The Tropical Island Paradise of Great Tequila Island commonly called Great Tequila Island, is a New York Times Democracy located on a large island in Gulf of México bordering the region of Texas. Great Tequila Island is the seat of the current Ambassador from the International Democratic Union, and shares linguistic, cultural, and historical ties to Gardavasque (which is located in the IDU). Great Tequila Island covers 80,142 square kilometers and has has an estimated population of 8,256,100 Million Tequilans. Great Tequila Island is made up of 24 Provinces and 1 Autonomous City, Los Mescaleros.

History
Great Tequila Island was named by the expedition of Gaspar de Portolá on it's first exploratory voyage of the western coast of the Hespian Continent in 1769. For the first one hundred years, it was a plantation colony of Ecclesiastical Dominions exporting gold, silver, corn, fruit, and its signature crop tequila, to the mainland. It was considered to be a "backward banana republic" and it's economic output was modest, but steady throughout the 19th Century. Successive revolutions and civil unrest, brought a brief period of Communist rule in the early 20th Century, followed by a brutal civil war and ensuing brutal 40-year military dictatorship under Juan Patron. Following his death under mysterious circumstances in 1959, Great Tequila Island became a democracy and held free and fair elections for the first time in 1960.

Politics

The President of Great Tequila Island since 1996 is Holly Peña, the country's longest-serving head of state. Peña is a member of the Democratic Party which has held dominance for nearly 50 years. Under her tenure, Great Tequila Island has diversified its economy, improved civil rights, and modernized infrastructure. Other minority parties in Great Tequila Island include the Capitalist Party, Green Party, and (currently banned due to repeated election fraud violations) Communist Party.

Economy
The frighteningly efficient Tequilan economy, worth 168 trillion Yescas a year, is quite specialized and led by the Tourism industry, with major contributions from Information Technology, Cheese Exports, and Book Publishing. Tequilan hospitality is famous for its wild party atmosphere and availability of alcohol (drinking age 14, the lowest in Texas.) Average income is 92,238 Yescas, and evenly distributed, with the richest citizens earning only 2.1 times as much as the poorest.

Environment
Great Tequila Island has a warm subtropical climate, which is arid and dusty in the higher elevations. There are tropical rainforests along the Southeastern coast, and deserts in the extreme north. With seemingly endless white sandy beaches, most of which are open to the public and clothing-optional for adults, environmental protections have become an important economic issue for the hospitality industry.
