The Austro-Germanic Union, German: Deutschland, pronounced [ˈdɔʏtʃlant], formally known as the Imperial Federation of the Austro-Germanic Union, is a Federal Constitutional Monarchy that is located in Eastern Usonea. It is one of the most populous states of the Continent, and is the most populous in the Usonean Common Market. Due to its peninsular nature, the Austro-Germanic Union is largely surrounded by the Erinevo Ocean, but features land a border with one other nation, the Tongan Empire, with the rest of of its borders as a frontier between the established and what is little more than terra Incognita. Additionally, the Austro-Germanic Union also shares maritime borders with the 5 Kingdoms of Britannia. Along with this, it shares borders with Kingstar via the North Osean Concession Territory. The Austro Germanic Union has a population of a little over 285 million within its four kingdoms and 14 federal states. The Capital of the Austro-Germanic Union is Berlin, and the largest city is Genneuzen. The largest urban center is the Coastal Belt. It also features Hasselt as its major financial hub, and cities such as Rostock, Königsberg, and Danzig as major cities and shipbuilding sectors.

The Austro-Germanic Union is a global power within strangereal, notable for being one of the last major colonial empires in the world. Fashioning itself as such with its large and robust economy, dynamic and flexible foreign policy, and powerful military, which is considered one of, if not the most powerful in the world. Domestically it’s also considerably robust and successful, featuring a strong welfare net, universal healthcare, and a robust democratic system that has been fostered despite autocratic governments taking power from time to time.

The overall geography of the Austro-Germanic Union can be called largely complex. Situated on eastern Usonea, it calls the central peninsula it’s own, and is bordered on most of its sides by the Erinevo Ocean. Aside from that, it features the prominent Hösten Isthmus that divides the eastern and western parts of the mainland. It’s climate can be called rather temperate, featuring a relatively cool climate that marks temperatures of 24.4-25°C, Allowing for a gentle but relatively stable climate, seeing frequent precipitation in the summers and winters. For said summers the temperatures can rise to 26.6-28.8°C, often thawing out much of the colder areas. And for the winters, they can often find themselves dropping regularly to temperatures below freezing for extended stretches of time. While it can thaw out to temperatures as high as 14°C, it typically rises no more than 5°C. These frigid temperatures are fed by cool ocean currents, but can typically give way rapidly once the seasonal currents shift. The prominent feature is the Salichen Mountains, a stretch of mountains that often run through the peninsula, and feature year round snowfall and frigid temperatures, and come carrying the highest elevation, being the peak of the Dufourspitze, which climbs to 4,634m in height. The lowest point is near Nuendorf-Sachsenbande, in the Hösten Isthmus. This low point has been measured at 3.54m below sea level, and is actually intersected by the Mittelmark Canal. Aside from these high and low points, there is also the relatively flat/level stretches of plains, prairie, and grasslands to the west, which feature the massive waterway of the Valbrecht River, which runs through the country, and is fed by the Salichen Mountains, and empties into the Erinevo near the city of Freidrichshaven.

This river is noted for its depth and length, and it being reinforced as it flows through the Hösten Isthmus, as in the past it was threatened to have it lose half of its length as it was dangerously close to breaking its banks and beginning to empty out from the Isthmus. The subsequent reinforcements to the ground and the surrounding infrastructure have mostly led to the end of the Mittelmark Canal’s existence, but has secured the water security of the peninsula proper and chunks of the economy through the Mittelmark Artificial River Bank. A sister river is also noted in branching out and emptying in the north, being extremely wide but shallow, being regarded by many names before its current moniker of the Grasnau. The final major geographic features is the extensive forests, having been protected extensively since the 19th century, and recovering from extensive logging in the previous centuries. While these forests vary from the more evergreen and conifer dominated forests near the mountains, to the temperate and deciduous forests that dominate the lowlands. Often seen is the stretches of untouched old growth forests, such as the Black Forest and the Bol Forest, both feature some of the largest remaining trees in the nation.

When it comes to the colonial

Demographics of the Austro-Germanic Union are considerably diverse, but are mainly dominated by Germanic ethnicities. Primarily this is of what is considered the “core” ethnic group of the union, which are the Low Germans. Low Germans primarily follow Austro-German Trinitism, speak the Low German dialects, and are considerably more liberal than other groups within the union, and historically dominated the Unions government, staffing most positions of power and enforcing a culture war to suppress the Upper Germans and later on the Zlínnic and Lechian peoples as well, largely sparing the Duits, who were culturally similar. The Upper Germans are the second major German group in the Union. Speaking the Upper German dialects that have middling intelligibility with Low Germans, they were considered for a while the lesser or junior partners within the union, despite ostensible equality, faced with a culture war against their own customs and practices, and especially their religion, which is Rovigian Trinitism. By the end of Ferdinand Is rule however, they saw unprecedented upwards mobility and managed to direct repression away from them and to the Lechians and Zlínnic people. The third major group are the Lechians, a non Germanic Slavic people with their own history, culture, and customs that were nominally conquered by the Union during the Lechian Wars in the 1880s. Nominally facing repression for decades, they successfully ended the culture wars against them, and saw advances within the government as time went on. The same can be said for the Zlínnic people, who largely were also conquered with the Lechian Wars of expansion.
