They came from behind

With the development of the Gateway Network, our understanding and skill with our portal technology's has sky rocketed.

Our ships are now able to portal any where in the galaxy, with little to no recharge time required. If enough power is given to the portal drive our ships are even able to make their way into another universe much like the gateway does.

Another application that has been discovered is the viability of short targeted portals, these portals can be used for troop deployment into target areas. The tactical possibility this opens up are highly desirable, allowing for whole army's to be deployed behind enemy defenses.

Testing has also shown that weapons fire can pass through and maintain it's effectiveness; This has spurred research into weapons that use portals to aim, these weapons would normally be to large and ineffective in conventional tactical warfare. If this research proves fruitful then we could develop highly effective and devastating weapons.
