Office of the Consulate - Regional Nominations and Elections - July of 2021

Introduction & Media:

The League nominations and electoral referenda for the Council of the Republic are to take place beginning July 8th and ending July 13th (Eastern Standard Time). As this is the beginning of a nomination and contesting cycle, all Delegate terms have ended, and citizens may be nominated for either a one-month or two-month term.

Deadlines:

July 8th - Must be a citizen to nominate or be nominated. Nominations open.
July 13th - Nominations and contesting close. Must have reached nomination quorum to move forward. Election Confirmation poll commences. Must be a citizen to have an eligible vote.
July 14th - Consulate nominates a Council Delegate from the incumbent delegates to be Speaker of the Council and initiates voting procedures to confirm them.

Nominations and Contestings:

Nominations and contesting will take place from the start of July 8th until the end of the 12th in the Capitol of The League on the Discord Server. As mandated by the Constitution, to be voted on by the public, one must receive three nominations by fellow citizens of the League. One can be nominated for either a one-month or two-month term. Those reaching quorum will proceed to electoral confirmation. However, if in addition to three or more nominations, if one is also contested three or more times, they will be given an individual vote on the Discord Server, and those without three contentions will be voted on as a group.

Speaker of the Council of the Republic Election

Once the Council Confirmation vote ends, the Consulate will nominate a Council Delegate for the position of Speaker of the Council to be voted on by the Council of the Republic. The Consulate may set requirements for the Speaker of the Council position, which include:

A citizen seeking to be Speaker of the Council must be eligible to be a Council Delegate, and will be eliminated from consideration if they do not become one for the term of Speakership they are seeking.
The Speaker of the Council may not hold other executive leadership posts as determined by the Consulate.
Nominees to be Speaker of the Council must have not have served two consecutive cycles as Speaker of the Council within the last three Council cycles.

Electoral Confirmation:

At the beginning of July 13th, the Office of the Consulate will create a Regional Poll open for voting for the main group of those who have reached quorum. In either the group or individual votes, as the Constitution mandates, a simple majority is necessary for those being voted on to take office. After the conclusion of the Election Confirmation, the Consulate will update Discord roles and other functions accordingly.

Speaker of the Council Election:

Once a new Council of the Republic is sworn in on July 14th, the Consulate will nominate a Council Delegate to be Speaker of the Council, a legislative office tasked with encouraging new legislation and the improvement of standing legislation, and then initiate voting procedures for the incumbent Council of the Republic to confirm the nominee. The Consulate will oversee and continue the process until a Speaker of the Council is selected with the consent of a majority of the Council of the Republic. If majority consent is not gained, the Consulate will nominate a different Delegate and initiate a vote in the outlined process until a Speaker is confirmed.
