Smart Cities Mission envisions developing an area within the cities in the country as model areas based on an area development plan, which is expected to have a rub-off effect on other parts of the city, and nearby cities and towns. As of Jan 2024, 100 cities have been identified for this project.
Each city will create a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), headed by a full-time CEO, to implement the Smart Cities Mission.
The infrastructure of Smart Cities include highest standard of roads, connectivity to Port and also connection to railways. Urban planning will be given priority with industries setting up far from residential Area. The whole city will be powered from renewable source of Energy. Only EV will be allowed to run on these roads and charging station will be setup at every 1 km distance. Also 24 hrs supply of electricity and water will be ensured. Various recreation projects such as park, cricket ground etc will be setup in each city.
