The Conventions of Aionia

Conventions of Aionia, as penned by Basileus Julian Paligos
--
The aim of this document is to provide a synthesis of the rules of international humanitarian law in-line with the Rights of Being within armed conflicts as contained in this legally binding document. Its laws and tenants are to be respected and upheld by all signatories.

As is thus noted here, any violations of the Conventions of Aionia during wartime efforts will result in an immediate 'Wanted Criminal' status being placed on the person, or persons, responsible. Depending on the lengths of their violations the punishment will range from trail and life imprisonment and execution without trial.

Targetted assaults on signatories via the use of anything noted below will be seen as a War Crime and will activate the built-in Casus Belli that calls to arms any and all signatories to put a boot to the offending country.

Laws of Definition within the Conventions;

[1] Persons unable to participate in combat, and those who do not take a direct part in hostilities, are entitled to respect for their lives and their moral and physical integrity. They shall in all circumstances be protected and treated humanely without any adverse distinction.

[2] The killing or purposeful injury of an enemy who surrenders or is functionally unable to participate in combat is forbidden without exception.

[3] The wounded and sick shall be taken in and cared for by the party of the conflict which has them in its power. Protection also covers medical personnel, establishments, transports, and equipment. The emblem of the red cross or the red crescent is the sign of such protection and must be respected. Any use of purposeful force against a wearer of the red cross is forbidden without exception.

[4] Captured combatants and civilians under the authority of an adverse party are entitled to respect for their lives, dignity, personal rights, and convictions. They shall be protected against all acts of violence and reprisals. They shall have the right to correspond with their families and to receive relief. Any violation of the aforementioned points is forbidden without exception.

[5] Everyone is entitled to benefit from a fundamental set of judicial guarantees. No one shall be held responsible for an act he has not committed. No one shall be subjected to physical or mental torture, corporal punishment, or cruel or degrading treatment. These points are to be upheld without exception.

[6] Parties within a conflict and members of their armed forces do not have an unlimited choice of methods and means of warfare. It is prohibited to employ weapons or methods of warfare of a nature to cause unnecessary losses or excessive suffering. Such weapons include bioweapons, those weapons designed specifically to instill fear, and nuclear weapons. These points are to be followed without exception.

[7] There shall be at all times a move to distinguish between the civilian population and combatants in order to spare civilian population and property. Neither the civilian population as such nor civilian persons shall be the object of an attack. Attacks shall be directed solely against military objectives and any violation of said points is forbidden without exception.

Banned weapons and practices;

[1] Biological weapons such as Mustard Gas; designed around the use of chemicals or natural reactions to induce horrendous and irreparable harm to soldiers in order to cause a purposeful loss of moral or surrender is forbidden on the grounds that they violate several Rights of Being via their use.

[2] The use of nuclear warheads, missile-bound or not, to devastate enemy troops, military infrastructure, and cities are forbidden on the grounds of the environmental, economic, and social impact these warheads will cause due to their unique radioactive and destructive properties.

[3] The practice of purposeful genocide against a select racial, religious, or gender based-group in order to ensure the eradication of their people is forbidden due to the fact that it is a disgusting practice put into place that removes biodiversity of the sentient species of Kalrania. Genocide is to include actions such as murder, purposeful starvation, and sterilization to ensure the miscarriage or failed birth of children.

[4] The capture and enforced servitude, or slavery of members of a population during war as 'spoils' is forbidden, because it is an outdated practice that calls back to a darker time in Kalranian history and leaves the people affected in situations where they are exposed to rape, bodily mutilation and various other violations of their Rights of Being.

[5] The use of torture on select swaths of a population in order to obtain 'order' and 'security' is a fundamentally flawed and disgusting practice that only violates their Rights of Being and is thus forbidden on the grounds of said violation.
