The Pendulum Wars is set in the far future plagued with unending war started by one of the two incidents debated among scholars as the antecedent of the Pendulum Wars. The first is the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand by the Bosnian Serb assassin Gavrilo Princip, setting off a chain reaction of events from the twentieth century that prevail into the present day. All the modern equipment of many human militaries—e.g. tanks, airplanes, helicopters, radio technology, weaponry etc, including the military tactics developed from the war, originate from the war to end all wars.

The human race is one of the dominant, if not, the most dominant, races in the world of Max Barry’s NationStates. They are always seen on the battlefield, fighting each other or against an alien race.
