Emergency Supplies heading to Biwaki

The first of 10 emergency supplies shipments to Biwaki departs today

The first plane full of medical supplies from Volaworand has left for Hescara, Biwaki to bolster its battle against the virus outbreak.

According to Minister of External Affairs, Kamla Patelwill, the first shipment of gloves, gowns, and masks, departed from Marambio Airfield on Sunday to be distributed in Biwaki, which has been battling the largest ARES-22 virus outbreak in The South Pacific. The shipment is one of 10 planeloads paid for by the federal government and private donors and scheduled over the next month to address shortages of personal protective equipment. The Southern Transportation Corporation and the Royal Dominion Naval Defence Forces Snowflake Response Unit are coordinating logistics.

“At Acting Prime Minister Alan Duncan’s direction we formed an unprecedented public-private partnership to ensure that massive amounts of masks, gear and other personal protective equipment will be brought to Biwaki immediately to better equip health care workers on the front lines and to stop the spread of this virus,” Patelwill explained.

In total, the first shipment contained around 130,000 N-95 masks, 1.8 million surgical masks and gowns, 10.3 million gloves, and 70,000 thermometers. Most of the supplies are headed to hospitals, but the remainder will go to nursing homes filled with high-risk patients.

Biwaki has been one of the hardest-hit nations in the region. As of Thursday, the nation had more than 301,442 confirmed cases of the coronavirus and 98,659 deaths.
