nation. This decision needs to be made, but it cannot be made in this scenario. The country is domestically paralyzed and cannot move a limb until its leader is decided.

The President said in a statement that 'we need some peace and calm for some to come to terms with the election. Some have seen to create violence because of these elections results. And in this new country of ours, we cannot accept that kind of reaction. This is official enforcement of that idea to allow for cooler heads.' some have expressed their appreciation for this declaration. Many expressed that they are happy to avoid any violence. But some others have called for Suriefs head, calling this a 'suppression of civil liberties'. Such as the right to protest.

Kave Jonjisen, the leader of the Supreme Royal Command and the leader of the National Peace and Order Maintaining Council (the de facto leader of the Provisional Republic of Isaszia) delivered his "Leader's Address" to the people of Isaszia via radio and TV. Isaszia also sent broadcast signals all across Stelin, but we don't know if any stations picked the signals up.

Here is a transcript of the address;

"Greetings, the people of Isaszia. The people who are now fighting for their very lives. Isaszia may be a small nation, but our love of freedom will never let us accept defeat."

"Isaszia is a country of scenic beauty, enchanted lakes, and stately forests. A godly like land, we are people who work this land's wonderful soil, a peace-loving people living in harmony with their fellow Isaszian, in our simply way of life."

"Isaszia's cities are modern, pulsed with energy, industry, and progress. They are home to outstanding examples of architecture by Isaszia's famous architects."

"Isaszians are a people of honor, dedicated to the principles of democracy, Isaszia proudly met all of its debt payments last week, with an on time check."

"War has gripped our fair Isaszia, a war of oppression and subjugation; a war that has struck terror into the hearts of thousands of innocent Isaszians. The Kings and Queens of Sarvania have long oppressed the peoples in the lands they control; and Isaszia is the newest victim in their ruthless aggression."

"Our cities and countryside have been laid waste to by the ravages of the giant hordes of missiles, that rain death and destruction from above. Entire business districts have been wiped out, schools, churches, homes. Even our hospitals cannot escape the devastating onslaught of the Sarvanian king's missiles."

"As if aroused to the point of valor that transcends regular human bounds, brave little Isaszia fights on. And out of this chaos of darkness and despair, shines a light of hope. Today the world has witnessed one of those heroic stands of freedom for man, that come but few times in centuries."

"A government in war is faced with two tasks; the first is the fighting on the front, the second is the care of the civilian population; in modern war they are equally important. If the civilian population starves, or lose their morale, the army will fail. Every Isaszian civilian should bear this in mind."

"But beyond all that, we are fighting a war for our humanity. The needs of the Isaszian people were desperate under the Sarvanian kings, and they failed to meet those needs."

"We seek to change that. To liberate Isaszia from her former oppressors."
