THE IMPERIAL ARMED FORCES

The Imperial Armed Forces (대한 제국군) are the armed forces of the Great Korean Empire. The Imperial Armed Forces are one of the largest standing militaries in the world, with a reported strength of over 3,000,000 personnel. The Imperial Armed Forces were founded 1897 as part of the Gwangmu Reform, and were dissolved under the Japan-Korea Treaty of 1910. The reestablishment of the Imperial Armed Forces came in 1948.

Command of the Imperial Armed Forces is established under the Yushin Constitution. The monarch is the commander in chief of the Imperial Armed Forces, and authority then runs to the Defense Minister. The Defense Minister supervises the Chairman of the Imperial Military Staff and the chief of staff of each service of the Imperial Armed Forces. To coordinate military strategy with political affairs, the monarch has a Board of War which consists of the Defense Minister, the Prime Minister, an Imperial Advisor for Defense, and the Chairman of the Imperial Military Staff.

The Imperial Military Staff consist of the chiefs of staff for each service branch, and is led by the Chairman of the Imperial Military Staff, a four-star general who maintains operational control of all active military units and reports directly to the Defense Minister.

The Imperial Korean Army

The Imperial Korean Army is the army of the Great Korean Empire. It is the largest service branch of the Imperial Armed Forces and is responsible for ground-based warfare. It's sized is maintained through conscription--Korean men ages 18-35 must serve a minimum of 18 months in the military.

Operational command of the Imperial Korean Army stems from the Chief of the Army Staff, who reports to the Chairman of the Imperial Military Staff.

The Imperial Korean Army includes the Imperial Guard, which functions as an independent special forces command and personal protection unit for the monarchy.

The Imperial Korean Air Force (IKAF) is the air-warfare service branch of the Imperial Korean Armed Forces. It is responsible for maintaining the integrity of Korean imperial airspace.
