History of Ethnic Conflict in Jamilkhuze

Has ethnic cleansing ever occurred in your nation?
Yes. Most racial/ethnic/religious animosity among the current inhabitants of Jamilkhuze is a result of historical events that have shaped their cultural and/or ethnic identity.

Is it happening currently?
No. While there are occasional allegations of discrimination against certain groups of people, race/class relations among the people of Jamilkhuze are generally friendly, as well as among native Jamilkhuzis and foreigners.

Why did it occur?
Proximate cause: A divide-and-conquer mentality espoused by various stages of ruling elite
Ultimate cause: Racism against/among the various distinct racial, religious, and ethnic groups inhabiting Jamilkhuze, exacerbated by overpopulation and irreconcilable cultural differences.

Who were/are the perpetrators?
Pre-Settlement
1. Muslim West Asian conquerors against native South Asians in their own homeland
2. Hindu South Asians against Muslim South Asians and vice versa in their own homeland
3. Muslim/Christian traders and converts against "kafir" (i.e. infidel) East Asian peoples in their own homeland
4. French imperialism- beginning of indentured labor in French Terre-Australe, proselytizing French Catholicism and Greek Orthodox Christianity and encouraging small-scale immigration of Christian Arab, South Asian, and East Asian converts.
5. British imperialism- continuation of French policy in British Newsouthland and favoritism for settlers of West Asian/European ancestry over migrants of South Asian, Southeast Asian, and sub-Saharan ancestry. Significant contact with and unintentional extermination of the aboriginal population with infectious diseases.
6. Independence- political developments in Asia and Africa result in the dominance of South Asian Jamilkhuzis, assimilation of Arab Jamilkhuzis into the general population, and rising animosity toward Jamilkhuzis of other ancestry groups. Many Jamilkhuzis of European, Latin American, and sub-Saharan ancestry begin migrating southwards to the more temperate southwestern and southeastern portions of the continent.

Post-Settlement
7. Massive immigration of climate refugees from the now blatantly overpopulated countries of United India, Greater China, Vietnam, Philippines, Indonesia, Ethiopia, South Africa, Nigeria, Somalia, and other Asian and African countries causes unprecedented upheaval as Nouveau Yathrib is unable to absorb the massive waves of immigration that are often indifferent or hostile to the religious, social, and political order it represents. Lack of basic amenities and resources results in widespread communal violence.
8. The relative geopolitical clout of South Asia both before and during the waves of immigration, combined with animosity against China and smaller-scale immigration from Africa, results in the race-based cleavage between South- and East-Asian Jamilkhuzis overshadowing the cultural cleavage between the Abrahamic/universalist and Dharmic/pluralist camps within each ethnic and racial group. Communal violence gradually subsides due to assimilation of each ethnic bloc of refugees into Jamilkhuzi society, but becomes overtly race-based.
9. Entrenched caste politics and de facto apartheid against the "Mujahiris" (in particular the Khanwa, Jing, and Luzoni) under the previous government. Halted after the Civil War and establishment of the Republic.
