There are 5 Commands for the Mubatan Armed Forces: Northern, Eastern, Southern, Western and Yolenga, for the disputed Island off the Western coast currently occupied by Mubatan forces. The area commands on the mainland are configured in roughly an 'X' shape. The Western command is also Headquarters command, with the Ministry of Defense and several Army and Air Force facilities around the capital of Karalaga serving as the command and control for both Western command and the full military forces. The Northern command is the most active with the possible threat of renewed hostilies with Mansuriyyah islamic state imminent and border clashes not uncommon. Eastern and Southern commands are seen as reserve commands, with key units based closer to their borders with the Northern command in order to bolster Mubatan forces in repelling a Mansuriyyan invasion.
The Yolenga command came about in 1982, after full control was taken of the Island after defeating Mansuriyyan forces during the war known as the Vita Kubwa. The Yolenga front was successful, and the Mubatans had prepared well in advance for such a conflict to be able to seize the Island. The invasion of Yolenga Island was reportedly executed very near to plan. However, the northern front on the mainland border shared with Mansuriyyah was very bloody and devastating to Mubatan forces. The Mansuriyyans were able to defeat initial defenses and penetrate deep through the desert into the center and west of the Republic by the time of the cessation of hostilities. Attempts to reorganize defenses have sinced been enacted to avoid a repeat of the defeats during the Vita Kubwa.
In addition to external threats, the Mubatan forces have fought insurgencies both on the mainland and on Yolenga Island, with the struggle against the MFM (Mubatan Freedom Movement) a Marxist insurgency, being the longest conflict and one that has wavered but never ended since the Independence from colonial rulers. The insurgencies on Yolenga have also involved MFM elements, along with other ethnic Zama and Mansurriyan allies. All land based military commands have been involved in fighting the insurgencies, as well as naval support from the Northern fleet used to put down the Yolenga insurgency.
