The Trade Empire of Alenshire (Commonly known as just Alenshire) is a large, diverse nation on the Northern Atlantic bordered only by unincorporated rogue states. The government is remarkably small in terms of business. The current Trade Prince is Albany Gallywix who has ruled since 2015. The nation's government is rarely involved in the affairs of its citizens. And Alenshire is a world leader in the industries of retail, gambling, and technology. Alenshire has a free market economy that is classified within the top two percent of the world.

Named after the first privately owned bar in the region, “Ale in Shire.”
Founded in 1693 on the North Atlantic Coast by freed slaves from eastern europe. The slaves were led by Jastor Freeman to the land after leading a slave revolt on the ship transporting them to foreign colonies. After settling on the snowy coast, the new freedmen adapted to a life in the cold and hunting.
The former owners of these slaves, the Blackwood Order, attempted to reclaim the slaves and the land they occupied. In 1746, Duchess Blackberry sent a fleet of armed soldiers to reclaim the escapees. The boats landed in the summer months when the harbors were not frozen and the overwhelming organized force conquered the disorganized city state. The territory was claimed for the Blackwood Order for the next 35 Years and was run as a totalitarian slave colony. These years saw a massive rise in Alerian nationalism and the writing of many anti-government and anti-collectivist literature. Business continued as usual underground. A so-called criminal culture began to form out of the rebellious fervor of the people Alenshire which bleeds through to this day.
In 1781, a war against the Blackwood Order was waged by the Queendom of Over Sight. The slaves of Alenshire knew that Blackwood could not control the entirety of such a massive territory. So a group of former slaves that had gained their freedom by the will of their masters, offered to buy up and control the land for the Blackwood Colonial Government. Over the next 20 Years, the so-called Shire Hellfighters bought up a majority of the land in the Colony and ran it privately, but allowed the workers to compete in their acquired land. By 1801 the entire colony was privately owned except the Alerian Embassy in Snowburg. As a final act before declaring complete autonomy from the Blackwood Order, the Alerian independence movement, bombed the embassy and destroyed it. The nation never actually formally declared independence from the Blackwood Order, but the Alerian government has been recognized as sovereign.
At the beginning of the century the new Alerian Government only controlled a valley on the coast of the land mass. And over the next hundred years a long line of famously disinterested and laissez-faire chairman allowed for companies and the private market to run free, including the companies moving deeper into the region and claiming them for Alenshire. By 1899, the modern borders of Alenshire had been established.
The following decades saw a stagnation in the rapid development they saw before as their borders reached their fullest extent. This era saw a massive rise in violent crime, including murders, assaults, and assassinations. The Chairmen tried to continue their laissez-faire approach, but this only allowed further escalation and control by organized crime groups. In those years, 12 Chairman were assassinated, 4 resigned, 1 vanished and was declared dead. In 1941, Chairman Percival Briar assumed the office with the goal of reigning in what he saw as out of control big business and anarchy. To do this he began increasing the size of the federal government, enacting regulations on the free market, and spreading general communist ideology. With his personal guard he protected himself from assassinations and coups.
In 1947, the Imperial Powers of the New Roman Empire, Over Sight, and the Empire of Kira, betrayed Alenshire and this Alenshire joined the Great War on the side of the Sentinel Command(Colgoria, Schwarzeburge, Greater Aiga, Winter Gates, and an assortment of other smaller nations.) Before the troops were sent overseas, the leader of the military, third in the line of chairman succession, Neuman Gatz, personally killed the Vice Chairman and Chairman Briar during a closed door meeting. He then assumed the position of Chairman. The deaths were seen as collateral damage and then he went overseas to lead the war effort. He did not kill them for power, but to scare the enemy and remove any obstacles that would prevent him from bringing the full extent of violence upon the Imperial Powers.
Over the next 4 years, the Sentinel Command fought a war on the land, air, and seas. The Alerians leading air raids against the Roman Empire took a psychological warfare strategy of dropping bombs into the dormant volcano in the center of the country. Unknown to the Romans and the Alerians, it was actually a super volcano and the seismic activity from the bombing led to the entire Roman Empire being buried in ash and magma.

The Queendom of Over Sight began to collapse as a staggering number of citizens died from a strain of bubonic plague after the success of Operation Gazuntite, which involved Colgorian and Alerian planes dropping capsules containing fleas with the plague on Overseers cities. The Theocracy of Kira surrendered after witnessing the Sentinel Command bring plague and decimation from volcanic justice on their allies. It is rumored there are still tribes in the former Kiran territory that worship Alerians as Gods while the rest committed ritual self sacrifice.
After the war, through the early 70s was a period with a massive influx of immigrants. The south african majority became more even with people of Ango descent and Nords. There was also a sizable influx of former romans fleeing the former Roman Empire. The new found diversity and population boom ignited an age of prosperity which with the birth of Albany Gallywix began what became known as the Leviathan Age.
Much of modern Alenshire is shaped by Albany Gallywix. After leaving his small farm that he was raised on and proceeding to drop out of community college, he joined the war overseas. The former communist shaky ally of Alenshire collapsed into civil war 1997 between warring communist and anti communist factions. Albany fought with the Middle Passengers in the Alderfield region of Colgoria where he was a Colonel leading a fleet of river boats that patrolled the rivers on the Middle Passage’s Territory. After returning home from the Colgorian Theatre, a clever investment with his G.L. Pension and some years in college where he honed his expertise and began an economic (at the time illegal) empire. There was massive support for Albany as he grew in wealth and fame and was urged to take on the ever expanding government. After buying out all these territories he officially declared the Federation of Alenshire as the Trade Empire of Alenshire, which it has thrived under his Leviathan doctrine ever since.
Alenshire does not take a census so most statistics are based on international speculation.
About 8.3 Billion people live in Alenshire. The gender ratio of Alenshire is 60% women to 40% male. The average birth rate is approximately 3.8 children per female. The ethnic makeup of Alenshire is 34% Anglo Decent,30% Nords, 29% South African, and 7% other including Arabic, Jews, Romans, Colgorian-Germans, and Mongolians.
Alenshire is dominated by taoist-buddhist faith, there being many monasteries in Alerian cities. The next largest denomination is those of the islamic faith at 14%. 4% of Alerians, primarily those of Roman immigrant descent worship Roman Polytheistic gods. 1% are Jews and 2% identify as other.
The government of Alenshire is classified as a Federal Libertarian Congressional Monarchy. Though the actual federal government is very small and most lives of citizens are dominated by local companies. Company territories make up the electoral districts, the citizens of these territories elect people to go to Neuburg as Board Members. The Trade Prince is an unelected position made by Gallywix himself as Alenshire’s Leviathan. The technical path of an Alerian bill passes from a citizen’s complaint to Human Resources to the lower house to the Conglomerate who verifies the law and then the Trade Prince who either signs it into law or vetoes the bill. Though regularly Congress is too intoxicated to make laws so the Trade Prince himself is often making his own libertarian laws and passing.
The Trade Prince is in charge of all foreign relations. Alenshire is a member of the World Assembly and the Free Economic Restoration for Regional Youth, which it is the only member. The Weapons of Mass Destruction, should there be any, are unaccounted for. Alenshire on an international stage is aggressively progressive. Alenshire funds and fights for technological advancement all over the world.
Alenshire’s economic system is widely diversified between various geographic enclaves. Alenshire thrives off of a free market economy. Most industries are dominated by one or two companies but are heavily tied to the geographic area they inhabit. Alerian workers after long hours at their local jobs in factories and offices often take their earnings of the week and go to Neuburg for extravagant spending sprees and gambling to try and really strike it rich.
