Honourist Republic
The Honourist Republic (Estandér: República Honorista de Estandé), simply known as the República Honorista (Estandér: República Honorista) and, uncommonly, the Third Republic (Estandér: Terceira República), was a short-lived attempt by the military and Honourists to create a one-party state under the Honourist Party. The assassinations of President Miguel Cuimbro and Vice President António de Castro, supposedly carried out by communist forces, created a power vacuum in the country. The Balas Crisis that preceded it was such a shock for the government that the reactionary leadership of the military was given ultimate power over most national decisions. Thus, utilising the nascent 'red scare' and powerful military, the Honourist Party cooperated with Chief of the General Staff Santiago Montenegro to overthrow the transitioning government, which was done on 29 November 2030.
