The Alkmon Tribune - Issue V - WAR ON TERRORISM

SOON after the investigation of the terrorist attack at the Miagsregh Council Building started to quiet down, it began to get more and more apparent that nations working together would be essential in getting the case solved quickly. In a surprise move between two nations who have never directly worked together except within the Alkmon Joint Forces, Imperial Felchah and the United Geronimo States have begun work on a unified offensive against the remaining Subway Head Fleet and Minorians still antagonising the shipping lanes in the North Pacific Ocean and East Alkmon Sea. This operation will be thoroughly discussed between the representatives of both nations, and will be presented to other countries in the region, and is expected to be underway soon. In a press conference, Felchan General Javokopov Daleia gave a thorough description of what the target of this joint action was: “Our enemies, who used to act as a symbol of oppression, are once again rearing their ugly heads. No matter how large, the attacks on the IF and UGS have proven that these remnant sects are more than capable of reinstating terror as the principle of our conflict. When Geronimo investigators arrived at the crash site of the Sparrowhawk in the Fävel Mountain Deadzone to see if a similar strike in Genjux was related, it became an obvious fact that we needed to cooperate. Long has Alkmon been separated, engrossed in maintaining order within the Kriegsrecht-Minorian Occupied Territory and not with each other, now we must face that without each other we will all suffer.”

AS humanitarian issues regarding the continuous evacuation and quarantine efforts in and around 42Forever continue to escalate, Cascadian Peace Corps Rangers have become increasingly involved with affairs in that region. Officially, they are not a part of the Xovlandian/Felchan 42Forever action Operation: WHITE CROSS, but Hegemon Heskel Crane has shown that he would prefer the Cascadian Bio Region to be included on paper than only in unspoken action so support can be given more easily. President Jackson expressed in an interview last Thursday that he “...still consider[s] the mission [White Cross] a mission of conflict and not of humanitarian efforts,” but with Felchan promises of one hundred percent civilian focus by the end of the year, the idea is still on the table. Recently, Cascadian evacuation missions in the northwest of 42Forever and the southern O Ka Waii territory have been met with retaliation from Minorian resistance forces, which have posed difficulty in adhering to the Cascadian doctrine of peace in all situations.

FOLLOWING its participation in Exercise Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2018, Felchah has begun a retirement-or-refit effort on its older surface warships, titled Operation: REFORMER. 1980s ships like the Voda Kaelafor-class Guided Missile Destroyer will be phased out by 2023 (to be replaced by the upcoming Nu-class Light Cruiser), while others like the mid-70s Desparaei-class Frigate will be completely retired from service by the end of this year. With insight gained from RIMPAC, especially with a conference between Felchan and American representatives at Pearl Harbour, it has come to dire attention how out-of-date some of the lesser surface ships are. In his after-action report, Combat Admiral Vasailaiy elaborated on the reason for the sudden move: “With our recent concentration on naval control with the Summer War and the fall of USAM, it was a time of great technological and numerical growth. Over ten top-of-the-line dreadnoughts made their way out of drydock in the last two years, enlistment rates grew by fifteen percent, and Felchah had massive economic gain on selling our technology to the rest of the world. That being said, one thing weighing us down is the ships of our past still in commission—inflation of numbers does not show a growth in effectiveness. Old ships like the Desparaei have gone through a lot and helped Felchah through a lot, but when compared to the Predator-class Superdreadnought or even just the [Voda] Kaelafor from six years later, refitting them would be more expensive than just making more of the effective ships. We expect REFORMER to be complete by 2026, and we openly encourage other naval powers on Alkmon to do the same.” Further details on Operation: REFORMER can be found on the Felchah-International Global Broadcast System (FGIBS) forum.
