Imperial Cabinet
The Imperial Cabinet is the senior decision-making body of the Imperial Government which is a committee of the Imperial Council. It is chaired by the Prime Minister and its members include Ministers of State and other senior ministers. Members of the Cabinet are appointed by the Prime Minister and are, by convention, members of the House of Commons. Ministers are bound by the convention of collective ministerial responsibility. A single minister can hold more than one portfolio, but this is uncommon in modern Artarumen politics. The Prime Minister decides the membership and attendance of the Cabinet. As the Cabinet is a committee of the Imperial Council, all Cabinet ministers are required to be Councillors as well. Members of the Cabinet are chosen from the House of Commons by convention, though appointments were made from both houses of the Imperial Parliament until 1867.
Upon the Prime Minister's approval, senior civil servants and advisers may attend Cabinet meetings, but may not take part in discussions.
Almost all Cabinet meetings take place in the Prime Minister's Offices at 8 Halford Avenue in Liudan; they have rarely been held in other places, usually due to inconvenience or natural disasters.
Traditionally, regular Cabinet meetings are held on Mondays and usually last around one and a half hours to two hours. Under Prime Minister William Rumsworth, they have been known to take as little as half an hour on occasion.
As of 1 January 2024, the current Cabinet in order of traditional precedence is as follows:
