Eh, better than underestimating it. If people didn't take it as seriously as they have, then the shutdowns would've come way too late and there would've been millions of cases in the United States, hospitals would've been overloaded, and people would've died on the streets. Because people stayed home, we prevented that scenario, and it seems like an overreaction. But if anything, it was an underreaction when considering just how bad things could've got if we didn't act.
Still, we were not a proactive as we could have been. Too many of our elected officials dragged their feet on calling for the quarantine and lives were lost. They were more interested in the economy than the health of the populous which has a direct effect on the economy.
