TV Debate About New National Policy: ID Chips (II)

Welcome back to Reporting to the Lion's Den, we are here today with Davin Rosthus, spokesperson of the Aeraven Aristocratic People's Alliance (AAPA), and Maria Catharsi, President of youth NGO, Feminists for Aeraven. Before the break, Miss Catharsi questioned Mr. Rosthus if stealing is still a crime when it fills someone's stomach. We will let Davin answer the question then continue the debate from there. After that we will talk about a new problem in the previously installed ID Chips.

Davin: See, before being a crime, stealing is wrong morally; whether it is to fill your stomach or to fill someone else's. With Miss Catharsi's logic, a man killing another man to fill his own stomach should also be acceptable, right?

Laughter, clapping and hooting is heard from the audience.

Maria: You have gone on a whole other tangent to prove your point! How is stealing affecting another person the way killing is?

Davin: How is stealing not affecting another person, ma'am? The person selling that food is running a business, you are affecting his business by stealing from his store.

Maria: And he is making a lot of money already, one person stealing from him will not make a dent in his wallet. The rich and wealthy shouldn't be pitied anyway.

Davin: That is very disgusting; your empathy only emerges for the poor. And if the same poor person becomes rich one day, they lose your empathy.

Audience claps.

Anchor: Maria?

Maria: Shakes her head and chuckles in disapproval.

Anchor: Since Maria has nothing more to say, we will move to our two audience questions for the day. First we have from Memphis Stacy of New horensian kingdom, with a question for our guest today, Mr. Davin Rosthus. Memphis says, "I am a 16 year old girl from a town in Horensia. I want to know why my Aeravanese friends are held back from enjoying the same civil rights as me, despite all of us belonging to the same free region of Spiritus?" Over to you David.

David: Well, to answer your question, Memphis, two nations in the same region can function differently, just like two nations on the same continent, or same planet. Spiritus unites us in our...love for potatoes, and our spirit to fight for the welfare of each and every potato in the world. But we cannot be united in our political thoughts. But also, different methods work for different populaces, and no method is wrong.

Audience claps.

Anchor: Our next question is for Miss Maria Catharsi from Rubias Joseph of Psicathia. Rubias writes, I am a student of gynecology from the Holy Empire of Psicathia; this is not exactly a question but I just wanted to say I am very inspired by your speeches and spirit. I want to thank you and your organization in starting a civil movement, and speaking about problems faced by women in our society. My grandmother passed away 22 years ago from stage 4 breast cancer. She never spoke about it to anyone because talking about such problems faced by women was considered a taboo, in the town she grew up in. If she had people like you to guide her back then, maybe she would have lived a little more.

Maria: Wipes tears. Thank you for your message Rubias. I'm sorry to hear about your grandmother, but it inspires me to work even harder each day to help prevent many such cases. Hearing I inspire you makes me feel like I have made a difference in the world. And that is exactly why I wake up each day.

Anchor: That was very heart touching, thank you for your letters and thank you Maria and Davin. With that we end our debate for today, and now coming back to the ID Chips, and a new problem that has emerged with them, causing havoc among citizens. Complaints have come up of people allegedly exploding due to a malfunction in the Chips. While many hoped this complaint would make the government revert their decision, it seems to have different plans. In recent news, research funds have been allotted to the development of the ID Chips, and to prevent future accidents. Looks like the government is firm on their decision to control the populace, and isn't giving in any sooner. Well it is 2200 hours on the clock now and with this we will end our episode for today. Thank you for joining us, and once again you can participate in our show by sending in your own questions, that our guests will answer at the end of the episode. You can send in questions everyday from between 0700 hours to 1900 hours via our Email ID listed at the bottom of our screen, or drop a message to any of the numbers listed below.
