The Anteria

The Third Confederation of the Anteria, commonly called the Anteria, is an confederated conservative-majority democracy in the Continental Sea. It is bordered on all sides by ocean but shares close sea connections to the New Obsidian Isles, the USSNDR, and the Arreterez Holding Company. The Anteria covers a fair amount of square kilometers and has has an estimated population of four-hundred and ninety-five million. The Anteria is comprised of three Confederate Territories which each have between two to four states.

The Confederation is most prominently known for it's gargantuan naval presence and military prowess, not to mention it's expansive livestock, fishing, and mining industries. Focusing on beef, mackerel, and a series of expansive metals, these three industries are the Confederation's stable legs, giving it a fairly decent-sized economy for a comfortable average wage and living standard. The Anteria has maintained a fairly neutral world stance for most of its existence, but has begun to make an extremely abrupt uproar of technological advancement and militarization after the closing of the War of the Third Coalition.

Etymology

The Anteria simply means 'center of seas' and was used to describe the fact that the islands sit in the direct center of the Continental Sea.. The word became popularized during the 1400s with the creation of the First Confederation, with the Anteria being a word that could be used to describe the entirety of the lands without singling one group out as the superior or dominant ethnicity or group.

The standard way to refer to a citizen of the Anteria is as an "Anterian" or as their ethnic name.

History

Geography

The Anteria has varying degrees of geography, which are generally categorized as: The Hávax Mountain Cluster, the Three Prairies, and the Southern Bank. Each area varies in climate and geography given the Anteria's extremely peculiar climate patterns, and the environment/ecosystem of each also varies drastically.

The Hávax Mountain Cluster
While the origins of such a curious amount of mountain ranges and peaks are still being studied to this day, almost the entirety of Troðheim is made up of various mountain ranges. These mountains are a pleasant mixture of deathly tundra and peacefully green valleys, mountains are steep and tall, snow-capped with little vegetation and a bleak gray. In between these mountains, however, are pockets of green valleys filled with trees, shrubbery, and grass. These valleys are usually coupled with melted snow runoff which forms small streams that flow into these valleys and were the basis for forming tribal communities and then entire villages in these valleys.

The Three Prairies
While actually a single massive plane of rolling hills and steppes rich with black earth and plenty of rainfall, the name 'Three Prairies' was given to the area because the steppes were divided into three between the three most powerful Tavinian farmer tribes during the factionalization of the Anteria. While these three tribes have long now meshed into the wider Tavinian ethnic group, the term 'Three Prairies' stuck. This area, mostly made up of black earth steppes, is rich farming land and home to the Tavinians. Rich with plenty of rainfall and sunlight, it makes the entire central region of the Anteria perfect for raising crop and livestock.

The Isle of Cape
Moving to the west of the Three Prairies, you'll hit the Isle of Cape, a long island with central mountain ranges and surrounding beautiful forests. The mountain range, the Kapinsel Mountains, is one of extreme ore richness, with trillions of tonnages worth of palladium, gold, silver, and aluminum. This mountain range is less like the Hávax Mountain Cluster, much greener with pine and fir trees and tons of shrubbery and snow-capped tops. Around these mountains, a rich forestry all the way to the coast with steep cliff drop offs. These forests are protected under the Flora and Fauna Protection Law, so forestry is heavily restricted. Given such, the region survives mostly on city-based textile and weapons factories along with refineries and mines from the mountains.

While each territory is subject to varying, a generalized climate agreement is that the Anteria has wet, cold winters and dry, mild summers. Troðheim almost exclusively see extremely heavy snowfall in winter with heavy stream flow in summer. Tavinia, on the other hand, gets loads of rainfall during the colder winter months, but has humid summer months during harvest. The Isle of Cape gets a steady downpour during winter as well, but has far drier summers than Tavinia, with cool breezes and plenty of sun.

The ecosystems of each region vary mildly, but overall they share a fairly similar temperate base level, with the Cape being almost entirely covered by coastal coniferous forestry along with the Hávax Mountain Cluster, however the valleys are more varied, with shrubbery and grasses as well. The Three Prairies is an in-between of sorts, home only to the grasses of the black earth for hundreds of miles. These lands are mainly inhabited by non-domesticated small mammals such as rabbits, coyotes, and bison. Aside from these wild animals, cattle, pigs, and sheep are the largest groups of livestock. Crops such as barley, corn, and potatoes are large exports as well as dairy products and textile products.

Demographics

Language
There are three major language groups in the Anteria, which are Troðís, Tavinian, and Inselese. The Troðís was an origination from Noraennt, the two languages are frighteningly similar though and while having almost completely different grammar styles, a poll say that three out of four people from either group can understand the other. Thanks to its linguistic isolation, Troðís has retained certain lost text scripts. Tavinian is almost directly related to Obsidianese and only varies in a few minor ways. Using the Cyrillic alphabet and speaking in a deep, guttural tone, many Obsidianese could understand them. Finally, the Inselese are a curiosity; closely related to the Verleschdians ethnically, they were also linguistically isolated from most of the world, and this led to the formation of a language which varied mildly from Verleschdian.

Religion

With a population majority of 79% Protestant and a remainder 13% Pagan, 5% Orthodox, and 3% Agnostic/Atheist, the Anteria is a very Christian-based nation, which also explains their deep-rooted conservative values and mannerisms. The Anteria has gone through a few momentous religious changes, while majority Pagan, the Ógnin Praefectus led to the forced transitioning and murder of Pagans across the Anteria. After the collapse of the Praefectan Empire, the Orthodox Lynch, a response to forced Orthodox transition and a major step into the creation of the Protestant. While Protestantism became majorly popular due to the Praefectan Christianization, many in the far north returned to their Pagan roots, and thus, the generalized boundaries of religion were established.

The Protestant Church is only a far majority in the Anteria, and is the result of forced Orthodoxy brutalization, and was a response to the traditionalist Orthodox and Catholic movements around them. While Protestantism is fairly resembled to Catholicism, its take on the Holy Bible has been slightly reformatted, removing certain books and adding a few of their own in its place. While Protestantism is extremely popular in the Anteria, the Confederate Government has a vow of secularism in making decisions, but such a vow is very solemnly held to its word.

Government

Built as a Two-Party Confederated Democracy, the nation confederate government is fairly mid-sized but weak in power over a vast area, while the confederate territorial governments can manage their own affairs in their own territory without the (major) intrusion of the national government. A two-party two round majoritarian voting system is in place when voting for territorial sovereigns and members of the upper and lower houses. When voted in, these sovereigns and representatives then vote in a Sovereign of the Anteria, who will then run the national affairs while the sovereigns can discuss inter-territorial relations and such. The territories have control over certain things such as the overall police force, public infrastructure, as well as territorial laws and regulations. The national confederate government has control over the military, trade, and national tax standards among other things.

Foreign Relations and Military

While the Confederate Government is more concerned about inter-territory relations and affairs, the honest need for exterior relations is almost required for any nation to function properly in a world-wide sense. While staunch and arrogant towards other diplomats and nations, the Anteria holds itself to a standard and seeks relations between a few select nations on the world stage. Possibly their most important partner, the United Kingdom of Miotia-Candor. Mutual trade partners, exporting food products and precious metals in exchange for healthcare products and electronic equipment, the two nations aren't exactly close in relations but are relatively calm and can manage to work together when needed. Aside from the UKMC, the Anteria has blossoming relations with the Feng, the Thengdom, and North Electrica while they maintain fairly chilly relations with Novoroyska and Ovstylap.

The Armed Forces of the Confederation of Anteria, commonly called the Confederated Armed Forces, is a mid-sized force with a heavy focus on naval applications, complimented by a ground force to support and drive land invasions and incursions as well as a small but extremely effective air force which has an assortment of air superiority fighters and interceptors second only to the Candorians. The armed forces has only recently seen the priority of the national government's tax dollars, with the closure of the Macedon Wars bring a heavy wave of ultra-nationalism and militarism amongst the greater population. This 'Endurreisn Stríðsins', or Renaissance of War, brought national security and militarism to the forefront of the national government, and such saw the increased funding and recruitment. The unmanageable militarist climb came to its peak with the 1992 Halivasia Coup d'état and the establishment of the military government. After the dissolution of the military government with the 2001 10-7 Deal, the Third Confederation publicly announced recruitment capping, military funding cuts, and power limitations. Reality was different, secret naval projects led to ships of the next generation, fighters of unimaginable agility and prowess, and a skilled military with best-of-its-class training.

An agrarian-dominant economy with major support from the mining/refining industry as well as textile manufacturing, the Anterian economy is large enough and stable enough to allow for a decent wage and standard of living for the average Anterian. Majorly driven by small, private business such as independent fisheries, farms, and on-road transporters in tandem with big textile, mining, and packing companies, the Anterian economy is diverse and healthy, allowing for fluctuation with minimal recession and growth to allow for local stability and minimize unemployment.

Culture

The Anteria, in short, has three major cultural deviations. While they can be similar in some ways, they are very different in others. Unanimously understood, the Anteria is a tight-knit community of different peoples from different background. The Anteria is not a family. It is almost impossible to solidify the Anteria into a singular cultural identity, everything from the foods they eat to the way their cities are designed is completely different from ethnicity to ethnicity.

Infrastructure

Anterian infrastructure is peculiar in and of itself, a mixture of heavy non-industrialization with pockets of heavy urbanization, each city is usually massive, supporting large populations contrary to the expansive farmlands and small villages across the rest of country. With such large spaces between each city, a large interconnected road network connects each city and production hub, with public transportation more popular in the far north for going in-between the dangerous mountain passes. Cities are almost always designed with industry in mind first, as these are the original basis' in mind when their constructions had begun. Often in Tavinia, massive meat packing plants and canning facilities are seen near city center, with large apartment blocks and meters upon meters of suburbs. However, city planning also recognizes commercial services as well, and often malls and shopping centers filled with small and big businesses scatter the cities to alleviate public stress and give outlet to spending and public happiness.

Energy

Powered generally by renewable geothermal power stations and nuclear energy, the Anteria has seen a major shift from fossil fuel-fired power plants to renewable energies in the 1960s with major discoveries in nuclear energy and geothermal energy, which had been expanded on during the occupation. While geothermal energy is far more popular in the north where there is heavy volcanic activity, nuclear plants dot most of the central plains, but in a peculiar fashion. During the heyday of fossil fuels, power generation stations were eyesores to the public. Beautiful farmlands destroyed by a massive oil-fired power station. When the major destruction of oil and coal-fired plants came around, the transition to nuclear and geothermal saw a peculiar architecture method. In order to avoid the eyesore of massive nuclear power plants dotting the fields, the national government filed the approval of scores of farmers and began to dig massive holes, acres wide, in farm fields. After reinforcing the exterior of the holes with steel and mortar and laying concrete flooring and foundation, the construction of the underground nuclear power plants had began. These power plants were made to be massive but relatively compact in space usage to allow for high power output at minimal land used. After constructing them and closing out the hole, laying earthen supports and relaying black earth, the plants were sold off to three major energy companies.
