Norhaim for House of Commons

Dear and fellow residents of Thaecia, I am happy to announce that I am running for a position in Thaecia's House of Commons! (Gonna go out of character for a second) - I want to first say that I have been enjoying my time in this region far more than I have in any other region. This region has actually gotten me heavily involved with its wonderful community and the region itself - its politics and its diplomacy. As a result, I am incredibly excited of the prospect of helping shape this region into a bigger, livelier, and fun region in which there is no shortage of things to do and people to interact with in a wholesome manner. Seriously, I have never been more active in any other region on my two-year history with NationStates. That off my chest, let's go back to the character.

The Government of Norhaim has seen the incredible value of this region and wants to wholeheartedly and earnestly help in shaping it into a much more robust, eventful, and efficient region. The Government has put forward the previous Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sigríður Ýr Björnsdóttir, as Norhaim's candidate for a position in the House of Commons under the Thaecian Progressive Union. An experienced politician and diplomat, she has been seen as the best candidate for this position. She has formulated an agenda that seeks to help 1) create a stable political system with as little loopholes and points of exploitation as possible, 2) create more opportunities for resident interaction with each other and the region, 3) establish friendly relations and interactions with a variety of foreign regions, and other motivations which are elaborated below:

Strong and Transparent Government

Norhaim holds democracy and freedom as one of the most important and fundamental human rights. A strong, efficient, and transparent government can most efficiently and completely provide the highest degree of freedom to its residents and citizens. As a result, Norhaim is committed to help review the constitution and make appropriate changes that reflect the wants and needs of Thaecia and closes as many loopholes as possible to prevent abuse.

As a result, Norhaim proposes a mandatory trimonthly review of the constitution and an analysis of its effectiveness, and the implementation of a constitution amendment procedures within the constitution which are currently lacking. Moreover, there should be a full article detailing how votes should be done and back-ups/fall-backs in case there were to be ties, and the defining of a quorum for the House of Commons and Senate. Norhaim also proposes helping clean up the language of the constitution.

Finally, we think that the government should release weekly reports of what it has done, what it has changed, and other important high-profile activities - including an upcoming events notice - to keep residents aware and up-to-date.

Region Activities

It is vital for a region, if it wants to grow and have an active base, to have a variety of fun activities for the residents to do. Thaecia has already created a roleplay system but Norhaim has some recommendations and suggestions which it can help in implementing (OOC: I participated in a previous region with a really good roleplaying system which I want to help create here):
  • Dedicated, Full-Featured Military System: War is fun, it really is, and it's good to have a dedicated system for warfare to prevent god-modding and lame wars. Stuff like: "Norhaim attacks with machine gun fire as the front line advances two metres into the beachhead." "Examplus reels back retreating until the last moment when soldiers charge, aided with artillery fire, and win back a mile of beachhead." (Like, as a D&D DM, this hurts me inside to not have rules for determining battles and stuff fairly.) Norhaim can help implement this system.

  • Dedicated RP Forum: This is a tentative prospect; people have voiced that forums can divide the server and split people into different communities, and that's a very fair response. What we could do is possibly restrict the forum or just keep the Discord roleplays that we have. In the latter case, we can just try to improve it.

  • Democratic Participation in Roleplays: The Roleplay Minister should take a census of roleplay topics people want to do, conduct a vote, and then help make a roleplay scenario with the help of all residents.

We also think residents want to do more than just roleplays, politics, and diplomacy because some may not like a given scenario or there isn't much going on in politics and diplomacy. As a result, Norhaim proposes creating issue-type scenarios that involve the entire region - a different type of roleplay. It could be some kind of foreign disaster, etc., and we cycle between nations in terms of where the event originated. E.g. there was a horrible avalanche in Norhaim which caused a humanitarian crisis.

Friendly Yet Firm Diplomacy

Diplomacy is a fun way to interact with other regions and foster a friendly, tolerant, and outward-looking view of the world. Norhaim strongly believes that we should play an active role in the world community, especially because we are all not just members of Thaecia, we are members of the entire world. Everything that we do and everything that another region does affects each other equally. It is vital that we create good relationships with other regions and participate heavily in diplomacy and joint activities. Furthermore, Norhaim strongly advises all Thaecian residents to join the World Assembly and participate in the voters in both the General Assembly and the Security Council. Our votes count and we can make a difference, as these laws directly affects every single WA member.

Other Issues

For the sake of brevity since this election poster is long enough already, other issues Norhaim believes is that it is extremely important for the health of a democracy to have low corruption, and high bipartisanship and representation. We also believe that we must treat each other with kindness, respect, tolerance, and acceptance since we all share the same region and we are good people! Norhaim is wholeheartedly committed to upholding the democratic values of this region and wishes to see it grow and become more and more fun for this is a very special and amazing community to be in.

Norhaim wants to thank for all candidates running for all positions for their participation in the democratic process of this region and their willingness to put time aside to make this region even better and wishes them very good luck.

If anyone wants to talk with me or has questions or comments, feel free to shoot a telegram to the Ministry of Thaecian Affairs.

Norhaim
