Airport Security Act of 2021.

What is the Airport Security Act of 2021?

In wake of recent plane hijackings by terrorist organizations such as ISIS and Al Qaeda, the parliament of South Africa has passed legislation to improve airport security and among their airlines. The Airport Security Act requires tighter security checks, such as baggage searching, an x-ray, and a background check prior to coming to the airport, items such as bladed tools or firearms are not allowed in baggage without prior approval and will be temporarily confiscated until the passenger returns to the airport from their trip. All flights must have at least one armed security guard on board the plane to defend against any potential hijackers, they are armed with standard non-lethal weaponry such as a taser, an extendable baton, and a handgun, the handgun may only used in emergency situations such as if the hijacker has a firearm themself, security guards are required to be trained with this firearm as to not accidentally shoot out a window which may endanger the rest of the crew as a result. If at any time in the future the situation changes, the Airport Security Act may be made inactive to loosen security on airliners and at airports, but until then the legislation is active.
