The Founding

The Navy of San Rosito was founded two years prior to independence from Espicuta. It was formed from a collection of privately owned ships and hastily purchased foreign vessels, courtesy of the wealthier entrepreneurs and landowners who saw independence as the best way to halt Espicutan economic control and taxation.

Early Leadership

The first Admiral, appointed by the Free Congress of San Rosito was Diego Arévalo, who had previously served with distinction in the Espicutan Southern Colonial Fleet that had plied Teremaran and Wishtonian waters for centuries. Having ingrained knowledge of Espicutan naval tactics enabled him to lead the fledgling San Rositan navy to victory in most of their engagements with the undermanned naval garrison in Southeast Madurin.

The fact that Arévalo had turned on years of service with the Espicutan Monarchy was not forgotten, and the besieged governor put a large bounty on his head, trying to entice Asuckian and other privateers to do some of their fighting for them, until they could get reinforcements into the area. There were few takers and none who succeeded.

The Great Wars

San Rosito attempted to steer clear of the Continental Wars that rocked Teremara during the mid-20th century, mostly with success, although they did have to fight for that neutrality at points and protect shipping from belligerent submarines and surface raiders.

The Civil War

There were divided loyalties within the navy, but for the most part, it remained intact. The Navy saw very little action during the Civil War, mostly remaining at dock, but for some brief bombardment of rebels from the coast in major areas of fighting around Puerto Cristal, Nueva Vista. As many of the crews loyalties became challenged upon word of the excesses of the Nationalist government, they convinced their commanders, sometimes at gunpoint, to retreat to Las Tres Chicas islands, away from the fighting.

Chibalba and New Beaufort

Much of the last hundred years of the San Rositan Navy, and the whole Republic, was spent in small engagements with their neighbors to the West, North and East. Sometimes even allying with bitter rivals to team up on the socialist heathens in Chibalba, but more often by themselves taking on one, then the other, and sometimes both of their neighbors at the same time. While holding their own, the navy did suffer from humiliating losses. The experiences toughened up the San Rositan military, and especially the Navy, for future engagements, and participation in peacekeeping actions in Tavlyria.

The Modern Navy

In an effort to overhaul the navy and project real power, especially towards their northern neighbor, the Defense Ministry began to refit and modernize the boats they had, as well as order more ships. By 2007, a major part of the military budget was getting funneled towards the navy, with smaller portions towards the air force and army. They bought ships from Consortia, Umberlee, and Royal Marquesan shipyards to replace many of the aging ships from previous decades. As much as could be sold off was, as replacements soon came on line. What couldn't be sold was turned into scrap or used for naval and air force targeting drills.

They were just in time to contribute some of their new ships to the coalition effort in Qasifya to defeat the QLA and Islamic radical warlords there, or at least put a dent in their terror operations. The Destroyer Punta de Lanza saw action as it pounded enemy positions with missile barrages, as part of the coalition fleet. It was the first San Rositan warship to see action outside of Madurin in decades.

Pivoting from Qasifya, as that wound down, San Rosito was able to contribute even more ships to the TSO coalition that drove back the Yellow Star Republic and Osatana from their invasion of Glisandia and Jumnia. The San Rositans were not used to operating in frigid conditions, but a lot of solid lessons were learned for the future should they need to join another TSO coalition in Arctic comparable waters.

Seeing likely upcoming engagements on the horizon with Chibalba, Beaufort, and Vionna-Frankenlisch, the San Rositan navy began to conduct major exercises, practicing amphibious landings on 'Los Tres Chicas', the islands south of Nueva Vista - Rosalinda, Georgina, and Carlita. The Naval air force ran constant patrols and flights to give their pilots as much airtime as possible. The training budget, along with acquisitions had greatly increased. Some of the top pilots joined their counterparts in the regular air force in heading to the private USG Military Aviation Academy, where they were able to get even more extensive training with some of the top pilots from around the world, if at a steep cost.

The Latest Chibalban Border Conflict & Blockade

In 2022, after some provocations at the border and strong rhetoric coming from Itzman (Capital of Chibalba), the San Rositans began to mobilize, but with an ulterior motive beyond just fending off their western neighbor. A major amount of planning went into the next year and all military operations, especially the fleets. The Middle Waters fleet was mobilized and sent into the waters they shared to put siege to Chibalba. This put added pressure on the Chibalbans as General Arenas of the Council went to negotiate and put diplomatic pressure on them. After fruitful discussions, a return to status quo was agreed upon, along with concessions and new trade agreements between the two nations.

Word has never been definite if the Middle Waters fleet would have actually followed through on laying waste to southern Chibalba had things turned south, but they certainly had a stranglehold on the southern coast enough to scare the Chibalbans into running to the table. As things began to quiet down, the Middle Waters fleet recalled patrols and turned back southeast.

Operation Barracuda

Instead of docking at their home port of Luzagrada after lifting the Chibalban Blockade, the Middle Waters Fleet broke south and crossed the Yarok Line into the Wishton Sea. Operation Barracuda was initiated. Additional air and naval assets were mobilized, and the Army was not de-mobilized from the border crisis, and instead shifted to air bases to begin air lifting.

The government of Vionna-Frankenlisch continued to ignore a looming deadline set by the Republic to exit Kenega. Rather than wait for the deadline, the San Rositan military launched attacks with cruise missiles and air strikes, disabling the major Kenegan and Imperial (Frankenlischian) military facilities around the Island. Paradrop and helo assaults followed, along with amphibious landings at both Kenega City and Terlenga. The Middle Waters fleet continued to eliminate enemy ships at the Kenegan ports and coasts while supporting the expanding beach head. The operation was completed with the taking of the last Imperial garrisons at Faronham and Wexborough. The Middle Waters fleet again participating in fire support from the waters near the ports.

As most of Kenega fell under San Rositan rule, the Middle Waters fleet moved to the SW waters off Kenega to prepare for an expected counterattack. Patrol boats and submarines roved the coasts in order to intercept enemy infiltration of troops or supplies. A possible attack on Owaya was planned to further expand San Rositan holdings in the Wishton and shut down the Frankenlischian bases there that threatened them. The Middle Waters Fleet would again be a crucial part of offensive operations, while part of the Southern Madurin Fleet would relieve them to take over operations around Kenega.
