Re-elect Volaworand: "My"* Story

Polls Now Open | Cast Your Vote Today: page=poll/p=166692

With polls now open, I humbly ask for your vote. I will:
  • maintain the mostly hands off approach to moderation, keeping the RMB welcoming, fun and safe.

  • lower the inactivity exception for multi-posting from 60 minutes to 20 minutes.

  • up my game posting fun and frivolous polls (since Auphelia will be out of office due to term limits).

  • keep a level head and use good judgement.

Re-elect Volaworand 2020 - WHO WHAT WHY
This is who I am, this is where I’ve been, and this is why I’m running.1

Where I Come From

I was born in Houston, Texas in 19522. My mother was a traditional housewife and my father was an immigration lawyer3. My parents were world travelers, taking my brother Peter, my late sister Jane and me traveling with them around the world when we were children.4 The fact that I1 traveled internationally at such a young age5 made me a different person than I1 would otherwise have become. I1 learned very early, with the clarity of a child, that everyone deep down is the same. While I didn't realize it growing up, as an adult I1 have come to recognize the impeccable ethics and values that were demonstrated to me as a child.

Growing up in Texas2 in a liberal household4, I1 was made deeply aware of issues of social justice. My father had grown up in poverty3; he was insistent that we be aware of how fortunate we were, and always attendant to the needs of those who were not. All four of my grandparents were immigrants from Eastern Europe,3 and had found in this country the freedom they longed for while living in oppressive circumstances. From the time I1 was a child I1 was taught the importance of America's promise2, and the moral responsibility that each of us has to keep it alive and bequeath it to others. Where I1 saw something wrong, I1 was taught it’s my responsibility to make it right.

I1 went to public schools in Houston2, and as the Sixties Revolution2 burst onto the scene I1 was eager to be part of it. From the cultural and spiritual revolution of that time, to the anti-war protests and political activism that marked the era, I1 was every bit a child of my generation. I1 spent two years at Pomona College in Claremont, California,4 and from there went on to experience pretty much every outwardly insignificant thing and every inwardly profound thing that’s possible.

The most consistent thing about my early Twenties was a search for spiritual understanding.3 I1 had a voracious appetite for topics of comparative religion and philosophy, and in my mid-20's I1 began reading a set of books called A Course in Miracles4. The Course is not a religion, but rather a self-study program of spiritual psychotherapy based on universal spiritual themes. There is no dogma or doctrine; it is simply a book on how to forgive. I1 had no idea at the time that my study of The Course, plus writing and speaking about it, would turn into a 35-year career.

"The Presidency is not merely an administrative office. That's the least of it....It is pre-eminently a place of moral leadership."
~ FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT, 1932

How My Career Began

In the early 1980’s2, there was no professional niche involving non-denominational spirituality. Since I1 didn’t see myself becoming clergy or a religious academic or a traditional psychotherapist, I thought my speaking about A Course in Miracles to small groups was simply an avocation. I1 threw myself into teaching, counseling, and writing based on the teachings of the Course3.

When I1 began speaking to small groups about the Course at the Philosophical Research Society in Los Angeles in 19832, the strange and horrifying AIDS epidemic burst onto the scene. Los Angeles5 was hit particularly hard by the disease, and many of its victims found their way to my talks. I1 became deeply involved in the crisis, facilitating counseling and support groups; non-profit organizations in Los Angeles and New York to provide non-medical support to people living with life-challenging illnesses; and the creation of Project Angel Food, a meals-on-wheels service to homebound people with AIDS that has now served over 11 million meals to people in the Los Angeles5 area. In a very real sense, my life's work emerged from that experience.

Also in the 1980’s2, I began lecturing in New York and other cities5 as well, including talks and seminars in Europe2. In 1992, I1 published my first book, A RETURN TO LOVE: Reflections on the Principles of A Course in Miracles.4 Little did I1 know, as an unknown first-time author, the power of a call from Oprah.1 She invited me to be a guest on the Oprah Show, and on the program, she gave away a thousand copies of the book. From there it went on to become the 5th largest selling book in America that year.3

I1 have since published 12 other books, the fourth of which, published in 1997, was called Healing the Soul of America4. Four of my books have been #1 New York Times bestsellers.3 I1 have written a book called A Politics of Love: Handbook for a New American Revolution, which will be published this Spring.4 After my experience with the AIDS crisis, I1 had become deeply aware of the larger personal, economic and social problems faced by people throughout our country and the world. The political convictions of my family of origin, combined with my own in-depth experience of people’s everyday problems over a period of many years, created within me an ever-increasing realization of the depth of our problems in this country as well as of God’s unlimited capacity to solve them. Spiritual audiences haven't always been happy with my political activism, and political audiences haven't always been happy with my spiritual convictions, but the combination of the two is who I1 am.

My career has not been a traditional one, but it has been successful5. I1 have been a teacher of transformational wisdom, a successful businesswoman, and a political activist. I1 have counseled leaders ranging from business to culture to politics. I1 have been blessed to participate in many non-profit activities, including co-founding THE PEACE ALLIANCE working on the Board of RESULTS, and speaking for various charitable causes over the years.3 I1 produced and hosted four SISTER GIANT Conferences, facilitating the connection of thousands of women to progressive activism and electoral politics.4 In 2014, I1 ran for Congress in Los Angeles2 and came in 4th out of a field of 16 in a jungle primary.5 LA District 33 ended up with the venerable Ted Lieu in that position, so I1 consider it an all’s-well-that-ends-well experience in my life.

“We can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them.”
~ALBERT EINSTEIN

Who I Am

A lot happens in the life of a woman between the ages of 31, when my career began, and 66, which I1 am now.3 I1 have had a meaningful career; I1 have a wonderful daughter, India, age 28;3 and I1 am now at the point where my deepest desire is to take what I've learned and express it in a way that best serves others. Like millions of Americans5, I1 am sickened and saddened to see the state of our country and I1 believe that I1 can help.

I1 do not see American politics today2 as a conduit for a deep and meaningful transformative experience, either for our citizens or for our country. Our government is now little more than a system of legalized bribery, and our traditional political establishment at its best is a container for an obsolete conversation about democracy, and values, and people. It has become an entity unto itself, more and more disconnected from the everyday lives that are led by people throughout the country. As someone whose entire career has been spent listening to people’s pain,3 I1 see the inability of our political establishment to register that pain, and respond to it, as perilous and destructive to our democracy.

Our deepest political problems are expressed on the level of politics, but they are not rooted there. Our deepest problem is the disengagement of the American5 heart from the values we purport to hold most dear, and the failure of too many of our citizens to vitally participate in the expression of those values. A disengaged citizenry is to society what a weakened immune system is to the body, and that is the level on which as a country we most need revitalization. What America5 most needs is a renewal of the spirit of our democracy, in the absence of which the political corruption and0 human devastation that have become all too common in America will continue to erode our nation. As someone who has had a thirty-five-year career facilitating personal and systems transformation, I1 believe I1 have expertise and skill that is most needed at this time.

“Our goal is to create a beloved community and this will require a qualitative change in our souls as well as a quantitative change in our lives."
~ MARTIN LUTHER KING JR.

Why I'm Running

Just as it’s been said that war is far too serious a topic to be left in the hands of generals, the future of our country is far too serious to be left in the hands of traditional politicians. I1 have great respect for political experts, but the idea that only experienced politicians can lead us at this point in our history is preposterous. Experienced politicians led us into the wars in Vietnam and Iraq5. Experienced politicians have led us to the largest income inequality since 19292. Experienced politicians have led us to the brink of environmental disaster. Experienced politicians have led us to where we are today. There are many other kinds of experiences needed in order to prepare the leader of tomorrow.

What we most need now is a political visionary -- someone with a deep understanding of where we have been and where we need to be going. While car mechanics are important, they aren't necessarily the ones who know how to drive you to where you want to go. It is unreasonable to expect the mindset that drove us into the ditch, to be able to pull us out of it. It's not enough now to just know what's happening inside Washington; we need someone who also knows what's happening inside us.

My campaign provides the American5 people with the option of choosing another way -- not just a better version of same old, same old politics, but a genuine pattern disruption that allows for breakthroughs and possibilities that will not otherwise occur. It is for those who want the person sitting behind the desk in the Oval Office3 to be someone with an expanded sense of what is necessary, as well as what's possible, in the 21st Century.

From what is essentially a sociopathic economic system, to a government that has become little more than a handmaiden to that system, to the dark influence of money on our politics, to the systematic neglect of millions of chronically traumatized children, to our need to fundamentally address issues of racial injustice, to our need to wage peace as well as to be prepared for war, to the sacrifice of America's5 moral values within the public sphere -- we need to do more than water the leaves of our democracy. We need to water the roots. We need to address the deep emotional and psychological dynamics within the average citizen that have led to the erosion of our political system. In order to have a moral and spiritual awakening in America5, we need a leader who is a moral and spiritual awakener.

I1 believe I1 am that person.3

NOTES:
1: Since my own story isn't very exciting, my campaign manger felt we needed a winning backstory. I hope you will enjoy Marianne Williamson's US Presidential Campaign kickoff. Oprah likes her, so we all know she is totally going to win.
2: I'm pretty sure it was Canada sometime in the 1970's. There was disco and afro's so I'm just guessing here. It could have been later.
3: This data has been dramatized. The exact information has been lost to the sands of time.
4: I'm not saying that it did happen exactly this way, but I'm not not saying it didn't.
5: Canada, or maybe Mexico. There may have been some rave drugs involved that affected my memory.

Hello Everyone!!! *spots a strategically placed baby*

Oh! Did you want me to vomit up a fish for that baby? Sure, no problem. *vomits up a minnow for the baby, who starts to cry*

I love babies. I hear that baby crying. I like it.
OK, so... the Local Council again? Yes, Together we to do this again! I think it's high time to execute ...

Wait. Just a minute... *frowns at the crying baby*
Actually, I was only kidding, you can get the baby out of here.

*glares at the campaign staffer in change of baby placement*

I think she really believed me that I love having a baby crying while I’m speaking.
That’s OK. People don’t understand. *turns back to the adoring, chanting crowd*

Ok, where was I?
Yes! I am seeking your support to again serve a term on the The South Pacific Local Council. I've roamed our region since late 2017, served a term on the Local Council in 2019 and I am looking for your support to allow me to once again serve our community.

I know the job, so I'm not going to make some wild pie in the sky promises and underdeliver, so I again have a one simple reason you should vote for me:

I pledge to use my good judgement.

Here's Volly chatting with an average everyday TSP voter. Take a listen, listen-takers:

So, Good Judgment, eh? You're gonna run on that again? OK. The current administration has beaten me into submission: Remind me, what the heck is that?

In nutshell, No be Stupidz: accept people, keep our region safe and friendly, don't be unreasonable and unresponsive.

  • Reasonable Moderation: That means exercising fair moderation without killing activity. While I don't have any strong feelings on double posting, I would definitely move to prevent the suppression of the initial post, so people can edit their thoughts into the initial post. I did like the 20 minute exception to the double post rule we used to have, so if I find myself on a LC that wants Double posts to stay gone I would push for that exception. I would want to replace it with Rule V. Thou Shalt Wait Thy Turn outlining limits on multiposting. I would still definitely seek to suppress triple+ posts, hate speech, spam and the like with the all powerful TSP Yellow Post-It Note of Suppression. Frankly, I think we could do without Rules XIII, XIV, and XV: I see no real need for these last three rules... the Drewpocalypse is over and I see no need to force the LC to slow down the pace of the RMB and arbitrate the quality of a conversation: and if it gets spammy then we already have a rule for that. Besides, the LC can and should adjust to be responsive to the needs of the region - not the needs of the LC. I have a specific RMB moderation proposal here.

  • WFE updates: Of course I would ensure there is always a poll up and running on the our World Factbook Entry, and, assuming our delegate signs off, I would love for us to bring back Radio South Pacifica to share songs enjoyed by folks in the region. And speaking of the WFE, it is sorely lacking a penguin emoji! I think there must always be a wandering little penguin emoji 🐧 tucked away somewhere on our WFE, moved each time it is updated. Penguin Coup visibility matters in our media!

  • Promote an active RMB: mostly this means being around, active, and watching for folks trying to take part in discussions and engaging with them. Pretty much what being the LC has always done, nothing earth shattering there.

Sounds great! But those are pretty basic, every day things. In a perfect world, what's your LC moonshot?

I'm glad you asked. One of the things that makes TSP so special is how we have carved out an actual part of government that is directly responsible to gameside, and that is really rare and special for a game created region. I think we could actively develop the LC into something better! While these aren't what you would call promises, I do envision long term reform and revitalization of the LC itself.

  • LC internship program: I want to see the LC mentor new LCer's! Crazy I know! But imagine if we had a couple folks that really really wanted to work on contests and games, and another couple that always wanted to work on welcoming new folks, and a couple more serving as Role Play mentors, and one that really really wanted coordinate with MoRA (Ministry of Regional Affairs) events, then we would have folks coming forward upcoming LC elections talking about what they have already done for the region, and why they feel ready for more responsibility. We would need to develop a process and could look at using our roleplay subregion's for people to learn how regional officer powers work as part of this program. We also have some wildly talented and experienced former LCers we could draw on the help develop the skills of new folks.

  • Encouraging Integration: My home is the RMB, though I have been a legislator in our assembly for quite a while, and been known to poke around our discords now and then. Those who have the interest and energy need to be shown how to join the assembly, participate in our OWL WA program, take up the defender cause, practice their SWAN endotarting and help connect them with the offsite resources our region offers. There are numerous avenues to get involved and I hope that I am at least familiar enough with them to help folks find what they need. We are one region, and we can get even better when all parts of the Coalition are working together! We could even host events where our mostly-forum or mostly-discord folks can swing by the RMB now and then! And you know what would make all this easier? An active cadre of LC interns. Release the hounds!

  • Expanding the LC: So, in a perfect world we now have a wildly active, engaged, and experienced LC crew: the logical next step? A five or seven person LC! While our region's Charter guarantee's only one LCer the regional officer power, (the other two spots are accually appointed at the pleasure of the Delegate) a larger LC could share access of the nation we created in my last term in 2019, the one used to publish the LC's dispatches and instead have The tsp local council nation be the Regional Officer used by an expanded LC. Of course, this would involve having a much more structured set of rules a larger LC would operate under. This would also free up more spaces for the Council on Regional Security members to hold Regional Officer positions. This is just a vague shapeless thought at this point, and not something I can see us handling today, but someday it might work. TSP can continue to show our leadership in democratic reform.

Cool! Can you wrap this up, my telenovela is coming on and Lucas, the one who's separated from his true love, Jade, has assumed his dead identical twin brother Diego's identity to marry his brother's fiancée and inherit the family business, and I'm just dying to know what comes next!

Thanks for your time and consideration. I encourage you to check out my RMB responses below, campaign dispatches, and do feel free to telegram or tag me in the RMB if you have any questions. I will keep adding information and dispatches, to drum up HYPETM for our campaign for TSP, the best online community I love and hold dear to my heart. Now I have a question for you: Can I count on your vote?

Well you've got my vote! Now get out of here, you adorable little penguin. I gotta watch me stories, so git!

Volly waddles away, beaming with joy knowing he has secured his first vote. Time for a celebratory fish!

Nothing. I don't torture people for speaking the truth.

Ok folks, keep them questions coming! Yes, you sir!

Do you think that Cabinet members should be required to be active on the RMB?

Do you think that LCers should be required to be Legislators?

What is your view on Defenderism?

Thanks for this series of questions, North prarie.

What is your ideal RMB? The South Pacific, though it could use more moments where we all stop and break out into song to sing about what we are doing.

What is your view on RMB RP? Role Play that is Safe, Sane, and Consensual doesn't bother me at all.

What makes you fit to govern the RMB? Is the RMB really "governable"? Setting that aside, I've done it before, and thanks a oh-so-super-fun COVID layoff, I have the time to help guide and guard it again.

Do you support gameside representation in the Cabinet? I think Canadians should be represented in the Queen's Privy Council of Canada, and American's be represented in the White House. Everyone in Cabinet is from gameside, so I don't really see it as needed. Cabinet, when not busy in all their cabinetry, are most welcome to stay active in gameside. I would love to see the cool cabinetry they've made: base, wall, tall, kitchen even bathroom, preferably something with a nice flooded glaze finish.

How active are you offsite? (forums, discord) I'm around both enough to qualify as active. Last time I served on the LC I found the @BorderControl Discord tag very helpful the odd times when spammers disrupted the RMB. A quick peek at my forum user profile tells me this: Posts: 572 (0.58 per day | 0.28 percent of total posts), Reputation: 143. Registration Date: 11-17-2017, 12:36 AM, Is that active? I don't roleplay offsite, so I suppose maybe my numbers be higher, but I prefer to play the game how I play the game. I know our offsite resources well enough to connect folks to the right place when they want it.

Would you support abolishing the LC? Would you support restructuring it? No. I do not think that the oldest democracy in NationStates should abolish the only elected law making body within TSP's government structure. And Yes. I absolutely think TSP can continue show our leadership by continually improving our democracy. Check the "LC moonshots" portion of my campaign dispatch.

Do you think that Cabinet members should be required to be active on the RMB? This isn't really within the realm of the Local Council, so I will respond in my capacity as a Legislator: No, an activity requirement would be weird to codify and clunky to enforce. But Cabinet's communications and contributions are always most welcome on the RMB. FiHami's weekly post with a dispatches outlining what the SPSF are up to is a perfect example.

Do you think that LCers should be required to be Legislators? No.

What is your view on Defenderism? R/D gameplay is not the purview of the Local Council. On an unrelated note, do remind me to ask the next Cabinet nominee's for their views on the finer points of RMB emoticon usage and double posting policies. Anyway, to address your question: Fenda 4eva! We should have declared as a defender region ages ago, as it fits our regional values, so I'm quite happy.

*nods, and maintains eye contact, (because pollsters tell me people like it when I nod and maintain eye contact) nods again*

Fihami wrote:These responses kinda do prompt a few questions of my own honestly, stuff that I'd be interested in hearing from yourself, and the other LC candidates.

1. Do you believe that there is anything us as the cabinet can do to make regional government more accessible and transparent to gamesiders? Do you believe there even is the need for this? Why or why not?

Thanks for the question Fihami,

TSP already has a very accessible government. It's pretty easy for folks to become Legislators and get involved in the Assembly, or join in the discussion on discord. People can easily work on whatever project they are passionate about (assuming they know what's happening). As far as transparency, I can understand Cabinet being most responsive to Assembly legislators... that's who elects them, after all! It's just appreciated when the cabinet sends news back home here to the Gameside Mother Country. It's always nice to hear what the offsite colonialists are up to, and it may even prompt some to make the voyage out for a visit.

I need a drink after all this talking. One Joe Penguin Cumber Mint SPIT Juicebox, please!

Melicorium wrote:1. Do you support the abolishment of Rules XIII-XV? Why or why not?
2. Are Auphelia's polls too annoying, and mostly trivial, in your own perspective?
3. Is Socialism a good ideology?

Melicorium:

1. Yes. They are redundant: all of these activities, if they become a problem, are already covered under I. Thou Shalt Not Spam.
2. I appreciate her polls as entertaining. Last time I was on the LC with her, I accually managed to run a poll on this very topic page=poll/p=145215 and I stand by my response: "Her polls give us hope of overcoming the injustices of capitalist democracy and creating a brighter future for everyone."
3. Not how it has been practiced thus far. If you would like to dig further into my brain, you can find out where I am on the political spectrum in this dispatch.

Saint Cinder wrote:A single questions for all LC candidates that I stole from Dear Prairie

Say that Amerion fellow is questioning your reign as a perfect Local Councillor. What torture/tactic would you use to put him in his place?

Thanks Saint Cinder (and North prarie) for the chance to address this most serious and pressing matter!

Well, first off, that would just never happen, everyone loves an adorable penguin coup. If, in some weird parallel universe, this odd situation were to come to pass, I suppose I would lock him in the Dungeon of Mass Pings for the night and see if he was still alive and more cooperative after a day or two.

So far so good. Maybe I'll loosen up with another Joe Penguin SPIT. Yeah no rush, you're an awesome server! *does a weird dad finger guns motion* What's "OK Boomer" even mean? *shrug*

My flaw is the fact that I am quite blunt when dealing with people.

Aww Kerlodia, nothing wrong with a little bluntness.

I have a low tolerance for vapid wankers and Karens and can quickly fallback into sarcasm, which generally doesn't help.

Aumeltopia wrote:Volaworand I have a question.

Wouldn't you say that your proposed rule should be Thou Shalt Wait Thy Turn, for consistency?

My vote depends on this matter.

Hmmm great idea... if this were the Assembly I would move that we develop an multi departmental committee to debate and study the matter, who will invariably come back to the assembly with a recommendation that we then submit to a Legal Question the High Court. Of course, the result of this question will most likely result in the finding of conflict rules resulting in rule 2, 7 and 9 being struck from the books.

But hey, this is gameside... so yeah I love the idea. I'm gonna tweak my campaign dispatch right now. Thanks Aumeltopia!

Excuse me, waitress, can you get me another SPIT Juicebox? Yeah that Joe Penguin brand of SPIT is certainly the finest SPIT in all the lands! I'll take a Ruby Red Grapefruit, please.

Islands of unity wrote:LC election questions?

I guess the most important question is if you're going to bow down to Amerion? 😛

How do you see the relationship between the offsite community and the onsite community developing over the next year?

Great questions, Islands of unity.

Did Did Queen Amidala bow to Emperor Palpatine? I have no idea, but judging by the state of affairs in Naboo, she definitely should have.

I am certain that anyone elected to the LC, looking out from balconies of the palatial Local Council Palace (on picturesque Mount Conveniently Placed) will simply have to bow down when gazing way, way, way down at the ratty old beachside Delegate Cabaña, they will probably even have to squint to see it in those slums. Speaking of the Delegate Cabaña, we absolutely need to get the racoons out of there ... they've chewed holes in the thatch and the biscuit crumbs are everywhere. That should all have been disposed of in the TEP Outhouse out back with the rest of the regions industrial waste.

Anyway, back to the question... The delegate is generally who the LC turns on for advice and guidance, as opposed to the CRS who we just call on when we have a spammer or troll in need of banishment. Not sure if it's an accurate view constitutionally, but I see the delegate as gameside's highest ranking member of government. The Assembly might filter out the flotsum and narrow the field, but the delegate is ours and we love them. And the Cabinet only really needs them if we're invaded anyway. Anyway, so yes, this penguin enthusiastically waddle/bows/farts a little for our Supreme Overlord. :-)

As for the relationship between the offsite community and the onsite community developing over the next year?

We are one region and each part needs the other to exist in our Coalition, so I would hope for more crossover participation. The LC can encourage more folks to be active with SWAN, OWL WA (which is so awesome and exciting), SPSF and various cabinet projects as the initial steps. I would see LC promoting regional events organized MoFA and MoRA and continue to focus on ensure conversations in the RMB are stable and welcoming. LC doesn't have the same institutional structure that offsite has, so we still have work to do on that front: Typically when someone has energy and passion for institution building, they are steered to the Assembly or various cabinet projects. I wouldn't want to see the LC stand in the way of that pipeline of talent participating in offsite projects. Just a gut feeling but I think it a lot of what our region call Integration problems could be solved with TSP Journalist's spinkling the occasional dispatch and Cabinet Officials dropping by the RMB now and then to talk about what's new in the zoo.

I've floated some thoughts on a LC Internship Program and Encouraging Integration under the "LC moonshot's" portion of my main dispatch which touches on the topic. I invite you to check it out.

Islands of unity wrote:My runner up question for the lc candidates is what should my new flag be?

A stylized crescent island archipelago, depicted on a TSP standard blue ocean, all united in launching tactical nuclear weapons at a flag of the East Pacific. Oh, and put a gold fringe on it. Gold fringe is all the rage nowadays!

I'm still waiting on that SPIT. Yeah! You know what, toots, just Bring me one of each flavour!

Proctethia wrote:Volaworand oh my days, I love your campaign!

Whether the internship happens or not, I wouldn't really recommend to use POTR, as it may disturb the roleplayers (I plan to spend some time there more often during my break).
So, if the internship does happen, I have a humble suggestion. I founded a region, The Local Council, to act as a, Local Council version of Government Island, but I never actually put it forth. What I'm trying to say is that it can be used for your internship plans - if they ever come into play. To be honest, the LC can do whatever they want with it, if they want to use it, which they don't have to. :-P

Aww thanks Proctethia!

Yeah I think putting some of our sub regions to further use as LC training grounds could work, though I would see that a later stage development. I would think first steps would be having a specific welcome wagon for new nations, some role play mentors, and dispatch upvote squad could be the inital steps. Again, that all depends on the configuration of the LC we end up electing as a region.

EDIT: whispers: the role players there might even be the ones interested?

Thanks, Doll! Here, buy yourself something nice! *makes it rain*

Zess wrote:Volaworand. I apologize if this question has already been asked and answered but what’s your stance on the “two word minimum” rule?

Hi Zess, Thanks for the question!

It wasn't explicitly asked yet, but I did address this directly in my campaign. I am in favour for deleting rules 13, 14 and 15 entirely, (as any of the issues that might arise from thier deletion are already covered under the Thou Shalt Not Spam rule) and on a related note: when it comes to double posts... I would want replace rule five with Thou Shalt Wait Your Turn (with a 20 minute inactivity exception allowing a single second post if 20 minutes have passed.) And the initial post should always be left visible, assuming no other rule breech occurred.

Hello! I'd like to ask you some questions about your LC campaigns. Please note that these may be answered in your campaign dispatches already, but these few questions aren't meant to be specific for anybody.

1. Why are you running for LC?

2. What are your stances on double posting and roleplay?

3. Are you able to adapt to situations, or, to serve among those you'd rather not?

4. Do you have any 'big' plans for your term, if you suceed?

5. What sets you apart from the other candidates?

6. What experience do you have (if any)?

7. Cake or Pie?

Thank you for your time.

Hey Proctethia, thanks for asking! I am happy to take part in the Q&A!

1. I'm laid off and have the time again, and to restore the initial post in the enforcement of the anti-double post rules. So to summarize: I have the time and I'm not capriciously full of malice and distain for the RMB. :-)

2. Meh. I lean towards suppression of double posts (but definitely leaving the first one in place), and leaving the roleplay alone unless it get's spammy. The RMB rules really depend on a two person majority within LC though, and I would seek a consensus when it comes the RMB guidelines, as a core daily function of the Council.

3. I've worked with some of them before without issues, and I'm happy to work with anyone. I'm the type of person that keeps everyone focused on the job at hand... maybe being a manager for 20 some years has taught me that.

4. I'm promising to simply return good judgement, but if we get an active, engaged LC, and I am elected to be part of it I do outline a moonshot LC intern proposal in my central dispatch and a bit of vision for what the LC could be down the road.

5. We have a great bunch of folks running, and I think any combination of the folks running will turn out fine. Not to take anything away from the other folks in the race, but I'm the most experienced penguin in the running, My corruptness is adorable yet harmless, and I guess I'm wildly young by comparision with some of the piratey types, hehee.

6. I've been in our region since the fall of 2017. I've previously served a very productive term on the LC where we formalized the LC election act, developed the border control policy still in place today, and when we created the nation used to store LC dispatches instead of scattering them around all various local councilors. I am a legislator in our assembly (by the way, my proposal to repeal the part of the the regional Election Act on LC vacancies should be going to vote soon. If passed will free up the LC to propose revisions to the own LC Election Act here, since, as you know, the provision at issue was one that the assembly passed in 2016, lost track of and forgot to index, thought they repealed in 2017 but missed the stray article that hadn't been indexed, Court ruled that they didn't, then the Court ruled in a second question on how to resolve the conflicts that arose between laws after it was reinserted, and yes, I was disappointed the LC didn't file an amicus brief when either legal question was before the High Courts ... so wait, where was i... yeah that all resulted in the LC election Act having a couple conflicting points on LC vacancies stuck down last month... none of which would have even been an issue if the LC had just gotten it's act together and filled a vacancy when there was one, but whatever... I suppose since the power has been re-vested with the delegate, so yeah we are fine until its all sorted out - yeah not frustrated at all)... I suppose that's a long and roundabout way of saying I understand the interaction of our laws and bureaucracy as it relates to us here gameside and will always take steps to protect local control of local matters? So... yeah. Did I mention I'm a super cute adorable penguin criminal overlord? And I've got a pretty sweet TSP season 1 Nationstates cards collection.

7. Pie! I will support the pieletariat over caketalists every time. Vive la liberté de tarte!

*zzz* wabba wabba wabba ... *zzz*

Volaworand! for Local Council!

Hello and hugs to you! I'm seeking your support in my first run for The South Pacific Local Council. I've lived in our region since late 2017 and I love and crazy welcoming and murderous Regional Message Board community. While some campaigns will promise you the sun, moon and stars, I have a one main reason you should vote for me:

I pledge to use my good judgement.

Good Judgment: What the heck does that mean, you silly penguin? What would you accually do?

That means exercising fair moderation of the RMB without killing activity. I don't care about double posting, but I would suppress triple posts, hate speech and spam. I would make sure we always have entertaining regional polls, and enthusiastically encourage gameside activity.

I know our region has been gone through debates over the place of roleplay in the main RMB and feel have a good balance. Our roleplaying sub-regions (Psomewhere and Knowhere) see quite regular activity and the current policy of 7 or 8 posts seems to work fine. Of course, if the new LC jointly wishes to adjust this, I will gently encourage roleplays move to the 'wheres. I love doing nation based roleplay in our knowhere region (and the occasional one-off's here and there) and will continue that regardless of the election outcome. I think if we want people to roleplay in the 'wheres we should give people a reason to use them by regularly starting storylines that draw people in. The 'wheres are not where roleplay is supposed to go to die, but to go to thrive.

I'm a compulsive dispatch publisher, and am always available to help nations crafting dispatches and factbooks that reflect their vision for their nation. I read (and upvote) every single dispatch published in TSP and highlight the news in my (semi-daily) Volaworand Newswire. I support improving our regional journalism and hope to restart & maintain the TSP Slownews if elected.

My other TSP passion is our Southern World Assembly iNitiative (SWAN). I strive to endorse everyone in the region and I was the first nation in our region to endorse over 1000 nations in a single month. Since then I consistently maintain endorsements of at least 98-ish percent of the region (while I hunt for the few I've missed). I recently exceeded our endorsement cap, so I left the WA for all of 5 minutes (it was horrible) so I could restart collecting endorsements but maintain the endorsements I've handed out. I think the SWAN initiative is a key part of building a close-knit, integrated and secure community, and a necessary step to help us retain nations who were lucky enough to spawn in our region, and attract new nations.

While I consider the RMB my home, I'm also a legislator on our offsite forums and participate actively and independently in our region's politics. I think it's important for everyone on the LC to be familiar enough with all aspects of our regional government to be able to connect nations with the resources we have to offer. Also, as a very active poster on our RMB I will promote the current initiatives, votes and events and festivals happening in the other half of our region.

I've become completely hooked on the Nationstates trading cards and am slowly building my TSP collection. I absolutely love being able to showcase the amazing diversity of our region. If I've gone quiet on the RMB I'm likely lurking while watching an auction closely. Or maybe eating... sometimes I even go to work or sleep, but TSP is always huge part of my day. I'm here for several hours a day, every day.

I encourage you to explore my campaign dispatches, and telegram or tag me in the RMB if you have any questions. I keep adding new ones, drumming up hype for our campaign and the best online community I've been honoured be a part of. Thanks for your consideration.

The next round of LC election will start in about an hour. Good luck to all the candidates!

It's Official! With 50% of the huge turnout, I've secured the first seat of the three on our Local Council.
A victory dispatch will be posted shortly.
I'll be voting Concrete Slab in Round 2, and Auphelia in Round 3. I'd be happy to have you (and everyone in TSP) join me in supporting these two fine nations.

Feb 25, 2019:
I've managed to garner the support of 47 of the 99 votes so far. I really want to get over 50% on the first round now, so I shall make one last desperate, eleventh hour gesture to woo TSP voters with a heartfelt song.

With the initial response positive it was time to begin to differentiate my campaign. With a couple of the declared candidates having been dragged before the high court over the past year by another cantidates, corrpution allegations are bound to be touchy issue in this campaign. I should probably work to defuse the potential tension with some humor.
